Double standards once again from Argentina. Call the Falklands Referendum a PR stunt and the next day Argentine President asks Pope to assist in dispute.... You have to love Argentina's ability to not feel shame and embarrasment.

Cracking game, always nice to win, but there is something special about beating England, watched it on TV, atmosphere was fantastic!
Neighbours must have thought I was nuts, every time I shouted, Toby our Cocker, went crazy, running round the house barking, think he enjoyed the match as much as I did.
Politics aside, good luck to both teams on the upcoming England tour to Argentina, reckon we will see some good rugby, Pumas are getting better and better.
@34
Mar 28th, 2013 - 05:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Should be interesting, provided the military and police respect that it is sport and make sure that it is not not turned into a political event.
England will do em even with Steve Welsh as the referee.
Mar 28th, 2013 - 05:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Hope not, some things are above politics, sport is one of them, I am Welsh, Rugby is more than a game to us it's poetry in motion, it has everything, Skill, courage, endurance, team work, it's all there. Does not matter who is playing it, it's exciting to watch. No matter who you are, there is no greater honour than pulling on your nations jersey and giving your all.

You know what I liked about it, after the matches, I have met and socialised with, Japanese, Romanians, Italians, French, Aussies, Kiwis, Canadians, yes and even bloody Argentinians. Never a bad word, all friendly and cordial, mind you some of the buggers can not sing, the French, now they were good.
Best match I ever saw was against Japan, Wales put 80 points past them, you would think it that was funny? Not a bit, everyone was commenting on how the Japanese played, never gave in, tackled all the time, even though their size disadvantaged them, two three players taking down one of ours, brilliant! Gave 110% all through the game. We all made sure they knew how much we admired there efforts, why? Because we wanted them to come back and maybe, just maybe, the score difference would not be so high the next time and the time after that.

As a Chilean Patagonian, born and grew in Punta Arenas, Magallanes, and living here I can say that the most of the inhabitants of this Región are supporters of the Falklands Islands cause because we have strongs tirs with their people from long time ago....And lately it have been reinforced by visits from both countries students, journalist, businessme, sports clubs, etc. and the medical support through our local clinic and Santiago´s clinic. The comercial ties have been kept even the Argentine blockade threat, helping the Falklander population to have a choice of fresh goods....
Our position is that the right self determination of the people is the first clause must be considered at the time to decide over the sovereignity.....specially when no territorial continuity exist with the neighbours countries....
So, a big hugh to all my Islanders friends that have expresed their wish at the polling cabins.....in such a democratic act.. well done...!!!

All the best to you and thanks for speaking of the support that we Falkland Islanders already know exists in bucket loads. I have lots of great friends in Punta Arenas and I don't doubt for a moment the strength of our bonds.

I, personally, am not from the Islands, but that was very nice to hear.
What a relief from the torrent of vituperation and plain, raw hatred spewing from from 'think' and his other incarnations.
What is wrong with those people that they are just seething with unrelenting nastiness??
I swear that La Csmpora must have a policy to enlist the mentally-ill, Sussie, think, toby-teen-troll.
Are the Chileans the only SA people who are not brainwashed?
I am not from Punta Arenas, but from the center of Chile. But I support Sergio's last comment. Cheers to the people of the Falklands Islands, that are living on their islands same amount of generations as we do in our country Chile and RG's in theirs...
Mar 29th, 2013 - 03:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So indeed, the support from Chile in general is there... we are not as loud in that matter, as it is not our political nature, but the support is sincere and stable. We need no big fake shows...
Despite that Argentina has 30 years of an open strategy of close relationship and brotherhood with Chile that upsets British goals, some Chileans in their Patagonia and Magallanes regions feel that sometimes our governments protect them better than the santiaguinos do.

Read all about it read all about it,
After decades of failure corruption, bad decisions , bankrupts
And national humiliation,
The Argentina people today, voted to become Falklanders under the islands control
After the kind loving islanders paid of her debts, and dragged them to democracy,
CFK said from her prison cell, it’s a conspiracy,
And her former henchman mr tinman, said from the asylum, it was all her fault..
But at least we can now feed in peace.
Read all about it,
Chuckle,

