UK wants to control South Atlantic access and resources, claims Argentina
Argentina claimed at the CELAC summit in Chile that the UK has converted the Falkland Islands into one of the “most militarized territories in the world” with the sole purpose of exploiting the natural resources of the Islands and control access to Antarctica. Read full article

There is no militarisation, and the more Argentina bleat on about it the more foolish they make themselves look.
The savage 'issuing' of fishing licenses is amusing, especially as Argentina publicly told the world that they were going to encourage over-fishing in the hopes of damaging the Falklands fishing industry, while the Falklands have held out the hand of friendship and cooperation, only to be ignored by the 'we only want peace' government, that says one thing and acts in a very aggressive and threatening manner.
And the reason that Argentina wants to resolve things by peaceful negotiation is lying on its side in Port Belgrano.
I don't understand why the UK needs soldiers to exploit the natural resources of the islands. Are their search and rescue pilots able to spot oil fields. Are their missile battery operators also trained in operating oil rigs? If I was a suspicious man I would think there was some other purpose to this military presence on the islands that Argentina objects to.

If you were paying attention, you would know that the UK does not want to have a garrison on the falklands and the Islanders themselves do not want a military presence either but we HAVE to have a military presence on the islands because if we didn't, Argentina would be in there like swimwear.
Before you could say “We want to remain british” the Argentine government would have their own military presence on the Island and would have deported all the Islanders to Montevideo.

Love the way CFK twists stats. There are roughly 1,000 men, 4 Eurofighters one frigate and possibly a submarine. Hardly the most militarised zone in the world. She's just annoyed that it's enough to see off anything she could throw at it.

An Argentinian Government official says that if the British Military were not there, something(or someone) would take physical steps to attempt to stop Falkland Islanders developing any business sectors involving natual resources.

The Royal Navy currently has active: 4 assault ships, 13 frigates, 5 destroyers, 15 mine countermeasure vessels and 23 patrol vessels (again excluding HMS Clyde), which neatly adds up to 60 commissioned ships.
By the logic of ArgentinaMaths, the UK is currently being defended by HMS Echo, HMS Enterprise, HMS Scott, HMSML Gleaner, HMS Bristol and HMS Victory.
If they want a latin america free of colonialism, I suggest they all go back to where they came from and leave the continent to those few remaining indigenous people that were there before the Spaniards, Portuguese etc.

I didn't realise that the British forces based on the Falkland Islands are so technologically advanced. In order to “control access”, surely a ship or aircraft should be able to reach an “intruder” in about half-an-hour. It's 3,875 miles from Stanley to Cape Town. At altitude, a Typhoon can manage 1,320 mph. That's Stanley to Cape Town in 3 hours. But it would need 2 refueling tankers because its range is 1,800 miles. But just to get where needed in half-an-hour, they must have a higher speed. So those Typhoons must be able fly at close on 8,000 mph. And the ships must be fantastic. Just imagine a 4,900 tonne frigate at 8,000 mph!

The military personal at MPA has decreased by about 90% since after the war. MPA was built to house 8000, now there are about 750 soldiers plus ansiliry staff.

Should there be a need to guarantee against attack the exploitation of natural resources and hydrocarbons, this might need more deployment.
There seems to be no need at present as there are no significant pointy weapons aimed at the platforms.
If they were damaged by 'enemy forces', then there would be a need to deploy for attack as well as defence. To take the war TO the 'enemy' needs the use of special weapons. It must be fervently hoped that this never becomes necessary.

Special weapons fall into many categories and dependent upon the adversary and the force needed to subdue it, will determine the weapon needed.
In the case of AR, to subdue the whole country and prevent them from getting back into a belligerent state for 50 or more years could be accomplished by the use of non-nuclear tipped rockets and cruise missiles.
Destroying their electricity grid and alternators, the transport nodes for trains and vehicular traffic including buses and a substantial part of the docking facility (except foodstuffs) would be a good start. Not that many people would be killed but millions would be reduced to a medieval existence.
I firmly believe that only when the people who voted these thugs into government get to pay their dues will they really begin to think what has brought this about.
After all, why not? TMBOA seems determined to subject the peaceful people of the Falklands (there are STILL no Malvinas you prats) to much the same or even total extermination. Instead of wasting the UK military budget on useless forays into Asia why not spend it supporting our own people?
No doubt some will think this very harsh but it is better than the alternative.

NATO is not involved in the Falklands - the islands are defended by the UK. So, we are back to a few aircraft and one frigate on rotation with a garrison of British troops with NO capability of landing troops on S.A soil.

Good news! The nice elderly Argentine couple who've been renting my Punta del Este flat every February for years have arrived! They've paid the rent with a large supermarket order, as they weren't able to buy dollars in Argentina except on the black market. They paid the supermarket bill with their credit card - for some reason this they are able to do. Funnily enough, the supermarket involved is called TIENDA INGLESA. I couldn't find one called Tienda Falklands, which would have been right and proper.

Either that, or their education system must be seriously lacking as they clearly have never heard of the border between the two Koreas or that between Israel and Syria.
