President-elect Horacio Cartes is one of Paraguay's wealthiest men with businesses in tobacco, finance, farming, retail and the soft drinks industry among others. Brash and ambitious, Cartes had never voted before joining the conservative Colorado Party in 2009. Read full article

Hahahahahaha!!!
I have no qualms about agreeing with you Stevie, Think, BK or whoever on this. This guy is bad news for Paraguay. However Maduro is still bad news for Venezuela. And CFK , the luxury hotel and NYC penthouse owning 'woman of the people' and her fellow money laundering uber rich cronies are bad news for Argentina.

Apr 22nd, 2013 - 02:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Agreed, sounds like a right nutter. But hey, it's South America.
I waited the whole night to reply to Stevie . I knew exactly what the in house genius would say and he did . So sorry Stevie a right winger won . Well done Paraguayans ! In the first place would the DEA allow a drug dealer to open a bottling plant in the USA and allow the owner to be there for the opening ? Secondly , a court found him innocent of financial misconduct . ( I know that legalities mean nothing to lefties , Castros and Mujica the proof ) .
Apr 22nd, 2013 - 02:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The proof of the pie is in the eating . 46 percent of the presidential vote . 43 percent in the Senate and 51 percent in Deputies . I am sure that the genius will now say it was all rigged ! Sorry sweetie there were more than 500 observers here! Pity they did not go to Venezuela first , especially Unasur !
Nice dawn for Paraguay . Now let us ignore our neighbours and get on with the job of reducing poverty , improving education and health coverage .By the way , Stevie , President Kirchner has already congratulated the winner. In very eloquent terms may I add .
I waited the whole night for this . Thanks Stevie for making my day with your stupid comments . Viva Paraguay !

Apr 22nd, 2013 - 02:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0President Kirchner has already congratulated the winner. In very eloquent terms may I add .
Yes she has been very quick to be seen to be mending fences.
Do you think Paraguay will want back in MS?
Are any political or business groups lobbying to stay out?
He won't be considered a member if the club until he has made a public statement on his support for Argentina over the Falklands, she will consider this as mandatory before she agrees on Paraguay's return to Mercosur. And it will happen during his first meeting with the old hag.
Apr 22nd, 2013 - 03:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 05 Condorito . Good question . I would say that the business community would consider it useful to remain in Mercosur , mainly because this is a landlocked country and we import a lot from Mercosur. Cartes has said that we should rejoin the club but he may condition the re entry terms . You must remember that this country considered their ousting to be illegal . And they added insult to injury by allowing Venezuela in ! Many remember the Triple Alliance war . Same players but different script so negotiations will need to be handled with some care .
Apr 22nd, 2013 - 03:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I will not repeat Mujica' s incredible remark on what he thinks about laws ! Or his insults to the Colorado senators who now will run the country .
Paraguay , a poor country true , but with pride .
Unasur with it's Iranian, Russian & Chinese buddies were very quick in recognizing Maduro in a very close vote......let's see how quick they are in joining Cartes for his inauguration
Apr 22nd, 2013 - 03:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Talk about S.American solidarity..... No lo creo!!!
8 manchesterlad . Nice one . We are patient . Triple alliance , Bolivia war ! Here they do not like Iran or Castro .

And a millionaire.
Those are famous for bringing equality and removing poverty, aren't they?
Not that poverty is a big issue in Paraguay...
A true representation of the Guaraníes.... or?...

Apr 22nd, 2013 - 07:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'd rather have a shady businessman who will help countless of people through the filter down effect than a lawyer who takes suitcases full of money out of the country which helps no one but herself!!!

Proof is, I WAS wrong...
After that, you declared your sexuality twice a day up until New Years Eve (I might be exaggerating.
Please, don't hide behind the rainbow flag.
If I have issues with you, it's not with every gay man.
It's with you, and it has little to do with you being gay.
