Two other countries (from Central America) Panama and Costa Rica have formally requested to join the alliance as full members.

There is a clear choice in Latin America at the moment and I don't see a huge queue for Mercosur now that it snuck Venezuela in.
Maybe because Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Brunei, Costa Rica have nothing to offer Argentina?

Or the USA like back in 2005 when Argentina killed the FTAA single-handedly. As it is now killing the EU-Mercosur agreeement, as it will kill the “Pacific Alliance” agreeement with Argentina when they come asking for it.

The world is moving on from Mercosur and the Pacific Alliance is proof.
Is the world standing still? Are they all waiting with baited breath for Argentina?
NOPE!
They're moving on doing other deals. Peru and Colombia most recently in your neighbourhood.... they're part of the Pacific Alliance and these countries are already integrating faster than anything Mercosur is doing.
Honestly Nostrils, it must be your youth that deludes you into thinking that Argentina is important in the scheme of things. From your narrow and parochial view sitting in Mendoza without any ability to travel further than your own country's borders, you act as if Argentina matters.
You are getting what you want, Argentina is becoming a backwater. Soon you will hardly be able to buy anything made outside Argentina, which will seemingly make you happy. However your obvious ignorance and juvenile reasoning skills doesn't realise what that will mean.
I'm glad my country is nothing likes yours. I am so glad that your country took the wrong turn more than half a century ago and that forces you to talk about the belle epoch and Argentina's glory days in the past tense while we talk about our in the present and future tense.
I hope that the Pacific Alliance forgoes the trappings of grandeur that so many pathetic little clubs build to showcase their lack of activity - the parliaments and secretariats and buildings of Mercosur and Unasur spring to mind. Instead I look forward to the day where I can take my degree to one of these countries and work without hindrance and then save up a day or two of my pay packet and use it to backpack for a month around Argentina.
Because in your future Nostrils, a day or two pay from these countries will be your Argentinean monthly wage.

Toby doesn't really believe much of the nonsense he espouses. He is extremely nationalist and wants to defend his country from all criticism. Unfortunately for him there is no rational argument to defend Argentina's economic management, so he looks for refuge in his unconvincing (unconvincing in that you can tell he doesn't really believe it and unconvincing in that it is riddled with holes) isolationism argument. He is just hiding out in the rubble of all previously destroyed arguments.
It is a shame.

A while ago the country of Turkmenistan implemented full 100% tariffs on all foreign products and capped prices and subsidized all utilities for the citizens. No one cared an iota and I don't see the world mobilizing to get back at them for the lack of reforms.
So either we do matter somewhat, or the world just has it totally against us for some reason. But indifference is not one of the options.
And yes I do want to become a backwater. Don't you get it, we don't like your way of life and your worldview of money money, and only money.
That's all you care about.

We have all known this for a very long time.
No one cares if Argentina pulls out of the WTO, IMF, UN etc, but if you have current obligations then live up to them. Until you withdraw totally you'llhave to meet those obligations.

As for a backwater, you seem to imagine that Argentina has and is creating some new economic and social paradigm.
It isn't!
Your severe lack of life experience and inability to travel anywhere than within your narrow parochial desires doesn't give you the ability to see that everything Argentina is doing has been done elsewhere before and lead to failure.
Argentineans on the while still clamour for their own version of western affluence and lifestyle and just because the ineptitude of their government frustrates that desire and hinders its attainment, does not mean the desire is not there.
Petulance is not a national trait, just yours.
