Why would we feel more compelled to hand over the Falklands now that the mighty Libertad is missing from their order of battle?

    I thought he already complained?

Is the method to complain to the UN about something, wait for a bit, then complain about exactly the same thing but change a word or two on the script in a feeble attempt to try and make people think they have something else to complain about.

How is a pre-announced test of a defensive missile a provocation to countries hundreds of miles out of their range?

The Security Council will patiently listen, then say its nothing to do with them, and inform Timmidman to take it to the International Court of Justice.

I wonder if Argentina believe that the Russians and Chinese will somehow back them with actual action instead of just empty words (as they normally do)? If they do they'd be in for a great surprise.

However isn't it nice to see Argentina using their seat as South America's representative, to forward issues that concern all of South America, instead of using it to further their own lame political agenda...

...Oh wait a minute...How typical of the Argentines to only think of themselves and desperately try to use the SC to score cheap political points at home.

And since he's such an inept diplomat, he will no doubt humiliate Argentina once more, while the rest of the world looks on and chuckles.

The UK representative to the Security Council made a paper plane that looked a bit like a Vulcan and Timmerman accused him of militarising the room.

Hope that Argentina don't test any missiles with a colossal range of 4 miles.

    What this prat means is;
'“the UK is being irresponsible in not permitting the Argentine Republic to invade and attack the Falklands with strike aircraft by deploying missiles only there to destroy an agressor” and:

“How dare the UK defend the right of self-determination as outlined in the UN charter, the cornerstone of all UN doctrine.”

Funny how he mentions that the UK threaten South America with Ground to Air defence weapons-so presumably according to him, Chile Brazil, Uruguay, Venezuela etc etc etc fancy a pop at the Falklands with strike aircraft as well?

I'll say it again........no strategy! If these guys werent such pumped up egotistical idiots they would have realized that a chat with the Falklanders would be the most beneficial to all parties.

    Something like:

“Hey guys, sorry we have been such arses about your islands! Can we talk about a long term strategy whereby we can help you and you help us? Let's plan a long term approach to our differences in the hope that your trust in us will increase, and then we can build bigger bridges towards a peaceful beneficial relationship that will illustrate to the world how grown up we have become, and illustrate to the world that old enemies can work things out and profit from one another”

Ah jajajajajajaja fuck it....let's just keep crying to the UN and get nowhere or anything!

    Let me get this straight.

The country that openly violated and refused to comply with *binding* UN Security Council resolutions when they invaded and occupied the Falklands, held guns to the local people's heads, planted landmines everywhere (including in/around local cemeteries), held an entire town in tight quarters for a month in violation of international and human rights law, likely would have expanded their dirty war in full force onto the population there if they had a chance (helicopter rides and all), and proudly celebrates all of the above with a commemorative coin, is now abusing their rotating privileges to vainly complain that the people entrusted to protect the Islanders right to self-determinaton (a fundamental right that the aggressor country denies with levels of postmoderist silliness that would make comparative literature professors green with envy) are conducting exercises to make sure that his country doesn't ever dare try to do that again?!??!

Well.. uh... yes. And who would be surprised. Kirchner said as much when she went over time a few weeks ago. And they expect to be taken seriously.

“the Security Council chair and the privileges it entails, demands a special responsibility as a guarantor of international peace and security, which the UK avoids by refusing to dialogue with Argentina and with the perpetuation of actions as those described afore”

Basically he's saying that Britain not giving in to Argentina's ridiculous demands is a “threat to peace”...logically that means that Argentina's endgame for achieving their demands is military action.

So, you've sent one of your politicians to the UN security council TO MAKE THINLY VEILED THREATS OF WAR if your demands aren't met. Seriously is everyone in your country this stupid?

CFK will ask for the resignation of the security council on the grounds of not complying to the wishes of the directive.

She will demand the totally removal on health grounds, to be replaced by a truly modern democratic council that truly represents the Americana’s,

    She will nominate.
    1, Venezuela
    2, Cuba
    3, Argentina
    4, Iran
    5, Syria
    6, North Korea
    And special members of privilege

The UK is not a threat to world peace because of the Falklands. They done enough in the last 10 years to be a threat to world peace all their own. The world is far worse off since they illegaly attacked Iraq.

In a way I would like that Argentina get smacked in the face at the Security Council. Hopefully, that would cause CFK to get piqued and then decide to have Argentina leave the UN. It is shameful we belong to that organization.

