Almost two million Argentines marched on Thursday evening across the country’s cities and towns in one of the biggest anti-government protests in years highlighting public anger over a deteriorating economy, corruption, street crime and President Cristina Fernandez efforts to reform the media, the courts and the constitution so she can bid for a third consecutive four year mandate. Well good luck Argentina.
Apr 19th, 2013 - 05:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Perhaps if your government put as much effort in to feeding you as she does whining about the Falklands you'd be better off. You allow this to happen. Stand up.
Wake up, Argentina!!

Maggie Thatcher started all this.

But this is impossible! Tobias constantly assures us that everything is perfect in Argentina, and that everyone is rich and happy!
Apr 19th, 2013 - 08:55 am - Link - Report abuse 0Oh, I know, these 2 million people are like the Junta, nothing to actually do with Argentina, and it is all somehow someone else's fault.
Never mind, Tobias, Marcos, Think/DoD will be along soon to say that at least Argentina doesn't have .....(insert irrelevant link to something completely irrelevant happening - and probably several years earlier - in another country). Failing that, they'll comment on the Boston bombings, and glorify the terrorists by trying to compare what they do to Iraq/Afghanistan etc...
I wish La Campora would write a new playbook, this one is getting old and stale.

2 million Argentines can bang on 2 million pots every day from now until the day of elections.

By following the democratic path when electing a government?
Or by annoying your arse with the truth?
@13 im with you, i would love nothing more than a fixed election to secure another peronist government inflicted upon the argentine population, shes and her minions are doing a truly sterling job from a british perspective and apparently 2 million pot bangers, as i believe its not a demonstration but a celebration for the kirchner reich, a misunderstood outpouring of love for the dear leader.

@16 thats possible, more likely they cannot afford pots and pans to join in the mass joyful pre-election celebration, or they are so overwhelmed and giddy with happiness and excitement that they all thought it best to take the day off! who knows?
Apr 19th, 2013 - 10:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0Marches are always a small fraction of the entire populace with the same sentiments. While we all want kfc's demise to end in the manner of Mussulini, it would serve no value to democracy. The next march the need to start demanding a presidenttal impeachment. Perhaps the politicians will be responsive to the population. If not, vote them out in October, if that does not work............storm the pink house.
Apr 19th, 2013 - 11:28 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well its all good that the people are allowed to protest, but there is some irony, isn't there, that these people are marching against Cristina's attempts to reform the media and the judiciary, when Clarin and crooked judges were key props of the junta which didn't allow any dissent at all! I hope the majority of the Argentine people will stand up and be counted against this movement FOR corrupt press and corrupt judiciary. Maybe these rightists are encouraged by the rampage of Caprilles' violent thugs now; when Maduro faces them down, perhaps their Argie co-thinkers will also be demoralised...

Apr 19th, 2013 - 12:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 01- There is no way that there were 2m people marching, this is a complete lie from crappy media Like Clarin Miente, La Destrucción and MP from UK team.
Who do you want to cheat with these figures?
I saw many marches in Buenos Aires and bigger than this from Plaza de Mayo to Congress and the same crappy media where reporting bigger marches from Unions, social NGO, etc. never more than 150k/200k.
May be for certain neocons dinosaurs people tend to multiply people from marches by 10 when serve they interest.
2-Most of the people that were interviewed in the March seem to be working for Clarin Miente and la Destrucción, always the Morons repeat the same script without any argument.
Like the idiots here about FI want to be British, not even them believe that crap.
3-May be Jorge la Grasa is behind this? who knows?, may be after the failure of his “political scandal” that he made up with two idiots liars, he start to count people for “Clarin Miente” and multiplying by 10.
He needs to do something after his complete failure in telling lies.
The fat smoking man need something to restore his credibility that is just low as a package of Lasagna being sold in Tesco with the label pure beef from Romania made by Comigel.
Well I would like to give you guys a title for an article Clarin Miente, La Destrucción, The Economist or why not Mercopress Style.

rattatatat rattatatat is that a retirement party I hear?
@26 I'm sure an assessment from your parents' leaky basement is most accurate. Though, it looks much bigger than the pro-government marches that Cristina organizes.
Apr 19th, 2013 - 01:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Clearly, she would have to dip into the reserves a little to cover the cost of the Choripan and cheap boxed wine.
I didn't protest because I was too busy attending a funeral of someone that died due to medical stupidity. CFK is all about stupid, fat piles of lard having jobs they aren't qualified for as a part of her social inclusion. Nurses that are unfit even to work as maids thought that a temperature of 33.2(Celsius) is normal.
Though I'm sure certain foreign cowards think it's OK, while gratifying themselves to pictures of a leathery bag of botox.

