Argentine ambassador in the UK, Alicia Castro described the coming Falkland Islands referendum on March 10/11 as a ‘media ruse’ and insisted that a three-side dialogue on Malvinas sovereignty is ‘unthinkable’ because the issue is bilateral: UK/Argentina. Read full article

Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well she would know about that sort of thing....
Tough. Any negotiation about the ownership of the Islanders' home will include the Islanders. It's that simple.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Britain doesn't have any obligation to change the status quo, if Argentina wants to keep pressing their bullshit claims, they'll have to sit across the table from the residents of the territory they want to annex and give their case face-to-face rather than running to powerless NGOs and third world dictatorships to spout their rubbish far from those big scary FI representatives.
Man up or quit whining, RGs
if the referendum is not legal and will be ignored, why is Argentina so worried :) mmm
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As the leader of the UN said that the U.K Goverment is not in breatch of any of The UN rules, so i'm afriad that their wrong and we are right.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You have to speak to the Falklnders as they live their its their home ( has she not learnt and her goverment not learnt anything in the last 31 years !).
So much damage has been done by CFK and her Goverment, that it will take genarations to be put right. I can't ever see the Falklanders going back to Argentina at all its never ever going to happen,
She is correct, the sovereignty of the islands is a bi-lateral subject between the islanders and the British Government. There should be absolutely no room for the third party.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The third party who's sum total control of the islands amounts to 130 days, half in 1832 punctuated by mutiny, rape and murder and the other half in 1982 punctuated by the deaths of 900 people. There should be absolutely no room for them.
However, I do think that GENUINE 19th century colonialism is unacceptable, so would support tri-lateral dialogue between Argentina and the ethnic Patagonians, the FIG could be a third party overseer to ensure Argentina return the usurped land back to its true owners, the original true South American population....jajajaja
I can't remember any Ambassador to the USA ever causing such a commotion. I wonder if we would send them home?
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0RGs have no dignity,
Argentina says three-side dialogue on Falklands/Malvinas issue is unthinkable
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0To their tiny minds, it is unthinkable....... To everyone else in the world, who has more than two brain cells to rub together, it is common sense..................
Poor, poor dear, tiny minded, hate filled, Ambassador Castro........ Pity her.
P.s Is it me, or does she look like a man in drag?
so you keep saying change the fookin record trolley dolly, starting to panic now, backed into a corner, international opinion going against them, SA countries changing sides, Mr Moon and the UN backing the referendum, more and more countries coming down on the Falklands side, eat shit and fook off rgenweener, your goverment has embarrassed you in front of the WHOLE world and I dare say you won't let us down in the next few weeks. Hire monkeys you get nuts, reep what you sow.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0She added that another issue of concern is the “militarization of the region”, given the massive presence of British forces in the South Atlantic which she said represent a “risk”. Hasn't happened and everyone knows it, less troops there than has been for years, and why are they there ask yourself that question trolly ginger whinger. Your defence secretary stated publicy that if they WEREN'T there rgenweener would have invaded AGAIN. FAIL FAIL. Sussie ten names don't even bother to respond to me cause you know you have NO arguement and this ginger twat proves it. Shame you could have had a big input now you'll have absolutely sweet fook all, because of your beligerance and lets face it STUPIDITY, keep talking the world is listening............................and laughing.

You could compare the buck-teeth to 'Jessica Rabit', exept that charecter was more attractive.....
This makes me really sad. Why does it keep becoming more and more aggressive?
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Maybe the easiest solution would be for the Falklanders to vote to be independent from the UK and then could renegotiate their relationship with the UK - (ie we will give them all the same support as now, if they want it). Maybe that would get the argies of their backs. But I doubt it. The government dont give a shit about the falklanders, much as they dont give a shit about their own indigenous population (http://indigenousnews.org/2012/09/21/un-rapporteur-on-the-rights-of-indigenous-peoples-asks-argentina-to-stop-evicting-indigenous-peoples/). This sort of aggression is completely irrational. what the hell would they do with the islands if they had them?!
Why dont they just go threaten Uruguay instead? it is
1. closer to the Argentine mainland than the falklands (therefore surely more argentine?!)
2. Colonised like the falklands was (only by spanish speakers - why should that make a difference?)
3. smaller than they are.
A perfect alternative victim, no?
Argieland, why don't you take your case to the ICJ? Oh yeah, it's because you have no legitimate claim.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@12
Feb 12th, 2013 - 09:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They do have a legitimate claim....in November 1832, 50 or so members of the United Provinces of River Plate navy (kinda sorta Argentina, but not really) went to the islands, did a bit of mutiny, did a bit of rape, did a bit of murder and then got kicked off two months later by the British.
And in 1982, an Argentine invasion force landed leading to the deaths of 900 people, and again two months later the British kicked them off.
The British have had two peaceful and successful periods of civilian communities lasting over 200 years..
How can you say that the Argentine claim isn't much much stronger???
Urm, reading [1] methinks the lady doth tell lies. It says nothing about no referenda. Fat ginger liar.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0UN Resolution 40/21 (1985)
” The General Assembly,
Having considered the question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and having received the report of the Secretary-General,
Aware of the interest of the international community in the peaceful and definitive settlement by the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of all their differences, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations,
Taking note of the interest repeatedly expressed by both parties in normalising their relations,
Convinced that such purpose would be facilitated by a global negotiation between both Governments that will allow them to rebuild mutual confidence on a solid basis and to resolve the pending problems, including all aspects on the future of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas),
1. Requests the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to initiate negotiations with a view to finding the means to resolve peacefully and definitively the problems pending between both countries, including all aspects on the future of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations;
2. Requests the Secretary-General to continue his renewed mission of good offices in order to assist the parties in complying with the request made in paragraph 1 above, and to take the necessary measures to that end:
3. Requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly at its forty-first session a report on the progress made in the implementation of the present resolution;
4. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its forty-first session the item entitled ”Question of the Falkland Islands
(Malvinas).”

