Visiting United States Congressman Thomas E Petri expressed approval of the decision of Falkland Islanders to hold a referendum on the political status and future of the Falklands. Read full article
So I take his comments as meaning America would rather not take sides, but some solid facts about the people who live there (instead of just Argentine propaganda BS) would help the international community form an opinion based on some sort of justice.
The idea of informed world nations and justice does not bode well for Argentina.
“they are currently having a lot of problems; their credit is bad, they are having their assets, if they should fall into other countries jurisdictions, impounded against their debts, so we hope they can figure out how to clean up their act and become a more responsible financial member of the world community.”
Well thats a very clear message to our impoverished Argentine friends. Sort your own country out before trying to illegally steal someone else's country!
As suspected, this is a clear indication that the referendum will allow fence sitting countries the ability to formally take a side. It is very much about people's lives and livelihoods and the result of this referendum will be a devastating blow to Argentinas ambitions.
As for refusing to talk, when apparantly that's all they want to do, I can't see that going down well internationally either!
The Islanders need to keep doing this sort of thing over and over and over again.
The FO isnt best placed to win the Propaganda battle but the Islanders are; so keep doing this and keep showing the world that they DO exist and DO have rights.

So terrified of British capability that you scream militarisation about the continuing, 30 year-old deployment of A single British warship. So terrified of British capability that you scream militarisation about the deployment of 4 aircraft. So terrified of British capability that you scream militarisation about missile test with a 4 mile range. So terrified of British capability that you scream militarisation about the deployment of ONE SAR officer for training. Can't do anything against COWARDLY argieland? If we piss, you'll drown. Anybody want a live argie? As what? Sharkbait? And I want to piss. I want to piss all over argieland. I want to see all the COWARDS drowning. Now that I'm getting older, I piss a lot. It''s all available to be slopped on argieland. What a wonderful idea. British piss being showered all over the hovels of argieland.
Should remind this guy that even Argentines are expecting apologies and explanations of the case concerning the outrage that the Lexington swept Puerto Soledad in 1831 and Americans were olympian the bears.
They also seem to have to explain that the fact that Argentina is having a lot of problemos not a whit to do with the question of the sovereignty of the Falklands. If Argentina were the most poor and backward country in the world but it would verify that the islands are Argentine, then the islands are Argentine.
These descendants of Englishmen are accustomed to fish in troubled waters.
@18 Conqueror
Dear .. Do not hate us for our character, we are a third world country, almost barbaric to problems in adapting to the Western civilization .. But the problem is that here in Latin America we are not alone, we are most like. Then ask yourself, delicate man, you're doing here in the midst of so much delay? Go back to your country developed and vincúlate with people in your class .. Do not pretend that your neighbors have wild your refined taste .. Do not hate us for who we are, if we do not like the Argentines as you just have to do your suitcase and go back to your sophisticated country .. Do not ever expect anything from us because we will not change and do not want to change ..
Xavierv, The USA could destroy Argentina without firing a shot. We will make you come into alignment with the rules and regulations that the rest of the world abides by or turn you into Cuba.
Wait and see.
Argentian ws off the radar until Timmerman boarded our military plane.
When future generations look at RG history they will say this is where it all started to fall apart for The CFK administration and unfortunately the 40MM RGs she is putting into poverty.
It has already started you are just too stupid to see what is happening.
@22 yankeeboy
If USA does not want to trade with us, now is not very important .. I think that 1.3 billion Chinese people have more needs to feed 300 million Yankees fat .. Therefore, the star is decaying USA as its metropolis England ..
USA trade is insignificant to the USA. Your economy is the size of one of our lesser known states or a big city. Although we control a HUGE portion of your GDP and exports. Think, GM FORD MONSANTO just to name a few.
Argentina owe US business a LOT OF MONEY somehwere in the neighborhood of U$65B.
We will collect I assure you.
We will make you pay, just watch we've only just begun the shut down of your economy.
Unfortunately takes awhile to legally do it though and bombing is so out of fashion nowadays.
Take a look at what we are doing to Iran and its oil trade. You'll see your future.
Hmm what would Argentina look like without modified Soy?
@XAVIERV ( What about your minister Timerman selling out his fellow Jews to Iranians?? are you Argentines not ashamed?? do you have no decency?? carry on its one sorry episode after another
You got to laugh at him, what as gifted to the descendants of the British? The Magna Carta.
What was gifted to the descendants of the Spanish? The Inquisition!
It seems no one as a good word to say about The Botox Queen and Argentina
Kirchner's woes
The YPF expropriation was obviously initiated Argentina's president, Christina Fernandez de Kirchner. Her motivation may have been more that inducing increased oil and gas development spending. Indeed, at the time the move was announced, The New York Times observed: In seizing control of YPF, Mrs. Kirchner has adroitly shifted attention away from her country's soaring inflation, capital flight, and her own falling approval ratings...
