Argentine dissident organized labour concentrated at the emblematic Plaza de Mayo and claimed the government of Cristina Fernandez was applying IMF recipes by halting wage hikes for workers and called on the Lady to address inflation and rampant crime. Read full article

@1 According to posters on here who are more familiar than I am re Moyano, he is pretty awful as well, just in a different way to CFK. Let's face it, if you realised you had a chance of being President, or even a President-maker, in a country as corrupt as Argentina, you'd grab it with both hands and wait for the riches to roll in.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 07:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0The real problem for ordinary people in Argentina is that it is impossible to see an alternative - where is the leader who will change things for the better, end the incompetence, corruption and cheap nationalism and put the country back on track to make proper use of its natural resources and be a valuable member of the international community?
inflation going up! wages going down!... please hold on to your possessions while the ride commences. This guy is said to be as big a joke as frau frump, so the mullet-strokers have nowhere to turn in the ballots.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 07:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Unfortunately there is no free market alternative in Argentina, so if they don't like high inflation, currency restrictions, import restrictions, a non independent central bank, nationalizations and all the other hassles that go hand in hand with a socialist/nationalist government , then they better get used to it because there will never be change. Argentines want to suckle from the bosom of the state, this is when they are at their happiest, so I don't expect any change soon. Socialism, para todos y todas!
Dec 20th, 2012 - 09:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0The problem is that a large portion of the population is anti-work, while they don't care that the rest of us have to pick up the slack. Finding a business with hours of operation that they actually follow is rare. The siesta is another tradition that just screams laziness.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 11:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0My friends joke and say, why don't we leave Argentina and start our own country without all the lazy scum. Then they can wonder why their welfare checks aren't coming in anymore.
It will require a cultural change if Argentina is ever to reach its' potential.

Dec 20th, 2012 - 12:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm not convinced Moyano is such an awful person. His problem, and other people's problems, is he only represents one segment of the population, (workers.) This is the problem for many. Gangs of men roaming the streets, buses full of union protesters beating drums while careening down the street, does not suggest the best image for Moyano. Be glad he is not Luis D'Elía.
An interesting BBC World Service programme broadcast last week dealing with the 'official' inflation figures.

Gov't is pushing for a 20% rise in salaries this year, after 30% inflation in 2012 and expected inflation of 37% in 2013.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 01:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Long ago when stupid Axel was saying inflation is not an issue because everyone's wages go up more I told him that can't last forever and here it is.
These Rgs are so short sighted they could never survive outside of that crazy country they have created.

Actually, a 20-30 minute siesta boost cognitive function by 30% and alertness by almost 100%, in tests done with oral, video game, and simple iq exercises. So you have no idea what you are talking about. It is a natural human rythm to have a sleepy period around 1400. What isn't beneficial or detrimental is a 3 hour siesta.
When I can I close my eyes for 25 minutes after lunch. My attention and concentration in studying is way way higher when I do that compared to when I just keep on going.
Peronista politicians have always been a bit like the pigs in Animal Farm...they preach equality for all but tend to live high off the hog, whilst stuffing their pockets with whatever they can get their hands on.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 02:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am surprised that CFK doesn’t appear to know Abe Lincoln’s famous caution to politicians:
“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time”
Peronista politicians have always been a bit like the pigs in Animal Farm...

Of course cognitive function and alertness is ZERO for that time period, perhaps longer.
You guys can rationalise anything LOL
@11 People can do as they like on their lunch break, but on a cultural scale it's bad business. I also am very familiar with polyphasic sleep. It's amazing for college students as well, but seeing an entire city shut down for a couple of hours a day is a complete waste.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 04:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Having 4 hours of snooze in the middle of the day, combined with a 3 hour day consisting of sitting around doing nothing, consuming 30 kilos of raw meat, and getting sour about no one wanting to buy your things whilst not paying your debts, is not the sign of a good business culture.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 04:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That's half the reason the Spanish and Argentine economies are in freefall. FACT.
One of the really annoying things about living in BA is that the utilities, water, gas, phone and most gov't offices won't answer their phones until after 10am! Then there is coffee 1030-11, then lunch 12-130 and they finish the day around 4 or 430.
Dec 20th, 2012 - 04:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Then add on the gov't holidays and 5 weeks of vacation!
You can't get anything done in that horrible place!

Dec 20th, 2012 - 07:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Look, you believe what you want to believe, I'll puth my faith in science, reason, theory, and method.
I know that in the USA, Canada, UK, and Europe you are in the midst of an anti-science, anti-empiricism groundswell. I am aware of the ardent rejection of scientific thought which now suffuses all facets of life there, and how you have retrogressed towards purblind superstition and obscurantist folklore. You are free to pursue that path.
But please, get off my back when it comes to questioning science here, that is the one solitary transgression I will not brook with any longanimity. Your ”reply' was de minimis, go burn incenses if you so wish.
Wise complicated words,

Only the scientific failures are really ignored,
So I doubt if the northern countries are anti scientific,

After all, where would we all be without science.
Just a scientific thought.

I can well imagine that people think clearer after a nap.
However, while you are sleeping, your co-workers are working, producing, cooking fries, etc. - making money for your employer.
Again, your output is ZERO. You are producing nothing for that period.
A cultural thing, I suppose, as @21 Briton said.
How's your summer job?
I'll have a Coke with that Big Mac, please, while you kowtow to the US multinational. :-D

If you think this will annoy us, you couldn't be more wrong.
It just shows what a mindless inept drone you are. All these threads are past the point of any meaningful discussion and you points, if any, have already been disproved and derided, earlier.
I ask you again, do you get paid by the thread?
