Opposition lawmakers pledge to block any re-election bid by Cristina Fernandez

Wednesday, November 7th 2012 - 04:47 UTC
Full article 54 comments

As happened in the Argentine Senate a couple of weeks ago, 107 members (out of 257) from the Lower House, and from all opposition parties, subscribed on Tuesday a manifest pledging non support for any initiative to amend the Constitution with the purpose of opening the way for a second re-election. Maybe Timmerman will run.

    Maybe Maximo will run.

Maybe someone will come home from Canada and run for president.

    Any thoughts?

Maximo couldn't run without losing his breath then stopping for a gatorade and a double hot dog. With cheese.

Talking about election, does anybody know if Obama won or lost?
According to Yankeeboy FredB. he was only one term president, I wonder if he was right...

I wouldn't worry at all about a third term, quite the opposite in fact. I can see a cabinet meeting very soon wherein CFK, Timmerman and co all sit around looking at each other saying “but I thought YOU knew what you were doing?!?”. Swiftly followed by “shite, we've made a real pigs ear of this haven't we. We've got the cash, how do we get out of this mess alive?”

I think the rest of the world is torn on this.

On the one hand they would like a complete change of government to alleviate the domiciled Argentinian people's suffering and allow the economy to recover and rebuild.

On the other hand there are many who would like her to continue in power for many years in order to weaken Argentina such that they can no longer pose a threat as a colonialist or in their piracy, financial or otherwise.

Some comments here are interesting. I have always believed that the 'support' Argentina gets from its neighbours over its Malvinista claims for example are designed to encourage Argentina into doing something really really stupid. Afterall the Argentine armed forces never really recovered from the beating they took in 1982 and successive governments simply will not invest in or even maintain what they have left. Another beating would simply make matters worse and reduce the Argentine threat still further. Of course if they damaged the British armed forces in the process then all the better. War weakens the protagonists, even the winners. If you can stay out of it you are the real winner.

SPANISH NAVY INCURSION: PICARDO ACCUSES SPAIN OF COMMITTING AN ‘ACT OF AGGRESSION’

Activity of the type seen today by the Spanish Navy is a scandalous act of aggression which is illegal, imprudent, unprofessional and irresponsible on the part of whoever authorised it. This action is in breach of the obligations which NATO allies and EU partners owe each other.

“The United Kingdom Government will no doubt respond in a manner which appropriately reflects the seriousness of this matter and the undoubted British sovereignty, jurisdiction and control of these waters as if this invasion of territorial sea had occurred off the coast of the United Kingdom
[we said it once, we will say it again, ]
Until they are physically stopped they will push and push,
And the more you let them,, the more advantage they will take,
Until the British government says, enough is enough,
The next intrusion will be boarded apprehended, impounded, or Sunk.

Bush I think pirate hunter should come home to the roost and inplement that 50 to 150% import tax and then start the nuclear defense. lol
ANy one the Octocer trade surpls figures? They reported it in YTD numbers....October YTD was 11.5 billion.....and Sept was 10.6 billion. The RGs will still lament a surplus, but also the first time under a billion and the trend continues the downward spiral.

  • Pete Bog

    Dear Argentina,

Please elect Pirate Hunter as your next president, or even Timmidman as both these guys will help the Falkland Islands get the maximum of positive publicity for their side of the story.
If you can wangle it please re-elect CFK, as she has at last enticed the FIG MLA's out of complacent hibernation to put their case to the world.

In saying this I offer my commiserations in advance that your economy will be so messed up that you will further slide back as a country, especiallly when Pirate Hunter's nuclear device detonates and takes you back to the stone age
. When you have hit rock bottom and you make Pirate Hunter or Timmidman walk the plank and get a decent leader with political peripheral vision, you could drop or suspend your historically dishonest Falklands claim and they might them be able to lend you some money provided you guarantee to pay it back.

    Yours,

    Pete Bog
PS: If you actually want to make the best of your country instead of sliding into self-destruction vote for Simon 68

ALEX VARGAS for Argentine President !!

    Alex is well qualified.

He went to Vaughn St Acadamy in Toronto, at Dufferin/ Eglinton.
Graduated from the Bacalaureate program there.

That is a low-income neighbourhood, known as “The Jungle”.
Notorious for racial violence and poverty there.

He should have lots of explosive rhetoric stored up for political speeches :-)

There ill be no re-election. The public does not want one. Not bacause they don't like their President but because the Argentine people are committed to their Democracy and believe in term limits at the highest levels of power. Besides, a re-lection requires a constitutional reform. There is not the majority in Congrass to achieve this reform and there won't be in hte next 3 years. Besides the people are happy with the Constitution they have. Case Closed!

You are obviously the victim of some inner turmoil and the only way you can exturnalise it is by lashing out at other people. If you just subistute the word “you” in this text for the word “I” then it's clear. You are at war with yourself

2 Old, didn't you know that as soon as his definition of a “Gusano” was revealed to a sort of scumbag who left SA because they could not freeload there anymore, (paraphrasing here) he changed his story. it seems now thst Guzzano was “exiled” to Europe because he was a brave Socialist, fighting Operation Condor in the 70's.
That would make him 60 to 70 years old now.
He says he has now 'returned' to SA. He did not say, “ Uruguay”.

Recently, when Guzzano mentions Uruguay, he gives a “wink”.

Very TTT, he loves to give out pet names to the opposition, and feels hurt when they do mot like him.

It seems that the year 2015,
Will be a good year for the brits,
Two elections and hopefully one referendum, or at least a date.

1, Cameron fighting for his life, and a second term
2, CFK will she or wont she, [probably not]
    3, referendum over the EU.

Could be a very interesting year,
    In the meantime,
Any bowel movement on the poor little orphaned ship,

If any of the CFK supporters has any sence they would all run. Her time is coming to an end and Argentina has a new oppertunity to start to repair the years of desperation inflicted on her people. Then drop the stupid Falkland islands claim and maybe , just maybe the Falkland Islanders might start relaxing a little. Though i reckon it would take many generations to even begin to build a trust relationship with Argentina after what they inflicted upon us in 82. Those acts will never be forgiven ever.

This is silly posturing by the right, if Cristinistas sweep Congress next year on a reform ticket and the 7 of the 28 anti Senators lose their seats, the momentum will be impossible for a few lukewarm Senators (5 is over 2 3rds of 72 you know) to block, and ma'am may yet indeed be a “third term Dominatrix”.
