Let's see, what is said on a daily:

Argentina most violent country in the world
Argentina millions of people living in the streets
    Argentina never won a war
    Argentina never invented anything
Argentina beef is worst than Europe, US, Brazil
Argentina only country that screwed natives
Argentina everyone lives in constant fear
    Argentina everyone is a thief
    Argentina no sporting achievements

    Shall I go on??

Quite a self-confidence complex by most here, that's what that proves. :)

Grow up and stop being a moron!

Really Tobias this is your life? IGNORE TROLLSs!

By becoming one you have not changed their opinions one iota. You have not changed the world at all.

You compromise your own standards with your immature trolling around looking for a fight.

These people are never going to stop saying these things so why bother. Copying their actions just creates the same feeling in another person.

You are capable of extremely intelligent ideas and comments but you keep letting a teenager's instinct to lash out kick in.

Mercopress concentrates on news in southern Latin America specificially Argentina, Uruguay and the Falkland Islands. Of course it is going to be full of bad news. Don't you think that every single goddamn newspaper in the world has worked out that bad news sells?

None of those things you have listed are true.

    BUT.....

Argentina has huge problems. By pretending they don't exist, you don't make them less or disappear. Argentina continues to elect populist politicians. There is a reason they are called populist. Don't you think I would love to elect someone who had all the answers and then implemented them?

Bloody oath! But I'm not stupid. ALL politicians are venal and selfish and they all lie at some stage.

    Argentina has crime issues
    Argentina has poverty issues
    Argentina has military issues
    Argentina has innovation issues

Poking gleeful fun and schadenfreude because my country caused the extinction of an animal (on another thread) does nothing to help you country or improve its image.

My country IS NOT PERFECT! I will never claim it is because I am not a 17 year old optimist. But countries can do wrong or stray from their potential.

Argentina has done this. Argentina is capable of so many great things. It is naturally a world leader but it fails itself not the world.

    And you fail yourself.

One day I'll get to Mendoza... that's how I see the world! Try it sometime!

It doesn't make sense to demand that supermarkets freeze prices as all that will happen is a snap correction after the freeze stops. This will also be taken into account in negotiations. I don't understand, who are they trying to fool?

@1 Just how fat are you?

@10 I shall be in Mendoza on my next trip. It will be interesting to see how it has changed in the last two years. I liked it the last few times I visited but it is not the utopia of TTT's description. (Though, to be fair, he has never lived anywhere else so can't compare it to anything else). TTT is just a very frustrated young man.

@12 This is already being discussed in the Argentine newspapers. In some ways the price freeze is false in that supermarkets have suspended other offers and loyalty schemes in order to recoup the loses on the fixed price items. They are also only applying it to cheaper brands. There is also rationing on the fixed price items. The government denies it. (Of course).

There is talk of extending the price fixing at the end of the two months. Also, the government denied there is any price fixing, it is just an agreement. The reason they are doing it is to try to fluff the inflation figures and reduce wage claims. Only the thickest of people would be fooled by their tactics.

    Argentina never won a war

    It's average
Argentina only country that screwed native
They are in good company with the US, UK, Australia and many countries
Argentina everyone lives in constant fear
I never seen feaar, but disgust and frustration
    Argentina everyone is a thief
    I never seen that

Now, Argentina has awful inflation due to the simple fact the country is mismanaged. Rgentina is disliked on the world arena because she refuses to play by the rules. If you don't like the rules, don't try to play in our sandbox, it's that simple, yet you always come to our sandbox crying.....blah , blah is picking on me. Get over it and play right.....period. Unload those containers at the port and see the inflation drop.

Silly boy, I never said the USA wouldn't be effected by climate change what I said was we will deal with it. Unlike Argentina where over the last 3 days had an INCH OF RAIN over an hour that shut down highways, collapsed roofs, caused blackouts which led to a protest where people were shooting at each other!
In this supposed 10 yrs you claim to have had good growth CFK spent none of this $ on upgrading sewer systems which are on the edge of collapse in BA where 1/3 of your population lives and most of your production happens. It is very difficult to have a modern society without proper sewage disposal. So think about all the people wading through the flooded streets filled with raw sewage every 3-4 days. It is not going to be long before there is a Cholera( or some other equally nasty water borne disease) outbreak. Not long at all.

    @19 - yankeeboy

Probably Typhoid and Typhus some other very nasty water borne diseases, although Cholera is the main one.

It is interesting to note that in London in 1858, there was a massive Cholera outbreak that caused the death of thousands of people (about 40,000 in less than a week). It was called the 'Great Stink' because of all the untreated and open sewers in London, which at that time was the worlds biggest and most populous city.

