Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will surly be observing this Argentine childish petulant behaviour on the worlds diplomatic stage, After all Argentina have stated in the past that they only wish to talk, give peace a chance just talk. Haha what amateur fools they really are. The whole world is laughing at these fools.
Feb 01st, 2013 - 08:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Timerman was born in Argentina but his father only emigrated to Argentina in 1928. Knowing this he calls Falkland Islanders whose families have lived on the islands since the 1850s trespassing colonialists? How does that work?

Feb 01st, 2013 - 08:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thank you for your input, it is highly literate and valuable.
However, it is important to get facts correct on these forums.
The current islanders have had the Falklands for 180 years, it is possible that there is a bloodline back to the Vernet community which could make it possible for 184 years.
Compare that with the only time Argentina has had the islands...74 days in 1982 and the only time the United Provinces of River Plate had the islands around 60 days in 1832.
So something like 62000 days versus 130....most of the 62000 have been peaceful, almost none of the 130 were.
And as a reward for their 62000 days, the islanders will shortly become an oil rich state...80,000 barrels per day by 2019....who knows by 2029.....
Hardly for nothing Julio....hahahahahahaha

Feb 01st, 2013 - 08:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The whole sovereignty saga is partly down to the UN, sending mixed messages out. Its obvious to anyone that if an implanted population like Argentina has the right to self-determination then so do the Falkland Islanders. @8, oh puleeeeze, Phil :-) Timerman didn't step into a trap, he stated openly that he was planning to walk into a bear cave with his little planned passive agressive press stunt. Lucky for him it was only a metaphorical one! Real bears don't like it when are within 100 feet of their cubs, let alone $#@& with them. In the gentle world of UK diplomacy, the bear just asks you to sit with her cubs for a bit and listen to what they have to say and you can then leave with your limbs still attached your body. From what I've seen watching Animal Planet, I'd say he got a pretty darned good deal there.

There are various matters of mutual interest that could be discussed, for example the conservation of fish stocks in the waters of the South West Atlantic.
Broken Faces! They believe that we will discuss fisheries issues with thieves on the Argentine Sea. Why not we discuss fisheries issues and why oil in the North Sea?

Ey should be negotiating with the Patagonians, not the Argentine thieves who stole the Patagonian land in a blatant example of 19th century colonialism.
I would suggest that next time the rightful, democratic and ONLY owners of the Falkands Islands want to discuss South Atlantic issues they should seek out Patagonian Amerinians..not the thieves, pirates and genocidal colonialists from Buenos Aires (Madrid)!!
@Clyde15 There are 6 flights a month from the UK to the Falkland Islands, via Ascension Island. From South America, Lan Chile flies once a week from Santiago de Chile via Punta Arenas (in Chile) to Stanley. This Lan Chile flight has a monthly stop-off, in both directions, in the Argentine town of Rio Gallegos. Passengers can board here.

Censure today, expulsion in September. 8 Months of standing on the trapdoor with the noose in place. The great irony is that if they just wound their neck in, dealt responsibly with the IMF (as Britain as had to do in the past) and come up with a sensible plan then everyone would respect them for it. Ignores the essence of integration of 16 nations to precisely defined as COMMON WEALTH?. It seems that lives in his own world, where he is the chap
2)The 40 decisions to which Foreign Minister Timerman said Argentina exctamente you must negotiate and UK considering rights (through Resolution 1514/60 which directly prescribes autodetrminación and the Charter of the United Nations) and interest of the inhabitants of the Islands. The first and most important decision in this regard was the 2065 in 1965 and then in Argentina but did not move from the controversial hypothesis that respect the interests not listen to the desires, much less consider them. This theory bases sat Argentina between 1965-1982 at the height of fascism ruling also understood that a military elite military friendly could interpret the interests of Argentines without listening and respect their wishes ... It's amazing how firmly holding this government that theory absurd. In modern international law, the only way to preserve the interests of a population is listening to it and interpret and to execute his wishes in the most clear and honest as possible

