Those of us hoping for a new argument from Argentina are still waiting.

Still trotting out the same old tired lines that have not gained Argentina even the minutest increase in sovereignty.

The Falkland Islanders don't need anything to change to live their lives. It is Argentina that needs something to change and seemingly can't bring it about.

These two women do talk some nonsense, well so long as they keep it in the family they can live their delusions together. It was good to see representatives from Lat Am in the Falklands for the referendum, unthinkable 12 months ago, now a sure sign that people are weary of the rantings of CFK. As her position weakens in Argentina so it will weaken in the rest of Lat Am. Bye bye CFK your days are numbered.

This is a quite ridiculous argument put forward by the Argentinians, who themselves as a former Spanish colony that declared independence in a territory that certainly wasn't their own. There were no indigenous people in the Falklands. I am not sure either that we should enter into any dialogue with a country that illegally invaded this territory, leading to the deaths of over 250 British people.

@9 - indeed, most un-statesperson like, playing to the cheap seats.

But then again she will be absolutely thrilled. In her view this keeps the self-inflicted wound on the national psyche well and truly open, ensuring the daily rubbing of salt (as drivers go down Malvinas Argentinas Avenue #67) keeps the locals distracted from the widespread incompetence and the trolls in food parcels. It of course also allows the knife to be twisted in times when bigger distractions are required.

No matter how much reason you put to CFK and her government, you are wasting your time. They've committed themse;ves long ago to keeping the Falklands issue in the forefront, and the situation will not abate until the present Argentinian government falls and hopefully then a more democratic responsible one takes its place.
The madness of CFK lies in the fact that , if the fictional actions she requires took place, she'd have to repatriate the present Falklands population to Britain, and then occupy the islands with what she'd call a victorious Argentinian community of her choice. That is Colonisation.

”The Argentine diplomat explained that self-determination is a fundamental principle contemplated by international law that but is not granted to any settlers of a certain territory, but only to the original natives that were or currently are being subjugated to a certain colonial power, “and this is not the case of the Malvinas Islanders.”

Not that I'm really that bothered about the islands but I think that she has missed the point here. They aren't deciding whether to occupy the building or not. The are voting about whether to stay in the same building in which they have lived and made thier home for over 180 years. there is a considerable difference.

So the islanders have voted to continue marrying their cousins.
They have voted to continue sending their kids to Uni in the uk,from which census figures show many do not return. Hence the ageing stagnant population figures on the islands.
What they have voted to reject is direct flights from Buenos AIres.
    Free public Uni in Argentina.

Such hypocrisy. The Falklands were uninhabited so they were NOT colonised and first SETTLED by the British before Argentina even EXISTED.

On the other hand, Argentina WAS colonised by the Spanish, inflicting untold misery and death upon countless Native Americans.

The Falkland will remain British, end of story. In Argentinas dire economy (even worse than here in Britain), nothing smells more of DESPERATION that by beating the nationalistic drum. Hideous woman.

@31 I think you have lived a very sheltered life if you think public universities in Argentina provide a decent education. They are terrible. Why would anyone choose to use them unless they were destitute? Or avoiding work, as most students in Argentina seem to be doing. The land of the eternal students.

Falkland Islanders are wealthy enough to pay for world class university education for their young people.

And they don't need direct flights to Argentina. Why would they want to visit such a hostile place on a regular basis? They have international flights for when they need them. The truth is Argentina has nothing to offer them that they cannot get elsewhere.

There is France's great big foxtrot oscar to you, Christina … and to rub salt into the wounds, an opinion poll, inspired by the Falklands vote, being run by Honk Kong's heavily pro-Beijing South China Morning Post is running more than 90% in favour of Hong Kong returning to its former British colonial status. @31 Before I turn to the article, let me ask you some questions. Do you live in argieland? Are you an “original native” of argieland? What tribe are you from? Is your country being subjugated by a colonial power, e.g. Germany, Italy, Spain, even if the “subjugators” have been there for 200 years and call themselves argies? Or are you one of the “subjugators”? Are you one of a “colonised people”? Aren't you an inhabitant of a “colonised territory”? Or are you one of the “colonisers”? Do you have any honest answers?

And now to the article. “On comparing the referendum to a ‘squatters’ meeting’ she added it all looked like they were “deciding if they were going to occupy the building or not.” Aren't you a squatter. Aren't you ”proud“ that your family has been in argieland for 3 generations? And your reaction to people that have lived in the Islands for 8 or 9 generations is to call them ”squatters“? Now I know why you and your Jewish yes-man won't meet the Islanders. You wouldn't be able to look them in the eye.
And then there's Alicia dumbass. Take her at her word. Isn't argieland a colonised territory? How many ”argies“ are ”original natives“? Less than 3%. Aren't 97% of argies ”subjugators” who happen to have moved in?
Thank you, Alicia. You have just conclusively shown that argies are less entitled to self-determination than the Islanders!