In response to this, a man called Joseph Bazalgette designed a new 'closed' sewerage system, that used natural gravity as well as steam operated pumps to treat and dispose of the sewage.

This design was one of the greatest achievements in engineering, and ALL other sewerage systems in the world are modelled on the London sewerage system. Even the one in BA.

Of course, over the years, with technology etc... there have been improvements made, but the basic design remains intact.

From the sounds of it, the Argentine government hasn't maintained this system in an awful long time.

This will pose a huge health risk. Of course, it won't affect CFK and her ilk, but it will affect the poorest people, especially those living in the shanty towns.

Of course, Tobias/TTT/Nostril doesn't care about those people, as it won't affect him directly.

He'll just bury his head in the sand, while Argentina crumbles slowly around him.

    21. They have built a lot of new condo buildings in BA over the last 10 years without doing anything to the sewers to accommodate the new residents. They are having serious problems with back ups in those parts of town, not to mention the HUGE growth in the illegally constructed Slums all over BA. I don't think they tap into the water and sewer at all or at least not as they should be doing to make it sanitary.

@1 $940 is a ridiculous amount for one person. There are a wide variety of ready-to-eat foods, produce, and beverages that can be enjoyed daily for a third of that budget or less. Either you are eating lavishly, or piggishly, or you don't know how to shop.

$1,200 is manageable in a right localities, if you know what you're doing. Please tell me you're not accepting food stamps. A person with a shred of dignity would rather starve to death than accept government handouts. If you need extra cash, doing yard work for a neighbor won't kill you.

    @26 - Tobias

I haven't told you to rise above it all.

You don't have the self-discipline to ignore people, especially those who have little digs at you.

Your problem is that you can't be objective about anything.

In your opinion, Argentine is a second Garden of Eden, where everything is hunky dory, nothing bad has ever happened there, is happening there or will happen there. The problem with that little fantasy of yours is that it isn't true.

And the reason it isn't true, is because it involved human beings. Human beings who are fallible and make mistakes. Hence the say, “to err is human, to forgive devine.”

There is no where on the planet that is perfect. There is no where on the planet that doesn't have problems. Yet you try to tell yourself that Argentina is such a place, and when people point out to you that it isn't, you get upset, and start insulting people.

These people then insult you back, and like a surly teenager, you then accuse people of picking on you.

You have every right to your opinion, just like I have every right to mine. When you resort to making statements that are easily disproved and you start insulting people, expect them to respond in kind.

It's just like when you change your handle on here, or post under multiple addresses, it undermines your credibility.

If you truly believe in what you say, you shouldn't have to be changing your handle every 2 mintues, and you shouldn't have to pretend to be someone else from a different country, especially when you do it to make it look like they support your postiion. That's fraudulent, and people will not take you seriously or believe anything you say.

You don't like people saying bad things about Argentina, yet you are constantly saying bad things about other countries, and various ethnic groups. That makes you a racist.

If you can't stand the heat, Tobias, stay out of the kitchen.

“In your opinion, Argentine is a second Garden of Eden, where everything is hunky dory, nothing bad has ever happened there, is happening there or will happen there. The problem with that little fantasy of yours is that it isn't true.”

And YOU foreigners claim Argentina is the second coming of nazi Dachau mixed with stalinist Siberian Gulag, decked in North Korean style, European criminality, North American police state, and Latin American violence. With African levels of development.

I can stand the heat, that's why I came here a year ago, and you people were insulting us far before that... you honestly think I just “showed up”? I was mulling for months before to join but didn't have either the time nor the energy.

You can't stand the heat, because you can't stand having company in the kitchen. You want this website all for your lonely hearts to trash us. And its not happening anymore so you all throw tantrums.

You people are really diplopia ridden huh? You make the very astute point that Argentina's strategy towards the Falklanders makes them more resolutely and obtinately want to eschew us... But are so blind that you fail to see you are emulous partakers of the very same exact comportment.

You want Argentina's government to change? You have to change the people then. Foreigners like yourselves disparaging us up and down the site, lying about us with premeditated exaggerations, presuming of superiority through bouts of incessant toploftiness... you honestly believe that is going to make us Argentines want to associated with the “international community”?

As Argentina is doing with the Falklanders, the more you act, the more you will reinforce our determination to completely blow you and the demands of the world into the dust corner.

@31 Always dramatic. Calm down a little and you can make your point without seeming to be irrational. People would listen to you rather than dismissing you as hysterical. You have some interesting things to say but you don't need to try to validate your opinions by pretending that everyone in Argentina agrees with you; they don't. Just be confident enough to speak for yourself.

