A day after Argentine President Cristina Fernández sent an open letter to be published as an advert in several UK newspapers calling on PM David Cameron’s government to re-open negotiations over the Falkland/Malvinas Islands, the UK responded: “the Islanders remain free to choose their own futures.” Read full article

Enough said really!
@1 I think you've said enough.
Jan 03rd, 2013 - 10:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thank you CFK. Really, we couldn't generate such good press ourselves. Come on March and the internationally recognised referendum where we will exercise our right to democracy and self-determination.

The UK could discuss the UN resolutions with Argentina.......
Jan 03rd, 2013 - 11:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 01/-The Islanders don't want independence yet, but this is what we've done to give them more autonomy since 1982. What has Argentina done to give the Islands more Independence? Nothing? Oh let's move on.
2/- We are taking the interests of the Islanders into account , what are you doing to take the interests of the Islanders into account? Oh nothing again, let's move on.
3/-This resolution has to be discussed taking into account the provisions of the UN Charter. But as you don't believe in those provisions you are technically against this resolution-shall we meet again next year to give you idiots an opportunity to understand the wording?
And can you please bone up on your history, not the fantasy stuff from never never land.
Simples. Argentina will never agree to the provisions of the resolution, as it only requests the participants to talk and asks for a peaceful resolution-it does not suggest Argentine sovereignty.
In UK they can do as they wish. But Islas Malvinas Argentina is not in UK is it?

Free? Persons are free, Intitutions are free too, but, weak in someplaces. Falklands need strong institutions, but far to the englishs, because our SA is romantic, romains, strongers, masoquistas, preserved identity, the last flower of the Lácio, but too, friendly, open market for ours. My favourite bits are:
... Vernet had the authority of the United Provinces of the River Plate. Argentina, as we know it today, did not yet exist; it came into being with the bloody conquest of Patagonia and the country assumed its present name in 1853.
... It is, therefore, hard to take Argentina’s claims seriously. “Malvinas” is just a Spanish adaptation of the name the French gave the islands.
The Falklands, as the map shows, is an older name than “Malvinas,” and, apart from a brief and chaotic period in the 1820s when the mainland was also in turmoil following the collapse of Spain’s Latin American empire, no independent South American country ever tried to colonise the islands. Nor are there any known descendants of Vernet’s settlers living in Argentina today who can lay claims to some “ancestral homeland.”
Moreover, most Falkland families have lived on their islands longer than the vast majority of Argentine ones can claim to have been in their country. Argentina, too, is a country of settlers of mostly European descent.”
Rubbish and more rubbish Argentina will not get back those islands without a good fight... So lets be prepared for a good war...
Jan 04th, 2013 - 06:12 am - Link - Report abuse 011 DanyBerger!!!!!! What the fuck are you on? You morons tried that once we even gave you prime position by letting you take up positions to defend your so called right to those Islands and your country still got the shit kicked out of them and were turfed of them with our size twelve boot up your arse's.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 07:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0That was when Argentina had some sort of military might ( well you all thought you did anyway) I guess you found out the hard way that there is always a bigger bully in the playground that does not give a shit when push comes to shove.
So bring it on Dany boy prepare you finest boys and girls for a war, strut your stuff act like peacocks while the rest of us look on in amazement at your feeble country's attempt to be some sort of player in the real world. But remember this!!! The next time your country comes knocking at the door with an agenda for war we wont be stopping at the Falkland Islands we will come knocking on your shores something that we should have done in 82 and we will make sure there is no where for you people to hide, it will be that bad you people will be on your knees begging to become British as we kick you up the arse's
You want to know what war looks like, think its big to threaten another country with war do you? Well Dany boy I am up for it like I was the last time so bring it on lets finish it once and for all bring all your best mates and as many as you like and I will bring a couple of mine lets see who is last man standing shall we.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 09:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0Don’t worry wars are good for the economy and also a good opportunity to test new weapons.
Tell me how did you know that your Royal Navy have a weakness and could be sunk so easily?
Yeap! Thanks to Argies pilots that sunk many UK ships.
Can you see?
Ok some people die in the process but people will die anyway and for many stupid reasons so why don’t to give them a good patriotic reason to die and be remembered for so many years?
Tell me who is not proud to have a grand dad who fought in WWII and killed so many enemies?
Eh!
If we didn’t have WWII how many of our grand dads now will be not remembered or even worse they are remembered as Grand Dad the drunk, goo for nothing homeless, etc.
Then think you are having a serious problem with unemployment, so are you going to waste this opportunity to have a really bloody war with the Argies and bring this nasty unemployment numbers down?
Ok, Ok I know 10.000 Brits less in your statistics will not produce and impressive result but remember baby steps are some time much better than adult running.
Oh! Bbdog you are disappointing me you don’t need to bring any mine or something like that.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 12:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina will not get back those islands without a good fight... So lets be prepared for a good war...
That is the only way Argentina can get the islands as your claim lacks legality, but do you really want to be embarrassed again?
Still, I am sure the Brit troops will be scared stiff to see the Libertard sailing towards the Falklands, and your 1980s vintage flight optimistically hoping to get within 400 miles of the Falklands without doing submarine impressions.
I won't warn you of the infantry you will be up against, but they'll give you a very warm reception if you pop your head above the shallow depression in the ground you will be kissing unless you fly the standard white flag issued to all Argentine forces in their ration packs.
@11 ”prepared for a good war...” ......involving argentina? seriously?
Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0brief sea exchange at best.
but i really do hope argentina make that mistake, just remember one thing HM Forces are a completely different animal than in 82 :))), for argentinas non existent forces good luck but you will find pots and pans will be ineffective against such superior might let alone the threat you dont see ;)))) as i have read previously this time around the argentine people do need to feel the effects of war right outside their front door with a few cruise missiles, something they have never experienced, that way they will not be too quick to wage any war if they know the consequences, regardless if they believe they can hide under the S.A umbrella. Dany you Should really give peace a chance, warmongerer :)))