Universal realization of the right of peoples to self-determination
The General Assembly,
Reaffirming the importance, for the effective guarantee and observance of
human rights, of the universal realization of the right of peoples to
self-determination enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and embodied
in the International Covenants on Human Rights, as well as in the Declaration
on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples contained in
General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) of 14 December 1960,
Welcoming the progressive exercise of the right to self-determination by
peoples under colonial, foreign or alien occupation and their emergence into
sovereign statehood and independence,
Deeply concerned about the continuation of acts or threats of foreign
military intervention and occupation that are threatening to suppress, or have
already suppressed, the right to self-determination of an increasing number of
sovereign peoples and nations,

Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Alicia Castro is not really worth worrying about. She recently wrote a letter to the London Daily Telegraph claiming that the Falklands archipelago was an enclave in Argentine territory. Enclave has the same spelling both in English and Spanish and has exactly the same meaning in both languages - a territory completely surrounded by the territory of another nation.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Falkland Islands are, of course, completely surrounded by international waters and are quite distant from the maritime limits of Argentina as defined by international laws of the sea.
Anyone noticed anything odd?
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm still VERY upset that the Argentines have clearly rejected ”the universal realization of the right of peoples to self-determination enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and embodied in the International Covenants on Human Rights, as well as in the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples contained in General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) of 14 December 1960, [1]
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They have clearly NOT welcomed the progressive exercise of the right to self-determination by peoples under colonial, foreign or alien occupation and their emergence into sovereign statehood and independence [1]
Additionally they actively partake in the continuation of acts or threats of foreign military intervention and occupation that are threatening to suppress, or have already suppressed, the right to self-determination of an increasing number of sovereign peoples and nations” [1]
It seems that they are completely ignoring the Charter and the General Assembly. Maybe the Fat Ginger can explain why?
[1] UN Resolution 40/3o (1985)
The last paragraph of this report states ”More specifically it refers to the exploration and exploitation of renewable and non renewable resources in which the UK is involved in the area and do not contribute to reaching a definitive solution to the territorial dispute”.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0THE UK IS NOT, REPEAT NOT, INVOLVED IN EXPLORATION AND EXPLOITATION IN THE AREA OF THE FALKLANDS/MALVINAS. This statement is entirely false.
The exploration and exploitation in being undertaken by PRIVATE companies under licenses issued by the Government of the Falkland Islands. The UK has nothing to do with it.
I don't see ANY Trolls defending this statement - it cannot be intellectually supported.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think we have refuted everything possible on this thread.
Let's save our energy for the next shot in the dark.
Please end this thread, Mercopress.
@23 The whole thing is just utter lies.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The resolution she's referring to, she has clearly not read. The resolutions surrounding the one she referred to clearly show the Argentines and most of South America to be completely ignoring the fundamentals of the UN Charter, and actively working against General Assembly resolutions.
Curiously there is a part within Resolution 40/30 that Requests the Commission on Human Rights to continue to give special attention to the violation of human rights, especially the right to self-determination, resulting from foreign military intervention, aggression or occupation;
So why don't the Falkland islanders get the Commission on Human Rights to come in and jolly well have a look at the Argentine aggression. I'm pretty sure the commission will be like the C24 and loaded with backward countries that like shooting their journalists (Ecuador, Bolivia, etc.)
The 'Malvinas' claim is delusion on a very grand scale.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The people of the Falkland Islands have lived there longer than the transplanted population that is Argentina. And what is worse Argentina slaughtered and murdered the indigenous population and they dare to suggest the islands belong to them? They have been so indoctrinated with their own bullshit they are completely unable to see the truth and facts.
And as Ban Ki Moon said, the UK and the people of the Falkland Island's have breached no UN resolutions, in fact the only country that has is Argentina with its illegal invasion!
And if that isn't enough Ban Ki Moon said the people (the Falklands people) should determine their own future.
So no matter how many things Castro, Tinman and CFK say the truth is still very clear to anyone with half a brain.
I just read up on the Commission on Human Rights (now the Human Rights Council) and apparently it contains the likes of Russia, China, Syria, Sri Lanka and Ecuador. It apparently has one purpose which is to pass resolutions about Israel and nothing more. I doubt the Falkland Islanders would get any support by taking their story there either.
Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The UN seems purposeless and utterly furked.

