Full article 81 comments

A rash of looting and ransacking of supermarkets in Argentine major cities and several provinces left two people killed, dozens injured and hundreds arrested. The looting and vandalizing of supermarkets began in the Patagonian resort of Bariloche on Thursday and seemingly triggered a knock-on effect across different provinces, as similar incidents began to arise in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Chaco provinces. I remember the same thing happening in Argentina back in 2002, the difference being that people back then went for foodstuff as their primary target. These people going for 50 inch LCD TV's makes me believe they are nothing but common criminals, especially having in mind that they seem to have been stopping and mugging cars (and the drivers) when forced back by the police.
Even so, there must be a reason for the civil disorder and clearly not everything is a one would like it to be in the proud nation that is Argentina.

In my barrio, only 2 of the 5 local small Chinese store are open. The others are shut down, closed. We'll see what it's like tomorrow. The government is blaming Moyano (they need a convenient scapegoat.) He's pretty pissed about it and there may be a showdown. I don't think they should have picked him,..a stupid move that will not make things better.

That guy Moyano is saying the government is behind this and they are doing it to victimize themselves. If that is true, the current government would surely draw points from this situation and comments like andy65 at #7 makes no sense.
Actually, blessing criminals makes no sense whatsoever, and is only proof of failed morals and lack of respect for the law.
I understand one can criticise Argentina's politics, but there is a big step from doing that and hailing common criminals just because it suits your ideological agenda.
I'm truly sorry for what you are living through and give my respect to those people who understands to differ ideologies and agendas.

eventhough this has been orchestrated, it shows that many argentines are still poor and suffering. too bad my goverment neglects them by understating the true inflation figures.

The Argentine government may be able to proove this indeed has been orchestrated, something I have no proof of or will present as a fact, but what really worries me is that either way, it's astonishing that should that be the case, it still doesn't answer the question as to why so many people are prepared to brake the law in order to follow instructions from someone else.

A government that is in control and doing things correcly, would never have to fear their citizens being canalized to perform these actions.

What an astounding realization that these poorly planned disturbances by punks have taken place in Chaco, Santa Fe, Entre Rios, and Buenos Aires... Anyone with more than just the brain stem can very well evidence a pattern and surmise an illative deduction. Lesson of the day, which I shall keep esoteric so that only the cultured people here may ruminate upon it:

Wir haben zu viele fremde Gammler in unserer Gesellschaft, die das Sozialsicherungssystem gefährden.

Idiots! Riots are never orchestrated, once they start they get out of control. Very quickly and very violently, if you think someone can control a riot, you've never been in one. I have, and they are very, very, bad!

    Dec 21st, 2012 - 11:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0

But of course can you orchestrate a riot, reality check. It's true that they are impossible to control, but not at all impossible to orchestrate.

That said, there is no proof at all that these ones are being orchestrated by anyone, and as I stated in my above comment, it makes little difference regarding to the indication of how things are going in Argentinas political spectre.

Actually Moyano is saying the Govt. is victimizing him and the unions. http://www.ambito.com/noticia.asp?id=668593 (one of many sources.) And, it will make no difference “to prove this indeed has been orchestrated.” because the proof will be very murky and vague.
On another note, talking to one of the small Chinese store owners,..one of these small stores 3 blocks from me was looted and thus the reason some have shut down. I live near Barrio San Telmo.

There is a world of difference between Thoreauvian Civil Disobedience and Communal Garden Looting. Curiously being a proponent of the former is a reason often used by the US border agencies to refuse a visa. Even though Thoreau was himself american and had fans such as Ghandi and Martin Luther King.

I didn't see any political orchestration in the LA or London riots. It seemed to be bored teenagers propelled by mob-rule.

@9 You're funny. On a “political” level, argieland misses no opportunity to demonstrate that it has no regard for law, treaties, agreements, respect or anything else beside greed and selfishness. It seems that the populations of Bariloche and other places have taken this on board. The penalties of showing an example. Hey ho, argies, how do you like it?
@11 How nice to see argieland reaping what it has sown.
@12 What a shame. What you need is some isolation. Follow that by ejecting all those who are not indigenous. It will meet your requirements. Simple clarification. Any “white” person is not indigenous. Eject them. That reduces the population by 97%. The social security system should be quite adequate for the remaining 3%. Especially as the “white” criminals should be removed with only the clothes on their backs.
@19 Where do you get the epithet “criminals”? Have these people been convicted of any crime? It looks to me like a group of disadvantaged, deprived people, people that CFK is supposed to represent, have decided to restore some “balance”. Since the “government” doesn't give a toss.
@23 Oh yes. The Venezuelan “Bolivarian” solution.
@32 Won't it be funny when the tanks break down part way along the road? Using the example of navy equipment.
@42 Any possibility that CFK is going to follow the British example? Renaming the Pink House as the Blood-Red House? Redecorated with real blood.

    My Christmas wish for you,

For I wish you hope and joy and peace

I wish you happiness and friendship too
    Throughout the coming year
    Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend

This is really tragic, and suspicious too - I certainly wouldn't put it past the Moyano/Clarin axis to do this as Cristina is on a roll and all their corrupt asses are in danger...
