Ghana port authorities, GPHA, on Wednesday re-established water and power supply to the Argentine Navy flagship ARA Libertad retained in Tema, according to naval sources from Buenos Aires. Read full article
Well since this is an Argentine report we should wait for independent confirmation.
Personally, I don't think it does the Ghanaians any favours to deny the Libertad's crew water. Power, however, isn't necessary for the maintenance of life, so could theoretically be cut.
Argentina should just move the ship, in line with the perfectly legal order given by the Ghanaian courts.
The longer they refuse, the more likely the Ghanaians will force the move, even if it means boarding the vessel. In that case any crew that tries to resist could be arrested for contempt of court.
The Argentinian's won't do themselves any favours if they let this get out of control, recent events have shown the underlying tension, even if this ‘camaraderie event’ was a success.
Just allow the move, and then everyone can see that they are being helpful. Start waving guns around again and far from being the victim Argentina will look like it is trying to bully and push people around again.
@1 I wonder about this. Is Ghana's navy undermining a judicial order from a Ghanaian court? Could this get the Ghanaian Navy into court for obstruction?
The court has made no order on the supply of docking services - it has merely ordered the ship to be moved which has been appealed. We're waiting for the result of that appeal which I imagine will be to move the ship.
I suspect the Ghanians will turn up better prepared once they have authority from the court.
I think the Argentine navy should of shot the pirates as its done everywhere else in the world. A bullet in the head is a lot more humanitarian then to kill someone of thirst. The argument is perfectly valid since it was Ghana who started the confrontation against Argentina. It was ghanas choice to choose war and confrontation over dialog, if they want to confront Argentina by force we will meet them half way on the cat walk. Simple, but I am all for charging 50% import tax from every nation giving help and refuge to the vulture funds. Let's do the math here 50% fee on US products plus 50% ghana imports could cover the vulture theft in a few decades. Not to mention Argentina moving forwardby itself without anyone's help. Imagine that. CFK WE LOVE YOU, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
@8 I don't think you love Argentina at all. Your posts would indicate you hate the country you are exiled from because everything you suggest would be more harmful to Argentina and CFKC than anything suggested by other posters.
#9 I do love Argentina and my people. For that reason I do not bow down to CIA or mi6 terrorists. I rather confront them with the same tactics they use on the poor. You obviously live in fear while I promote the way of the english. For that reason I support a nuclear defence program for Argentina, while you run hide and pay, lol keep doing what you do and you will always get what you got, the definition of insanity is exactly that. I rather charge 50% import tax on all US and ghana products and run our any english pest from our land, if that will harm your friends ask them to go back where they came from. You would benefits from reading this link to know what scam Argentine tax payers are being suckered into paying, if you don't agree with it maybe you will like to buy the obelisk from me, Or about the CN tower? http://www.gregpalast.com/the-globalizer-who-came-in-from-the-cold/
I am as exiled from Argentina as the brits in Las Malvinas Argentina, they seem to think they can tell Argentina what to do but yet Latinos have no right to stand up for their beloved land. Read my words not likely. WE LOVE YOU CFK, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
@10
you are so much fun, if you were older I would suggest a job as a stand-up comedian. Never mind how bad a day some one may have had - to come to MercoPress and read your comments has to make one laugh.
@10 You are the one cowering in Canada. Stand up, be a man and go back to your beloved land. I doubt you would get a warm welcome. Most of my Argentine friends speak with contempt about the people that ran away.
I don't live in fear. I travel the world and meet the most amazing people. I have to say, the only people I meet talking about conspiracy theories tend to have taken a few to many drugs. Which in your case would explain a lot.
All looking good for Argentina. No wonder the comments have been less and slower than on the water-being-cut-off thread! On a lighter not, Joseph Smith must be sorry about the US Presidential result =)
Argentina should start to put pressure over British interest in Argentina.
This fund NML or Elliott Capital is acting from a British Overseas Territory (Cayman Islands) so UK should be responsibly for what is been doing in their the jurisdiction.
UK companies in Argentina should be advised that further action from NML capital will have major impact over their investment in Argentina. Prime target companies Shell, Unilever, Young and Rubicam, Metro Gas, Cadbury Argentina (bloody is not British any more), BP (oh f@ck is not British any more) BAE (F@ck again is not British at all).
Well really will be hard to find any British company even in the world because seems that Britain since 30 years ago had been sold out by the neocons Tories and Labour party.
Re thinking again I start to feel sorry about poor Britons because they had been depraved by all govts from everything that they use to be proud of.
So Let’s bomb Cayman Islands and make a charity fund to help poor Britons.
