    Jealousy and envious,

    Cfk will not be amused,

She will now summon the Uruguayan ambassador and make a formal protest, for aiding the enemy as she sees it,

    A formal protest will be sent to the UN , O A S , and the F A ,

You seem to forget that the two black slaves that were amongst the 22 civilians who elected to stay in the Falkland Islands in 1883, were freed under British rule.
I believe one of them lived for quite some time in the Falklands. They would have stayed slaves under Vernet.

So much for your Argentine crap about a transplanted 'English' population in 1833,(none of the civilian population staying in 1833 were English, though I do believe many of Pinedo's sailors were, you know, the
ones who were transplanted to South America and not allowed to stay in the Falklands )?

I cannot find reason for you to call the U.K. cowards, we did not surrender in 1982, the Argies did. FYI, Have you noticed that all our army vehicles are left-hand-drive the reason being that we don`t wage war on our land we take it to you ( so much for being called cowards !) As for nuclear weapons, we won`t use them on you, we don`t have to; as I have already said we take the war to you. 1st. your airforce runways will be obliterated, 2nd. all fuel depots will be incinerated, 3rdly. any civil airport used for military use will join the airforce runways, kaput ! there will no more Argie flights or indeed any missiles over F.Is. All this we can achieve without using a single aircraft, SAS, SBS, Marine commandos come to mind. Sorry, Argentina would be as dead as your lamentable post. May I wish all Argentinians who have not swallowed the same sick diatribe as you a , Very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

@6 Thanks for clarifying, alex. You're unemployed. Probably unemployable. Still spongeing, eh?
@13 “Perverts, homosexuals and child molesters”. Go to argieland. All that is legal there. Go now. Get in on the “ground floor”. In the next couple of years, it won't just be legal, it'll be compulsory. You can get yourself shagged at immigration, again at customs, again by the bus or cab driver. And the hotel clerk will want his share of your butt. Bet you're looking forward to it already! “Self-determination”? Can't have that in argieland. Implanted population. Also, minimum 60% faggots.

The British government, has it on record that the British only wish to be friends,

Too many people here abuse and presents theor ideas like enfuriated teenagers, and when confronted with their own inmaturity, they point at their opposition. You'll never make me believe that this childishness is because Argentina invaded the Falklands 30 years ago, or that Pirate-Hunters idiotic, homophobic and racist posts sets the foundation for any discussion. “Lets not go down that road,”

I don't actually wish to go down that road, but Argentina insists on claiming the Falkland Islands using history that does not exist, and tries to insist the Falkland Islanders are a transplanted population from Europe, but deny that they themselves in the 19th century were also transplanted from Europe.

They try to deny the Islanders the right to live very modest livesin a democracy and govern themselves, rather than talk to the islanders and earn Argentnian $millions, (which is going to Chile and ther UK instead).

The Argentinian governmnet attempt to economically blockade the Falklands, the type of actions the UK themselves once were guilty of (our side don't deny the UK have not had a squeaky clean past), are threatening the peace of the region, therefore as with 1982, making it neccesary for hte UK to post a detterent force in the Islands.
If the UK are so bad, please tell me an instant where British thugs break into Argentine properties in the UK with the suspicious absence of investigating police as recent state sponsored Argentine thugs broke into and smashed up shipping offices, without any appearance of the police?

If the Argentines did not bully the Falkland Islands (it knows bullying the UK failed in 1982), I might not even be commenting on Mercopress, but I do emphasise that the main target of the posters are the Malvanistas, whom I have great pleasure in riposting.

Best Wishes to you at Christmas, Simon.

Your posts from Argentina have been very enlightening.

Please stay safe and enjoy your Christmas. Wishing the best to Argentinians who are targets of their own politicians. Hoping for dramatic change or the better, in the near future.

Hahahah, you trully are inverecund aren't you.

Last time I checked, if gay partners lived together 50 years and one died, the other has virtually no inheritance benefits in the retrograde nation called the UK.