@34 Yes, I read that. I think she is dangerous and her latest move to cosy up to the Iranians may have been the catalyst for the IMF sanctions and everyone writing them off as beyond help. Let them crash. CFKC will have to go. Then try to help Argentina out of the gutter.

    @37 - Tobias/Nostril/TTT

Thank you for proving my point.

Another little racist rant from you.

I truly believe that Argentina could have a great future. I truly believe that Argentina could be the major power in South America, and a major power in the international community.

The only one's stopping this from happening is you (Argentina as a whole). You refuse to acknowledge that you have problems. Or when you can't deny it any longer, you refuse to accept responsibility and accuse others of causing it.

You have played the victim card so long, that the international community just ignores you now.

But it isn't too late to turn it around. Argentina has serious problems, you need to accept that, face them, and come up with a plan on how to turn things around. But serious problems need serious people to tackle them.

Yet the population of Argentina appears to constantly vote in people who don't care about Argentina, except for how much money they can get out of the country.

This current government has ruined Argentina's reputation on the international stage to the point were you are close to being expelled from various international organisations, and are being denied access to funds that could help you.

Argentina has vast amounts of natural resources, that with good governance and management, could pay off ALL Argentina's debts 100%, and still have more than enough to start improving Argentina's infrastructure.

An improved infrastructure would improve the lives of ordinary people. New houses could be built for the homeless. New schools, new hosptials. Subsidies could be given to farmers to help them produce even more food, and Argentina could become the worlds food producer.

Foreign companies could be lured in with tax breaks, which would in turn provide jobs.

It's all within your grasp, yet it doesn't happen due to rampant corruption and incompetence in your governance systems.

Argentina is mired in a tragedy of its own making.

    Two simple questions.“”“”

rising above something is unilateral Nostro - by definition, what others do ignore. On easy answer. :-)

You wont see me slagging off Argentinians as a national body, “hating them all” or any other such vitriol, because being widely traveled and getting long in the tooth I know that these simplistic views are naive and untrue... people are the same wherever you go... so-called “national traits” are convenient labels with little to do with reality and far less to do with accuracy.

Its not just you by any means though: we all see the rabid “UK cant do wrong” responses... or substitute UK for any other country. The reality is that subsequent governments the world over make dumb decisions its hard to blame the nation, of citizens, for.... except for those trumpeting their support in public for the dumb decisions.

You need to learn and accept that, just as many of the Argentine posters on here need to learn the history of the Falklands from the free internet, not from their biased schooling and government propaganda.

Same goes for these figures and the make-believe “official” ones that always follow: find your own, dont just swallow what is handed out to you by your government...its no good being “intelligent” if you dont make use of it and if one is intelligent but cannot make others understand their point of view, then that intelligence. obviously, is called into question.

shouting & screaming wont do it.

As for Nostrils claims that there is no crime in Argentina, here is a blog from some Cycle Tourists riding through his town, Mendoza last month :- http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=1&page_id=312523&v=5H
In Britain or the Falklands it would be unthinkable for anyone touring on a bike to need a police escort. It's all about actually having experience of other countries and other cultures, and he just hasn't been anywhere ever, and just doesn't understand the world at large.

Top marks for the Rg police though, protecting peaceful tourists. I wonder if William Hague would be so lucky if he accepted Tinmans invitation to Argentina. It would be thugs out on the streets burning the Union Jack, i'llbet. I expect to see that on March 13th when the reerendum result is published.

    ElaineB is cool.

@44 and 46 Thank you. Yes, it would appear that travellingscotsman is confusing me with one of 'Sussie's' diatribes. I just read the thread and most of the offensive comments have been deleted but I can guess the content.

It is not THAT similar to my posting name though.

I can't fix the world and I definitely can't fix the trolling that occurs on here. But I would like to think, after reading some if the supportive comments on here, that I'm not wrong in my assessment of Tobias.

Of all the Argentine posters on here he is probably one if the few that I could discuss Argentina with and actually learn something. I think others on here can see that too.

We all throw an insult sometime. We all get hurt when people highlight problems in our countries. I prefer to argue from the strength of facts not emotion.

The funny thing is that Argentina is the natural partner to Europe and the British in Latin America. And could be a natural counterweight to Brazil's larger population and economy.

Unfortunately it is like watching some horror movie where the protagonist is about to open a door to a serial killer. You don't want them to.... you beseech them not to..... but they do and you know the result before it happens.

CFK is not a serial killer but she is not a good president. She is not good for Argentina. She is divisive. She appeals to the worst strains of nationalism. Her economic policies are short term and populist. She is doing more to damage Argentina long term than anyone else.

Is there a better alternative? I don't know! I don't know enough about Argentina to know. But I can't get any Argentinean to tell me.

