The Argentine navy flagship ARA Libertad impounded in Ghana by US investment funds since 2 October has cost so far over 2.6 million dollars, half of which for the repatriation of the 281 cadets and crewmembers, according to Argentine naval and diplomatic sources quoted in the Buenos Aires media. Why doesn't Argentina show the evidence - ie the court order - that disallows them from refuelling?
Oct 30th, 2012 - 09:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0I assume because they are simply telling porkies to bolster their daft breach of human rights claim.
My guess is that it's not a court order at all.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 10:10 am - Link - Report abuse 0More likely, given the lamentable habit of Argentina to somehow not pay it's debts, the Tema Port Authourity would be reluctant to allow them too much credit. Especially as Argentina already isn't paying it's docking fees...
No strategy as usual! Oh..... Except for their lets make ourselves look stupid strategy which they have mastered!
Oct 30th, 2012 - 10:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0This gets funnier every day. If Argentina doesn't settle their dock bills, then the Ghana courts may entertain yet another claim for non-payment of debts and this time the court will confiscate the ship. It will be an interesting catch for the Ghana Navy because most of their fleet consists of patrol boats and fast attack craft. A sail training ship may offer Ghana the opportunity to train naval personnel from other African nations. Who knows, they might even sell it on the open market and get back the millions the Argentines spent.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 10:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0Meanwhile, back in the state of denial, the shame on the Argentine government increases. The longer this goes on, the more foolish they appear. The United Nations or the International Courts will not entertain any claims for Human Rights abuses, when the sole cause of the problem is Argentina's refusal to pay their debts, or pay for the upkeep of their naval personnel.
Cannot wait for TMBOA to come up with her next rant that the Argentines are the victims of all this. She's robbing Argentina blind and the Argentines haven't the balls to remove her and put someone honest in power. But when everyone is forced to be 'dishonest' just to get by, then it must be next to impossible to find anyone honest.
They should reflag it with the Union Jack and then get some real protection from their good friends Great Britain.......Ah....that wont work, they won't allow the Falklands flag to be flown in any South American port and they would impound any Falkland ship going into an Argentine port.......well zipperdy doo dah. This looks very satisfying from our Falkland point of view and now Argentine flagged ships are scared to go into any port, any where in the world.......well zipperdy doo dah !!! :-)))

I cannot imagine that Ghana will seize the ship just for non-payment of USD 3,000 per day when Singer has already offered to pay the costs.
I am still puzzled as to why Singer has not applied for a Warrant Of Possession and remove the ship.
AG will not be going to any International Court over this and if they did there is a VERY good chance they would lose again.
Just more laughs for us at the expense of TMBOA.

@11 Are you sure? That's US$87,000 already. Plus the US$50,000 per day for servicing for all the time before the cadets were evacuated. That's another US$1,050,000. Using only arithmetic, the daily servicing cost might have gone down to US$7,000. So every day would be US$10,000. Will CFK pay out of her own handbag?

Oct 30th, 2012 - 03:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I would say that the statement that Argentina intends to sue Ghana for compensation will settle the case - in favour of NML Capital and Ghana.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 03:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The judges know full well that Argentina relinquished their sovereign immunity when they signed the bonds. Argentina reneged on the bonds and NML Capital holds judgements against Argentina in both New York and London. As far as the Ghana judges are concerned, it is quite obvious that if Argentina wants their ship back, they had better pay the bill. The longer the ship remains in port, the higher the port fees they will rack up and the more certain that the Judge will decide against Argentina.
Talk about digging your own grave.
The Argentine Government have exhibited the sort of stupidity only seen in lunatic asylums. TMBOA wont pay, because she's a corrupt idiot who wants all the US dollars for herself and her cronies and the Argentine people haven't the balls to remove her from office. They deserve to be robbed blind.

Incidentally, as things stand, there is one crewmember confirmed dead and the captain missing (who almost certainly won't be found at all, let alone alive) - both American, not British, Ghanaian or Argentine.
Do you really believe that you're comments are in good taste?
A hefty 50% vulture tax on all imports coming from nations giving help and refuge to vulture founds should send a clear message to pirates and their helpers, if you target Argentina! Argentines will get their money back. Slowly but surely. Or we can expropriate the US embassy for their support to theft from Argentina's tax payers.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 04:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The ship is impounded at the port and being charge for the daily cost or mooring the vessel. What I don’t understand is how can the harbour master (or person of similar position) not order the vessel is to be moved regardless of the Argentine demands. Surly this is like a car park when you hand your keys in. If they need to move your car they can do so to allow for more cars to be parked. Taking that analogy further this surly must be like impounding a car for parking illegally. They can simply remove it to the impound lot until such time as the owner stumps up the cash to have it freed or it is sold on to new owners?