This is a list of resolution that the UN Security Counsel has worked......From Syria, to Iranian nuclear arms the children force into fighting wars. To emcumber the UNSC with such menial drivel only interfers with the actual “real” work they are trying to accomplish. My guess is that because is is widely surmised that RG's will have a non-voting seat on the rotationlal circuit, they think they are someone important now. But once again all they do is hinder important tasks from being performed with their self serving, narcissistic demands......not humble requeest but demands. When will argentina grow up and fit into the norm or the real working world? Iran is very close to being ostracized by the world as another North Korea. Argentina seems to want to sporint right past Iran and jump into North Korea's arms. Argentina there is still hope for you......have your army eradicate your point person.

If you can't see that political and economic isolation is basically slitting the throats of half your population, that's not our fault.

If you cut yourselves off from the political bodies you also break a lot of trade agreements with various parties. Best case scenario there is that it hastens Arg's rapid descent towards ANOTHER bankruptcy, worst case is Arg ends up without access to some pretty vital imports. Good luck maintaining a population of 40 million when you can't import modern farm equipment/fertiliser/pesticide.

Famine and millions of your people starving to death follows. Not our problem, unfortunately for you...

You could build a 50-foot high wall round your territory complete with 2-mile wide minefields on the inside. Because you're good at mines. Or we could blow you off the face of the planet and turn what used to be argieland into a boating lake. You choose.

#83 I agree that is how anbd what they think. Also coming from different nations as well.
Elaine, yes then can make a reason point now and then, however it's like smoke in that it can never seem to remain intact. I will only say these of the peronist argentines, because not all argentines are peronist. They seem to hold onto that old adage that“ the squeeky wheel gets the oil”. I don't think they were ever taught or learned that it does not carry over to international diplomacy and politics. Since I'm on to old adages, they really need to learn that “you get more bees withy honey”. There is a time and place to be tough and agressive, but argentina has yet to have justification for it. They should have just accepted the fact that not everyone was going to accept a renegotiated debt and pay what they can as they can, rather then saying, “oh well, nothing for you then”. It is like every morning they wake, they tie their showlaces together and can never seem to figure out why they can't walk without tripping.

@88 - Indeed. TTt is interesting because he has no interest in the Falklands, and yet due to his countries policies, he has to waste hundreds of hours of his youth arguing with faceless posters, who wouldn'tbe here otherwise. You would have thought such energy and time would be better spent on initiatives that have hopes of actually achieving something in the real world.

SC MEMBERS ELECTIONS --> acceptance rate of the international community for new members of the Security Council of United Nations:

1st place - Argentina 182 votes of 193 countries in the UN = 94.3% favorability

2nd place - Rwanda 154 votes of 193 countries in the UN = 79.8% favorability

3rd place - Australia 140 votes of 193 countries in the UN = 72.5% favorability

    etc..

What exactly the Security Council will do and focus their job for the next years ? Here are some interesting points:

1- “ The Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression...”

(key thought= militarization of the South Atlantic by UK and a threat to UNASUR members)

2- “ SC calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement..”

(Key thought= UK MUST MANDATORY obey UN Resolution about Malvinas and negotiate with Argentina)

3- “ SC in some cases, it can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.”

(Key thought= UK could receive sanctions if continue this crazy and evil behaviour and refuse to obey the resolutions)

4- ”The Council also recommends to the General Assembly the appointment of the Secretary-...., together with the General Assembly, it elects the judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).”

(Key thought= UK not respecting international comunity that only worry for search peace and global security, then ICJ could against UK for not living up to their responsibilities and really bad example to other nations in the world.

Conclusion = UK have all for lose (even his status and veto) and nothing to win if continue this madness attitude.

    really hard times ahead.

Tobi, unfortunately, is a product of the Argie education system. Kids are brainwashed from an early age with the twisted Peronist version of history and if they go on to college there are entire courses dedicated to how the evil Developed World has conspired to stifle Argentina's true glory. The entire education establishment seems to be designed as a factory to create bitter, angry young nationalists with a chip on their shoulder and an automatic “blame everyone else for our problems” mentality.

You say: “.....the UN will not fight your corner.”

I´ll give some facts, try to understand the real situation.

1- UN General Assambly already side with Argentina about Malvinas Issue and MADE > 10 strong Resolution until 1988 supporting Argentinean position to negotiate in peace the sovereignty of the islands. (NO ONE WORD ABOUT SELF DETERMINATION FOR THIS CASE FOR THE ALIEN ILEGAL PEOPLE LIVING IN USURPED TERRITORIES)

so, well job done by Argentina

2- UN c-24 Main Body Descolonization Comittee strong side and support Argentinean position and MADE > 20 resolutions supporting talks of negotiation without delay about sovereignty of the islands. (NO ONE WORD ABOUT SELF DETERMINATION FOR THIS CASE FOR THE ALIEN ILEGAL PEOPLE LIVING IN USURPED TERRITORIES)

so, well job done by Argentina again.

    3. UN Security Council Main Body.....Argentina right now is working on it...please read this very article and try to undersntad the situation.