Feb 12th, 2013 - 10:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So the British will vote to continue being British? Obviously she has never heard that the Spanish used to live on the River Plate around the 1800s.
British forces in the South Atlantic is a risk? I would say having a Royal Navy icebreaker down there actually reduces risk, as does having more troops on the Falklands: because we all know how many people ended up dying after there were barely no troops there. On the other hand I would say having to serve in the Argentine navy is incredibly risky.
Whining about self-determination not being recognised in the UN? The secretary-general does not seem to agree, or that the UK is breaching any resolutions.
Admitting Falklanders are British but then not being willing to talk to these British politicians because they are Falklanders.
Expecting the Falklanders to stagnate and not use the resources in their territory, even though Argentina has made no effort to legally stop them. And even claiming the UK are taking unilateral actions, while at the same time claiming talks cannot be trilateral (it never ceases to amaze me just how thick these people are: they do not realise their use of unilateral and trilateral actually conflict with each other when taking an overview of Argentina's dispute).

Alicia Castro is not really worth worrying about. She recently wrote a letter to the London Daily Telegraph claiming that the Falklands archipelago was an “enclave” in Argentine territory. “Enclave” has the same spelling both in English and Spanish and has exactly the same meaning in both languages - a territory completely surrounded by the territory of another nation.
Under the Palmas decision, three important rules for resolving island territorial disputes were decided:
Firstly, title based on contiguity has no standing in international law.
The Falklands/Malvinas Case Breaking the Deadlock in the Anglo-Argentine...
By Roberto C. Laver
p.74
International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the North Sea continental shelf cases, in which Denmark and the Netherlands based their claim inter alia on the doctrine of proximity, i.e., that the part of the continental shelf closest to the part of the state in question falls automatically under that state's jurisdiction. In these cases the ICJ rejected any contiguity type of approach. As for continuity, it is argued, the 1958 Geneva Convention on the Continental Shelf and Contiguous Zone, Article 1, now contained in the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention, Article 76, does not support the view that coastal states have sovereignty over islands above the continental shelf. On the contary it laid down doctrine that islands had their own continental shelves,
You are utterly wrong Mrs. Castro.

Why anyone intelligent person can read any UN Resolution on the Falkland Islands and construe it as excluding them from self-determination.
The referendum will not change everything but it will definitely be used to show the hypocrisy shown by many members of the C24.
Which means that the Islands really are starting to win the propoganda war because they are actually evolving their strategy whereas Argentina's never changes.

But you only have yourselves to blame. You allow this thieving government to get away with it constantly, and you'll believe anything they say, as long as the wave the big 'Malvinas' Myth in front of your eyes.

If there is one national characteristic of the British its our willingness to dig deep and resist anything. The British have fought in many wars with vastly overwhelming odds in favor of the enemy and yet we never gave up and we always win.
However when other countries are friendly and honorable we've given ground plenty of times and given up our position.
So with that in mind, I can't believe the government of Argentina doesn't understand our psyche.
If that is the case then this is as we believe nothing more than another publicity stunt to distract attention away from the many problems they are having at home!

Feb 13th, 2013 - 08:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0Thanks for the excellent clarin article. Vicente Palermo has the balls to tell it like it is. No wonder they want to close them down.
This is such a waste of time. They seem to forget that the people living are humans with rights, dialogue has to include the people who would be affected by any change. This is just logical.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 08:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0The Argies on here are like turtles on ice, paddling furiously but getting nowhere.
@71 It's quite true. The argentinians only really have two levers: one being 'ignorance' given that most people have not actually read the resolutions such that they are able to see that their representatives are unabashed liars; and the second is in ignoring the islanders even exist by slipping into the anachronism that is the repetitive call for 1970s-based negotiations.
Feb 13th, 2013 - 09:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0There is no request for a judgement from the ICJ, there is no acceptance of the 'true' resolutions of the UN based on the 'truthful' wording, and there is no acceptance of the judgement of the head of the UN with regards to who is following the resolutions or not.
It is basically piss-poor diplomacy, however if you look at the way their jewish community has just been sold down the river, you can see precisely why no one would ever want to be annexed as part of that country.
Windy Scared Argentine Government - Scared and Panicking over the concepts of Freedom and Human Rights!
Feb 13th, 2013 - 09:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0They have been quoting these resolutions for years, I look them up and I think to myself, am I reading the same thing they are. Is there something being lost here in tranlation. Then of course, you realise that these things are produced and disseminated in the members own languages. Is it a simple thing like lack of comprehension, perhaps the language it veiled in polispeak and to complicated for them to understand?
Feb 13th, 2013 - 09:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0But no. What happens next? The SGUN in person states that the UK are not breaching any of the resolutions, that the Right to Self Determination does exist for all peoples. It's not what they want to hear, they ignore it, marginalise his position.
They probably do not know what a pantomime is, but they are turning the UN into one. They seem to think the longer and harder they shout to the contrary, it makes something morph into the result they desire. There is no sense in it.
Why would you want to negotiate with someone who behaves like this? More to the point, why should you?
As the Argentines used to have numerous agreements with the FIG how has it suddenly become unthinkable to have dialogue with them today?

