“You only have to fear God, and me a little bit, at least while you are staff that depends from me”, said Argentine President Cristina Fernández publicly voicing her discontent towards some of her cabinet members after a court order interrupted a series of public works in the Buenos Aires province. Didn't Nixon say something like It doesn't matter if something is legal or illegal. If the Preseident decides to do something then that MAKES it legal ???
Sep 07th, 2012 - 06:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0Now the only way of saving Argentina is to put KFC's head on a pike outside government house...... And Laughing boy Timmerman's too.
Oh dear. The megalomania is beginning to appear. Should be fun to watch.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 07:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yup, the woman is completely barking mad!
Sep 07th, 2012 - 07:31 am - Link - Report abuse 0Now she is trying to control the judges. Once the judicial system is under government control you have become a dictatorship.
At least many Argentinians are beginning to realise this, and make their voices heard.
Moyano got this bit absolutely right.
To govern is not making everyone believe all that you do is good; that is an act of mythomania,” Moyano said during a radio interview. He added that “the government has a lot of hatred” and that “you are either a slave or an enemy, there is no middle ground,” as a citizen and worker.
“Cristina does not see herself as a queen anymore. Now she sees herself as a goddess,” the trade union leader furthered.
Yes, a populist government can only survive if they can produce a legitimate enemy. They have been using the Falklands and Britain to distract the public, but the people of Argentina are too busy looking around at the disaster that their economy has become, and couldn't care less about the Falklands.
So the government need new enemies to distract the people. So now it's the trade unions and the judges. But I doubt the people of Argentina care about these things more than their own financial situations, with the exception of the La Campora trolls, or course, but they are paid to regurgitate the governments lies.
China has proved that people put up with despotism as long as their economic situation continues to rise. When it doesn't it is the end.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 07:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0Seems a bit odd but if the Argentinian people are happy with her that's all that matters. In my extensive experience the overwhelming majority of so called Judges are out of touch with reality and complete idiots.

Sep 07th, 2012 - 08:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0Is that one person or two? Seriously, these sorts of comments make it understandable why Hilary Clinton asked for a report on what drugs CFK is on. I would be seriously embarrassed if my head of state was making statements like this and I don't doubt that they would be thrown out at the next election. Although, of course, CFK isn't eligible to stand at the next election is she?
@11 - Idlehands
Sep 07th, 2012 - 09:00 am - Link - Report abuse 0There probably won't be another election. CFK will declare that God has chosen her to rule, suspend all civil liberties, and declare a state of emergency.
She will then declare herself to be the Dear Leader that MUST be obeyed and worshipped.

If CFK wants some respect as a leader, she should hold televised sessions with the ministers where they can pose her questions about matters of state, like Prime Ministers question time or general sessions in Parliament.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 10:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0Don't get me wrong, I'm not particularity pleased at the ability or record of our politicians and know that some of those questions are pre-chosen or can be anticipated and prepared for in advance but our politicians get torn to shreds by the opposition in front of the viewing public if they make stupid decisions or get caught by a question they are not ready for.
This makes them look into everything and question the validity of all decisions, cause if they don't, the opposition has the forum to really make them look stupid.
Only giving pre-rehearsed speeches at people in rallies and teleconferences just gives me the impression that CFK does not have the ability to respond to honest relevant questions at the time of asking.
@20 shes a goddess, gods dont take questions from us mere mortals, she is on a more uplifted heavenly plain surrounded with grapes and flowers, and angels playing harps, dressed in a white linen, snorting the white angel dust, throwing lightning bolts down to earth in The Falklands direction, looking down over her happy, well fed, prosperous, victorious nation while pissing on them.

SELF-DETRMINATION & DEMOCRACY!!!
@30 knock it off! There is abosutly no need to resort to personel attaks agisnt someone just because they are Argentine. I know many Argentines are most could not give two craps about the FI. Only the uneducated Peronist supports and therefore those most prone to nationilist sentiment are decived by it. the Majority of the middle classes are more cosnerned with a failing economy and failing government.