Lovely thought.
La Campora is really desparate.......I think it's most difficult to continue to shrug this off. Apparently some idiots think the entire population must march to be valid.

What about 1 allanamiento to those Baez, Cristóbal and so on???? Those are the ones with impunity, doing fraude. But no, those are protected by this gov. They should not participate in licitations, they are suspected of high level of corruption, no more licitations for Baez, Cristobal, Maximito, they cant explain how they became rich, oh well they can do it with the political and judicial protection of another thieves in power.
Those people might as well march for a joint American, British, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Chilean, Brazilian, Chinese, Uruguayan occupation of the country. That is the alternative from a government that stands up to the foreigners. The opposition may have some fresher economic ideas, but they would not be the government in fact. That also makes the 2.000.000+ in the rest of the country a very important voice for freedom!!!!!!

A DEMOCRATIC EXPRESSION, DESPITE SOME HYPOCRITE BEHAVIOURS.
Apr 19th, 2013 - 04:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0While it is true that everybody have right to protest in the country, it's also true that in not all the nations people can express their descontent freely, without being hardly repressed by statal forces, like so loved lady thatcher used to do when she ruled the u. k., and ordered to repress social protests.
However, in all the manifestations, including yesterday, there were agressions against journalists, by small groups of reactionary and mediocre people, which was shamefully omitted in this report.
It necesary to hear what people said yesterday, and read their signs, instead of watching the pictures only, or reading a lammentable report like this, which analysis is decadent and too partial.
If many of those people who were protestting yesterday really cared about having more security, or fighting against corruption, they wouldn't claim c. f. k. only. They know they should claim the different governors too.
However when i see that the demands and the critics are adressed to c. f. k. only, then i realize that many of those people are just using these problematics hypocritically, but actually they don't have any genuine concerning in relation to those problems.
Everybody know that security doens't depend on c. f. k's decisions only, it's a responsability of the different governors too, according to our contitution.
On the other hand, people from capital, at the ame time that they criticised the denounces of corruption cases that invole c. f. k's govt., they didn't say a word about the corruption cases that involve mauricio macri's government, which shows the hypocrite using by the protestors.
Beside, they all omitted that justice must be independent not just from government, but from corporations too, however none of them said absolutly anything in reference to the legal protection that the clarin group could get since 2009, in order to not to comply with the new broadcast law. HYPOCRITES AND DECADENTS.

Nah, no need, the people is in charge, and you'll only be taking back power with force. Mostly because you lot just can't take a democratic defeat.
It's not the lack of power that worries you the most, it's the fact that the wealth of the nation is being distributed to the most needy ones. And you, playing the part as the most greedy ones, are a bit butthurt.
That's ok though, and with time, it's a feeling you'll get used to ;)
from a more personal, selfish point of view i hope she remains voted in, the best source of comedy caper that ever took office, she will be missed by at least 1 person anyway, i cant see chubbys chavez rent boy being much fun to ridicule.

Well I hope when she sees how happy her magnanimous decision not to change the constitution makes the likes of you, she'll change her mind. But if she doesn't, then good people like Stevie (though maybe not him persoanlly, isn't he a Uruguyan?!) will have a candidate to vote for who stands in the same tradition, Timmerman perhaps, and like with Maduro after Chavez the popular project will continue. And I think even under the current constitution Cristina can run in 2019, and she still looks young to me =)
#43 Even if you consider that Cristina has been great, it is obvious to everybody that her time to depart has come
A point somewhat undermined by the fact that no-one who actually thinks she's been great would agree! The earliest she's leaving, apart from through death or a coup, is 2015 =)

Hence Dweebie, Markus Dickus, Danny Bugger etc., have very little credibility in their arguments.......inflation, crime & corruption are the main issues in Arg today, but what are the 3 most important cases in the congress.....media law, 'democratization' of the justice system & changes to the constitution........ All of which are designed to give CFK ultimate power!!!
Changes to the justice system is the way Adolf started. Hmm Kirchner...? Eichmann...