I'm sure when Scotland becomes independent, at least the situation will get better for the oppressed LBGT British populace...

    In Scotland at least.

By the way... it took Argentina 1 1/2 days to quell the “riots”. I think it took the inept angl0-saxons one full week.. and your cities were literally BURNING.

UK police did not use the right tactics for sure. The early mistakes made in london gave rioters elsewhere reason to think they could get away with it. thankfully nearly every perp has been identified and appeared in court. Somewhere around 1800 perps methinks.

Haha if there was ever an example of “inverecund” it'd be your use of archaic English.

But thanks for highlighting how deep and rich the English language is-much more so than Spanish and indeed many others.

Anyway, “Last time I checked, if gay partners lived together 50 years and one died, the other has virtually no inheritance benefits in the retrograde nation called the UK”

Time to check again. Just because Argentina enacted same-sex marriage before the UK doesn't mean they trailblaze all rights. Britain's civil partnerships predate Argentina's by 5 years. Open military service by 9 years. Ability to legally change gender by 4 years. Argentina doesn't even have national anti-discrimination or hate speech protection.

Complicated language bundled with shallow knowledge.

Your continual harping on about Scottish independence also highlights your own immature understanding and belief in self determination. Few countries so openly enable a sub-national unit to vote on independence. So thank you for hilighting the strengths and maturity of the UK.

A comparison with the 2011 riots in the UK again shows you up. Argentina didn't have riots. Just lots and lots of looting. In 40 cities at last count.

    Let's compare the differences:
    Cause-
UK: Mark Duggan is shot by police
Arg: ???? Hunger? Poverty? Inflation? Unemployment? Christmas?

    Response by national leader-
UK: leave cancelled and parliament recalled 4 days after start
Arg: Where's Cristina? 6 days and counting.

    Length:
UK: 4 days (“I think it took the inept Anglo-saxons one full week” there you go thinking again)
Arg: 2 days though there was more looting in San Miguel de Tucumán on day 3.

    Government action-
UK: Day 6, PM promises to cover uninsured facilities and buildings and set up a £20,000,000 fund for businesses affected.
Arg: Day 6? Pointing the finger still.

It's all very well to savour schadenfreude and deflect but it really doesn't tackle what just happened in Argentina.

You are such a benighted, contumelious, and haughty specimen. In other words, a tribute to your race.

I've always highlighted to your incurious compatriots the fabulous panoply of English vocabulary, with the nuance and holophrastic qualities it provides. Yes, more so than Spanish and other languages. Ironic is it not, that they are the ones who obstreperously denounce me for making usufruct of it. Nor do they take the time to augment their lexicon. I as a lowly argie have more enjoyment in usage for you own language than most of you ever will.

Of course, as is ineluctably typical for you gauche Britons, you eventually allow vainglory to usurp your higher noetic functions. A hamartia of yours, and this proclivity inevitably results in embarrassment and gross negligence of facts.

Spanish has a FAR richer temporal field than English. Spanish allows for the placing of events and actions in ways no English speaking person will ever comprehend or grasp. The equivalent of trying to expound in words to a two-dimensional creature what a 3 dimensional world would be like. Furthermore, it can enunciate many temporal points of reference with superior deftness and eloquence (english requiring clunky and ackward periphrastic constuctions like “I would have been working for the whole day” = “Hubiera trabajado el dia entero”.... four english words for just to elegantly collocated Spanish verbs).

German is clearly superior in expressing spatial relations (“Wir gehen in den Garten hinaus ” = “We are going out into the garden from an inside location”, all that information just with the use of the pithy “hinasus”), and also has a freedom of word order that permits emotional emphasis English as an analytical language can never achieve (“Dich hasse ich!” = “YOU I hate!”... But in German this sort of positioning sounds far more expressive and not artificial.)

I could go on, but I think I have humiliated you enough.

As for the other claptrap, nothing happened in Argentina.

    So that boiled down to.