“Why do you hate the Falkland Islanders?
What have they ever done wrong?”
What about stealing to start with?
Clarin Pinochio! and why not finochio?
It is an ugly fact that since the 1940s the Argentine government & bureaucracy has carried out its policy of systematic political & economic persecution against the Falkland Islanders with the aim to ostracise them from their geographic neighbors by deliberately exploiting regional bigotry against peoples which do not share the same hispanic culture as the majority of Latin America in order to deprive the Islanders of their rights
Feb 02nd, 2013 - 08:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0To say to present day Falkland Islanders go home to Britain! is equally as racist bigoted &wrong as saying to black African Argentine immigrants go home to Africa! The facts are that the “go home” sentiment applied to immigrants is an unpleasant & unreasonable. especially for descendants of immigrants who are born in a place and have always been there. These people are native to that land and know no other place. The place they are born and grow up in is there home. It is in their heart and soul; that is where they feel they belong
For a native Islander, Britain would feel no more like home than Spain or Italy would feel to an Argentine born in Argentina of Spanish or Italian descent. However, the racist view that cur Islanders must be dispossessed of their homes & forcibly deported as scapegoats for the past is de facto Argentine government policy
The fact is the Argentine Constitution offers no protection for the Falkland Islanders whatsoever whilst such bigotry against them exists within Argentina the region; the Argentine government & Argentine people shall never be respectful of the way of life of their inhabitants according to the principles of international law. Past acts and omissions of the Argentine government & popular bigotry are clear proof, including Timerman's contempt for the Islanders & complete lack of respect for both Islanders & the Argentine constitution

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0You are spot on. Many Argentinians strongly believe that the legal tail wags the moral dog. (In fact, this is a Latin-American disease.) For them, a right is whatever the State allows its citizens to do, and so they have no philosophical tools to protect natural individual rights against bogus group rights. Such backwards cultures should not be allowed to prevail over the Western heritage of freedom.

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 11:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0@82:
Yes. It is a deeply disturbing aspect of this dispute that the Argentine state systematically persecutes the Falkland Islanders because they are an ethnic minority in the region
The record speaks for itself; the Argentine popular stereotype of the Falkland Islanders is that of an implanted people without human rights. The purpose of the stereotype is to dehumanize the Falkland Islanders; to scapegoat them as a collective object of hate for the Argentine populace -rather than see them as individuals just like each individual Argentine- in order to socialize the acceptance of outright hostility, prejudice & discriminate against Falkland Islanders because of their ethnicity
The facts are that the Falkland Islanders are ordinary people with wives, mothers, brothers, fathers & sisters, just the same as modern day Argentines. Both peoples descendants of European immigrants to the New World, who have built their homes & livlihood over many generations of toil. The two may be separated by their British & Hispanic cultural identities, but remain equal in human rights under international law
The fact that the Argentine government argues at the UN against equality in human rights for the Falkland Islanders & the fact the Argentine people are complicit in their support the disenfranchisement of the Falkland Islanders & sequestration of their belongings is repugnant
The source of recent anti-Falkland Islander decrees by the Argentine legislature lies in the indoctrinated hatred implanted by decades of state propaganda directed against the Falkland Islanders; the fevor with which the local populace support the Gaucho Rivero Law of Attainment against the Falkland Islanders is proof enough
Argentina is obligated to take its claims against the Islanders to the UN International Court of Justice to prove them & to uphold the Islanders rights, but Argentina prefers to derogate its obligations in favor of its ugly prejudice of ex post facto attainder
Please continue, but are you suggesting the Falkland Islanders were given the role of the Jews in Peron's version of fascism?

We see this practically through the extensive use of obvious lies, ignoring of agreements, borrowing money without intention of paying and ignoring of the constitution. It also manifests in the high level of crimes seen in these countries.
Fundamentally a culture with this type of nihilism ascribed to it will NOT coexist well with the western cultures where law, rather than power, is the prevalent force.
Argentina is always going to be a mess because of this. It's basically a pre-savage culture.

Very simple Monty, SAM land and people was colonized, since 1810 the people of SAM (that fought against its colonists) decided to recover its land and returned it to its real owners (6.000.000 of mixed people between indegenous and criollos against thousands of only spaniards). Feb 02nd, 2013 - 12:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@85. Yes, well said.
@84. Elaine, that is an interesting hypothesis, but no, I think that analogy is fallacious. However, there is no doubt the Islanders are subject to state sponsored persecution and discrimination; they are routinely stereotyped as different and less worthy than Argentines or Hispanics because of their ethnicity. They are a regional minority and are considered to have lesser rights to live in their homes than hispanics
What I see is an expansionist Argentine government that paradoxically declares the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands and their children born there to be Argentine nationals with the rights of Argentines enshrined in the Argentine Constitution whilst simultaneously declaring the inhabitants attaindered and denying their rights under national, constitutional and international law.
The source of this discrimination in Argentine society is at least in part based on the Islanders enthnicity; there is a belief that these 'Argentines' are not true Argentines and do not deserve the protection of the law and thus since Argentine society agrees the Islanders can be safely subjected to hate crime and discrimination. The past of 180 years ago is blamed on the present day Islanders and the present day Islanders are to be punished for the past by their forced deportation
Such premise would be ridiculous if it were not actual fact