How can people like doderyoverdover, Stink (same person), Sussie (US), Axel (canada) etc etc etc actually comment on things they only read the same as us, then pretend to know the mood of the country, then actually slag off a man who is there and NOW, telling them how it is, pricks !!!!!!!!! Brainwashed and paid by the Campora, I'd fuckin sack them as they are shite, continually change thier names to make it look like there are loads off rgs posting and then post the same shite in the same way THICK AS. Even the trolley dolly Castro could do better ...............oh wait a minute
There can be created a cathedra of making bigs robbings with Professor Baez López Boudou and Kirchner. And big are millions of dollars and euros, not pesos. To teach the poor how to make testaferros, how to create offshore enterprises in paradise tax countries using the money of the people of this country, where can be find those lawyers that know how to make thinks tidy and how to manage the press to say they are all victims of a campaign of desprestigio. And how the justice does nothing to investigate this managements, because they are legal. And then how if you are friend of the politicians on power you can win all licitations, to continue robbing, well NO investing money of course, jajaj.

You need yerba though.
Put the yerba in the mate, add cold water and let it sink for a miute. Repeat the process 2, 3 times, depending on the quality of your bombilla. Insert the bombilla. Remember to seal the top opening to avoid yerba inside the bombilla.
By now you might also want a posa mate.
Finally, open your mouth and pour the hot water directly on your tongue. Watch out for the flies.
Watch the mate. Get help.
50 Stevie (#) Your quote: It's not the lack of power that worries you the most, it's the fact that the wealth of the nation is being distributed to the most needy ones. Apr 21st, 2013 - 04:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0Regarding the protest, it was bigger than 8N where I live. I went there. I am not happy with CFK, Governor Scioli, vicegov Mariotto, and many more.
Yes, some people were agressive and rude and had no idea why they were there. Some people are just jerks. But, the majority knew and were well aware of why and what they were protesting against.
Of course that if you read the news in an officialist (pro-gov) newspaper, they were all rich and wanted a coup. If you read Clarin, or La Nacion, is a whole different story.
I don't believe either. But I am more likely to not believe in anything the government (or associated media) says, based on personal experience regarding inflation, security, employment, health care, and such.
Most people named CFK because ultimately she is the main responsible for the country's well being. And time and time again, she has proven that she and her gov. do not take any responsibility for anything. And most of the people in gov (aside from some exceptions) are from her party.
People are fed up. They want answers, they want changes. Inflation is galloping, crime is rampant and the only gov. response is you are robbed because you are rich, you want to travel to Miami, you are a liar, inflation is only 10%, Macri did it, Clarin lies. Ohh, and my personal favorite you are protesting because you are fascist pig, and you are rich, obviously.
Whether you support or dislike CFK, you cannot deny that inflation is extremely high, unemployment is soaring, crime is out of control, and corruption is rampant. I cannot believe that some people seriously believes that all news from Clarin, etc. are all made up. You only have to look around, and to look at all the people protesting, to see that her gov. is not perfect, far from it. None is, but she takes no responsibility and she is the freaking President.
I really cannot understand people that blind support her (or anyone).

I always hear that argument . In Uruguay, in Venezuela, in Argentina.
Tell se Carola. Crime is rampant in comparison to when? Compared to the 90's? The years of the state financed political violence, maybe?
And if it's as you lot say that CFK's government is all about handouts, who are the criminals? Surely those who benefits wouldn't commit more crime than before...
You are parroting Clarín and La Nación.
Crime IS rampant in Uruguay. Its growing at an unbelievable clip. When I first moved there in 2009, it was still pretty lax, but by the time I left in late 2011, it was almost a different nation, at least in Montevideo. The interior and far from Montevideo parts were still chill.

Cristina has never led through fear, but persuassion. In her typical classy way I think she described it once as I like to seduce =) But as for the guv'nors, most of them strike me as pretty unimpressive, politically backward and obsessed with personal ambition. I hope the real leftist K tendency, and the transversal left, can in time replace them with better candidates; and I certainly expect Cristina will not let Scioli get away with standing as her successor yet with the opposite of her policies...