@24 Is that your great insight? Or did you just re-word “Argentina currently is not paying that fee. If it wins the court case and the vessel has to be released there will be no cost and Argentina most certainly will begin a compensation demand against Ghana” anticipated Argentine diplomats. Did you notice that teensy-weensy but so important word: if? What's argieland's track record for winning in the full glare of publicity? They've tried defending this in court. They've tried political arm-twisting. Singer should be able to afford the best lawyers in the world. As I see this case at present, the score is NML 2 argies 0. Will it be three strikes and you're out? Foolishly, the argie Economy Minister is saying that argieland will never pay the hedge funds. That should persuade Singer to take the boat. Another character flaw of argies. Big mouths. Bit like the Falklands War really. We have won! We have won! We have won! Oh, we surrendered!”

Oct 30th, 2012 - 04:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#26 i like the way you put it IF Argentina wants the old relic back we will pay the ransom and give into blackmail, but i think Argentina will be better of setting a import tax of 50% on all nations helping and giving refuge to vulture funds rather then give into blackmail.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 04:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#32 yes it occurred to me that company's importing from rogue nations will stop trading with Argentina and that is the goal, not to trade with nation giving help and refuge to vultures, all nations will have to desire to help the vulture for a stake in the ransom or keep good trade relations with a food exporter. The choice is clear i-pads or food! Before you respond, let me remind you that humanity made it thus far without I-pads, I hear places like Sudan still working in finding a way to survive with out food, hundreds of years of world hunger and it still not possible. Now! Don't Ask again if I care to trade with rogue nations, the answer is a big flat NO.
#30 I think you would understand things better if you read about the Troyan horse and white elephants. I predicted the long term plan but all of it was too obvious to miss, I though the vulture had it all figured out but they didn't think CFK wasn't going to pay ransom or give into blackmail, good for Argentina when people try to push you around you dig in your hills and push them back into their senses.

You links are all the same and go to the same site, which isn't an official site, or even one that has been verified or has ant credibility, such as amnesty international. This is one particular group who are basically saying all of the troops involved are guilty, even though they have yet to go to trial, or that they have been investigated and dropped due to lack of evidence or credibility of the witnesses.
The photographs this site are stock photos. In other words the designers and maintainers of this site have trawled the Internet looking for photos tht 'fit' the alleged crime.
Only a sucker would be taken in by this site. A better reflection of what has and i happening would be amnesty international, or actual Ministry of Defence files, which can be requested using the freedom of information act, unless of course the particular incident is still under investigation, which means that it can't be released until after the CPS decides to bring a case or not. I mean, in the interests of justice, we wouldn't want the case prejudiced, would we?
Next you'll be showing the old front page of the mirror from 2005 which showed photographs of the alleged abuse. They turned out to have been faked by a reservist and his friends who hoped to sell them for money, instead they all ended up with prison sentences.
There were some cases of abuse by British troops, these have been investigated. Some troops have been charged and are serving prison sentences, other cases are still being investigated, so the troops involved are considered innocent until proven guilty.
By the way Guzz, Ghana still has the ARA Libertad, and the Argentine government contine to humiliate the Argentine people by not paying their debts.
Try to stay on topic instead of linking to dodgy sites.

@74 6 cases is that it? your best arguement, tell that to the civilians killed by suicide bombers, the reporters familys watching thier loved one beheaded on live television, public executions in Basra and Bahgdad of women and children for speaking to coalition forces, Shias killing Sunnis and vice versa, your arguement is weak, non factual and so one sided it's beyond belief. The other link you posted ref Mr Winn, he is and always has been an IRA supporter and anti British this has been reported many times in the British press, in fact he was quoted as saying he would hire a peadophile rather than an ex serviceman, so that shows his true stance and lack of morals, so anything he puts on a website will reflect that point, please do some homework before making yourself look stupid, because thats what your doing, if you google something at least read it to find out it's content and check it's validility
Oct 30th, 2012 - 10:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So anti British people are automatically wrong? Are you allowed to kill children because Shia is fighting Sunni? You are defending the murdering of children, you sick bastard!! Lowlife piece of shit, I'm done with you.

Ok, lets say what you say is true,
And in time they will hopefully be arrested and punished,
But hang on just a mo,
199 countries in the world,
Last year alone, hundreds of thousands died for one reason or another,
Terrorist, murderers , freedom fighters,
An awful lot of African countries committing massive atrocities, beyond belief,
Iraq leaders slaughtering their people, even today, they are blowing them selves into jigsaw puzzles,
The same in Egypt , Eden , Somalia , Syria , even in south America, gangs are killing unarmed civilians,
All over the world,
Still,
Why you blame only the British, is anyone’s guess,
But it will solve nothing,
But hey, why cant we all live like Argentineans, all law-abiding people, crime none existent ,
All go to church on Sunday,
A paradise perhaps,
Bullshit,
The brits overall are no better and no worse than others,
So please don’t blame all the worlds’ bad habits on the British,
By standing on a peddle stole.
Argentina is no more innocent than others, in killing civilians….
…………………

We live in a very sad world,
But having said that.
What do you do when others ask for help.
We went into Iraq and afghan, and what happened is for the world to see,
Yet we refuse to enter Syria, and the slaughter goes on,
They now [apparently]
Hate the west, for not helping,[we mean troops]
Just what do you do,
And we have Iran knocking at the door, with a Israel next door, waiting to pounce,
Yep a sad world.