You seem to forget that just one of the Royal Navy's latest destroyers is capable of taking out the whole of Argentina's antiquated Navy and Air Force in less than 15 minutes .. and do so whilst still well out of range any of Argentina's defences. You also seem to overlook the fact that whilst there is talk about leaving the EU - which incidentally will never happen, because the vote will never happen - the UK and France (whose support for the British position is explicit and unequivocal) are effectively creating a single unified military force that will account for almost half of the total military expenditure in Europe .. not to mention the fact that large sections of the armed forces of countries like Holland, Denmark, Belgium and Norway effectively operate under British command. Britain is far from being as isolated as that propaganda you love to hear from the saggy old whore from La Plata.

It would also behove you to note that the EU constitution already regards the Falklands as British (a constitution which even Spain has signed) and that most EU member states are on public record as supporting that status quo, so there is no need for the EC to take a position, because its position is already crystal clear. As for Africa, perhaps it has escaped that tiny brain of yours that a hefty chunk of Africa has already expressed its support through the Commonwealth.

On the other hand, few of the countries that Argentina claims support them have actually expressed any support for Argentina's sovereignty claim. They have for the most part only expressed support for negotiations .. negotiations which Argentina refuses to be a part of. Even dear old Russia, who Britain has a far from good relationship with, has explicitly stated that it supports self-determination for the Falklands.

Perhaps you also forget that whilst Brazil and Chile pay public lip-service to Argentina, both have quietly extended and deepened their pre-existing defence agreements with the UK.

I've come to the conclusion that she is just a fucking cheeky bastard who likes having the Gringos and Pirates as enemies. Plain as day that she does not want the islands. If they did get them who would they then blame for their incompetencies and corruptness? She has the IMF and us Colonialists which will play well with the rest of the continent's politicians who are also a throwback to the 19th century.

If she was that desperate for the islands then the RG's would have met with the UK and FIG in London. the fact that they didnt meet tells you that the reality is - they couldnt give a toss about the islands.

she knows she will never get them.

That's why you went to The Dark Country; nobody else would have you when you had to do the Police referral.

    Today,
In the aftermath of the referendum, and replies and full support from our reliable and dependable and trustworthy friends in the EU and the American government,

    After reading [thinks links]

One has to honestly wonder if we are either living in the 19th century, or the run up to two world wars, where the sneaky and untrustworthy aggressor, seems to think that with the right amount of pressure and distractions, they can turn to violence and bring the world to conflict.

The American government, to their total embarrassment, on pandering to the argentines,
Will backfire, I watched the clip, and they refused point blank to recognise the referendum,
And they are not the only ones; the European response is the same,
I have not yet seen any country say they support it,

Rather than pressuring the British, or dissuading them, all it will do, is make us more and more reliant on ourselves to deal with and defend these islands,

All I will say is this,
If this turns to violence, and others are dragged in, and blood is spilled, because of one woman’s greed and obsession,

Then you would have, and will deserve everything you get,
For rather advancing Argentina, it could well put it back decades.
And destroy it as a unified nation for ever.

But make no mistake CFK will tread in it..

I'm the sort of person who likes to get on with people, to listen to them and to compromise wherever possible. I've listened to CFK and her malvinista cronies and their historical and geographical arguments. They are feeble and deserve absolutely no further consideration. If somebody turned up at my door and said he wanted my house because one of his relatives once lived here for a few weeks. I'd tell him to f*** off. If he said he just wanted discussions about me handing over the property I'd still tell him to f*** off. If he said that he wanted me to “give peace a chance” I'd either call the police or hit him. I might suggest he takes legal advice. The same applies to CFK and her ilk, her only reasonable option is to take her crazy claim to the ICJ, but of course she won't.

“There is NOTHING Argentine about Argentinians because they are an inplanted people from Europe”

That statement is so stupid, I don't know where to start. Even if the Argentines today all have roots in different European nations, the Argentine culture is nothing like any other nation. It has bits and pieces from many, and other parts derived from geographical and thermal conditions.
Setting all this aside might serve many ignorants around the web, but that inicial statement is STILL hilarious. For who are Argentines if not the Argentines?

DESPITE SOME OMISSIONS AND IRRELEVANT CONCEPTS.

What was omitted in this article, is that when c. f. k. compared the referendum, with a condominium meeting, was because she had read previouslly a small headline, published in a newspaper called, ámbito financiero, which considered the referendum like a codominium meeting, the headline said: ends the kelper condominuim meeting.
On the other hand, i have never agreeded on that stupid argument, which considers the population from the islands, like an implanted population, because while it is true that the actual population from the islands, is the result of the british usurpation in 1833, it's also true that after the genocide committed against the originary populations, by conservative killer julio roca, when he decided to occupy the patagonia, many inmigrants started to populate that vast territory, so, if the islanders are an implanted population, they aren't less implanted than many inhabitants from the mainland.
However, despite that genocide, our constitution includes the claims and the rights of the originary populations, which is a true historic reparation. That's' something that the u. k. has never made for arg., for having deprived it of exercising it's right over the archipelago, because unfortunatelly, such an admirable nation like the u. k., in some aspects still behaviours like the same thief of XIX century.
On the other hand, it's not true that the territory don't belong to the islanders. It belongs to them, in the same way that all the rest of argentina belongs to them also, beside, the islands belong to we all too.
If the right to self determination is not applicable for the population from the islands, is because arg. was deprived of exercising it's rights over the territory by the u. k. in 1833, beside since 1982, that country rejects sistematicly to resume the negotiations, and find a peaceful solution, as the u. n. call both countries. There is a lot more to say about all this question.