To hold dialogue with the islands is to acknowledege they exist. To acknowledge they exist is to say they have rights. To say they have rights allows them to decide for themselves.
If the islanders decide their own future, they know they do not appear anywhere it in it.
Whatever they do, they can never, ever, enter into dialogue with the islanders, it makes their position untenable and they know it.
So they will continue to say this is a bilateral issue between them and the UK, they can do nothing else.
It's a lose, lose situation for them.
Chalk up another diplomatic victory for the UK.
Feb 13th, 2013 - 10:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0The UK is ridiculously good in this are and Argentina is woefully bad with their lies, deceit and errant behavior. If Argentina could stop with the allegations, lies and wild statements which everyone can prove are lies because they contradict the UN charter and what Ban Ki Moon has recently said then they would have a whole lot more respect.
I think that Nos the Turd (who promoted him to 10th?) writings on UK, Arg & Islander's relationships going forward, probably make most sense. In the foreseeable future there will be no reasonable relationship between us. Only a deteriorating one. If a war didn't end the matter, for the time being, nothing will. The UN and the whole world could come out in favour of the Islanders and nothing would change in the Arg mindset. It is futile. As Nos says, all political ties should be broken off. The Islanders should do everything in their power to rapidly increase their population (anglophiles only). The forthcoming increase in their wealth should help such a cause and then become totally independent. Better for all to have absolutely no relationship with Argentina than the one, so soured, that we have now. The UK should continue to promote good relationships with the rest of SA. With new missions and so on around the continent as we are currently doing.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 11:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0Agree with most of what you say. More people means more land, trouble is you still have thousands of mines still in the Islands , which Argentina should remove. My feelings are that once the REFERENDUM is out of the way ,the FALKLANDERS ought to take a case to the UN and ask them to tell Argentina to remove said items. Perhaps they ( Argentina ) would remove them as a goodwill gesture to the FALKLANDERS.

Regarding Iran's approach, I totally disagree, but I share the policy towards the islands. And better yet, I fully share the position to cut relations with you. I was the first to raise it in this forum, Argentina should have no link with the invaders, not be allowed to use its airspace and seas that address the islands. Zero contact with you! If someone wants to visit you navigate international waters and come out of there the same way, same with air contact. That is no contact with the Americas. This was my position has always disallow using our jurisdiction to address the islands. The families of those killed in combat and have cried enough on the islands, it's time to repatriate their bodies and then leave you to relations with Africa if they wish .

Feb 13th, 2013 - 12:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You appear to be foaming at the mouth. You should go and calm down.
Actually, the British and the Falkland Islanders have offered on numerous occasions to repatriate you war dead, but successive Argentine governments have refused because they believe that their presence on the Islands somehow increases your sovereignty claims.
Also the families of the war dead don't want them repatriated. Why? Because they know that the Falkland Islanders look after their sons far better than the Argentine government would, who only ever use them to try and score cheap political points.
But if you truly want the war dead repatriated then I suggest you petition your government to do it. Your government will then have to send a request to the Falkland Islands Government for permission. The Falkland Islands Government will, no doubt, agree, and then all of the Argentine bodies (many of which have no names because the Argentine officers REFUSED to identify them, and very few of them had identity tags) can be returned to Argentina for reburial.
As for the rest of South America, most of them are quite happy to do business with the UK AND the Falklands. The trade between us is in the billions of dollars. I'm sure that other South American countries are going to throw all that away because Argentina says so. Er...no they're not. They see the economic disaster that Argentina is, and are thankful that they have decent governments who care more about the people than they do about lining their own pockets with dollars.
Argentina is impotent. No one pays attention to you, they just mouth empty platitudes, then laugh about you behind your backs.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 03:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I do admire the Argentinians, I really do. They are without sin.
They are God's creation.
I do appreciate them as I ply my long spoon (silver); they are bespoke; their dress is unforgettable; the cut and the colours; in our archipelago we call it newlydubbed; this is a very ancient fishing expression meaning a very good catch; this is high praise indeed.
What made you leave your fruitful Mother country I muse; your Mother Country was such a help to mankind indeed. I admire its benign treatment of the Peoples of South America; it was inconvenient I suppose, the unfortunate sexual diseases you lot brought from your slums to decimate the locals.
I do love the RG's; I admire you enormously.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 03:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0THat's now how I view it even if from your end that makes sense for you to think so.
The reason there should be no relations between Argentina and the Falklanders is because there is simply nothing of common interest to discuss.
Sovereignty? I even agree with you there is a non-starter.
So what else is there? Nada. Please don't bring the fishing crap, Argentina doesn't give a hoot about fishing, never has. And we already economically control the vast majority of the continental shelf by EEZ rights, so neither you nor the UK have anything do to in our economic waters.
Simply keep to your waters around the Falklands EEZ, we keep to ours. So there is nothing to discuss.
And then what else? Thought so.
Given that both the UK and Argentina could cut some meat from the budget, and that Argentina has nothing to lose by breaking ties (what do we need in terms of products, diplomacy, or relations with the UK really?), the most sensible thing is to close the embassies. Just have the one in Paris handle the UK mission.

