A demonstration by pickets in the Argentine Tierra del Fuego port of Ushuaia protesting the docking of the ‘Star Princess’ cruise which arrived from the Falkland Islands was contained by local security forces and the blaring of ‘God save the Queen’. Read full article

Mar 05th, 2013 - 09:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I remember the jokers here laughing about the decrease of cruise ships docking, mainly in Argentina. It would seem the only ones that thinks a huge amount of cruise ships docking is a sign of welfare and prosperity. This site is a wonder. Keep it coming folks!

Mar 05th, 2013 - 09:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It must have be hilarious to have seen the faces of those Argentine thugs and scumbags when they were blaring out 'God Save the Queen' and were still able to dock and off load the passengers. LOL!

In Argentina there is a new species of the human race developing, a subsection of the mostly intelligent sensible Argentine called the Malvanista. This 'triumph' of Argentine medical technology and selective breeding from CFK's 'Project Frankenstein' originates from the 'skunk work laboratories at the Casa Rosa. However the results aren't hypersonic space planes or steath fighters but primitive beings known as Malvanistas. Outwardly looking they are like any normal reasonable Argentine, but have had most of their brain removed and transplanted to their feet. The new test tube formed Malvanista sub sub sub species have huge feet, the largest known in the human world that extend for 60 cm in length and are 20 cm wide. These feet almost always sport multiple circular scars and heal over reasonably quickly. It is suprising how the retrograde primitive member of the human race Homo Malvanista Riveroii, can shoot itself in it's genetically modified feet and still not die of blood loss. Despite the intense pain it causes these primitive beings, and the inability to read and research basic history, they seem very happy to shoot themselves time and time again quite happily with ever increasing calibres of small arms.
Mar 05th, 2013 - 10:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This new species is often seen at Argentine ports scaring away people that want to spend money to help them and one of their favourite natural habitats is the United Nations where they can be frequently observed spouting the biggest load of drivel you have ever heard with perpetual blood trails issuing behind as they walk.

As many of us have said: AR the present that keeps giving!
Mar 05th, 2013 - 11:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think Pete Bog has it correct - the Malvanistas are genetically modified or are taking super-sized stupidity pills with the stunts they come up with.
Once again Argentina breaking international law of the sea of free passage,
Mar 06th, 2013 - 12:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0It’s about time this joke was put to bed, and Argentina should be taken to court,
And the UK should now ask for sanctions to be placed on Argentina, as a failed state until it learns to grow up.
This is yet another example for the world to see just how argentina acts,
It thinks it is above the law,
Then its about time the law proved to argentina that it is not,
You deserve everything you get.
.
Funniest thing of all is that the Star Princess regularily carries several HUNDREDS of Argentines who pay for the cruise to go to the Falklands to find out and see for themself what it is all about!
Mar 06th, 2013 - 12:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0This time there were less than 100 aboard - as holiday season in Argentina has ended- but 2 weeks ago she had 750 on board - and all enjoyed a day ashore in the Islands!
Welfare buys a lot of stupid.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 12:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0As I said in previous posts. Many Argentinians don't really care about the Falklands at all. We know it's a political stunt that rallies all the nationalist retards, almost without fail. Though, we do mourn for those that died that were too young to see battle, at the hands of incompetent leaders we call the dictatorship. I bet you that half the people there were probably not even Argentine. They are just desperate to keep collecting whatever scraps Cristina can steal for them.

I'm sorry but the UK does not have a right to dock in Argentina's ports. There is no free passage through a port within a sovereign country.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 02:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0And what this vessel did is utterly shameful. Quite frankly pathetic and a sign of weakness. To compare some protesters (who have that right to protest in their own country), with a foreign vessel who of a major international corporation which should act with far more proffessionalism, and who is PRIVILEDGED to use the port facilities at Ushuaia (it is not a right), is ridiculous.
There should be MAJOR repercutions of this incident.
I too think there should be major repercutions.... I mean repercussions!
Mar 06th, 2013 - 04:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0The first one should be that the Argentine government enforces its own laws. Hindering private vessels legally entering Argentine ports is surely against the law.
Second, the central and provincial governments should help these poor people find meaningful employment. It's great for self esteem.
Third, all vessels entering Argentine ports should play their national anthems full blast.
Fourth, Chile should really be using this as a honing example to attract new or increased business.
@42
Mar 06th, 2013 - 04:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0Third, all vessels entering Argentine ports should play their national anthems full blast.
And you really want to be taken seriously?
You in the rest of the world have a severe paucity of self-esteem if you feel the need to play your anthem docking in Argentina. It's actually pretty sad that's all you people have left.
@41 why not send a note to Carnival management with your concerns..... but then thay have probably already decided to drop Ushuaia in favour of Punta Arenas .