You're silly like the rest of your race (racism much?).

I love using English. Others should too. No one listens when I say this.

Britons just don't listen and make silly mistakes. (I'm not British-silly mistake).

Spanish is better than English regarding time usage through grammar.

German is better than English regarding spacial location through grammar. Oh and has great word order. It rocks!

I humiliated you (somewhere..... I'm still trying to find that one).

    “nothing happened in Argentina”

Exactly! Nothing to see. Move along. Excuse me sir, would you like some bread and a ticket to the circus while you ignore is.

This is so easy I almost feel guilty. Almost.....

I just wanted to point out to you that it is rare to almost impossible to asseverate that any language is “better” than another. Almost always being the case that when a language simplifies or restricts expression in one area, it compensates by becoming more complex or richly expressive in another.

English was wise enough to openly embrace words from any source and from all invasions of Britain in history (from Scandinavian “welkin”, to Norman “lunacy”, to latin “expunge”, etc, etc, etc).

I never said that English was “better” than any other language. Just that it was deeper and richer than other languages especially Spanish.

But very nice deflection. Most on here would fall for it but I don't. Understandable since I've bested you at every claim today. But you can take solace in your linguistic abilities.

As to the article, funny how other countries such as Uruguay and Chile are deepening their ties and cultural exchanges while paying lip service to Cristina. But it just continues 30 years of Argentina shooting itself in the foot when it comes to the Falklands. If there is any one country pushing the Islands towards eventually independence it is Argentina.

They've painted themselves into a corner and handing all their power and control to the Islands and UK to exercise.

You must be daft as well as ethnically elitist. “Deeper” and “richer” without any restrictives clearly states you are attributing such qualities to the language in its entirety, and not just to a particular facet.

If I say I am better than you, it is an implication of entirety. Compare that to saying “I'm better than you in language and debate” (but perhaps not in arrogance or ignorance). In other words, you are better in certain things, and I'm better in others, and not in everything.

And your “specially” Spanish is another unsubstantiated jab. You have provided absolutely no evidence to your statements, because you are speaking out of your arse. And that's that.

Uruguay and Chile and Brazil can do as they wish. Argentina has no interest in any sort of exchange with the UK.

Don't get upset with me just because you continually highlight and lavish praise on yourself in your use of English. It isn't me who expounds on this and fills these forums with verbal diarrhoea in a vain attempt to hide a complete lack of ability in arguing any point and dearth of facts.

Resorting to insults as frequently as you do only highlights your deficiencies. I don't want you to stop because you are only shining a light on yourself. You are racist and make false assumptions with little information.

While your anger is palpable, you'll never elicit the same reaction from me. Indeed I can't even break an intellectual sweat with you. So sorry no insults - blatant or otherwise.

I plan on being on these forums a lot, so you will soon grow tired of being bested (time to research, that doesn't mean I'm saying I'm better than you as you mistakenly claimed.

It would seem that Uruguay, Chile and Brazil do indeed do as they wish. Further proof that Argentina's geopolitical and economic strengths are on the wane. With Brazil entrenched as the regional power and Chile the regional economic superstar, I expect the noise from the Casa Rosada to reach a particularly shrill point soon.

Hunting down world leaders at forums to ambush them will become an embarrassing memory when Argentina suddenly finds herself at less and less of them. I'm even predicting Colombia replacing Argentina at the G20.

“I would have been working for the whole day” = “Hubiera trabajado el dia entero”.... four english words for just to elegantly collocated Spanish verbs).

'would have' = 'habría' (conditional), not 'hubiera' (past subjunctive)

    would have 2 syllables
    habría 3 syllables

I would have been working the whole day 9 syllables
habría trabajado el día entero 13 syllables
habría estado trabajando el día entero 16 syllables

    'hubiera = had

If I had had the time, I would have worked the whole day 13 syllables
Si hubiera tenido el tiempo, habría trabajado el día entero 23 syllables

In speech there's no particular advantage to using an inflected verb over a verb phrase.

