Disclaimer & comment rulesNo matter what your opinion on the Falklands case, these people smashed up a private business premises. It wouldn't take two minutes to figure out exactly who they were and arrest them. The fact that nothing's been done only shows that the Casa Rosada doesn't care and in effect approves of this sort of behaviour.

Jan 09th, 2013 - 08:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0In Ushuaia there is a less switched on lady - but one who has now been shown the facts of economic life by the traders and business folks there - and has realised a “neck-winding in” is the sensible and practical course- rather than hand a big sector of your economy to neghbouring Chile!
In Buenos Aires the nutters and fanatic - encouraged by the Maximo group - could not give a damn about the jobs of those involved in the business and would not understand economic facts if they were smacked in the face with them- and that probabaly incudes Christina.
Plan - to get ships to cance Falklands calls.
Actual Results to date - more ships have cancelled Argentine Port Calls instead!
Prediction for 2013-14 Season - Buenos Aires may well almost dissapear from the cruise ship map and Uruguay and Brazil will be laughing. Chubut and TDF will keep calm - and still get a number of ships but TDF in particular needs to be carefull!- Chile is a peacefull alternative.
We will see.
I am surprised that the dock workers and others whose living is being destroyed ,dont give these idiots what for,have they no backbone?

They the nutters from Quebracho and Malvinas Resistance and are complete nutters, similar to the types you'd find fighting for the taliban if they were muslim, or in the BNP in the UK. I had a few twitter exchanges with one of the leaders of Quebrecho, who invited me to “visit them in Argentina so we could go for a little walk” Needless to say, I won't be taking up their kind offer. Last year they tried to hijack a fishing boat in Montevideo with the intention of sailing it to the Falklands (it was a boat that was used in the conflict). Shame they didn't get anywhere as the navy could do with some target practice.

It is an word they like to project onto others but up and down Latin America it is the first word used to describe Argentines. I hear it all the time. They genuinely believed that no one would chose the Falklands over Buenos Aires as a port of call. I remember our resident nutter, TTT, proclaiming that no cruise chip would avoid Argentine ports, and he really believed it.

They are not interested in silly gangs of twats chasing lost causes. They choose cruises because they see it as a safe way to see exotic destinations and they would sooner not go than be threatened.

One of my brothers is a mining engineer in Peru & he has told me the the Peruvians he comes into contact with, say just that.
“We don't like the Argentines because they are so arrogant”!
And Peru is supposed to be one of their friends!!!
@11 Yes, I hear it all the way up to Mexico. There is nothing wrong with appearing confident but they actually believe they are superior. This is based on two factors; they are whiter and more European (ironic), and they are richer, than other Latinos. As one Chilean put it to me, “They base their superiority on the past when they were a wealthy country”.

When I spend long periods of time in a country certain traits become apparent. On a personal level I find it amusing that Argentine men have huge, paper-thin egos (easy to pop) and Chilean men will never, EVER, admit they are lost when driving. Even when reversing on the hard-shoulder of a busy road after missing a turning, or shouting out of the windows for directions every 100 meters, or sitting in the middle of nowhere at a dead-end, will they admit they are lost. (Easy to wind-up)
Home goal after home goal. The Cruise industry should ignore all Argentine ports and cut them out of their schedule until such time that these thugs are caged, charged and properly dealt with. Seeing that this is probably never going to happen, these Cruise firms, British or other flaged ships, should stay away from Argentina. That should teach them more lessons in where their arrogance gets them...you reap what you sow idiots.

@14 LOL, like the old joke that men drive twice as many miles as women because they won't ask for directions? Sure, I have come across it with men but it is pathological in Chilean men. They become deaf if you offer directions; blind if you show them a map. I mention Chile because I regularly hire drivers there and at first assumed that they may have taken a cursory glance at a map, or attempted to plan a route before setting off. Even when questioned closely they will swear up and down that they know where they are going; they never do.

Wonder how many “cruise ship passengers” might be SAS and SBS troopers in civvies? In which case Malvinas Resistance, Quebracho and La Campora might get a surprise. Those guys are fairly well-known for shooting first and asking whether they should have “negotiated” some time later. Two or three dozen “opposition” corpses tend to give one a fairly strong “negotiating” position. Besides, they are probably criminals anyway.

If the upscale clientele from NA and EU experience more of the same Argentine 'hospitality', the message to the outside world may sink in, “we don't care for you, we hate you, we're jealous of you, we will use violence to intimidate others”.
Perhaps that will raise Argentina in world consciousness from, “we don't know anything about them” to a more enlightened, “ we don't know what their problem is, but Argentina is scary, violent, unpredictable, and they don't like us”.

Now the hard shoulder: you see we didn't use to have them, so when we get an extra lane added to the road we have to give it some use. Overtaking is one use and reversing back to missed turnings is another very use for hard shoulders - got to give them some use otherwise it's all wasted investment.
You ever been at a Red Light on a two lane road in Italy! man, it's like the starting line at a demolition Derby, not to mention all those bloody scooters mixed in between the cars. I was warned, but still could not believe it the first time I experienced it! every Italian male is an apiring F1 driver.

My youngest son frequently asks me to stop on the train line when the train is coming to get a better look at it. I sometimes oblige, you see it is not an electrified bullet train travelling at 300km/hr, it is a dirty diesel travelling at 30km/hr tops.
Occasionally you hear about a car being hit by a train here. It makes me wonder what they were doing, you would actually have to fall asleep on the crossing for this to happen.

They have lost countless opportunities to bury the hatchet and let go of their daft claims. It could have been so different, a good relationship with mutual business and contracts for oil, fishing and tourism, open travel and international respect from around the world. Now all they have is a big fat nothing, no respect, no trust and a worn out population living in La La land.
