Brazilian supermarkets will not sell meat from cattle raised in Amazon rainforest

The main group representing supermarkets in Brazil says it will no longer sell meat from cattle raised in the rainforest. The Brazilian Association of Supermarkets, which has 2,800 members, hopes the deal will cut down on the illegal use of rainforest for pasture. Read full article

    Nothing but “BRAVO” here! As well as “thank you” to the Supermarket association for their wisdom and courage. More of this kind of action is necessary everywhere.

    Well done!

    But it is only as good as the actions that the nation and its constituent states emplace to ensure the laws are neither circumvented or totally disregarded - like so much other Brasilian legislation.

    The specific words '.. supermarkets have promised to reject meat from areas of the Amazon where illegal activities take place, such as illegal logging and invasion of public land' .. have so much 'wriggle-room' that it will be at least as hard to police as the tagging of premium wild salmon from the NE Atlantic.

    [After all Lula da Silva must be allowed to make his profit from his alleged vast new family land-holdings.]