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 12:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There is absolutely no factual evidence from Argentina or the UK that states settlers were deported from the islands.
But lets say for Arguments sake, they were deported. In the real world people can only abide by laws that are in existence. 180 years ago when these people were expelled there was no such notion of human rights and no such law was broken.
In 2013 there is such a law. And the islanders have the right to control there own future.

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 12:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If any Argentine wants to emigrate to the Falkland Islands they can apply to the Falkland Islands Government to do so, just like ANY one else can.
The FIG control who can live on the Islands, and will only choose people that will add to society, regardless of their original nationality.
In fact, Argentines have had 180 years to go and live on the Islands if they wished to do so, and apparently they didn't.
Remember that immigration control in the 19th century was non-existent on the islands.
An even bigger question for you Malen.
In 1833 after the murderous mutinying troops from the United Provinces of the River Plate were expelled by the Royal Navy, no British troops were left on the Islands. Only a British flag entrusted to one of the colonists.
If the United Provinces truly believed that the Islands were theirs, why did they never return? I mean all there was to stop that return was a flag and a few dozen colonists.
So why did the UP not return? Is it because they knew they didn't own the Islands and realised that the British were not just going to give them up?
Come Malen, you've got all the answers, don't you?
No UP troops returned. No Argentine or Uruguayan people turned up on mass to populate the islands. In fact, hardly a word was ever spoken about the Islands until 1941, when your Nazi loving President thought he could steal the islands while the British were busy fighting against one of the most evil regimes the world has ever known.
Come in Malen, show us the proof, and tell us why?
Come on Malen, if Argentina's claim is so solid why won't you take it to the International Court of Justice?

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 01:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This is clearly not true - Argentines (or rather their predecessors, as Argentina by that name did not exist in 1833) lived in the Falkands immediately after 1833, as the non-military population of 1833 largely remained in the islands. Since then many Argentines have made the Falklands their home. There is nothing to prevent an Argentinian coming here now, either as a temporary visitor, or after a meeting certain qualifications (the same as for anyone of any other nationality) as a resident or eventually a naturalised Falkland Islander. The only restrictions I know of particularly aimed at Argentinians was for a period after the 1982 war (about 12 years I think) when Argentinian passport holders were not welcome - for obvious reasons.
@22 Really? You surprise me. And do tell us, exactly, how your pipsqueak little state is going to stop a Chilean civil airliner if it doesn't enter argie airspace? Of course, it might no longer stop at an argie airport. Wouldn't that be a shame for the relatives of your war dead?

@32 Sorry, dimwit. There's nothing colonial about the Falkland Islands. But then, you're short on comprehension aren't you?
@35 You need to look at a map. And remember that aircraft can go around things. See if you can imagine this. Aircraft takes off from Punta Arenas and flies south for 100 miles. Then it turns left and flies 200 miles east. Then it turns left again and flies to the Falkland Islands. Somewhere along the way, it exchanges its Chilean Air Force F-16 escort for an RAF Typhoon escort. Like it?
@44 Who's refused to accept flights from BA to the Islands? Wasn't aware that argieland has ever made the proper application to the Falkland Islands Government.
@75 Who stole what from whom? Oh, I get it. The British stole the Falkland Islands from God! Fortunately, God doesn't seem to mind.
@86 You're quite right! No GPS in 1883. Fortunately, British seamen had other aids. The stars. The sun. The compass. Landmarks. Charts. Oh, and the fact that they had been going there since 1690! Do you think that, as they sailed along, the fact that all the land was on the right, not on the left, might have given them a clue? I bet you've got GPS. Have you got the route back to your loony bin programmed in? Or do you have to wait for the nurse to come and get you?