Apr 21st, 2013 - 11:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I was mugged 15 times in 2012. My car was broken into 6 times.
I am lucky that my house was never broken into. But everyday, you (well, I, at least) hear about how the guy from the other block was murder, the girl from around the corner was raped, the shop 2 blocks away was looted. And this is neighbourhood gossip, not a piece of news given by Clarin, or La Nacion.
And most of the people I know are experiencing the same.
Anyway, we could argue all day long about who is right and who is wrong. But, at the end of the day, you have to look at all the people protesting (whether they are 200,000, or 2,000,000) and pay attention to their claims. If a protest this big happened in any other country, the gov. will take notice and DO SOMETHING, not just disregard and ignore the people protesting.
British_Kirchernist:
I have to disagree. I don't think CFK leads by persuasion at all. It's either you are with me or against me. And we all know what happens to those against her.
What happened after her stunt at Harvard was shameful and I am embarrassed to have her as my President, especially after the Once tragedy and how her administration handled it. I personally know one of the guys who questioned her at Harvard. He has a scholarship (the only way most Argentinian can afford Harvard) and his family was investigated by AFIP a week after CFK was at Harvard. It's that type of persecution that most object to.
I think that Argentina is a rich country in the sense that we have many, many natural resources and land to take advantage of. Unfortunately, we have (well, we vote) the same type of gov. over and over again. If we can get it right on election day, we could be a great country.
CarolaLSB, I am sorry to hear of your tragedies. My wifes father was robbed at gun point 6 times in Recoleta. The last time he was beat with the handgun. He now carries a handgun for personal protection and he is a physician.
Apr 21st, 2013 - 11:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Kirchner uses the AFIP as her personal attack dogs. You all really have to stop the judicial reform and find a better way, like judiciary review and impeachment process for incompetent and corrupt judges. You like in Argentina....BK and Stevie does not and you can expect a dismissive rebuttal from them.

Crime is rampant in comparison to when? Compared to the 90's? The years of the state financed political violence, maybe?
And if it's as you lot say that CFK's government is all about handouts, who are all these new criminals? Surely those who benefits wouldn't commit more crime than before...
In the past 5 years. If you were in Argentina in the past decade you yourself would know that.

Apr 22nd, 2013 - 03:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0As Captain Poppy said, in the last 5 years, there was a huge increase in crime.
And I do not need to compare crime rates, because it's a moot point. Statistics are not useful when people live in fear.
And state-financed violence is alive and well, with La Campora, Vatayon Militante, and other associations like them.
Villas miserias are greater than ever and police officers won't go anywhere near them. Most of the petty crime, like the one I suffered, is committed by youngsters, who are not old enough to be given a handout or old enough to stand trial.
Anyway, it's pointless to argue with someone who does not even live here and does not see the day-to-day reality many Argentinians suffer.
And just to give you an example:
On Feb 18th of this year at around 6pm, I was standing in a line with many, many strangers near the Colon waiting for the bus. A gang of 5 youngsters beat and robbed an old, disabled lady who carried a purse and a nice watch and necklaces. Police were standing a mere block away and did nothing. People started yelling and screaming, but nobody chased them. Why? Because we live in fear, fear that someone is going to murder you, just to steal you your watch, fear that your house may be broken into, fear that you won't come home, fear that the police, who is supposed to protect you, does nothing and our judiciary is blind and deaf.
And just because someone is given a handout does not mean they are able to make meets end. In most cases, they are not. These handouts are given to just about anyone who is willing to show up and clap. Not to people who are in most need of them. Instead of giving handouts, they should focus in teaching people, give them a craft, something they can make a living of. But then, they would not have so many votes.
Sad thing about this it that it was the expected result. There was no logical reason to believe that CFK would be a good ruler of some sort, taking into account both hers and her husband's personal history and the way they acted in Santa Cruz Province. Many books described how they classified everyone: servant or enemy. But it is also terrifying to consider that opposing parties do not offer a viable alternative to Kircherism.