Those are the ones that dared to get into the air.
Now for the ones that we destroyed on the ground.
9 FMA IA 58 Pucará
1 Agusta A109 Army
1 Boeing Ch-47C Chinook Army
2 Aérospatiale Puma SA330L Army
4 Beechcraft T-34 Mentor Navy
2 Skyvan 3-M Coast Guard
2 Bell UH-1H Iroquois Army
Now we have all the ones that we captured.
11 FMA IA 58 Pucará
2 Agusta A109 Army
7 Bell UH-1H Iroquois Army
1 Boeing CH-47C Chinook Army
1 Aérospatiale Puma SA330L Coast Guard
3 Aermacchi MB.339A Navy
2 Bell 212
Then you lost a 1 Aérospatiale Alouette AI03 Navy that went down with the Belgrano. Along with six more that crashed in bad weather.
Now Dany boy lets go for a hat trick of Argentine own goals shall we. Jan 05th, 2013 - 05:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well, if CFK was intelligent enough to persistently offer to help the Falkland Islanders(even though they would see through the bluff), ie 'we want to help you -no preconditions, but if you don't want to take us up on the offer, that's fine', you would find that would really hit Cameron and the UK government for 6.
Instead CFK has been the biggest gift for Falklands autonomy and support from Britain for many years.
Can you Argentines not work out that Cameron is not (like many UK politicians) overly popular, but repelling pieces of innacurate nonsense/disowning pathetic cheap stunts from the Argentines is an absolute political GIFT for Cameron.
The fact that the FCO are only marginally less ignorant than the Argentines concerning the context of Falkland Islands history (ie even an MLA last year did not know that the resident population of 1833 was allowed to stay, just north of where he lives ffs ), makes it even more incredible that all Cameron has to say (and rightly of course)is that the Islanders have the right to self-determination, and he wins.
You are right Dany-if CFK is stupid enough to attack the Falklands and Cameron is seen to immediately repel Argentina he will recieve another huge political gift wrapped in gold paper, tied with a nice bow signed love CFK.
They did repel those heavily armed dock workers that tried to move the IOU Liberturd.

I heard he abandoned his family in FI and went to Argieland after the failed invasion.

50 silver pesos comes to mind. Probably thought they were going to give him an important job in the new provisional government, after they ethnically cleansed the islands of course.
Jan 06th, 2013 - 08:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What makes him even more odious is that he was not of Spanish descent, he could have at least tried to justify his treason by claiming that.

Apparently, two of his brothers were also there during the war. one a Merchant Seaman with the Task Force and the other an active member of the Resistance before and after the landings. I believe these two brothers are much respected on the Islands.
One of them recently appeared in an interview, during the recent Liberation Anniversary Celebrations.

Unless, having never been to the Islands, there are an inordinate amount of people walking around on peg legs, missing an eye, complete with pet parrots and rum consumption on a per capita basis is inordinately high.
As for the Heroína..... it is indeed interesting that the first declaration of Argentine sovereignty over the islands was made by the American born Jewett not long after he became an actual pirate.
So Argentina's sovereignty is based on an action by a real life pirate.

The national government repudiated the militaristic threats made by the Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, who said he was ready to fight to maintain colonial rule over the Falkland Islands. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which he asks the premier to not use the legitimate and peaceful demands made by Argentina in international fora to continue to support the arms industry, rather than alleviate the severe social crisis being experienced Europe .
The response of the Palacio San Martin insists Britain require that meets the obligation to accept the resolutions of the United Nations to resolve the issue peacefully Falklands.
The aggressiveness of the words of British Prime Minister confirm the complaint made by the Republic of Argentina to the United Nations about the militarization of the South Atlantic and the possible presence of nuclear weapons introduced by the colonial power, said Foreign Ministry.
During an interview with the BBC, Cameron said it is absolutely essential to have fast jets and troops stationed in the islands and stressed that his country has one of five defense budgets in the world.
Therefore, the portfolio by the Minister Héctor Timerman asked the British premier do not use the legitimate and peaceful demands that Argentina made against the usurpation of part of our territory and against colonialism as an excuse to continue to support the arms industry rather than alleviate the severe social crisis currently affecting Europe.