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 01:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There are many, many Falkland Islanders with Argentine ancestry. Argentines have been able to settle here freely for almost all of Falkland Islands history, and many did.
You can come here yourself; all you have to do is get a job. Nobody is allowed to settle here without the means to support themselves. Does that seem reasonable to you?
I'm not going to deal with your sad deluded fantasy version of your own history again. I will say that it seems quite unbelievable that your ancestors gained their independence from Spain, and yet you seem to think you have the right to deny us the same opportunity. Because we will, one day, move towards independence, almost certainly.
But you don't want that do you? You want to make it as difficult as possible, and to colonise us if you can.
I don't care how many 'British' people live in Argentina; they chose to go there, and good luck to them. We didn't choose that. You wouldn't go roaming around the UK finding people to take away to Argentina to become happy Argentine citizens, would you. SO why do you think it's OK here?
So if you don't want us to become Argentine citizens, what do you want? What are you planning for all those men, women and children, many of whom have known no other home than the Falkland Islands, perhaps for many generations? What do you have planned for our homes, businesses and livelihoods, families and communities?

Feb 02nd, 2013 - 01:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@91 I can see your point in modern day context.
Juan Peron made the decision to make the Falkland Islands the cause to unite a very divided population of Argentina. He needed a common enemy. Peron took his ideas from Mussolini's brand of fascism. He used the English immigrants as his attack on the bourgeois culture as they had been the most successful and consequently wealthy.
You can see the elements he was bringing together at the start of the assault and alienation of the Falkland Islanders which only really took shape under his rule. In has, of course, mutated over the years.
It is shocking that the Argentine government seeks to portray the Falkland Islanders as having no rights and as less than human.
'Timerman and MALVINAS - Our Constitution in the second paragraph of transitional clause 1 establishes two insurmountable limits to foreign policy in relation to the objective of recovering the Malvinas: 1) act in accordance with international law and 2) respect the way of life of its inhabitants. Feb 02nd, 2013 - 03:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The fact is Argentines are ardent racists who fear anything British, fundamentally because of jealousy. The 'jewish question' in europe was always about jealousy that the jews being forced into jobs that no one else would take, like gold-lending, ultimately made a success of it. This is exactly the same issue here, and leads to the same nationalism, racism and screams for ethnic cleansing.
You see the same thing happening in Spain. They have descended into failure, and ultimately see the Gibraltans as non-existent, refusing to discuss acknowledge that they exist, simply because of their Britishness.
This will all end badly, for them.
Historically the Christian faith forbade money lending (this was a misapplication) so the Jews were 'allowed' (sounds terrible now) to live in small numbers in England for this very purpose. They set up the first banks. Small communities were permitted in London, Norwich and York under the protection of the Crown. They became rich very quickly and jealousy made them unpopular.
Feb 02nd, 2013 - 03:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The jealousy towards the British stems from their success in Argentina. They represented the upper class because of their acquired wealth and we all know fascists pretend hatred of the upper classes whilst aligning themselves with the proletariat. It is, of course, a scam. They replace the upper class and keep the poor in their place.

@105 The issue here is that as with 'the final solution' to the long-standing jewish question , the fascist Argentine elite will also have to live up to their promises and try to eradicate the focus of their jealousy.
Feb 02nd, 2013 - 04:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This happened regularly with the pogroms, the massacres and eventually the widespread genocide in WW2. Argentinians will at some point try to do the same with the Falkland Islanders, because let's face it, they have no other optin and have talked themselves out of the possibility of peaceful co-existence. Their rhetoric is that of pretending they don't exist, and this will eventually be put into practice.
The only thing standing between the Argentines and their dreams of genocide are the British, as the USA will stand by their 'important latin-american markets', ignoring the plight of the islanders.
This will all end badly, for them.

@122 Dany, are you just upset because you turned down UN called for talks on the Falkland Islands with a UN registered administered state included in the talks.
Feb 03rd, 2013 - 07:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I see you ignore UN resolutions now calling for dialogue that you reject.

No usurpation in 1833.
The brits got rid of the UP military (the naval part of Pinedo's force was mostly.....BRITISH sailors), and the rapists and murderers ejected, some of whom were sentenced and executed by firing squad by..... yes the United Provinces government.
So to recap how stupid your usurpation rubbish is, some of the people ejected from Port Louis were tried as criminals and shot by the United Provinces government (ie not by the British Government). And don't forget Pinedo's British sailors who were ejected by, yes, the British.
And just to remind you, the MAJORITY of the settlers who were allowed to stay under British rule in 1833, were NOT British, but South American Gauchos.
And there was NO British military presence until Jan 1834, which gave the UPs a full year to return to the islands if they wished as there was NO ONE to stop them.