No, you are deluded and you need to inform yourself better on this issue before making such a failed statement. You said that the big majority cares about the island when in fact its only a loud minority.
Now, lets get back to the topic at hand, this isn't about the islands. Go search another aticle.
@32 penny has just dropped, ;)
Sep 07th, 2012 - 12:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@31 You think? How far does your memory go back? Having read some books as well, I recall a certain country annexed a place called Austria. Then somewhere called the Sudetenland. Then Czechoslovakia. Strangely, most Germans probably couldn't have given two craps. They were certainly concerned about a failing economy. So they did nothing. Less than a year later they were in the middle of a war. Because their dear leader went a step too far.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 01:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The situation back in 1982 was much the same. A failing economy and a failing government. Presumably the argie population was equally divided between the couldn't care less and the Peronistas. That was undoubtedly what got hundreds of thousands of them out on the streets cheering the invasion and occupation of a couple of little peaceful islands. Do you think that if the German people had realised how many people all around the world would actively hate them and were prepared to kill every one of them, that they might have thought twice and decided not to precipitate and support WW2? Do you think that if the argie people had realised, back in 1982, how they would be actively hated and blamed for the Falklands War, how there are few, if any, on the Islands or in Britain who believe the standard excuse that it was the junta and will look, in the event of future problems, for the two aggressive countries referred to to be treated in the same fashion. Surely the majority of even the middle classes could see what was in their interest. A new government with the real interests of the people at heart. Intent on open and friendly relations with all other countries. And no interest in political jingoism or personal power!
lol Argentina, thanks for the laughs!
Sep 07th, 2012 - 01:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Enjoy dictatorship round 2!
@34 I agree with all you say. I was emarly trying to point that at the moment the majority of Argentines do not see this as a major concern and wish the government would concentrate on mor eimportent things. There is a small or incresingly popular school of thought here i Argentine (with some of Argentines greatest scholors as members) who either believe that either a) Self-Determiantion does apply or b) the current tactics will not work.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 02:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In fact there was a newsarticle in clarin recently in which these people were branded traitors by the government sponsered press. You really should give some of the Argentine people more credit, in patoculer the older generation here are appologitec especially over what happend in 1982. Attitudes are changing but it will take time. The world is in generaly growing closer togethor and i bleive we will see a rowing movment away from nationilst sentiment as this happends.

Sep 07th, 2012 - 03:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0An important difference between pre-war Germany and Argentina is that Germany had a formidable industrial base, world leading technology and spent the best part of a decade building up/training their armed forces to be one of the most powerful militaries in the world. None of which is true in the case of Argentina.
TTT
I would say that the Brits, the English in particular need to be more nationalistic. A bit of nationalism is healthy. Here we are excessively nationalistic, especially in September, but the English are not so. I lived there for many years and it was always curious to me. They don't even have a national day to celebrate. Compare that to our independence day...from the 15th Sep to the 24th Sep nothing will be done here as we celebrate, bbq, eat, drink and dance our way through our nation's birthday.
The US, yes, I agree they are very nationalistic.
@39 I think patriotism is a good thing but nationalism, not so much. Most people in England are proud to be British (though some don't know how good they have it) but it is understated. It comes out at times, like celebrating the Olympics or special Royal occasions, and we do it well.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 03:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Us are patriotic.
@39
Sep 07th, 2012 - 03:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I wouldn't call the British attitude patriotic. They are jingoists, in their own way. To believe they are always on the right side of an issue (this is not a comment on the Falklands), is proof enough.
Have you noticed they are always in international squabbles because they just refuse to accept that other countries don't have the same philosph or values as them? They don't respect other nation's in that sense, and that just as bad as overt in your face flag-thumping.
Elaine,
Sep 07th, 2012 - 03:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ok, patriotic then. Don't you think the English should be more patriotic? I mean you don't get the royal occasions every year and a large minority don't identify with the monachy anyway.
I always had the feeling most English were not at all patriotic, in the sense that they never celebrate Englishness or success. Here we have won two wars and have two nobel winners and every school child is taught how great that is. The UK has won more Nobel prizes per head than any other country but most school children don't know that. Come on that sort of success should be celebrated. And what about Waterloo....the future direction of the world hinged on Waterloo. You should celebrate that every year with pomp and fireworks. Who cares if the French don't like it...ram it down their throats. You should have Waterloo Day and re-enact killing Franchutes, burning Napoleon on a fire. People would love it!!!!
Wake up English! The English are waking up!

I don't think TiT understands the difference between nationalism and patriotism. No one in the USA feels that the USA is better than every country in the world. We know that we are better in many aspects of society than a great many of other countries and have attributes that fall short that many countries possess.
Sep 07th, 2012 - 04:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So are Americans nationalistic, of course as all countries have demographics in an entire population it would be crazy not to that every nation does. But as a how, I do not think that we are as much as we are patriotic.

