The head of Argentina’s Lower House, Julián Domínguez, assured on Sunday that the referendum being carried out in the Falklands/Malvinas Islands is “another move by the English empire to continue justifying the illegal usurpation of land”.

Speaking to the press, Domínguez stressed that “the Malvinas referendum has no legal international value” since “this is the opinion of a transplanted population living in the land of a sovereign state that is Argentina”, plus the fact that is the position of the United Nations.

The referendum “has no effect on the bilateral talks about the Islands’ sovereignty,” he assured.

At the same time, he added that “President Cristina Fernández has repeated before several international forums that the only way to solve this conflict is through bilateral talks and the UN has made it clear in several resolutions that it’s an issue with two parts involved in the talks, not three.”

“Therefore, the will of the Islanders and the United Kingdom is the same,” concluded the former Agriculture minister who also happens to be a Malvinas war veteran.
