Argentine Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Alicia Castro, delivered on Tuesday her credentials to Queen Elizabeth II in a meeting deemed as “warm,” that will help improve bilateral relations between both countries. Read full article
Protocol prevents mentioning that the air hostess bored the Queen on the subject of the Falkland Islands for as long as she could .
The Queen does not need to be reminded about Britain's contribution to Argentina :
1811/17 : Argentine Navy created by British mercenaries
1820 : First country to recognize the Provincias Unidas de Buenos Aires
then :
Established beef /cereal/ sheep farming
Railways
Ports
Telegraph /Telephones/Gas/Electricity
Meat packing industry
The first underground outside the UK
The Bolsa ( Stockmarket )
Introduced football /rugby/cricket/polo/hockey/tennis
Timekeeping ( Hora inglesa )
Honesty ( Palabra de Ingles )
Till 1930 Argentina was virtually a British colony and the 7th richest country in the World.
1946 : Peron comes to power with an avowed anti British and anti American agenda .
1948 : He pays the British the equivalent today of U$S3Bn for the railways . Had he waited 2 years , they would have been handed over for nothing .
2012 : After 70 years of Peronism your flagship is held hostage by a 3rd rate African country because the country is too poor to pay the hedge fund that owns it .
Happy 17 de Octubre.
Vivan los Ingleses .
Is that why they want to put the Argie flights back towards the Falklands, so Castro has a job to go to when they realise she can't conduct diplomacy for toffee?
Alicia was begging HM not to send any more members of her family to the Falklands as their power gives Argentinians nightmares, especially unarmed helicopter pilots.
They would be in real trouble if a member of the Royal family turned up to fly a Eurofighter.
@9
Quite possibly but as she keeps calling them the Malvinas the pilot would get lost and land somewhere else.
@8 You mean the ONLY good news .
Libertad still stuck in Ghana
Most of Buenos Aires /La Pampa/Santa Fe flooded : No retenciones to live off next year , bio diesel or grain .
Inflation 30% and rising
Argentina's credit rating still the low
Still have to play Brazil , or will you switch the lights off again ?
Futbol para todos ? Futbol para nadie !
Please explain why she should have delivered her letter to the Prime Minister rather than the Head of State. You're wrong, but I'd still like to hear your explanation.
The Welsh Patagonian's are not British Expats! This is an excuse used by the Argentines for saying the Falkland Islanders could happily live under Argentine rule!
An Expatriate is someone who lives in a country they are not a citizen of! The Welsh Patagonian's are Argentine! They left Britain in 1865 and moved as far as possible away from the United Kingdom rejecting their British citizenship and eventually becoming Argentinian citizens!
It is not fair to count them in the Argentine British expatriate community when by their own decision they decided to move to Patagonia and become citizens of Argentina!
Ironically the Welsh Patagonian's want more links with Wales now...maybe they regret their decision now the Argentine economy is a basket case!
@1 Unsurprising! Perhaps you should eat something other than bananas. And walk instead of swinging from trees. Another 50 or 60 years and you might start to evolve.
@8 What's your problem? The history of your cesspit started with two pirates. Jewett and Vernet. Aren't you proud?
@10 & 15 You are called LightThink because your non-existent brain weighs nothing?
Every single one of your contributions is a provable lie, jajaja. You must be really desperate for some extoling gestures from Argentines. ]
Half of those contributions are very simply such a stretch that it's painful to read, how a lowly brit is trying to aggrandize his importance in argie history. Seriously... English timekeeping? Anyone ever heard of that? An then, ports, honesty? British contributions? Tell me who is the Brutish officially credited with inventing honesty and ports? Hahahahahaha.
And the other half of that list were indeed contributions, contributions of the Argentines to the British, since things such as railroads and the others were a simple matter of privates seeking profit, nothing bilateral about it.
We have an anti-American, anti-British agenda because we Latins can't stand you, the lying, murderours, hypocritical, and pervish people that you are, in Central America you are dispised as well. Why can't you just accept that and move along? Do I need to gouge your eye ball with my desert spoon to make you an example?
You latins are anti American and anti British because we work and you slack.
Your last statement makes no sense because you cannot do that. Go back up your sa jungle tree and eat a banana. What tribe are you from elio?
Sure you work you Casper Pelt, we work to produce the coke and heroin that you gringoos sniff by the ton, then you work it out in your offices, killing some of the coworkers in the process, and then go to the bar get drunk go home eat Cheetohs, beat the wify, then do it all over again the next morning.
Enjoy your life Casper, we latins are laughing to the bank and you'd probably die from OD like all gringoos, and I'll still be making my cash and travelling the world, thank you AmeriKKa!
It is so sad to see the kids hooked on paco in Argentina, emaciated filthy kids juggling, begging, selling trinkets or themselves all over BA, in shopping areas, street corners, stop lights.
It is very very sad
and it will only get worse as the economy continues into its depression
@26
you still writhe with frustration that no one in Latin America likes your kind.
No we don't. We laugh at Argentina because although you are a great county with great resources and potential, you spend more timem trying to steal other people's land tahn trying to run your own country competently therefore a tiny government (FIG) with 3000 people can run its country better than Argentina, though to be fair Chile and Brazil do OK.
Britgringoo, last time I checked my name is Elio. What Toby?
It's not sniffy time yet. Oh and let me be the first one to let you know we've decided to jack up the price by 40%. I know you'll pay anyway... thanks for that, I needed another vacation. I love Santa Ana, El Salvador but Cozumel does beckon.

I think that Pepe realizes that if he can flog the Uruguayan Embassy before the bottom finally falls out of the market, he can rent another place much cheaper than the upkeep on the building they've got!!!!!!!!

Just for the record, Argentina is now in third place. Uruguay's most important trading partners are Brazil and Venezuela, by quite a large margin. The less we depend on trade and tourism from Argentina, the better off we'll be. Even Venezuela is preferable as a trading partner, notwithstanding the distance and comedy-politics.
I am sure that if the Queen would visit Argentina and live there for a while that she would realize that she has been fed a bill of goods when she notices how peaceful and joyus Argentines really are. Heck, I'd bet she would just stay and and forget about her palace.
@53
Like the Argentine ship that a month ago threatened an unarmed civilan fishing boat in Falkland waters but ran away when the lightly armed Falkland Islands patrol vessel challenged it.
Whatever you Motel-Sheet skins say, you still writhe with frustration that no one in Latin America likes your kind.
That's just a lie I've been to Chile half a dozen times and got on famously with the people, also I've only met one that thought the islands should belong to Argentina.
@43
I hope she told the queen to get the british illegal aliens out of Islas Malvinas Argentina and allow them back into UK as any good diplomat would.
And as a 'great' respector of human rights and indigenous populations, about 90% of Argentina will be repatriated to Europe leaving the Amerindians their rightful country-if Europe will have you back....
Looks like a nice meeting, good to see the Quenn isn't part of the anti-Argie crowd unlike some of her more misled admirers, and a very nice chic hat on Alicia I must say =) Maybe if Cristina doesn't stand again she might be doing more of these meetings after 2015 back in Buenos Aires, in the Head of State role herself =)