@42 Personally, I think we should be more patriotic (never nationalistic - that is aggressive).
Sep 07th, 2012 - 04:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It also has a lot to do with the past. The British Empire was over a long time ago and the country has evolved. There was a period of reflection on some of the unpalatable deeds of the past. This combined with the country becoming multi-cultural, it because offensive in society to be seen to be being too jingoistic. We worked hard at stamping out prejudice and making the new immigrants blend into society.
Sure we won wars - at great cost - but the world changed a lot after 1945. It was about never having another world war and the winners take the lead in trying to establish new and healthy relationships with old enemies. (We would not have built such a strong and mutually beneficial business relationship with Germany if we were still teaching our children to sing Hilter has only got one ball.....). Part of the process was to remove the strong patriotism nurtured during the war years.
The plan was not perfect. By trying so hard to be multi-cultural we forgot to give importance to English culture. The US got that right. Immigrants become Americans first and then retain their original culture. It makes them feel patriotic to the US. We encouraged immigrants to value their original culture above everything which just created ghettos (in the original sense of the word) that did not blend in with the whole society.
Do I think we should be more patriotic? Yes and current thinking is definitely moving that way. Some historians like Niall Ferguson (a bit extreme) want to teach the positives of colonialism and the achievements of the past. I think the best teaching is giving a balanced view, good and bad, and letting student reach their own conclusions.
But I am proud to be English and British. And many British are but we don't tend to display it. Wherever I travel I hear great praise for Britain. The history, freedom and good life we tend to take for granted.

Elaine,
Sep 07th, 2012 - 06:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, I agree with your account of why the English have become so timid when it comes to patriotism. You are right to say it was a misguided in reference to mutil-culturalism. The Brits are far too worried about the sensitivities of the non indigenous population who choose to live in the country. Here, when the president addresses the country (s)he starts with “Chilenas y Chilenos”. If you are one of the 100s of thousands of Peruvian, Columbians, Argies, etc living in the country and that makes you feel excluded, well bad luck.

The multi-culturalism sensitivity about because of the racism that grew in equal measures. It is hard to believe that boarding-houses would have signs up in the 50' and 60's saying 'No Irish, No Gypsies, No Blacks', so laws had to make such prejudice illegal and socially unacceptable. Racism is now restricted to the ignorant and we are a tolerant society in general (Something we take for granted until travelling to countries that still hold such prejudices) The truth is Britain has always accepted large numbers of immigrants, we could not have developed without them but we should have done more to integrate earlier. As you say, they come to the UK because they want to live in this society, so they should feel a part of it and add to it.

If you travelled to countries outside LatAm you would see for yourself how foolish some of your remarks are.

Sep 07th, 2012 - 09:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0How exactly am I supporting this corrupt and despotic regime?
I'll tell you how (your twisted and daft definition, and that of all the other haters here of your persuasion): if I don't engage in self-hatred of who I am, where I was born, my culture... if I don't idolize the UK, worship the EU, and genuflect at the USA; if I don't ennoble anything that is non-argie as immediately superior ... and if I don't do all of the above 24/7, and if I don't think I am inferior genetically, and if I don't initiate every commentary here with Your holy and sanctified exalted Aryan demiurges...
... then I am a CFK supporter.
Given that definition, I am a proud CFK supporter, and will be for as long as I breath.

i do want to ask you a serious question..
QUESTION;
Lets deem that You bought a property in a foreign country as an UK citizen (!!!!!!!)
but,one day...
that country nationalize your property and deport you.!
then , what is your Law Process ??
Ask a silly question and get a sensible answer,
And the answer is
[ive no idea]
But what has this to do with CFK being a goddess,
.
Harry the legend fights for his country in his twentys (TWICE), single, gets caught out enjoying himself in LA, WHOOOOOPEEEE now back in afghanistan flying Apache helicopters his mum would be so proud of him, as are we, whats your mum proud of you for sussie turning the most tricks in a night, whats CFK proud of her son for eating the most burgers ? shut up have a hit and behave yourself. Great speech by the beautiful Reina Cristina, she's right to remind her cabinet how lucky they are to serve under her, and I'm sure if any no longer want to be loyal to her project in the face of the attack of the bankers and austerity mongers there will be other, better alternative ministers who are. On the issue she was actually addressing, that of public works which have been obstructed by judges (why?! these must be reactionary judges! and why has no-one else even mentioned this point?!) she is on the left and in the right. Moyano is sounding increasingly insane, I think he will burn out soon if Cristina just keeps keeping on, as she will, god willing =)