It would seem Stevie, Pesky Army and Axel Arg have all seen the light.

The first miracle of the papacy?

I'm summing up, they all agree that Argentina, Canada, the USA, Australia and the Falkland Islands are made up of immigrants from many different countries and each of their cultures are now different to their original country's as they have “bits and pieces from many, and other parts derived from geographical and thermal conditions”.

    ANGLOTINO.
I don't need to see any light, in order to have intellectual honesty, which is something that many of you don't have.
I have always thought and said exacty the same about the arguments that i expressed in my comment. Anyway, if you consider it like a miracle, i would like to know when will we see the miracle of watching the u. k. respecting the u. n.'s resolutions that call both nations to resume the negotiations and find a peaceful solution for this conflict, instead of using the hypocrite argument of self determination, which has never been applied for this cause, like it was invoked for other colonial situations by the u. n.
I would like to see the miracle also of reading the comments of many of you, recognizing that the case has strong and weak aspects for both countries, instead of reading you usuall mediocre comments, where you buy the british propaganda so easily, without any critic, if i see these two actions, then i will have to start to think about papacy miracles defenetly.

    @104 Axel Arg

Interesting that you bring up intellectual honesty. I write about many things and you repeat the same thing. It is you that is inflexible; so here are my beliefs. Nice, tidy, transparent and easy to read:

    I support:
    The right to self determination
    Argentina's LEGITIMATE rights

    What I believe:
The UK claimed sovereignty first; before Spain
Argentina claimed sovereignty after the UK
Vernet had UK permission and support to colonise the Islands
The UN currently recognises UK sovereignty
The UN recognises a sovereignty dispute
The UN requests both Argentina and the UK to settle the issue
The UN has never revoked self determination
The legal doctrine of territorial integrity is not retrospective
Argentina is only one of the SUCCESSOR states to VRP
Argentina is not the CONTINUING state of the VRP
A successor state does not inherit sovereignty claims
A continuing state does inherit sovereignty claims
Argentina created a claim in the 1940s to take advantage of a geopolitical shift
The UN recognises 4 options for the islands
a/ integration within the metropolitan area of the UK
    b/ integration within Argentina
    c/ independence
    d/ free association
The UK recognises 3 options for the islands
    a/ status quo
    b/ integration within Argentina
    c/ independence
Argentina recognises 1 option for the islands
    a/ integration within Argentina

    What I don't believe:
    That the islanders are squatters
Vernet had the right to be a UPRP governor
Argentina had the right to garrison troops on the islands in 1832
That the UK evicted an Argentine settlement or settlers
That the territorial integrity of Argentina is compromised
The UK is in breach of any UN resolutions
That only people who fight for independence can be South American
That republicanism is the only permitted government type in South America

How is that for intellectual honesty?

    Your turn!

    ANGLOTINO. ROBHANTS.
I have always thought that perhaps the u. k. had right to occupy the islands, in virue of it's occupation for 8 years in port egmont (1766-1774). However, according to the international right, the discovery just gives a precarious title, which muts be improved with a permanent occupation, that's yhy i think that maybe the u. k. had rights over the islands in 1833.
On the other hand, the rights of our cuntry were based on the succession of states, which is applied to all the emancipated colonial territories. While it is true that spain had never ceded anything to our country, when it declared it's independence in 1816, it is also true that the u. p. didn't need spains' licence in order to declare it's independence, and it had right to occupy the territories which had been submitted to the jurisdiction of the viceroalty, like the islands.
For all these reasons, i have always thought that if the u. k. had rights over the islands, it should have negotiated a solution with the u. p., or maybe share the sovereignty, instead of depriving our country of exercising it's rights.
On the other hand, i have never omitted the periods of silence of our country, in relation to it's claim. Beside, the signed agreement in 1850 didn't have anything to do with this cause.
However, it would be honest to take the into account the huge economic dependence that arg. had with the u. k., since XIX and for more than 100 years, so, it was obvious that it wasn't in conditions for claiming.
On the other hand, between 1884-1884, arg. suggested taking the case to the arbitration, which was rejected by the u. k., beisde in 1947, the u. k. proposed to take just the dependencies to the i. c. j.
Beyond all these facts, in 1968, 1974 and in 1980, the u. k negotiated with arg. about this cause.
All these facts show that the case has strong and weak aspects for both nations. This is what i call intellectual honesty.
There is a lot more to say about this cause.