And don't get me wrong, my prime minister is a pain in the arse. Her voice is so annoying I cringe. As an unmarried far left politician shacked up with her boyfriend in the Lodge (official residence) she is still populist enough to not agree to same-sex marriage.

My country is not perfect but it does better than many. Why? Because Aussies think all politicians are full of shit. We don't trust them and turf them out regularly.

That keeps them on their toes and smooths out the extremists.

The advice is yours to ignore Toby! Just like the trolls-anything can be ignored.

    Also, thank you @ 47

@50 I agree on some points. There are a number of interesting people to discuss issues with on here. Sometimes it is just interesting to see over-reactions.

TTT is like no Argentine I have met there but more a mixture of youthful belligerence and inculcated nationalism. He has moments of calm when he can be good to converse with but all too often he loses his cool and over-eggs his point. Then no one takes him seriously.

A few people have tried to tell him this but he is at that age where he knows everything. (He thinks). As for the baiting, he is pretty good at doing it to get attention. That said, there are far more offensive posters on this site. JMO

Toby's youth does show through, but we all have to learn restraint at some time.

Well it's 6.30 here. Time to get up and go to work unfortunately.

@1 You're eating too much. Stop!
@7 You're shit. Your “government” is shit. Your “economy” is shit.Your “country” is shit. There you go. Not a single lie.
@9 All sounds pretty accurate. What's your problem?
@19 Are you guys still trying to mess with our language? Do please look up the difference between “affect” and “effect”. Please.
@26 We're trying to help you. You seem to have an overwhelming urge to be isolated. We're just digging holes for you to drop into. When you've found one you like, we'll shovel stuff in on top of you. You can't get more “isolated” than that!
@37 Thanks for that. You just proved everything LEPRecon said. Someone tries to help you, guide you, advise you and you spit in their face. How old are you? 12? Months?
@49 I'd have to wonder about “travellingscotsman”. Most people can smell Sussie's posts a mile off. It's always ugly, rude, insulting, racist and vicious to say the least. I have no idea why MercoPress hasn't banned it.

I knew the inflation situation was bad in Argentina (ARGT), but recent acts of desperation from the Argentine government have likely clinched an hyperinflationary collapse. Last week the government passed a two-month price freeze of groceries, and followed that up with an outright ban of advertisements that disclose consumer prices on Friday. These actions are signs of a desperate government trying to cover up its tenuous currency crisis to the general public. However, no real anti-inflationary measures -- such as reducing government spending -- will match these measures. Putting duct tape on the problem will do nothing to solve this.

Argentina has one of the worst track records in terms of both fiscal and monetary policy of all the emerging markets. Since 1950, the country has defaulted five times (1951, 1956 1982, 1989, and 2001) and has four separate years of hyperinflation (1981-82, 1989, and 2001). The actions of the Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's administration are following a similar path with a familiar endgame. Throughout Argentina's history, left-leaning parties often promise social program spending to implicitly buy votes and win elections. When the bills for campaign promises come due, Argentina's tax revenues are not enough to pay for them. The consequences for this is unsustainable deficit spending.

@55 Thank you. I do try not to be rude or offensive. I try. :)

@56 Quite. They repeat the same mistakes over and over, all wrapped up in pretty words so the majority swallow it. The problem is the poor and 'barely getting by' are a majority. They don't feel any association with capitalism; they just don't see that with hard work and the right environment they too could prosper. They feel hopeless and look for anyone offering hope, even if it is false.

The larger the proportion of poor and disenfranchised, the more likely governments like CFKC's retain power. What the voters don't see is that they will always be poor under such regimes, unless they are one of the ruling elite in government.

What is the likelyhood of Kirchner gaining a third term and what is it that makes rulers want to hang on to power for as long as possible at all cost because surely we can not expect any change while the current administration is in power.

Elaine I agree with twith about them not associating with capitalism. But these days capitalism is fast becoming greedism. Even in the USA people are fast becoming fatigued by the levels of greed and that greed begets criminal behavior and the most that happens are fines....Enron, Worldcom, Madoff, Tyco, BoA, Citibank, HSBC.....the list goes on. DOn't get me wrong.....I believe in capitalism, but the think the copncept of the “global ecnomy” has created something new. I think capitalism cannot go on without well balanced regulation.
Andy.....she will not get a third term, no chance at all. Unless they have a windfall in the mid terms and a lot of people I spoke to there felt that kirchner will lose some power this fall.

It really is utterly stupid for INDEC to still have dodgy statistics when even my Kirchner supporting friends say they are seriously wrong. Instead of lying and manipulating facts, why can't the administration govern and do something about inflation before it gets out of hand
