@ #1. Agreed a very well deserved recognition. Few have worked toiled more hard and determined to ensure the Falklands have a secure political and economic future from offshore oil, and hopefully gas. A sincere, multi-talented falkland lassie, whose skills base has permeated through to most levels of Falkland society and who is very capable of delivering much more to ensure the Falklands future socio-economic fabric is sustainably knitted and bound together.

Agree and nice to see she has been justly rewarded.

Never ceases to amaze me, the quality of the people who serve the Islanders and who consistently demonstrate their commitment towards them and their future.

I always found Mercopress to be biased against leftist governments. I also always found unusual that Mercopress always shows news about the Falklands when most South American media provide almost no coverage of the islands for the obvious reasons that they are not that relevant for the region (except symbolically). But now I get it (and you just need to check the sponsored ads on Mercopress to tell this): Mercopress is funded by Falklands business and organizations.

You will find FelipeSC that a leftist government can only afford the occasional advert in the free press, which is why most Argentine press is government controlled.

Firstly, well done Phyllis. No doubt well deserved.

Secondly, @5 Peronism isn't leftist. Peronism is supposedly the 'third way', like Blairism, and involves three major components: 1) leftist speech, in order to get popular support from the peons who you need to vote you into office, and you tell them anything they want to hear because you typically cannot get sued for misrepresentation. 2) Right-wing actions, because you need this in order to keep people in line when they find out that you're not really delivering anything vaguely socialist; 3) Corporatism, you have to be in the pockets of the companies who provide you with the money you need as an individual.

Only uneducated morons vote for populist third way governments (Front for Fail, New Labour), and suggesting that Mercopress was biased against leftist governments would be completely incorrect.

Another example of the pro-Falklands anti-left bias of Mercopress is houw the agency calls itself: “a South Atlantic News Agency”. It is in fact about South America but does not call itself South Ameerican; it calls itself South Atlantic but barely says anything about the South Atlantic coast of Africa. This should be called “Falkpress”.

@8 The South Atlantic doesn't mean America or Africa... it's the blue space in the middle with lots of nice peaceful islands in it.

FelipeSC : What a tinfoil hat conclusion, And a dumb one at that. Like the government cares enough about the thirty or so people who post on this website.

But yes you are absolutely correct about them mostly posting about the Falklands. And there is a rather simple explanation that does not require you to be an idiot or insane to work out.

Mercopress are a business, Built on advertising via this very website. 99.9% of people who post here do so purely because of the falklands. Check the Spanish. version of this site: It's dead

This website serves entirely to provide a place for people to argue about the falklands situation. They know there customers and post mostly post stories people on here will reply to. This in turn gives them revenue via advertising.

    Simple economics.

@7 Peronism is about one thing, and one thing only: perpetuating itself in power.

Meanwhile, congratulations to Phyl Rendell, a truly charming, hard-working and talented woman.

I have met both Mrs. Rendell and Ms. Fernández de Kirchner, and find the former far more agreeable.