Self determination is the bedrock of the UN Charter, NO UN resolution ever mentions it, it automatcally forms part of every resolution.

    ”4- UN ICJ ----Next step.”

If you believe this, you'll beliebe anything, the last thing CFK's government wants is to win the Falklands claim, it needs it to keep on blowing smoke in our eyes so that we don't realize that we are sliding into hyperinflation and bankrupcy!!!!!!!!

For those who confuse the UNSC with the General Assemably and it's SUb-Committee's with the UNSC:
The UNSC is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security. It includes include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions for warring nations, and the authorization of military action.
I think for those that think the Argentines will be bringing the Falklands up in the UNSC will get slapped with a hard does of the real world, like when the Libertad left Argentina.

The very mission of C-24 :

“The Special Committee annually reviews the list of Territories to which the Declaration is applicable and makes recommendations as to its implementation...”

CONCLUSION= ALIEN ILEGAL INAHBITANTS OF USURPED TERRITORIES DONT HAVE SELF-DETERMINATION RIGHT.....i dont say that...UN SAY IT.

    @ so far and co.

Complaint number whatever launched - lets see the status quo change hey......................or perhaps not.

You're buffoon of a foreign minister is simply restating the same tired old half truths, fudging and hysteria.

Has he tried to claim that we are basing nuclear weapons there again? or is he gtrying to ratchet up tensions by squealing about tests of the air defence systems?

I mean you must be terrified of Rapier, with it's 6.8KM range. Let's face it the only way it will ever down one of your planes is if they are already over the Falklands...................

You'd love the place to be undefended - so you could attack without meeting resistance then either force the falklanders out of their homes at gunpoint or force them to live under occupation.

That's what your claim means, a claim that is based on some rather fuzzy logic.

Go to the ICJ if you want - let's see you justify annexing somebody else's homeland over a 180+ year old disputed claim, where the other side has a stronger argument to possession...............

    ”1. Requests the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to initiate negotiations with a view to finding the means to resolve peacefully and definitively the problems pending between both countries, including all aspects on the future of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations;

    2. Requests the Secretary-General to continue his renewed mission of good offices in order to assist the parties in complying with the request made in paragraph 1 above, and to take the necessary measures to that end:

    3. Requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly at its forty-fourth session a report on the progress made in the implementation of the present resolution;

    4. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its forty-fourth session the item entitled ”Question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas)“.”

In the above, which is pasted from your link, the UN REQUESTS, it does not demand, or order, it requests the two countries to resolve their differences by negotiation. That is all, it is a NON BINDING resolution which either or both countries may comply with or not.
A BINDING resolution of the UN, which we did NOT comply with was Security Council Resolution 502, and with which we are STILL NOT IN COMPLIANCE, so we are delinquent and the UK is not!!!!!!!

I am confused as to how your nation can hold claim to these islands. For starters the Falklands were marked, claimed, and inhabited by Great Britain way before your criminals usurped the islands, and politely asked to leave in 1833. So the Islands were British before you even set foot on them.

The Islands never were yours, and never will be so stop being a thieving pikey gypsy, and give up with your pipe dreams. You can but hope, and your threats that the UN will fight your corner is water off a ducks back, much like your insults, but the Islands have been in British hands for near 200 years now and I don’t see the UN invading them for the sake of Argentina’s greed.
I hope the UK up their military presence so that when you invade they can promptly send you back home from where you came.

SC resolutions are binding on all members. Note: Argieland has failed to comply with a binding resolution. By failing to comply and continuing its illegitimate actions, argieland is a war criminal. There are 42 million war criminals in argieland.

@128 You need to understand reality. The “ethnic” population of the UK amounts to around 8%. That's a little under 5 million. Much the same goes for the Scots. The Scots can f*** off anytime. They won't be missed. Their ideas of what they are going to get out of a break-up are a million miles from reality. as far as the “ethnics” are concerned, they get a choice. They can be British. They can leave. They can be dead. Simple.
@139 Listen up, fart for brain. There isn't a single UN GA resolution that is binding. UN C-24 is no longer recognised by the UK. The wankers of argieland are prohibited from discussions, votes where there is a “national” interest.
@144 Lying wanker. Any UN resolution must comply with the UN Charter. self-determination is guaranteed by the UN Charter. Argieland - get f**ked!

    @155 - Tonto

Yes so_far is talking bollocks. The UNSC would have to approve any military intervention and it would be immediately voted down by the US, France, the UK, Russia and China. Not only that but the UN has no grounds to fight anyone's wars, which is why they always have to rely on organisations like NATO, which are not going to attack one of their own members, or other member states which are not going to attack the UK.

Basically so_far realises that Argentina's armed forces are useless, so he's pathetically wants other countries to fight Argentina's wars for them.