Rule no1:- Don't lie
Rule no2:- If you do lie, don't get caught.
So then Guzz, it would seem that you have broken both rules and the only way for you to regain any respect on this forum would be to re-read my post at 61 ( toooldtodieyoung ) and then answer the questions, honestly................
You can do that can't you? Just answer a question?

Oct 31st, 2012 - 09:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0Long time ago, 'we' fought our own military, back then, they were the murderers.
If by WE he means the Tupamaros, it's a lie. The Tupamaros only fought a democratically elected government, thus helping bring about the dictatorship. When the dictatorship started, some Tupamaros were suffering terribly in jail, a few were snitching on their mates, most were living the good life in exile (mostly in Sweden, France and Mexico). Very few went to live with their paymasters, Cuba and the USSR.

Oct 31st, 2012 - 11:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0Your democratically elected government sent the police on demostrating students, were they shot and killed Liber Arce (1968), an action that triggered the armed resistance against your democratically elected government. Before that, your democratically elected president, Jorge Pacheco, had enforced a state of emergency, repealing all constitutional safeguards. This meant the emprisoning and torturing of civilians.
Historical fact.

Oct 31st, 2012 - 01:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Guzz continues to lie.
Oct 31st, 2012 - 03:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 01. During Communist and Tupamaro-incited mob violence a young untrained policeman was surrounded and shot one of his assailers, called Liber Arce, who became the martyr that every extremist minority movement needs. The Tupamaros had started trying to overthow the democratically elected government years before this incident.
2. Pacheco Areco was the democratically elected vicepresident to President Oscar Gestido. When the latter died, Pacheco Areco became president, in accordance with the consititution. He was granted powers of emergency by parliament, again in accordance with the constitution. These emergency powers were only granted due to Tupamaro terrorism: cold-blooded murder, kidnapping, bank robberies, bombing.
Pacheco Areco attempted a constitutional reform (sound familiar?) to be re-elected; he had insuficient votes and failed. The candidate with the most votes was Juan María Bordaberry. Thus, he was democratically voted in, not handpicked by anyone. Bordaberry later turned against the constitution: treason of even greater infamy than that of the Tupamaros of the time.
A sad but true story, now fortunately behind us. Most Tupamaros changed to such an extent that they are now the democratically elected government, by a clear majority in honest elections. I believe that their relinquishing violence is something to be proud of, especially in the case of those who were tortured.
Guzz one of the tiny group of Uruguayans who are lickspittles of Argentina, but I suppose every country has its traitors and nut jobs.
Unless, of course, he's not Uruguayan at all.
For anyone interested, google Tupamaros, Pacheco Areco and J M Bordaberry and see for yourselves who's version of history is correct.

Moron, the Korean police action would have ended quickly, but Mao saw it as an opportunity to bleed America and did what he could to exploit the situation - maximum US and S. Korean civilian casualties. North Korean military and civilian casualties too, weakening N. Korea and making them dependent on China's favour. Mao was even trying to provoke thebUS into discrediting themselves by using an A-bomb against a civilian population.
Eisenhower did not bite.

I think Argentina saved money by loosing this ship to a 20.000.000.00$ ransom. The ship wasn't even worth 1.000.000.00$ not to mention the cost to maintain a ship who's crew never cut a single pirate. I say we save our tax money and invest in a nuclear defence program 100% made in Argentina. We can't have the illegal aliens in Islands Malvinas Argentina test their missiles in our land and not consider our safety in Argentina, We should consider building a nuclear defence program to keep the british illegal aliens and british war mongers away from Argentina. We demand CFK to close their embassy and sale their offices to the oil company YPF. We love you CFK keep up the good work. Simple mathematics for you so you can sleep safely (should you decide to live in Argentina).
The self defence (they are designed to shoot down aircraft attacking targets in their immediate vicinity) missiles have a range of 4 miles.
Argentina is nearly 400 miles away from the Falkland Islands.
Any bonehead who knows basic maths (obviously you cannot count), knows that ground to air missiles cannot threaten Argentinas landmass, over 3oo-400 miles away.
Argentina is quite safe from these missiles, unless they attack the Falklands using strike aircraft , in which case there will be no need for the officers mess to put back a meal in Argentina as it will not be neccesary when the pilots do not return.
Why don't you buy a calculator, or go to a evening class to learn basic mathematics?
I see they are shifting her to a mud berth... RG lawyers unsuccesfully having argued that it would be dangerous to do so with only 46 crew on board. Yes, a heartbreaker for the Argentines.
If only they could pay $3,000 a day to dock her properly.
I guess not, though :-(
CFK could gain a huge PR advantage if she were to pay for that, personally, but we know she does not care.
Its absurd Ghana is demanding payment at all, its not like Argentina is requesting the privilege of their facilities, they'd rather be gone! And to transfer them to mud in order to physically rot and destroy the ship, if true, really does show a sickening level of partisanship for the vulture fund, which can't be a popular stance in Africa...