And whether you like it or not transnationals and countries are increasingly going to come for Argentinas resources. Without genuine alliances (forget this shallow -brotherhood of South America- bollocks) and integration with the major players Argentina is going to lose more and more of its soveriegnty. Thats just the way of the world. Either that or get yourself some nukes act unstable, make threats and keep blowing up the desert like North Korea and Iran do. Argentina is just too big a country with too poor a management . It doesnt have the ability to defend itself. I know all about the history of Argentina and the UK's relationship. Peron soured it. Too bad.
Jorrocks - Your postings are the most ridiculous statements I have seen for a very long time. First of all, Argentina IMPORTS bananas from Ecuador and Colombia - it doesn't export them. So it is very unlikely that you have ever eaten a banana from Argentina.

Spain's behaviour in the New World was atrocious, especially in the Caribbean and New Spain but equally the British Empire conquests were not without their atrocities. But these events are/were historical and, believe me, except for the atrocious behaviour of the Argentine government in the matter of the Falklands/Malvinas the majority of the Argentine people are civilised, well mannered, and delightful people.

@150
Feb 13th, 2013 - 04:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In fact that is the talk in South American circles these days... that any country could wage war against Argentina and invade. Since for 150 years (1840s to 1990s), Argentina was the most powerful military in Latin America really, and we have chosen through our government to dilapidate it, the other countries couldn't say that.
But now it is the talk in Chile, Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Colombia, etc...
I would only remind all of them, and even you Brits, of a saying by a fine Argentina general of the Chile-Peru campain:
the mightiest and most deadly weapon at a military man's disposal is to be understimated
Think about that quote and battles and wars throughout history. Wise words.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 05:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It is because your military is sh!t, as your government has kept them starved of resources and new equipment.
Quite frankly the Argentine government is the biggest threat to Argentina. Poorly maintained ships. Old equipment. A demoralised military.
That doesn't make for a good fighting force.
Besides your military is only any good when you outnumber the opposition 1000/1 and they aren't armed.

That doesn't mean to say that with a decent government who funds your military appropriately that will always be the case.
But Argentina doesn't have a decent government, does it? It has a thieving government who are so busy lining their own pockets that they don't actually give a damn about Argentina, it's people or it's defence, whilst all the time waving the 'Malvinas Myth' around as a distraction to the indoctrinated masses.
Even that won't work forever though, will it? Very soon the Argentine people will realise just how badly they've been screwed over by CFK and her cronies, but by then it will be far too late to save Argentina from economic ruin.

@163 - Tobias
Feb 13th, 2013 - 06:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes it's easy to win when your fighting someone weaker and less well armed than yourselves, isn't it?
Let's see.
-War of Brazil - a tie not a win.
-War of the Confederation - a win, but only because of Chile breaking the confederation.
-War of the Triple Alliance - win (really 3 against 1 hardly seems fair).
-Conquest of the Desert - win (against poorly armed and outnumbered natives).
-Conquest of the Chaco Austral - win (another brave win against the natives).
-I found in the list world war 2, but since you didn't actually choose a side until the axis were all but defeated, I won't count it, as you didn't actually do any fighting, so therefore can't take any credit for 'winning it'.
-The Dirty War - do you count this war as a win or a lose, Tobias?
The Falklands War - lose. (Yup your troops were very good at terrorising civilians that they outnumbered by more than 1000/1, but against an actual armed and well trained force, not so good).
The Gulf War - did you actually do any fighting there? Oh you sent a ship, I remember now, but fighting nope, so you can hardly take any credit for 'winning' it.
I didn't mention the war of Indpendence or the numerous civil wars you had because in the first one Argentina didn't exist, and the second one you were fighting yourselves.
So in summary, Argentina is very good at 'winning' wars against poorly armed natives, or when they outnumber the other side. They are very good at stealing the kudos for winning WW2 without actually having done anything.
And you are very good at throwing your fellow citizens out of aircraft.
But fighting against a well disciplined, well armed, well motivated military, then no you are not very good, are you?
Perhaps it is you who should return to school Tobias, don't you think?
Or are you going to throw a tantrum now?