Jan 07th, 2013 - 02:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Only Argentina doesn’t have any legal right over the Falklands, and never did. Argentina does however, have illegal intentions of colonising them, against the inhabitant’s wishes.
This explains why there are no negotiations.
The UK Military are there to protect them, as we know what would happen should they leave.
Personally I would up the defences to send a clearer message.
Stop indoctrinating your children with lies and teach them the real history which resides in the archives in BA.

Jan 07th, 2013 - 03:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0With all the respect you deserve, you are dead wrong. UK has no legal claim to the islands. Remember that the Decolonization Committee of the United Nations considers the Falkland Islands as a colony. Of the 16 cases of colonialism in the world, 10 are for the UK they are: Anguilla, Bermuda, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Monserrat Island, Pitcairn Island and St. Helena Island.
Just look at any web page concerning the decolonization committee of United Nations refers to are a colony.
Besides the UN resolutions are referred to a colony.
See 2065 (XX) of 1965, ratified by later resolutions 1973 (3160, XXVIII) 1976 (31/49), 1982 (37/9), 1983 (38/12), 1984 (39/6), 1985 ( 40/21), 1986 (41/40), 1987 (42/19) and 1988 (43/25). They all declare the existence of a sovereignty dispute. No self-determination. It is a territory to colonize.

Keep in mind that the specificity of the Malvinas is that the United Kingdom occupied the islands by force in 1833, expelled the original population and did not allow their return, thus violating the territorial integrity leaving Argentina Therefore, the possibility of applying the principle self-determination, as its exercise by the islanders, cause the disruption of the national unity and territorial integrity of Argentina. In this regard it should be noted that Resolution 1514 (XV) Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples in the sixth paragraph states that Any attempt aimed at the partial or total disruption of the national unity and territorial integrity of a country is incompatible with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Jan 07th, 2013 - 03:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You really do need to step outside the box and take a look at how ridiculous your country’s demands are. The entire fabric of Argentina, is constructed purely by colonialism and annexing. Maybe your country should be on the decolonisation list too!
After the referendum, the FI’s will be removed from this list. They are a self governed overseas territory. They don’t want to be governed by Argentina. You need to read the real facts in your archives. The original population WERE NOT removed by force but invited to stay, which many did. This is where your education system has failed you.
How do you think the islanders feel, knowing that they are continuously badgered by a bullying neighbour? I have it on good authority that the residents living there, who’s ancestry goes back to the Provinces of the River Plate, would rather be under British sovereignty anyhow, and will be voting in favour of this come the referendum.
Raul you know the real history and refuse to believe it.
Jan 07th, 2013 - 07:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You also know that territorial integrity has never been used in denying any people the right of self determination.
You now this too.
UN resolutions are subordinate to the UN Charter. You know this but can't discuss it because it destroys your arguments.
And you also know the reason the UK has such a large military in the islands.
But that reason is ignored.
For every fact you claim there is a rebuttal but that will never stop you repeating them. And that's why Argentina does nothing but whine about this claim.
@66
Jan 07th, 2013 - 11:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0is that the United Kingdom occupied the islands by force in 1833, expelled the original population and did not allow their return,
No, actually most of the original population in 1833 were invited to stay, and they did so, amonst them were two British people who were there before HMS Clio came.
However, you will note that most of Pinedo's crew were British , who were booted out by, yes, the British.
Matthew Brisbane was a colonist under Vernet before 1833 and he returned after the Briitsh left (you seem to have forgotten that the British Navy did not come back untilJanuary 1834, unless you count Charles Darwin , who was just visiting). So settlers did return to the colony, from South America.
If anu one can tell me please, maybe Raul? What time did Thomas Helsby(? The guy who witnessed the Rivero murders) show up, and was he English, or was he one of the 2 British settlers that stayed in 1833?
Oh yes, Raul, of what nationality was Pinedo's second in command then? Bet you can't answer that one can you?
Every time you peddle this lie someone will remind you of it.
Mr Cameron stated yesterday that he was willing and able, if the events required it,
Jan 08th, 2013 - 01:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0to send a British task force back to the Falklands, to defend British interests,
Asked if he would go to war, he stated, if to defend the Falklands he would,

You do not want to comply with international law. Do not want to comply with UN Resolution 2065 of 1965, ratified by subsequent resolutions 1973 (3160, XXVIII) 1976 (31/49), 1982 (37/9), 1983 (38/12), 1984 (39/6) , 1985 (40/21), 1986 (41/40) 1,987 (42/19) and 1988 (43/25). Certainly have to study the true story. They need to hear other bells speaking Argentine rights.

Correct. However not one of them denies self determination.
Thank you for the links. Here is one for you:
http://www.un.org/es/documents/charter/
Also thank you for the quote from the Argentine constitution which has primacy in Argentina only.
Here's a quote from another constitution:
CHAPTER I
PROTECTION OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF THE INDIVIDUAL
Fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual
1. Whereas—
(b) the realisation of the right of self-determination must be promoted and respected in conformity with the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations;
Yes that's the Falkland's constitution. It has primacy in the Falkland Islands.
So tell me, which constitution adheres to the UN Charter and which one doesn't?
