    Falklands - investment magnet

    Argentina - basket case

    Why? Falklands is trustworthy because of its association with Britain. Argentina has a reputation for lying, cheating and reneging on loans, and deals with a reputation of nationalising anything worthwhile. Untrustworthy!

    lol, Argentina's immediate response was that there were other countries/companies interested.......and when that didn't scare Brazil into continuing the work, time to admit there were no other interested parties, just one PISSED off party: Argentina, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!1
    Thanks Argentina for the comedy! Best source of lol's ever!

    Some times it is hard to explain what is ment with “Argentinan Political Talk”
    Planning Minister Julio De Vido warned Vale was “violating all national and provincial laws”
    This actually means that “You have upset CFK”
    It in truth has nothing to do with Laws as CFK does not accept any law other than her own thoughts

    If I understand right, Brazil has a big need for potash for its agriculture. Brazil is a big place and probably has a lot of land under the plow.

    Where can they get that potash? How will this affect the price of fertilizer in Brazil?

    Maybe not anytime soon, but at least someday, I think Mendoza will be sending that potash to Brazil.

    As Phil Bennett said in 1977:

    “Look what these bastards have done to Wales. They've taken our coal, our water, our steel. They buy our homes and live in them for a fortnight every year. What have they given us? Absolutely nothing. We've been exploited, raped, controlled and punished by the English — and that's who you are playing this afternoon”.

    Yesterday, former vice-president Julio Cobos warned that the suspension “should send alarm bells ringing” because it means that the country’s current environment is not attracting “genuine investment.”
    Cobos, a Radical leader, explained that the causes of the situation were spiraling inflation, the double exchange rate (blue and official dollar), the lack of a logistical infrastructure and ever-changing business regulations. The suspension should serve as a wake-up call to government authorities, he said.
    Furthermore, Cobos concluded “Argentina needs to offer stability and this can only be done with clear rules and respecting the agreements made.”

    'Vale's withdrawal should send alarm bells ringing ...
    the country’s current environment is not attracting genuine investment ...
    the causes of the situation were:
    * spiralling inflation,
    * the double exchange rate,
    * the lack of a logistical infrastructure and
    * ever-changing business regulations.

    A wake-up call to government.

    Argentina needs to offer:
    1. stability ..
    2. clear rules ..and

    @16 You're hilarious. Argieland regularly breaks provincial, national and international laws. Here's some clues. Has argieland paid compensation to Repsol yet? The argie “constitution” says “Expropriation for reasons of public interest must be authorized by law and previously compensated.” How's the “Media Law” going? “Section 32.- The Federal Congress shall not enact laws restricting the freedom of the press or establishing federal jurisdiction over it.” And how's argieland's “relations” with other countries? “Section 27.- The Federal Government is under the obligation to strengthen its relationships of peace and trade with foreign powers, by means of treaties in accordance with the principles of public law laid down by this Constitution.” Could you tell us about the “laws” that stop British-flagged vessels entering argie ports? “Section 20. - Foreigners enjoy within the territory of the Nation all the civil rights of citizens; they may exercise their industry, trade and profession; own real property, buy and sell it; navigate the rivers and coasts; practice freely their religion; make wills and marry under the laws.” Should we go on to detail how argieland attempts to evade U.S. law? Argieland “chose” to issue bonds under New York law. Now it tries to use argie “law” to evade its obligations. Pitiful, criminal losers!
    @42 Not much chance of that. CFK takes the view that argieland is her personal piggybank. Emphasis on PIG. Should one wonder how her “personal wealth” has increased from US$500,000 to at least US$114 million in such a short time? Remember how she says she was a lawyer? But no-one can find any record of her graduation! Not even a picture of the graduation ceremony. A country of crooks is being run by...a crook. And she's even robbing her own people blind. Why would she offer stability, clear rules and respect for agreements? She'd be caught out in less than a year.

    Brazil may like to consider a new oil province opening up a little south from them. A business friendly, tax favourable and stable governance sounds attractive I'm sure. They'll get to deal with professionals who see projects through and earn a pretty penny directly and indirectly via support for the oil business, providing plenty of stable jobs.