Feb 13th, 2013 - 07:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Brazil war we won, we got what we wanted, to drive Brazil from the Rio de la Plata. And we beat them in battle after battle. Your premise that it was a tie is ridiculous, even the Brazilian historians agree they lost, given they had a far superior navy and a far larger population yet could not hold on to their territory. To suggest it was a tie because Argentina did not annex Brazil is like saying you and the Krauts tied Napoleon because you didn't take over France.
I've always noted how seething your hatred of Argentina is, you do whatever and say whatever to trash all aspects of the country: history, food, culture, economics, you always clumsily do your best to disparage and basically your goal is to claim everything related to Argentina is universally bad. You do realize even the worst nations (and most nations are far worse), have good qualities.
Just admit it, you are a poor man with a huge chip on your shoulder. Thus your predictable reactions here.
And who has the UK defeated since 1700?
Bronze age natives in North America
Bronze age natives in Africa
Stone age hunter-gatherers in scattered ocean islands and Australia
WWII (really USA, Soviet Union, you, and underground French,Polish, Scandinavian forces against Germany... not very impressive really). I don't count Japan since you did squat there.
The rest?
Suez Canal, epic fail
Iraq, embarrasing withdrawal
Afghanistan, humiliation

That was the least important war in our history. Sorry. Independence, Triple Alliance, Brazil war, all were more important.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 07:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The best part about WW2 for you was when Peron was promised the Falklands by his bff Hitler, who subsequently lost (fled to Argentina) just when Argentina decided to join in on the other side. I don't 'hate' anybody, stop projecting your own prejudices onto others.
In Britain we don't deny our past. You deny your past though, don't you Tobias?
The conquest of the desert. Well it was against native Amerindians, but they started it, didn't they? By trying to defend themselves.
Or perhaps they came from Chile, because we all know that those native Amerindians knew that in the future South America was going to be divided up into countries.
In fact, I've heard all your excuses before Tobias, about how it isn't Argentina's fault, it is the fault of (insert name of scapegoat here).
It doesn't wash with anyone.
But when is Argentina going to stop harassing and bullying a small population who want nothing to do with them?
If its about sovereignty then take it to the International Court of Justice. If you won't then you can shut up about it.
But Castro is right. This is a bilateral matter between the UK and the Falkland Islanders.
Argentina butt out where you are not wanted or welcome.

Democracy only for the English (and btw your are the biggest dummies for believing you live in a democracy).
The UK exist by oppressing the nationality of three other societies, it's as simple as that. You Brits, Germans, French and Italians were smarter than the Spanish, you ruthlessly destroyed the Scots language, Irish, and Welsh; Low German, Occitan, and Friulian.
You are a joke and non-democratic. You oppress other countries to this day and refuse to apologize for past crimes.
Deluded Argies CFK ect
Feb 13th, 2013 - 08:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You do talk rubbish sometimes,
Your rhetoric isn’t working,
We both know, and everybody on here knows, this is all about resources , minerals , oil , ect ect , you just want to steal something you have never owned , never administered , its all nothing but anti British hatred,
You deluded Argies don’t give a stuff about the British , or the Falkland islanders , or democracy , or freedom of choice,
All you Argies want is the wealth of the Falklands,
The fact of the matter is for all to see,
As for the islanders, they themselves freely stated they want nothing to do with argentina, and prefer to remain British , full stop,
Soon there will be a referendum, and we will respect the result, as it is there choice, and not argentines,
They have a right to remain British , and the British will defend them,
Now whether Argentina or the rest of South America likes it or not,
There is nothing, but nothing you can do about it,
But let your leaders make a complete fools of themselves, by telling lies after lies ,
You don’t have the Falklands, and you wont get them either,
No matter how much insults and threats you throw out,
One day Argentina [the government] might grow up and respect other people’s rights instead of acting like juvenile bullies.
Just my opinion.
.