So_far is a deluded fool. The UN recognises the de facto British sovereignty over the islands and always has.

The UK have stated that they can't talk to Argentina unless the Islanders want them to, and the Argentines have ignored an invitation from the FIG to do just that.

So even if Argentina broached the subject to the UNSC they would be laughed at, as the UK is the reasonable one here.

The most they will do is suggest that all parties sit down and talk, or take it to the ICJ.

    @162 -

No the islands belong to the Falkland islanders and have for longer than the Republic of Argentina had existed.

    To clarify matters:

Falkland Islands community - started out as Vernet's colony setting up shop around 1826/7/8.
The Republic if Argentina - came into existence on 1853.

This is just one of the facts which is why Argentina won't take this dispute to the International Court of Justice. That reason is that you do not have, nor have you ever had, a valid sovereignty claim to the Falklands Islands.

Not by 19th century law, not by 20th century law, not by 21st century law. Or even 18th century law which is when Britain claimed sovereignty.

The sooner you grow up and accept this simple fact the sooner you can all move on with your lives and make Argentina a better country to live in.

For all your crying to the UN you know deep down inside that Argentina will never get the Falklands.

You also know deep down that Argentina will never achieve its full potential until it buries the past and looks towards the future.

But all of your problems are self inflicted, accept that and look to the future where Argentina's resources are used to help all of its citizens and not just to line the pockets of a few.

Doesn't Argentina conduct unprovoked invasions of other countries, which in the case of the Falkland Islands means that they need to maintain a vigilant defensive posture. Doesn't Argentina embargo air and sea travel to the Islands and try to encourage other south american countries to do the same?

I see that they are off to the UN with another complaint, this time about their naval vessel impounded in GHana due unpaid debts. The UN, with all its real problems (like Syria and Gaza etc) must be sick and tired of Argentina lodging complaints about problems of her own making.

They will have to create a special “Argentina frivolous complaints section” to cope with the paperwork! And this is what we pay our UN subscriptions for!

I would have thought that ALL colonialism should be of concern to all. By its belligerent actions, Argentina is attempting to go back several hundred years and colonize the Falkland Islands against the oft stated wishes of the inhabitants. This should be of equal concern to all South American countries, or do different standards apply in that part of the hemisphere?

103 why have they waited so long to do something if they THINK it is there's? How much are they willing to pay for the Falklands? Based on the oil there.....100 million per citizen seems reasonable.....so maybe roughtly speaking......300 or so billion, or as non Americans say, 300,000 million

    @193 Hepatia,
Ah! l see the problem. A misunderstanding.
You Argentines actually think that the Falklands belong to you?
Sorry to disillusion you but the fact is, the Falklands are not yours.
Never have been & never will be.
Just go away & try to colonize someone else.
    Thank you.

Fine, then let the Falklands have self determination and be free of the yoke of the UK and any other colonial power such as Argentina.
That should satisfy your decolonisation committee.
Of course, another way would be for the successors to the Old World colonialists to return to their ancestral homes and return the lands to the aboriginal populations.
This would leave the Falkland Islanders as the sole occupants of their homeland as there was no indigenous population on the islands
Don't bother with 1833 etc etc - you have done that nonsense to death !

http://en.mercopress.com/2012/10/18/argentina-takes-falklands-sovereignty-claim-complaint-to-the-security-council#comment180533: Las Malvinas is a piece of land. It cannot vote. Additionally, in exactly the same way as the residents of South Carolina could not vote to secede from the US, the current occupants cannot vote to alienate any part of Argentina from the Republic.

I do not understand why this issue excites you so. The outcome is inevitable. Within 25 years Las Malvinas will be returned to Argentina.

#193 “It is trying to reintegrate its territory back into America. ”

You can't 'reintegrate' territory what was not integrated in the first place. Despite what some Argentines might believe, the Falkland Islands have never been part of the Argentine.
During their history, countries in the western hemisphere (or new world) have also indulged in colonialism (the US involvement in the Phillipines is but one example). So, folowing your argument, “old world” colonliasm is bad yet “new world” colonialism is good? Like I said, double standards are being applied here.
By the way, if the Argentine government thinks that it can speak for all the Americas on this issue it is dreaming!

The government of Argentina is not speaking for any other American country. Almost all of America has adopted a policy of opposing Old World colonialism country by country. This is not new. These policies have been held for almost 2 centuries. This is why most American countries support the return of Las Malvinas.

Hepatia.....do not compare apple and oranges with South Carolina and the Falklands. The difference lies in the alliance formed from the Constitution.
25 years nothing....you dingbats need to realize Falklands are not yours. almost two hundred years of crying and ass whippings and you still do not get it. This is a stretch......but grow up already and move on