I was thinking about sending a letter, but lets face it... in your countries citizens have no real power, you are helpless pawns of groups like Carnival, who are the real citizens that decide and run your nations in Europe and North America.
@45 Tobias
Mar 06th, 2013 - 05:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0Always the same with you, isn't it? We don't need tourists and the money they bring. We don't need US dollars. We don't need trade. We don't need friends. We don't need anyone! WAH, WAH, WAH!
People like you, Tobias, are the epitome of what is wrong with Argentina. Too busy blaming everyone else for you failings. Too much pride at admit that everything isn't hunky dory in Argentina. Too much pride to admit that your country is once again teetering on the brink of financial ruin, all because of the insane policies of your government.
But rather than address the problems you just blame someone else. Of course, the Argentine governments favourite trick is to convince the people that only 'if' you could just get your thieving hands on the Mythical Malvinas that all of your problems would disappear in a puff of smoke. So therefore you must try ANYTHING to get the Mythical Malvinas, including ignoring human rights, breaking international law, and the most bizarre - cutting off your own nose to spite your face. These constant 'rallies' against the Falklands shows Argentina up as an unstable and untrustworthy country, that no one takes seriously,
You may not care whether Argentina gets any tourists, but all those Argentines whose living depends on those tourists do.
But like many trolls on here, you get 'paid' by La Campora. You don't actually give a damn about Argentina or her people.

Oh LEPRecon he totally accepts British sovereignty for the Islands; which makes his trolling all the more pathetic.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 07:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0In his skewed North Korean view of the world, Argentina would pretty much close the borders to foreign visitors and investment. Though let's face it, his juvenile musings fail to take into account the consequences. For not only will the citizens be happy and proud of their independence and solitude, he'll probably turn a blind eye to the traitors that are shot trying to leave the glorious and rich motherland.
The brain drain that Venezuela has undergone as part of their glorious leader's autarky is tragic.

Mar 06th, 2013 - 07:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0A law named after a murderous thug, too right. Let's bring in a few british laws:
The Fred West Law for cowboy builders, the Myra Hindley Law for child abuse and the Jack the Ripper Law for the reform of prostitutes. What a bunch of jokers running argentina.
Riveiro and Co, were just reacting to the crap situation they were in on the Falklands at the time, they had been getting paid in silver by the RN for their troubles, but when Vernet's guys insisted (by Vernet's wish) on paying them in 'paper tokens' which could only be used to purchase stuff from Vernet's shop........Well, I guess they got a bit upset.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 08:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0No excuse for what they did though, pre-medatated murder. They killed:
Captain Brisbane, Juan Simón (foreman of the gauchos), Dickson, Antonio Vehingar and Ventura Pasos (Pasos was Argentinian!)
Plenty of hard evidence to verify the above, - Absoulutely sweet Foxrot Alpha to verify argentinas myth that he lead some kind of revolt against 'The British and their flag'.
Not a shread of evidence. (chortle)
@41 - ah, finally you are following the inept party line TTT. Timermans policy is to insult, provoke, rant at, harangue the FI and the UK on a daily basis, including blatant, blatant lies, misquotes and completely and utterly made up stuff; if any response is shown it's a major incident, sign of weakness, huge deal blah, blah, blah.

lol, I love when Argentina tries to annoy/scare away people with money. They sure are some geniuses.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 08:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Personally, I hold people that stick to their principles way higher than those who act depending on the amount of cash in front of them, like prostitutes without the need.

Mar 06th, 2013 - 09:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0Read again, they went home with their bellies full of lamb and wine, quite a lot better than the horse meat served in other parts of the world at the moment. Regarding Chavez, what you fail to understand is that we ARE Chavez, all of us, regardless of nationality. About the loans and handouts, I've never witnessed one that didn't contribute to even more downfall.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 09:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0Finally, the cruise ships, the only ones interested in them docking in SA, are the tourists, and mentioned prostitutes. Land is so beautiful, it's difficult to stop them, but it's a win-win really. When they show, the people spits their way, eating lamb, drinking wine. All while the tourists sing God save the queen in awe. Priceless!
Toby and Stevie's attitudes show the typical arrogance and stupidity of Argentinians.
Mar 06th, 2013 - 09:48 am - Link - Report abuse 0It is why the country and it's people will never succeed.

Mar 06th, 2013 - 10:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Let's face it, the quality of the signs and the promotional tent serving chilled wine - got to be organised by central government as a way to make the local government loose face and go back to enforcing their silly law. Epic response by the ship. Must have wound up the protestors sumat rotten (hense there ACTUALLY being a police force there).