But despite thrusting YPF into government hands, Kirchner's difficulties continue to escalate. The country's growth rate will do well to top 2% this year, and private forecasters are surreptitiously looking for inflation to top 20%. (Researchers who predict higher rates than the official projection of 9.8% have been fined.) Capital is fleeing so rapidly from the country -- $22 billion in 2011 alone -- that dollar-sniffing dogs have been employed to thwart the process at airports, along with ferry and bus terminals in Buenos Aires.
Further, crime remains an even bigger worry for Argentinians than their wounded economy. However, just last month the two concerns merged when massive demonstrations and looting erupted across the country. The culprits were largely from Kirchner's Peronist Party, and their demands targeted an unlikely combination -- in a teetering economy -- of lower taxes and better salaries for workers.
Even more ignominious for the country's government is that, when Kirchner travels to Asia, the Middle East, and Cuba later this month, her Boeing 757 president's plane will remain parked in favor of a hired private jet. The reason: Unsatisfied international creditors are deemed likely to seize the government's plane to satisfy a portion of the country's sizable bad loans. Dating back to 2001, for instance, Argentina defaulted on nearly $100 billion in debt.
@ 26
I agree with you that the Iranian issue is very delicate I would give a little time to see how this issue evolves, AMIA and DAIA (Jewish Association of Argentina) left the meeting quite in conformity with Timerman.
Excuse us for not having English manners, which means to be decent? Exploiting the colonies, miseries pay for raw materials to become power, as hico England until the Second World War?
@ 27
Lemons are produced mostly in the province of Entre Rios, not in Tucumán is the largest producer of sugarcane in the country. I usually use lemon to eat roast beef (a luxury I can not get on the islands) and accompanied by warm bread (another luxury I could not get on the islands)
@ 28
Absolutely agree .. It's our legacy, you have a much better legacy .. But ask yourself, who makes a fine person like you, in the middle of this jungle called Latin America??
@ 29
We do not live in the opinions of hackers exploiting countries with roots.
@XAVIERV may I refer you to 29 thats how the world see you, a country not to be trusted a corupt governmant though Argentines have only ever elected corupt govermants since The Great British helped you get rid of your military junta every President you have elected Argentines eventually describe them as being dishonest and not working for the people why is that?? why do you people keep making the same mistakes????
He also sits as current member and former Chairman of the House British-American Parliamentary Group, an official organisation formed to strengthen relations with the British Parliament.
.
welllity welllity welllity.
add a little vulture fund back-hander and ya got yerself a temporary voice in congress. wonder how much his subscriptions cost.
...but it won't count for much anyway.
@ 31
Because qualify all Argentine governments as dishonest? Just because none followed policies that suit the interests of the islanders? I have never voted to Peronism, but this is a democracy so I accept it. 90% do not agree with the policies of the national government, I am militant opposition politician and I hope to change the reality of my country. But why not feel hate CFK, I have only her political differences. All generalizations are wrong, stating that all Argentine governments were ill, can not be the opinion of a person who has judgment and maturity. Worse, when I read the comments of the forum islanders me laugh a little, because as you all British governments were good, never any prime minister was wrong. All UK measures are correct (not saying the same thing as you, the British people in the forums of newspapers) and everything that makes Argentina's wrong .. When I read that, I only see people without equanimity or criterion to discern things ..
@XAVIERV My dear friend I mean EVERY PRESIDENT you have elected since 1983 Argentines have eventually described them as being corupt and dishonest Just like Nazi Nestor Kirchner and now his wife The Botox Queen Crssy Kirchner,Kirchners policy is MY WAY OR NO WAY do you not agree?? Also you describe The good people of The Falkland Islands as implanted immigrants well thats exactly what Argentines are European immigrants you are no better than they are it's unfortunate for Argentines that The Falkland Islanders have a much more honest open civilised way of life that makes you people green with envy, what you must understand while the people of The Islands say NO to you then nothing will change
Never knew one to do everything right, also never knew one to multiply their income x10 when in office, afterwards yes. Book deals, speaking tours etc, but never whilst holding office. If money started disappearing here the way it does in your country, questions would deffinately be asked!!!! heads would roll and governments fall.
''roast beef (a luxury I can not get on the islands) and accompanied by warm bread (another luxury I could not get on the islands)''....
...Are you actually insane or has this gained something in translation? Are you talking about these islands? What do you imagine we eat? Penguins?
I'll grant you the lemon might sometimes pose a bit more of a problem.
@Monty69 I get the feeling that Roast Beef and warm bread may be a luxury to most Argentines being 25% of the population survive on less than $7 per day
Tree-bark soup and a slice of shoe is a luxury to argentines. After dining on such exploits they gather around their government-bought telescreen to shout at it about the Malvinas or watch a show about genocide.