Think- of course those who made a free choice from Chile,Uruguay and Argentina and came and settled here and took out their status and naturalisation can never be English- neither am I -- their children though are/will be 100% Falkland Islanders - and when they grow up they will also have their free democratic choice, along with all others here on the electoral role then, to decide the future of their Islands.
Mar 29th, 2013 - 10:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Unlike Argentina, we happen to not be a racist nation. That is why we have over 20 different nationalities living in such a small community and Islanders intermarrying with Chileans-Argentines-Saint Helenians-English-Welsh-Scottish-etc etc.Even some Zimbabweans are settling here now, and very welcome they are.
And Marcos - a bit difficult I agree when you live in the northern hemisphere - but Sergio and Enrique are hardly friends!
I'm not needing more Defenders because I have 5 of them, so I can choose which one I´ll drive any day.....and next will be a brand new....
Mar 29th, 2013 - 11:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The supporting group to Malvinas are a gang of comunist that are also supporting Evito, Rafaelito, Madurito and others leaders taken fronm the garbage can....as well as CFK...And Malvinas is a stadium on Mendoza city, nothing more....
And yes, I keep my wallet near to my heart beacause we have Argentine Gvt. officials as neighbors with very Speedy hands....
We, the Chilean Patagonian people will prefeer to be dead before to be Argentine, that was demonstrated on 1978 when you threatened us because you denied to accept a laudo desition referred to the southern Chilean Islands at the Beagle Channel....we were ready to fight you with an armed forces very very small and less equiped compared with yours (at those years......now it's the reverse, as you know).
Hope Islanders soon will have good profits from their oil found under their waters and their country then will be one of the richest per capita in the world ...Good for them...
And I´ve seen what the behaviour they show with all the foreign people living there if they keep a good way of life.....
It's known for all that the supporting words from the Chilean Gvt. are just to keep the snake into the bastket, but the real support is that the LAN flight , the Scout trip and permanent ties are doing its Works for our Falklanders friends....
Anyway, the words written by those Argentines like Twinc and others are as a prize for me, because I´ll never could agree with they in any way....so thanks to all of you....sincerily.
At least, the regular Argentine citiziens are not like these ones that are posting here, by the contrary they are as friendly and good persons as any Southern Patagonia and Atlanctic not contaminated with the bad influence from the central Argentine Gvt.
Think - common sense says Chile supports the Arg position over the Falklands- in public.
Mar 30th, 2013 - 12:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0As has been said - Countries can choose Nations as friends. Your neghbours and boundaries you have to learn to live with and adjust to.
Same all over the world. What is said in public doesnt always match what happens in reality though.
As one ex Chilean Foreign Minister once said - Perhaps 90% of Chileans back the Islanders rights of self determination and choice - but a Chilean Govt with a 5000-km border - will always vote with the 10%!
Its common sense economic reality - and we understand it here.

@100 That open strategy of close relationship and brotherhood with Chile. Was that from before or after Videla declared arbitration award of the Picton, Lennox and Nueva Islands to Chile to be null? Even when Pope John Paul II got involved, didn't argieland avoid acceptance until it had been beaten by Britain in the Falklands War? Aren't you still at odds over the Southern Patagonian Ice Field where you published a tourist map in 2006 placing the disputed region in argieland? Was that open? Or was it typical argie underhandedness? Wasn't argieland planning to declare war on Chile after it had finished off the Falklands? Didn't go too well, did it? But then, argies have always been incompetent numpties, haven't they? Just think. 400 miles from their homeland, argies got beaten shitless by a nation that had to send a Task Force 8,000 miles to do it!
Mar 30th, 2013 - 12:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@103 I see that after complaining about a supposed diversion about Rugby and Welsh, Twinky, you have now attempted a diversion about motor vehicles. Typical argie twonk. We can do it, but no-one else can. Does it hurt your self-esteem when proper democratic nations tell you to sod off? When even the UNSG politely and diplomatically tells you that you're prats and liars? Or are you so dumb that nothing can get through? Ever thought about trying to evolve into a human?
Think- I think you will find inflated prices of Argentine products IN Argentina- not in Chile.
Mar 30th, 2013 - 08:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This last summer cruise vessels have found stone fruit from Chile - airfreighted to the Islands - is cheaper than Argentine stone fruit inside Argentina.
Also they have found a range of Argentine products to be cheaper if bought in Uruguay abd seafreighted to the Islands - thus several middleman have all put their margins on - but the price is still CHEAPER than same Argentine product if purchased in Ushuaia.

@126 they do say some very silly things indeed. I truly wonder if the population of Latin-chauvinism America are too brain dead to know how silly his words are.
Mar 31st, 2013 - 10:00 am - Link - Report abuse 0#126 I agree the whole of Latin America must be searching its soul at how the continent was raped and conquered by Spain and Italy who murdered the vast majority of the inhabitants and asking itself why it condems the Indians to live in hovels collecting cardboard and plastic to put food on their tables. Terrible isn't it? Contrast that with the Falkland Islands settled by the British without murdering or displacing anyone where folk originally from 50 different nations live in peace, prosperity and harmony with nature. Apart from an odious neighbour, everything is dandy.

Comon fellas, do not be too hard on the Argies, I know that deep down they agree with us. Thats what I would like to think, but on the otherhand?
