A solemn occasion to remember those of our marvellous armed forces who gave whatever was necessary to overcome a bunch of cowardly, craven animals, known as the AG military.

My thoughts will be with you all.

HURRAH FOR HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II.

    Isn`t it a nice story?

“Getting to know the enemy may be a lot better than bombing them”.
Islanders have something to learn from this nice story. Getting to know your fellow countryman (argentines) may be better than perpertuating a British colony and militarizing the South Atlantic.

“Getting to know the enemy may be a lot better than bombing them”.

If only Galtieri had followed that bit of advice.

Sorry I'll repeat that, if only CFK could do that, without cutting off the Islanders via any means she can, with the lingering threat of military force which keeps the British Garrison on the Islands a necessity for their defence.

    If only...

#5 Ma'am doesn not make a lingering or any threat of violence, and the garrison was kept even when Menem was doing exactly as you want her to do now, no?

    The Olive branch of peace.

How is that going to be achieved if CFK cuts off the supply line to the Islanders by restricting flights, blockading FI flagged vessels etc?

If she was offering a peace, then wouldn't she be co-operative and more open to dialogue with the Islanders?

Your Comment- for information during the time of Menem and Ditela the force levels in and around the Islands WERE REDUCED - we went down to a visiting frigate or destroyer about 2 weeks every 12 weeks, and minimal submarine prescence.
Since Kirschener arrived with you -British Naval prescence has been increased considerably - to match the rhetoric and threats - also the RAF Tornados were replaced with the FIRST overseas posting of the Typhoon Eurofighters.
All this a direct response to Kirscheners Threats. Got It? It is Argentina that has the neck-winding in to do!
Despite all this the offer of direct talks made by the Islands elected Govt is still awaiting a reply from CFK - please ask her why is she not replying?

    Back on topic:

Enough with the feeble distraction attempt.

We won the war - you didn't .

    We are celebrating that.

We are also celebrating our fallen soldiers from two World Wars.
( oh, yeah, you didn't participate, you harboured War Criminals who murdered civilians instead )

We have respect for the War Dead, ours and yours - you don't.

You could not even bury them in Argentina for their families.

Guzz, to his disgrace, was making fun of heroic soldiers dying in battle.

Your commanders didn't even give their troops decent clothing or enough food.

I don't imagine you are going into combat if Argentina invades, again. You and PH and Guzz have no respect or appreciation of the sacrifices and suffering others will experience - while you encourage them with glib remarks.

Do you three gleefully tell your parents, grandparents, children, what you say on here and what you think of people ??

I sincerely hope everyone has their poppys on their chests and that they wear them with pride.

With the acception of the Falklands War a member of my family has been in nearly every war we have fought since the turn of the 1900s.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.” (Laurence Binyon)

Never forget these men and women who died so that we may live freely.

She has a funny way of showing peaceful intentions - she is more like Basil Fawlty - hitting the Falklands with a bit of tree due to her own frustraction at achieving anything actually worthwhile in her own country.

We're countrymen but yes I would like to get to know Argentina better and would visit if it wasn't for the beligerance of your government. Militarizing the South Atlantic, read defending a peaceful population from invading. You'd probably do much better trying to convince people if your defence minister hadn't stated that the British garrison was the only thing stopping Argentina from taking the Falklands
    @5
If the garrison had left during Menem's term Argentina would have invaded by now.

Benson - where is your proof that the Falkland Islanders are responsible for “militarizing the South Atlantic”? There are no more weapons or military personnel in the archipelago than there were after the Argentine invasion of 1982. The Argentine army personnel and equipment far outnumbered any subsequent British military presence.

And, of course, the Falklands Islands is not a British colony - only in your tiny mind and in the minds of the pathetic malvinistas.

Yeah I think you misunderstood me Gordo1, I was saying that the reason that the UK military in in the Falklands is because Argentina would invade if they weren't. There are in fact far less military personal than there were after the war. MPA was built to house about 8000 personal if I remember right, nowadays there are about 700 soldiers plus ancillary staff.
    ps
Just re-read my post, that should have read “We're Not countrymen”

”Getting to know your fellow countryman (argentines)”

However the invitation by FIG to talk with the Argentines has been ignored, which shows the Islanders willingness to get to know the Argentines and also shows the Argentines refusal to take into account 'the Islanders interests'.

No wonder the UK will not talk to Argentina as they are breaking UN resolutions by dismissing the Islanders interests and the possibility of Independance, and also that the UN Charter has to be taken into account, which again the Argentines refuse, (all mentioned in the resolutions).

However as most of the homeborn Falkland Islanders were not born in Argentina they cannot be Argentine (as neither are they English, if they were not born in England).
Argentina is nearly 400 miles away from the Falkland Islands, not within 12 miles.

Live with that and suck on it.

My Great Grand Father fought in World War I. He fought in the Battle of the Somme. His courage did not know no bounds though as he went on to serve as an Air Raid Warden in World War II.

He was so shell shocked that people would have to be extremely quiet around him. Any sudden noise no matter the volume would set him off.

He was a casaulty of both Great Wars and should be remembered along with every person to have fought and/or died since regardless of race, colour, religion, political agenda, creed, etc.

This is a day is not for people to turn into a slagging match. It is a day for respect towards the dead; Argentinian conscript, or British regular, it doesn't matter.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

(Second verse of John McEnroe's “In Flanders Fields”).

The dead know no differences. The timid are just as dead as the heroes.
The professionals are just as dead as the conscripts.
    My greatest respect to all.

The dead of the Falklands conflict rid Argentina of a monstruous government. But the Islanders are still harrassed by a supposedly democratic Argentina.

Is it fit to think that Argentina will know no redemption?

Anyone who prefers war over peace is an idiot. We should all resolve on here that we will never solve our differences between each other ever again by war.

We how that much at least to the dead and the loved ones on both sides.

It is not a time for apportioning blame, it is a time for solemn remembrance and a realisation that war never resolves anything. Ther are no winners or loosers, just victims.

But you have to remember where all the dregs of the world have settled and why.

Peron and his whore of a wife “The Lady” as she was ludicrously referred to allowed the Nazis into the country (for a fee) and things haven’t looked up since.

Why should we expect it to get better? The majority of the population think tax evasion is what they must do (having crooks in the tax office doesn’t help) and the Policia are notoriously corrupt.

AND, these people keep voting this crap into power: they deserve the shafting they get.

I feel sorry for the relatively few really decent people such as Simon68 and my next door neighbour and his family who did not vote for her but are hijacked on this sinking ship just the same.