Apr 22nd, 2013 - 06:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, there are many Brits here, not just tourists but people who decided to stay. One of my friends is married to an Irish guy.
I think the reason most foreigners chose to come is because they can afford higher education here. Higher education is extremely cheap compared to most countries, especially with the currency as it is today.
There is a lot of tourism because of the euro-peso, or dollar-peso rate. It is cheap to come here, even if prices are high. Also, you don't need medical insure of any sort. You can just go to a public hospital and be admitted totally free of charge, which is something that some tourists value. It's usually quite expensive to get sick away from home.
Furthermore, Argentina has very beautiful landscapes, in the North, in Cuyo, in the South. We have ski resorts in some cities, vineyards in others, desert, glaciers, lakes. So, yeah, fortunately, tourism is quite good.
I can say that I have always enjoyed my visits. Thoguh I visit my wifes family, we do usually trek off somewhere for short periods of time. Though I can honestlky say that the buses and taxis need work.....lol Standing in a bus in Buenos Aires city is an excercise all by itself.

Don't tell me about those worthless pieces of human waste. I do not wish a coup d' etat, like many accuses us non-supporters of wanting. I just wish that CFK did something to stop corruption, crime and inflation, along with improving education and health. I have not seen any real, long-lasting improvement during her 1st and 2nd (so far) terms as President. Most of the measures and policies she and her administration pass are like a band-aid to a bleeding artery. Social exclusion is bigger than ever.
And her propaganda apparatus is huge, with Futbol Para Todos, 678, La Campora, Vatayon Militante, America, Canal 9, Diario Registrado, Pagina/12 and such.
And what I hate the most is the fact that she and her adm. have managed to turn the people one against the other. They preach hate and disunion, and it's a shame.
You cannot understand it, unless you lived here. Whether you are pro or antiK, or just like or dislike her gov, you are hated for your opinion. There is no debate, people just hate you because you support this or that.
I cannot respect someone (not talking about you, just generalizing) that likes (actually, it's more like fanaticism) her and always agrees with every measure and thinks we are doing hunky-dory and inflation, crime, poverty, unemployment, corruption are just big lies by bad, bad Clarin.
My aunt supports CFK. And we may not see eye to eye in this issue, but I respect her opinion, because she acknowledges that CFK missed the mark with several measures, and that there are issues that need serious work. Still, she choses CFK for the work she has done in some villas. She admits that our economy is in serious trouble, she does not denies the main issues that people protest again. That's why I respect her opinion. That's why I know she truly believes in CFK and it is not a minion paid to parrot opinions.

Apr 23rd, 2013 - 07:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0You are simple amazing!
You are just parroting every single word from Clarin Miente, La Destrucción, Pelotudismo Para Bobos, etc
Let’s see an example:
America 2 TV has nothing to do with the govt. in any possible way because simple the shareholders are exactly in the opposite side of the political spectrum.
Here you have the proof of that: Daniel Vila bashing Cristina for the new media law.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5tnXgN_-Io
America 2 belongs to the Vila-Manzano Group (Grupo uno)+ Francisco de Narvaez.
Vila and Manzano are ultra Menemistas.
De Narvaez also partnered in politics with PRO (Mauricio Macri) and later with Ricardo Alfonsin.
Manzano was minister of the home office (ministerio del interior) during Menem presidency and also later deputy form Mendoza. Vila and Manzano are from Mendoza and close friend of Cobos who was the man of the Group to bash Cristina during the “El Campo” conflict (Voto no positivo do you remember?).
Manzano was also the lobbyist of the multinational for the privatisation of stated owned companies in the 90, etc.
Now why Clarin Miente, La destruccion and Jorge la Grasa from “Pelotudismo Para Bobos” are selling this to people like you?
Because the 2 groups are in a fight for business share and America 2 see now a good opportunity to bash Clarin Miente showing how Clarin Miente Group and their operators invent news and political scandals just from thin air and lies.
Do you know whom owns the TV program 678, Duro de Domar, etc?
A former producer partner of Clarin Miente and America 2, they got a fight for money, etc and since then all his programs show how Clarin Group lies and make up news. Because he was working for them before and knows all tricks.
In fact his job in America 2 and Clarin Miente was to bash the government and supporters in any possible way.
Diego Gvirtz when was anti K for Clarin Miente Group.