Yes of course we both know the possible answers and they are:
1-You are a complete fool because none with a gram of grey matter in his brain goes to a country thinking that is a shit hole and less not having enough money to afford a decent living.
2- You are fool, dominated by your argie wife that drives you like an idiot to go to a country that you see as shit hole and that does not have enough money to afford a decent living in a foreign country.
3- You are a damn fool, dominated by your wife, broke and as you cannot afford to go to Paris so you get consolation by choosing second best option by thinking... Well after all Buenos Aires is the “Paris of South America”. Ha ha
So here are your real options:
Be a man and bring your wife to a cheap American holidays in Miami on these cheap hotels all included, avoid the beaches because someone told me that the British forgot to turn the tap and few oil is still floating there.
May be you are lucky and get a cheap copy of a Cordon Rouge champagne bottle together with your Hamburger and french fries cheap menu for being the fool of the year.
Or make a second mortgage over your house to go to Monaco.
Ah! you cannot afford to go even to Tijuana with a second mortgage?
Bloody ‘ell mate to be a yank is just bad but yank and poor is even worse.

Sep 13th, 2012 - 11:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0You can support in election times whoever candidate you like, but I think you have a big confusion in the understanding what is Support and Plotting, Conspiring, etc. against a head of the State.
Example there is a presidential election in US, I like Rommey so I can say...That Rommey is better than Obama, convince people to vote for him, explain to people what’s my candidate electoral platform is, I can say why Obama is not the best person for the job, etc, etc.
But if there isn’t any election or candidates campaigning and I am using fake information to erode Obama power partnering with others, etc...
What I’m doing, it is not supporting my candidate otherwise plotting, conspiring against the head of the State of US and the people of US. Because Obama represents them like or not, voted or not, etc.
Like in US in Argentina, Europe and even in Venezuela is a serious crime and can have a sentence of 10 year of jail.
Do you want to end like this?
Chavez: Jailed U.S. citizen was plotting against me
http://times247.com/articles/chavez-captures-american-citizen-in-venezuela
Didn’t tell you that in the US embassy?
US govt
While you are traveling in Argentina, you are subject to its laws. In some places you may be taken in for questioning. In some places driving under the influence could land you immediately in jail. There are also some things that might be legal in Argentina, but still illegal in the United States, and you can be prosecuted under U.S. law if you buy pirated goods. If you break local laws in Argentina, your U.S. passport won’t help you avoid arrest or prosecution. It’s very important to know what’s legal and what’s not wherever you go.
In addition to being subject to all Argentine laws affecting U.S. citizens, dual nationals may also be subject to other laws that impose special obligations on Argentine citizens. dual nationality may hamper U.S. Government efforts to provide protection abroad.
I hope your lawyer would be good

An American man is in police custody after allegedly making insulting remarks about President George W. Bush. Michael Moore was arrested at the weekend at a police roadblock, the state-sponsored FoxNews reports. Mr. Moore, a director of documentary films, is expected be indefinitely detained as an enemy combatant on Wednesday and never receive the speedy public trial the U.S. Constitution promised him. He is to be charged under the USA PATRIOT Act, which makes it punishable by indefinate detainment and torture to undermine the authority of or insult the president. Oh nice Poppy, are you coming for me?
Sep 15th, 2012 - 08:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0When?
I’m waiting... do ya want my address also?
Anyway you should stick with the Argentine law as you are a foreigner (according with your own words) and insulting and conspiring against a head of state (in this case Argentina) is a serious crime. Especially for foreigners, former/active militaries and public servants.
I’m just warning you about Argentine penal code as may be you are not aware of. Once you interconnect by any mean with Argentina by transmitting digital information or putting a foot on Argentina soil you become subject to obey and respect Argentine law.
If in US insulting and conspiring against US president as you say it is not a crime fine (we both know that this is not true) but in any other country may be is a crime.
So you have to be careful about your actions because as the US embassy says “US citizen should obey local laws when they are in a foreigner country... and that to be a US passport holder will not provide any protection to avoid local foreigner law”.
As a good and respectable citizen of Argentina and Europe I feel in the obligation to advise you.
Then you can do whatever you want.
And by the way in Argentina according with the new anti terrorist and money laundry law any citizen or population that may be feel terrify by a foreigner or local resident can be charge for terrorist act.
Here a link to your friend

Do you now that I’m start to feel very scared and threaten by you at this moment?
Should I call the cops?
Ahhhhhhh a yank is intimidating me oh! please, please terror, terrooooooor.