Mar 06th, 2013 - 11:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0That's right. Argentina historians know he's a murderer and no hero. Not a revolutionary, not an independence fighter, not a figher for greater rights; just a low down scum bag .. and his actions caused the breakdown of the early falklands settlement letting chaos reign... causing Britain to re-establish its authority... and we've looked after the place ever since. Job done.

I think that the Star Princess missed a perfect opportunity to turn its deck hoses on the arsonists. Properly displaying its attitude to terrorists!
@43 Surely you don't want the RAF flying overhead launching their missiles whilst the RN surfaces and launches theirs, do you? Will you be paying?
@45 Oh that's good, really good. Have you actually managed to figure out yet your role in a territory ruled by decree? You don't even dare use your real name! I can't use mine because, as this article demonstrates, latam is full of vicious terrorists.

In short, the British here are defending the suppression of freedom of speech. Which might as be as well, because that song played is a symbol of oppression and the stifle of democracy. By them playing the anthem, it clearly indicated their disdain to freedom of speech and free assembly.
Once again, these anglews on the left side of history.

Toby, What Argentinians call freedom of Speech is what people in civilized society call anarchy.

@73 What a fatuous pillock you are. Your incompetent terrorists impede your own population from making money. That''s clever? A British vessel played a British melody and song about which your terrorists could do nothing. Perhaps you don't recognise an anthem. Given that your national tune sounds like a recording of dying hyenas in pain. Do you like hanging on to chutzpah? Over here, 8,000 miles way, we are laughing ourselves silly. Keep it up. Show the world what wankers you are. In the meantime, your actions have no effect. The 30 countries you have forced to support you have no effect. Here's a thought, are you going to replace British aid with your aid? Ready to watch your supporters change their minds as British money is withdrawn?

None of you have the guts to say it, but it was provocative and also a sign that the British nation (represented by this vessel) opposes freedom of speech and democracy. Everyone in Ushuaia now knows it, as does everyone in Argentina. The UK always stood for dictators in the Middle East, but only those who follow world events knew. Now everyone knows where they UK stands in human rights, democracy.
@85
He is the one calling us names for not denouncing the burning of some old tires... I guess tires are more important to Americans than children. Makes sense, since cars in that country are essential to survive. Too bad more and more americans can't even afford them anylonger.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-12-15/28-shot-dead-in-us-school-shooting/4429384
In case you don't here are a few quotes:
When we were travelling up here and we were leaving Washington's main airport, President Obama came on the television screens and there was absolute silence.
If you can imagine these departure lounges with hundreds and thousands of people, everyone just standing and listening. I saw some people shedding tears. I don't think it has actually sunk in entirely yet the enormity of this horror just how absolutely awful it is.” (North America correspondent Lisa Millar)
I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about today's horrific shooting. My thoughts are with the injured and those who have lost loved ones. It is heartbreaking to think of those who have had their children robbed from them at such a young age, when they had so much life ahead of them, British prime minister David Cameron said.
This news... horrified me and I wish to express my deep shock and consternation, French president Francois Hollande said.
There has to be an end to this kind of senseless killing, and as I say, it strikes at the foundations of their society, the fundamental fears that parents have for their children. Children and teachers should be able to be at a school, a safe and secure environment, so they can undertake that joy of learning. (Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop)
To say that Americans think their cars are more important than their kids is a disgusting comment and you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking such a thing.
Good honest family fun.

Mar 06th, 2013 - 03:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This same mercopress article, hardly an unbiased source in this dispute, says that on this occasion there was no blocking of the port at all.
Thus, the only logical conclusion is that the anthem was played as an expression of opposition to peaceful protest and dissent.
Once again, quite fitting for that song, which when played all over Africa and Asia people associate exactly with that: tyranny, opression, subjugation, and murder.

Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
God save us all
Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour
Long may she reign
May she defend our laws
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen
Not in this land alone
But be God's mercies known
From shore to shore
Lord make the nations see
That men should brothers be
And form one family
The wide world over
From every latent foe
From the assassins blow
God save the Queen
O'er her thine arm extend
For Britain's sake defend
Our mother, prince, and friend
God save the Queen!
#96 Not in any of the ten African countries I lived in. How many have you lived in... Answer none! Moron. Toby you ought to see a shrink as soon as possible. Britain has a lot of friends and brothers in Africa, but not in SA because you are actually Spaniards and remember serial humiliations at the hands of Britain. Mar 07th, 2013 - 01:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0165. It's what's happening in Europe and North America right now... once wealthy, now devolving into peasantry living.
Mar 07th, 2013 - 02:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0FYI peasants in EU UK USA live much better than the middle class Argentinians. Much much better.
You should hope to be one of our peasants.
Do you realize BA Prov teachers are FIGHTING for U$450/mo salary? Are you kidding me? U$15/day! And they're considered the educated middle class it takes almost a year to buy a laptop! You can't even keep clean on U$15 day.
You don't know the meaning of the word peasant

Mar 07th, 2013 - 03:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes they are trying to bully a small nation of people out of their land.
This clearly shows Argentinians do not want tourists spending money in their country. I hope this enable Chile to increase and improve their tourism.
Mar 07th, 2013 - 07:15 am - Link - Report abuse 0Clearly Argentinians do not understand how important money from tourism is. Then again, looking at the state of the Argentine economy, they seriously don't have a clue!