Not at all, by they I mean the right wing brit posters. As for me, one of the reasons I DON'T want a Galtieri type ever coming back in Argentina is my British heritage and patriotism =) If I did slip up by not explaining that in sufficient detail, it was because I was running out of characters at the end of a long post; so what do you think of the rest of the post, on Captain Poppy's slipup on race?
#170 I like the sound of your aunt =) And I think most Cristina supporters will be like her. After all, it would be odd to say that poverty is hunky dory, its existence a lie from Clarin, when Cristina's whole pitch is about the fact that she cares more about fighting it and ameliorating it than the rightwing oppossition, in a country where neoliberal collapse a decade ago caused it to skyrocket. Now it doesn't sound like either you hate your aunt, or that she hates you, so I think you should remember that before you hate other K supporters or assuming they hate all anti-Ks =)

While “Clarin Miente”, “La destruccion” and satellites, etc. where saying all the time that more of 2 million people marched against Cristina. Today in the same newspaper La Destruccion in other article says that were just more than a million as you can see in the link below.
And the figure will keep falling till they found a base to make a figure credible to their readers because none can believe that.

The title of Mercopress here says 2 millions, so the people marching have increased 1 million just for crossing the River Plate to Uruguay.

Apr 23rd, 2013 - 06:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's sad that you resort to bashing media that does not agree with your point of view.
Manzano is a clear supporter of CFK, as well as a Vila. They are what we call panqueques, they support whoever is in power while bashing other to make more money and shady deals.
Diego Gvirtz is one of CFK's star producer. He is behind 678 and Duro de Domar, two of the main tv shows in the gov. propaganda apparatus.
Whatever they said or did in the past is that, in the past. It's not their view today. You just have to look at Victor Hugo Morales. 3 years ago, he talked badly about CFK and her husband whenever he could. Today, he one of CFK's most rabid supporters.
Anyway, why Clarin lies and 678 says the truth? It's clear media is not objective in Argentina.
And I do not parrot what Clarin or La Nacion say. I wish they would criticize Macri more. I call it as I see it, and seen as I DO live in Argentina, whereas you don't, I think I am more capable than you to see what is going on in my own country.
Many like me don't criticize CFK for giving handouts, we criticize her gov. because is really corrupt, blind and deaf. It's a populist gov more concerned in gaining votes today by passing short-term (and short-sighted) policies than in building a stable economy, or educating people.
Many are outraged also because her cabinet is full with ill-prepared people who commit blunder after blunder. A minister cannot say that protesting citizens should shut the eff up and insert their pots in their behinds. Moreno said so live during an interview. Timerman, who is Jewish, signed the agreement with Iran to not prosecute the Iranians responsible for the AMIA (Jewish association) bombing. And these are just 2 examples of far too many blunders.

Not heard about Moreno's outburst, which sounds passionate and vigorous though I'm surprised mercopress hasn't made a negative story out of it if true! We'll have to agree to disagree on Timerman.
I really do feel she governs by hate and fear. They preach one thing, and do exactly the opposite.
I have never voted for someone that won lol, so I was never a supporter of CFK. I won't say who I voted for, but lets juts say I am not a Peronist. I actually did like Nestor K's govt. from 03 to 06. He passed good measures, but measures that were meant to be short-term and ended up in place for far too long.
I liked very few things about CFK's govt. The fact is that we Argentinian live in a fake economy (so to speak). It's part pesos, part US dollars. Inflation is very, very high and the govt. does not do anything to curve it. Public health and public education are in terrible state. In the Gran Buenos Aires, CFK and Scioli commit a HUGE blunder in 08 concerning the public hospitals that directly depend on the province (instead of being municipal). Supposedly they bought CAT scan machines for 10 hospital. They did not. They paraded one CAT scan machine from hospital to hospital and then, they took it back. We, the people who live in Almirante Brown, are very aware of this. Clarin did not report it. Neither did La Nacion. We know it because we saw it.
Another example of a blunder was when CFK said that only rich people get diabetes, because they can afford more food and they are couch-potatoes.
I do not think I will ever change my mind about CFK. I really do feel she will go down on the books as one of Argentina's worst Presidents.
I am absolutely and genuinely shocked at the deceit!!!
Apr 24th, 2013 - 01:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0@188 My uncle once told me that during the Menem years fake hospitals were built. These hospitals looked like the real deal, but were actually completely hollow and only used for parades. The Argentinian government is nothing more than a propaganda outlet that steals taxpayer's money.

