If Dilma was smart and looking for trade brownie point before her mission to the USA, she would be saying something to the effect.
“we endorse Maduro but also believe a recount would be prodent based on the razor thin margin of victory”.

They're technically members of UNASUR, but that's only so they don't get left out of anything regional they should know about. And Brazil is a disaster because of its socialism, and because of its corruption/mismanagement. I don't wish that on Chileans. Brazilians LOVE Chile. When I was in Chile there were tons of Brazilians there looking for work and gushing over how wonderful a country it is.
If I had been born in Brazil, I would have done ANYTHING to get out, ANYTHING! including risking my life and doing dangerous, illegal things. But if I had been born in Chile...I'd be alright with that, I might make no effort at all to go to USA or UK, I might be happy just the way things were.

Anyhow it is a huge topic and there are many other factors behind the protests...not going to go into it now. More broadly free doesn't equal better and all of South America’s university education is lacking. Chilean and Brazilian universities dominate the top 10, but we are still a long way down the international rankings.

Hi, I’ve just published a novel based in Venezuela which tackles the issues of power and corruption under Chávez within the framework of a fictional story of arms and drug smuggling. The similarities with Argentina are stunning - who would want to be supported by this group of leftie failures??

Yes, it is only sensible for fellow Lefty presidents of South America to hold to the general proposition 'My fellow Bolivarians, right or wrong'.
It would break the consensus if any broke ranks to question the process or the 'result'. The election had the intended outcome, and the means to the outcome can only get embarassing if proceedural questions are allowed.
It might be that the actual pressing of the buttons was done ethically (“Press here once” rather than “Press here once but come back six times”) but, with the whole of the machine of state engaged in 'stacking' the votes, one has to say that this is as far away from a democratic election as it could be.
I have seen similar sorts of thing in North East Brasil, and would say it bears so little resemblance to a British election process that it really deserves a different name.

Quite wrong, her books have been published in over 67 languages, so your claim that they “would have never been published anywhere else” is absolute balls!!!!!!

I am sure that their is good literature in all languages but it requires a more than basic skill in any language to extract the full meaning and nuances of the writing.
A better judge of an author is how many languages into which they have been translated. J K Rowling writes books for children which seem to have hit a resonant spot worldwide.
Nobody would claim it is great literature - but it is what the public want.
GREATS: Garcia Marquez, Vargas Llosa... in Portuguese Coelho.

Music, yes there is a lot of crap music about in ALL countries, again it is what you like to listen to. It's like art , you either like it or you don't and no one can convince you either way.
As to sports most of the modern ones were codified and regulated in the 19th century in the UK. and adopted world wide. Very few games were invented from scratch with the possible exceptions of billiards and snooker.
English is used as a desirable second language mainly because of the USA and because of the relics of Britain's colonial past.
In India, the most prestigious schools teach their lessons in English. Educated Chinese have English as a top priority subject.
Why do you speak and read English ? It is not a requirement in Argentina or any S.American country. You don't need it as you will never leave your homeland and hate everything to do with the UK. If you don't hear or see it, your life could be pleasant and complete. Spanish should suffice.
By the way, I have asked you twice already on your view of Italian/Spanish immigrants arriving in Argentina. As Europeans do you still hate them or are they magically transformed into blameless Argentinians ?
#82 - Paulo Coelho isn't good literature, it's commercial and sells well, and that's all that there is to it. He was a great songwriter for Raul Seixas though. If you want good portuguese-language literature, you should look for Machado de Assis, Saramago, Aluísio de Azevedo, Dalton Trevisan, Clarice Lispector amongst others. Just wanted to point that out.