Mar 07th, 2013 - 12:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So the ship playing the UK national anthem is in opposition to freedom of speech?
Tell me, do you think Argentina is a country where freedom of speech is supported? Think carefully now, considering your government is trying to gag Clarin and the judiciary.
But assuming you do think this, then surely, when faced with a demonstration in opposition to your own position, the natural thing to do in a country supporting free speech is to counter it.
The Argentine protestors exercised their rights in a free country using the principle of freedom of speech by demonstrating against the presence of that ship. In the same spirit of freedom of speech, the ship produced a counter demonstration.
I fail to see how playing the national anthem was in any way anything other than a counter protest. To read anything more into it shows the lack of logical, or common sense in your thinking - a not uncommon problem for Argentines, it seems.
@101 Dear crackpot from the Implanted spanish Colony called Argentina.
Mar 07th, 2013 - 01:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You state .....'argentine people 3 - 1 british people in actual confrontations'
That doesn't sound like a fair fight at all. Think you should go for 10-1 in any future confrontations, but even then you would have no hope.

Mar 07th, 2013 - 02:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Correct. No blocking of the port. However, movement out of the port was blocked.
Nevertheless the militant groups managed for several hours to block main accesses to the port of Ushuaia and the exit from the Customs and Migration offices, plus the burning of some banners allusive to the Falklands/Malvinas dispute.
But on Monday through a lateral gate and with the support of over 200 provincial riot police including mounted police and dogs, plus a hundred members from the Coast Guard, port authorities opened the way for the excursion coaches that took the cruise passengers for a local tour.
A peaceful protest ? Why was this HUGE show of force necessary ? Did the authorities expect an escalation of this peaceful picketing. The vessel did not dock unannounced and was presumably encouraged to come by the port authority and tourist board by long standing agreements.
If you had been a passenger on the ship, would you have cheered the protesters and shouted solidarity - we refuse to disembark to show we support you.
I would imagine the passengers would be saying I don't fancy getting off the ship with that crowd baying and waving banners at us.
It was obvious that the demonstrators wanted to deny access from the port and keep the passengers from leaving thereby giving the message that the tourists were not welcome.
I think the message will have been received. Requiring a police escort to go on a bus tour. Sounds a bit third world.
As to the playing of the National anthem, it was played on the ship, NOT on Argentinian soil, which, I agree, would have been wrong.
It is not unusual for cruise ships to have 'sail away' parties. Often this involves loads of patriotic last night of the proms type stuff, and every passenger waving little Union Flags. Its great fun, and any port I have witnessed it in are not at all insulted. In fact ships are often seen off by the locals cheering and waving back. In Lithuania the tug boats joined in and waved us off.
Mar 07th, 2013 - 03:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Why is it only Argentina that sees it as a threat. Cruise lines had certainly best avoid the place. I anticipate a SA cruse at some point, I would love to see the Falklands and Uraguay and Chile, but if it goes anywhere in Argentina I'd definitely give it a miss. God Save the Queen.

Does anyone know how the teachers live on $450 a month?
Mar 08th, 2013 - 07:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think you missed one zero.
Mar 09th, 2013 - 02:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It´s little anyway, and in most provinces it´s less.
Here in middle schools teachers are paid per weekly hour, so if they don´t get enough hours they may earn much less.
About the port blocking, it is against our Constitution, it´s a serious violation. Unfortunately our government didn´t do anything when protesters againt supposed river pollution in an Uruguayan mill blocked two international bridges fot year. Quebracho is an extremist organization which is the main promotor of the port blocking. They are violent as you can see. They don´t represent anyone. But it´s up to the government to stop them. Good for you if playing a hymn comforts you, but it means nothing to anyone here, because we don´t even know it. I´m sorry that the tourists can´t come and see that wonderful land, and the Fueguinos lose chance of good business, too. Fortunately for us in Buenos Aires there are thousands of tourists and many ships coming all the time.
God save Queen Cristina! THe Falklanders have nothing to fear, and everything to gain, from that particular star and princess of politics =)