Feb 13th, 2013 - 08:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@141 Ever tried using real English? Here's a tip. Don't get in our way.
@143 Too true. What would Britain (homo sapiens) have in common with slugs and bacteria (argies)?
@149 It's easy. What you have and what you are are the same thing. NOTHING. I've flushed better down a public toilet.
@151 Don't you worry. Any SA country that wants to annihilate argieland, we'll be glad to explain how. Which should we go for? Telling them how to stop you shagging each other? Or telling them to encourage you shagging each other? Just the males. Real women wouldn't notice those 5 millimetre erect pricks!
@156 Britain doesn't take chances. Annihilate everything. You still owe for 255 British servicemen killed. I reckon half a million argies for each British serviceman. Aren't you a few argies short?
@157 Piss off, slug.
@163 Sure. If that's what you want to believe. Here's a few thoughts. You've fought indigenous people with stone-age weapons. You've fought other colonists. Then you came up against a real nation. and got squashed. Should we turn you into a puddle?
@171 How nice that you believe your government's propaganda. And what happened when you finally came up against a real nation with real armed forces? Didn't you get creamed? And is that we only sent 10% of our armed forces? Want to try again so we can halve your population? Go read some real history. French. Beat them from 1807 to 1815. Italians are like argies. Cowards. Germans? Twice. Russians? Anytime. Nothing in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America can defeat British forces. With Canada to the north and Britain to the west, the United States would have a problem. Seem to recall we've burned their White House before now. Be sensible. What do you really have besides a big mouth? And we WANT to kill you.
@195 Would you DARE get close enough and visible enough to be in my sights? Look around you. NOTHING is SAFE. YOUR death is close. have a nice day!

The Soviets could wipe you out tonight 100 times over in your little island, you would not be able to touch 99% of their huge territory. Your 4 x 16 x 12 is just crap, and because they are missile tipped, their yield is not as large as even some of the test bombs in film... that was the trade off to make the technology work ballistically.
And using all your precious source of arrogance to take care of at best 1% percent of Argentine territory (would still leave millions out in the small towns and country side intact), would cost you all your alliances, and at worst a retaliation since you would be out of warheads another nation would have no qualms using them. Since you would have no friends from such action anyway, and likely the entire world as an enemy, they could bomb your little island where your population is far more concentrated and take care of far more of you. And said enemy may have thousands of war heads.
Try it... lol

I'm really struggling to see any relevance to anything though. You appear to be offering up as evidence of 'Euro' degeneracy and cruelty to animals the fact that 300,000 years ago some early hominid ancestors of Neanderthals killed and ate big cats.
Is this really what you are saying? You'll have to forgive me if I see this as humour and irony here, because the only other interpretation is that you are quite incredibly thick.
Firstly, most modern day humans don't have any Neanderthal DNA. And if by any chance any of these pre- neanderthals are ancestors of homo- sapiens, then they are your ancestors too.
Meanwhile, a mere 100 years ago, Argentines were still earning money for hunting native South Americans.

Conservation societies in the UK
RSPB - over 1 million members active in world wide conservation of birds.
British Trust for Ornitholgy. Scientific research and surveys.
Wildfowl and Wetland Trust -conserving wetland habitats worldwide. Currently involved along with Russian naturalists, with saving the Spoon Billed Sandpiper in ASIA

I looked up the list of endangered animals in Argentina and it listed quite a few !!
@251 Your comment (if I understand it correctly):
Feb 14th, 2013 - 09:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Firstly, most modern day humans don't have any Neanderthal DNA. And if by any chance any of these pre- neanderthals are ancestors of homo- sapiens, then they are your ancestors too.
According to the forensic anthropologist Prof Svante Paabo (whom I met in the early days of PCR DNA amplification about 25 years ago), Neanderthals died out because they bred with homo sapiens and therefore part of the neanderthal genome is now part of ours.
See http://io9.com/5939148/new-dna-evidence-could-explain-what-happened-to-the-neanderthals

Feb 14th, 2013 - 11:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I thought there was something in the news last year suggesting that about 3% of modern humans have neanderthal DNA, and that Homo sapiens most likely out- competed them.Don't have time to look for it now. Could be mis- remembering.
I don't know the exact figure for DNA sequence homology - it will depend where you are in the World (I think we share about 97% of our DNA with chimpanzees and about 50% with bananas!)
Feb 15th, 2013 - 12:30 am - Link - Report abuse 0I think the last Neanderthals were living in Spain. There are examples of their art (simple beads etc) dating from about 30-40,000 years ago

Feb 15th, 2013 - 01:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0Let's not forget the largest animal protection organisation in the world, the RSPCA, Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals.
Started in 1824, in the UK, it was started and funded by caring citizens and later received State funding.
It's Patron is Queen Elizabeth II
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Society_for_the_Prevention_of_Cruelty_to_Animals
Especially for TTT and the Trolls:
Althought it does receive some funding from the State, it is not an instrument of the reigning Government.
In fact,
”There have been controversies about the politicisation of the RSPCA in relation to badgers[6] and since Gavin Grant (Chief Executive), an activist with the British Liberal Democrats, was appointed as Chief Executive, repeated attempts at prosecution of the Heythrop Hunt,[7] David Cameron's local hunt, have increased the political accusations,[8] which are denied by the RSPCA.[9]”

What a pleasant ”discovery” it was.