Apr 24th, 2013 - 03:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, that's true. Unfortunately, it wasn't only Menem who did it. Many hospital and schools were/are just facades and the buildings are ruined. It's a shame that money was/is spent in propaganda and big inaguration acts instead of being spent in what's actually important.
187 CarolaLSB (#) Hear hear Carola. Do you remember the opening of Resistencia airport? all the announcement screens etc.? and the moment that woman left everything was removed and taken on to another location.
Apr 24th, 2013 - 04:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0In the USA when people get so fed up and move to change things, they call it a grassroots movement.....from the people up. I really hope the people of Argentina can continue to gather steam to have a positive effect on today's lower house vote and the midterms. No country is without some corruption, but Argentina seems to take government corruption to a new level. I wish more of the average Argentine citizens can come here and speak to the supporters of Kirchner that live everywhere BUT Argentina.
Apr 24th, 2013 - 10:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Good luck today. BK should be writing back telling you that you all are wrong and that Christina is beautiful and brilliant, or he will fade away if too many Argentine's start posting anti Kirchner posts.
CKK dispenses largesse to the poor who are sheep and will continue to vote for her. Here day is coming and she will eventually be deposed
Apr 24th, 2013 - 11:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0#187 Interesting that the CAT scanner scandal was Scioli, and I imagine he was far more to blame than Cristina, maybe another reason she says he's inept; and another reason that rightwinger shouldn't be President! As for the diabetes quote, it sounds like she said something sensible and true, that more rich people suffer from it for these reasons, and its been twisted into her saying only...
Apr 24th, 2013 - 11:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0#189-191 Well of course, if true (and I have serious dobts!), thats not good, reminds me of the Potemkin villages built for Catherine the Great. Who was, nevertheless, brilliant and beautiful!
THE WEAKNESS OF THE OPONENT PARTIES.
Apr 24th, 2013 - 01:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0According to the interpretation that many journalists and politicians make, in relation to the last protests against c. f. k.'s govt., those people protested because they were worried about insecurity, corruption, inflation, and asked for an independence justice too.
If the protestors really cared about having more security, they wouldn't adress their demand to c. f. k. only, they should adress the same demands to the different governors too. In the case of capital federal, the protestors should have asked their intendant mauricio macri for more security, because according to our constitution, public security is a responsability of the governors.
On the other hand, if they really cared about fighting against corruption, they wouldn't criticise the corruption cases that involve c. f. k's govt. only, they should criticise also the corruption cases that involve maurcio macri's govt. However, when i see that the critics are adresssed to c. f. k. only, then i realize that most them don't have any genuine concern about those issues, they are just making a hypocrite manipulation, in order to criticise a govt. which doesn't concide with their ideological postures.
In reference to the claim for an independence justice, if they really cared about it, they would manifest that justice must be independent not just from the govt., but from the corporations too, however none of them said absolutly anything in relation to the legal protection that the clarin group could get, thanks to it's entaills with the most corporative sectors of justice, in order to not to comply with the new broadcast law, sanctioned in 2009.
I wasn't born yesterday in order to believe that the protestors were concerned about the issues i mentioned, actually their manifestations are acts of desperation, with the purpose of demanding the weak oponent politic parties to form an ample politic party, in order to confront against national govt. in 2015.

She confuse local govt. with national govt because the media say so.
I remember when I was living in Italy that many Italians have no Idea who was their president in fact I don't even remember now who was. Because most of the news in Italy were about Calcio or to criticise other countries like Britain. ha ha

I protested against CFK and against Scioli. I don't like Scioli any better than I like CFK. Both are inept thieves.

Carola , I see that they stole the judiciary this morning. A bullet to her head is the only chance now.
Apr 25th, 2013 - 03:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Now we see why there is so much unrest in Argentina. eleven million estimated to be on the poverty line. These individuals are living on what equates to a dollar a day. In my money about 64 pence
Apr 25th, 2013 - 03:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0How is this allowed to happen? Why have the people not been able to do something about it?.
The answer is simple. Control by a dictator who fills their heads with lies and they are made believe it is true. This is human right abuse at it's worst . yet CFK refuses to help them. On top of that she wants my home. I see no why because she wants to deny me my luxury life style because she is jealous.
She has been so involved with the Falkland Dispute she has totally ignored her own people.
By 2016 China might also become the world's largest economy.
Apr 25th, 2013 - 04:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apparently the UCR made a pact with the Kirchnerists to make some changes to one of the laws passed by the government. They still voted against it, which is why the K revealed this dirty secret. This and the support of the Socialists to the K media law in 2009 (who actually voted for it) shows that there is no true opposition in Argentina. Too bad the people don´t realize it. The problem in Argentina is with the entire political elite, and it won´t be until all the current politicians die of old age that anything will get fixed. Even then, from all the Kirchnerist youth, I doubt the next generation will be any better than this one.