You are scratching at the surface of temporal translation.

To clarify, the “si” clause of past-clause of irreversible outcome is normally ”si + past perfect subunctive + past conditional). However, in many dialects it is acceptable to replace the past conditional from that, thus: “si + past perfect subjunctive + past perfect subjunctive”... So “Hubiera trabajado todo el dia si hubiera querido”, is fine. In fact French has a literary construction just as this. See the bottom of this page:

    http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/si-clauses-conditional-sentences_4.ht

Your translation above is literal and not conceptual, which is an understandable mistake most people make. That is why non-natives can't really master a second language... most are simply unable to create a new linguistic conception and are irremediably constrained by the conventions of their native tongue.

To translate “I would have been working”, you don't need an equivalent progressive construction in most Spanish equivalents. This is because the Spanish past tenses have both discrete Aorist (perfective completed action), and Imperfective (undefined past finality) tenses.

So, to translate “cantaba”, you can't say “I sang” in English to express the nuance vs “canté”. It is impossible. Germanic languages have lost that ability to express perfective/imperfective aspect.

Invariably you need to say “I used to sing”, “I would sing” (but this in many speakers causes interference with the conditional), or “I was singing” to approach a more accurate translation.

Similarly “hubiera trabajado” is a pluperfect subjunctive, which is imperfective in aspect. The perfective equivalent is “hubiese trabajado”. Now, most Spanish speakers have lost the ability to discern this distinction; obviously I am a far superior Spanish speaker. Just as I am a far superior English speaker, and eventually a far superior French, German, and Portuguese speaker. Being superior is in my nature.

I digressed. I'll go on next time.

“For me to use my intellect would require a commensurate stimulus from the opponent. Sorry, but you have not succeeded thus far.”

I don't doubt that you have not used your intellect. I've never worked under that assumption. Your inability to articulate any coherent argument, lack of any sort of knowledge outside of linguistics, continued false assumptions and resort to insults speaks volumes about you without me needing to intellectually stimulate you.

“Argentina's geopolitical and economic strengths are on the wane? If so, and?”

Haha very interesting turn of phrase. Imitation is the highest form of flattery after all.

So what happens? Well people listen less. So say you are trying to gain disputed land for instance and you were ignominiously defeated when trying to use force; well then you fall back on international and multilateral institutions. Sorta like ambushing a country's PM at say... the G20 summit. Also when countries dispute your other territorial claims and unilaterally rename a chunk of it, well who will support you when their action is recognised and supported by others. So you have to stand back and take it and look at Queen Elizabeth Land on maps forever after.

Argentina's chickens are coming home to roost. The Falklands have never been so far. Chile has surpassed Argentina on a GDP per capita basis and is set to become Latin America's first developed economy-a future that Argentina had all to itself for so long. Brazil shudders every time Argentina creates another loopy policy. And Colombia is courted while Argentina is ignored.

For the Islands, Uruguay seems quite happy to step into the breach. Economically and culturally.

Isolationism has only really worked for one major country. That evil empire up north, the US. It didn't work for communist Albania, pre-1980s China, North Korea or Myanmar. And check out pre-1990 India for autarky.

Not sure why you bought up the UK or Europe, I didn't. You may now have the final word.

Altogether, seems like a successful initiative, probably because there was cooperation and forward planning from several sides, including Falklands, FCO-British Embassy Montevideo and of course, Rubén Sosa.

Rather different than the rather one-sided presence of Rugby Sin Fronteras last year - showing up in Stanley to coach rugby where there appears to be little interest.

RSF seem to be earnest, involved also in using their rugby coaching to reduce Middle East tensions as well, but concern in Falklands (as reflected in Mercopress ) seems to be impression of a bit too much “Malvinas”-flavoured attitude.

To show friendly international attitudes are really growing in Argentina, maybe Falkland Islands Cricket Team might be hosted for a tour by Cricket Argentina?