Anyhow,…. Back to the Falklands (and Samuel Jönnson) …..:
“…… the whole system of European Empire can be in danger of a new concussion, by a contention for a few spots of earth, which, in the deserts of the ocean, had almost escaped human notice, and which, if they had not happened to make a seamark, had, perhaps, never had a name….
”The advantage of such a settlement, in time of peace, is, I think, not easily to be proved. For what use can it have, but of a station for contraband traders, a nursery of fraud, and a receptacle of theft!”
(Jupppppp….. He is speaking about the Malouines ;-)

But Castro is right. This is a 2 sided dialogue between the UK and the Falkland Islanders.
Perhaps Argentina should take a leaf out of North Korea's book, and BUTT out of things that are of no concern to you.
Go and live your racist life, in your racist Nazi led country, which is currently being destroyed by the very government you support.
When it all finally collapses, Argentina will have got its wish and will truly be on your own.
No international aid. No access to the World Bank or the IMF. No help from the G20.
But that's what you wanted.
And when you realise that what is about to happen will make the default in 2001/2 look like paradise in comparision.
And you did it all to yourselves. No outside help needed.
Well done Argentina. And well done CFK for ensuring that the Falklands will be protected from aggressive Argentinian colonialism for decades, if not centuries to come.
In fact, CFK may go down in history as the person who destroyed the country of Argentina, causing it to cease to exist, without so much as a shot being fired.
Quite an achievement that. You should be so proud of her.
and insisted that a three-side dialogue on Malvinas sovereignty is ‘unthinkable’ because the issue is bilateral:

It is clear the Argentines do not actually want sovereignty of the Falkland Islands as they won't talk to the people born there (a guarantee of NEVER getting them(-or if the Argentines were actually clever), benefiting financially from the resources they seem aggravated they can't get), and they won't invade as the collatoral retalitory damage on military targets in Argentina would never be accepted by the Argentine people.

And, as I said, an outdated caricature of a retired British serviceman.
Nigger in the 1930's might have been unremarkable. I could even see an English person naming their pet dog, Nigger” in the 1950's perhaps, but since that time, in North America and Britain, the word has taken on such a negative connotation, that it would be utterly unacceptable. To do so would be to invite comment and criticism on a daily basis and it would not be viewed as humourous or 'clever'.
Racism is so commonplace still, in SA, it probably didn't occur to you that your caricature needed updating to reflect the changes in the English people and the Britain of today.
BTW, we don't have Gollywogs anymore, either.

Feb 17th, 2013 - 12:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You ask...:
Since when was “Bomber Harris” a racial epithet?
I say...:
Since nearly a century ago in places like Sudan, Somalia, Kurdistan, Iraq (not to mention Germany and Austria....)
It epithomizes Britishnes true face and methods....:
”Wing-Commander Sir Arthur (Butcher) Harris (later Bomber Harris, head of WWII Bomber Command) was happy to emphasise that The Arabs and Kurds now know what real bombing means in casualties and damage. Within forty-five minutes a full-size village can be practically wiped out and a third of its inhabitants killed or injured. It was an easy matter to bomb and machine-gun the tribespeople, because they had no means of defence or retalitation. Iraq and Kurdistan were also useful laboratories for new weapons; devices specifically developed by the Air Ministry for use against tribal villages.”
http://www.againstbombing.org/chemical.htm
Or this pearl from his boss, Sir Winston Churchill:
”I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes. The moral effect should be so good that the loss of life should be reduced to a minimum. It is not necessary to use only the most deadly gasses: gasses can be used which cause great inconvenience and would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected.”

Feb 17th, 2013 - 03:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Groundhog day again, I see.
Your problem is that you are unable to make a better legal case for ownership than the status quo, you've failed militarily, and your diplomatic strategy isn't faring much better.
Meanwhile, in the past, your governments have been so inept that they couldn't even negotiate a solution when elements within the UK actually wanted to give the whole shebang up.
What I find perplexing is why you so much effort goes into nit-pickingthe events of two, three, or even four hundred years ago, and so little into considering the question of what you are doing wrong. I mean, it's not rocket science to figure out that antagonism breeds antagonism, or that antagonism from a weak position is a sure-fire loser.
But that said, I think we can agree that there is a greater game being played here than a disagreement over the rights of 3000 islanders. And in that respect, I find myself seriously wondering if the current diplomatic strategy, with all its apparent clueless undermining of its own stated objectives, isn't a deliberate tactic in that greater game. (although the possibility of just plain stupidity shouldn't be ruled out, of course).

From there they'll then claim that Portugal, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany are all part of Argentinian territorial integrity because some Spanish people invaded these countries in the past.
Can't use that claim to get the UK though, can they? Spanish Armada didn't get through. :D