Apr 25th, 2013 - 05:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I have to disagree. Violence is never the answer.
Unfortunately, the Congress is filled with inept and corrupt people who pass express bills on such important matters, while other bills of law have been freezed for years. I hope that the govt. will not be able to continue with this unconstitutional law, as under the Arg. law, the Constitution prevails over any law, and nothing can go against it.

Apr 25th, 2013 - 09:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It would not be so easy for any President to alter the Constitution. But then again, this govt. has not been known for fair play.
I am hoping this reform of the judiciary will appealed, as it directly goes against many articles in the Const.

It has been known to happen. That why we call people like him panqueques. Every govt. has bought votes and support, some more scandalously than others.
@204 the votes from two thirds of Congress is required for a new Constitution. CFK doesn´t have those votes even with all her allies and they need a miracle to happen to win enough votes in October to get enough deputies and senators. CFK won´t get reelected, but she´ll look for someone from her own ranks who is inept enough to replace her. That is, if she doesn´t try anything funny. Who knows?
Apr 25th, 2013 - 09:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#204 Yes and why not? The US Constitution has been ammended enough times. At least Argentina and the US have written constitutions, unlike some...
Apr 26th, 2013 - 12:13 am - Link - Report abuse 017 times of which 75% of states need to ratify the federal suggest amendment. And it it never down in an overnight session. Only two with respect to power......22nd restricting terms and the 25th defining succession.
Apr 26th, 2013 - 12:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0That doesn't make sense, if only 17 times, is that the 22nd and 25th of 17 then???
Apr 26th, 2013 - 01:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 027 amendments in the USA Constitution.....look it up. Oh yeah, btw, the first ten, The Bill of Rights were ratified altogether. 10+17 =27 ammendments. Even wikipedia might have that correct.
Apr 26th, 2013 - 03:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Perhaps you are confusing general laws with our Consitution.
#212 Technically that makes 18, bill of rights plus other 17 =) And there's been talk of others, hasn't there; one of the few things I agree with Arnie on is that he should have the right to stand...
Apr 26th, 2013 - 08:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There is always talk but the process is meant to be difficult without a tre majority wanting it to be passed.
Apr 26th, 2013 - 09:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 01-The bill is introduced in the house and sends it to the Senate
2-Senate aproves it and sends it to the President to sign
These two steps both takes 2/3s of each house to approve.
3-After the President signs it, the amendent is sent to the state legislative bodies (state are soverign bodies in the USA) to pass. 75% of the states must approve for the amendment to become ratified.
The believe is that a simple majority should not be a reasonable measure to pass an amendment.
I have no idea who or what arnie is

Apr 27th, 2013 - 12:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0POTUS I suspect.
BK is under the delusion that any POTUS has real power!
But a lame duck like this one is stymied in what he can achieve.
That is what I was thinking. I will always feel the head of any state should be a natural citizen, but that's my opinion. The only heads of state with absolute power are in countries like Syria, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Democrtic Republic of Algeria, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and of course the Democratic Republic of Argentina.......all these democratic countries.
Apr 27th, 2013 - 03:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You are correct that a lame duck POTUS can be stymied, but conversely, he has not concerns for reelections in what he can try. One thing our constitution provides to POTUS is......Executive orders. That can be quite powerful and far reaching.
#218 Yes POTUS, we may be more on the same wavelength than we'd like to think =) Btw I don't think POTUS has absolute power, or even an apropriate amount of power vis a vis corporate interests for an elected official, but I certainly think he does indeed have ANY power...as Bush proved, to the dissadvantage of the world!
Apr 27th, 2013 - 09:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You know BK, life can really suck when you start a fight with someone bigger than you, even when they only use a fraction of their capabilities. But it really wonlt matter much, the future is without reliance on middle eastern oil, we are handing the torch to China. Their addiction will far out weight the USA's as the USA's demand will be met domestically.
Apr 28th, 2013 - 01:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0You never made you point about arnie......only about him standing. If you mean you think he should be allowed to run for president, you can always lobby a 27th amendment.