@ 36
Read all my reviews, I agree that you are a people more civilized than mine. But you can not go into the jungle and pretend that wild animals (That we Argentines) follow your rules .. Just an option, return to civilization before you are devoured by animals ..
@ 43
Excellent .. Congratulate .. I love having high income .. It's just a shame not to have to spend that much money .. And after March 11 will be even harder to do when you no longer have contact with Americas air ..
He added “so I think this (the referendum) is an effort to tap into that sentiment and make it very clear that this is something that involves a lot of human beings rather than just a piece of territory, and human beings that have invested their life sometimes for seven or eight generations now, developing a style of life and businesses and family that need to be taken into account.”
Now that is exactly the correct approach as the Senator stated. Argentina can shout, scream and posture all it likes, once this Referedum is over, the will of the People will be decided once and for all. Any more lies, half truths, old broken agreements (by Argentina), half cocked one sided meetings full of bias and any other twaddle will be meaningless. Too much has been done, lives lost in the war also started by Agentina, too many generations of people born and settled on the islands for anything else. Argentina, for Gods sake, let it go, get on with looking inwards and caring for your own people and start rebuilding your broken bridges all over the world and most of all with THE FALKLAND ISLANDS.
Yous so right, until they start to realise that people do matter, they are going to get nowhere and get there pretty fast. Stand by for some crass comment about there only being 3000 of them and they are only colonists!
Your country as behaved in the most childish undiplomatic fashion recently your President has PROSTITUTED herself around the world lieing and begging for suppport of her dead husbands dream an example on a visit to Angola she thanks the Angolan people for there support, can you think for one minute The Angolan people have any idea where The Falkland Islands are? this is the kind of rubbish Kirchner talks, believe me the world is getting sick of listening to the same old stuff from your beloved Crissy,if I was Argentinian I would be embarrassed look around you and ask would I rather my leader puts right whats happening here in Argentina or carrys on this road to ruin for something she never had and something she will never get-Argentina you are wasting your time end of.
I really do not know why l bite so much when I read some of these stories. I mean it's not as if they are ever going to gain sovereignty over the islands and just like the junta, they are using them as a very convenient distraction for their ineptness in government.
I SUPPOSE I JUST DO NOT LIKE THEM TAKING THE PISS!
Who supported WHAT !! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ? This guy is out of sight . We are here concerned about real staff not about little princes driving for fun expensive equipment payed by his servants, and old ladies Queens. This is a REAL COUNTRY THAT QUICKED YOU OUT ! or, YOU DO NOT REMEMBER THIS NEITHER ?
@ briton the nigger
Why don't you call your UK PM David Ca-Moron to stop the diplomatic relations with Argentina?
This is the best solution!
If you don't do it is because you don't have nothing else to do OLD bloody rubbish briton!
Julia, wow! Wow now there's a real warrior, where were you in 82 love? Just imagine what could have happened had there been one of her there with a real set of balls. Sod their marines, they should have sent their women!!!!!
@63 Real Idiot
But YOU permitted the argies to invade the islands with the purpose to kill many islanders and british armed forces!
The UK knew about the invasion and did not do anything else rather than than permit the argies to kill the brits! Think about the dead brits, loser!
@briton The Clinton remarks were in 2010 when Brown was PM he was none to pleased and told Clinton thank you but no thank you,now this all goes to show it's LIP SERVICE and nothing more yet SS KIRCHNER thinks she is securing polical points by these silly press conferences..LOL was only last year Kirchner was thanking the people of ANGOLA for there support-do you think Angolans have ever heard of The Falkland Islands?? WHAT A JOKE THESE PEOPLE ARE
Finally did something good Timerman ('ve always been a good for nothing). This time, given in the key and fell into the trap that you tended. Because accepting the presence of the illegal entity and would give implicit recognition to their colonial government .. Sorry islanders, the next will be .. But today, to mourn the cross more .. ja
@64 Jules
That's right at odds of 10/1 and who got killed, some ferkin special forces officer who thought he could walk through the back door of government house and be a hero by arresting the governor. Well some booty the other side of the door put paid to that! what a twat and they gave the dickhead a medal!!!!
@71, it's not odd, it's no different than the US stance on the ROC. State has to play it vague. Congressmen however have the liberty to stand on the right side of the issue. Now if this one will just follow through to the correct House committees (of which he is not a member) unlike the last fellow.
Can someone please tell to this idiot that he is far a way from Mexico?
What about to sponsor a referendum in California and Texas so people can express they will to become part of Mexico?
Florida that would be a good one too may be they want to become part of Latam.
Another idiot politician good for nothing looking for photo opportunity.
How can someone can talk about freedom and democracy when he was screwed in his congress seat for 17 years so far?
It is a joke?
Can someone explain me that?
Tom what about to pay your income taxes in US before lecturing others?
How do you’ve got so rich?
“House disclosure records show that in 2002, 2003 and 2004 Petri reported that he was a partner in Lloyds of London and had assets in the company worth between $250,000 and $500,000 each year. In 2005, he reported having assets of between $500,000 and $1 million in the company. In 2011, he reported assets in the insurance company of between $1 million and $5 million and he still lists himself as a partner.”
Ummm something smelling very rotten here and is not exactly fish....
Well there it is Argentina have been offered talks. But Argentina declines!!!!!!!!
So what was all the shouting about?
If Hague were to go to Argentina then he should just take the Falkland's government representatives with him as Timmerman says they would'nt put any conditions in place. I wonder how long that offer lasts?
58 julia (#) You madam, are a racist no hoper spewing hate and living in an adopted country pretending to be a patriot of the old country when all the time you shame yourself as a pig and yet, you continue to show up here under various alias. You are fooling nobody Sussie you crazy foul bitch!
Sussie has changed User Names many times, but really became unglued 6mos. ago.
Sussie was possibly banned for incessant, violent and graphic references to anal sex, and describing killing Isolde's children.
Sussie is most likely a very twisted, mentally-ill, pederast, a man, not a woman at all, but appears to be living out those fantasies through his invented female personas on this forum.
His reference to you are not the first is disturbing. One really has to question what this person is like in 'real life'.
I would not be surprised if he were a violent pedophile or sexual predator.
@85 Fair one Troy, best ignore in the hope that 'it' will go away when he/she realises that we are taking 0% interest in the ramblings and rants of a crazy fool.
It is very good the support received from the US Congressman Petri on the oncoming referendum. The result of such consultation will be a death blow to the Argentine argument against the Falklanders. Sooner or later the RGs will have to recognize and accept to talk with the islanders. As to the problems that Argentina is having both domestic and foreign as described by the Conressman are all correct. Many Argentines now believe that their country is now a non functional state, since nothing works well there. Less the present government headed by Cris.
@96 Ooops, you've strayed dangerously off message there, matey. Still time to get in a correction before you're spotted and outed as a clandestine Malvinista.
Argentina don't need a shit from the USA or any other country!
The USA is broke!
The USA Postal Service has a $8 billion dollars deficit!
There is no money to pay the military personnel or retirees!
The USA keeps borrowing money from third world countries!
How about the brits?
Same situation: flat broke!
Yes we're broke but we know it. But the Argentine's don't actually realise they're broke because they're fed a daily dose of propaganda.
And with regards to Congressman Petri - he like the rest of the World is slowly waking up to realise that the only people who can determine the fate of the Falkland Islands is the Falkland Islanders. This is why as the referendum approaches CFK and the Tin man are getting desperate.
#99 I just heard this massive loud popping sound......any chance that was you pulling your head out of your asshole? Because you speak with total and complete ignorance......almost like your beloved leader.....assface kirchner when she speaks with a mouthful of shit, you do a serious impression of her.
Just remember........because you type it, does not make it true.........but yet you believe.
BTW......interesting sight seeing that naval warship lying on her side! What a threat......to the environment.
No sooner has Bobby Jindal stated the the GOP needs to stop being the party of stupid than Congressman Petri pulls this stupid stunt. But it is in character. The GOP is disdainful of Hispanics in the US as well.
Maybe Congressman Petri is looking for a new constituency.
The congressman is right about one thing: The US's relationship with the rest of America is very important. With the Pivot to Asia of far less importance is the US's relationship to Europe - something that the UK needs to take note of.

Feb 01st, 2013 - 03:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Kirchner's woes

Feb 01st, 2013 - 05:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Now that is exactly the correct approach as the Senator stated. Argentina can shout, scream and posture all it likes, once this Referedum is over, the will of the People will be decided once and for all.

@101 being aware that you're swimming in slurry is normality, being convinced that you're actually swimming in champagne is lunacy.

Feb 04th, 2013 - 09:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No sooner has Bobby Jindal stated the the GOP needs to stop being the party of stupid than Congressman Petri pulls this stupid stunt. But it is in character. The GOP is disdainful of Hispanics in the US as well.
Feb 05th, 2013 - 01:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Maybe Congressman Petri is looking for a new constituency.
The congressman is right about one thing: The US's relationship with the rest of America is very important. With the Pivot to Asia of far less importance is the US's relationship to Europe - something that the UK needs to take note of.
Trolls - this thread is long over - you have nothing relevant to say, either.

The cost to the UK in money and prestige will be high. And the UK will fail in its efforts and Las Malvinas will revert to Argentina.
