The rate of poverty in Argentina dropped to 5.4% last year and indigence was down to 1.5%, according to data released by the controversial government’s stats office, Indec. A person ceases to be indigent in Argentina if he can feed on 6 Pesos daily, which based on the official rate is just over one dollar but in the parallel market 75 US cents. Read full article

The villas are an inherited problem, it's not like the suddenly appeared after CFK took office.

Those people are the very same ones you lot accuse of taking handouts and being unemployable.

    The hypocrisy is never ending.

Stop acting as if you cared a bit for Argentinas poor ones, you don't bloody care about your own ones and still you try to use it to fit your arguments.

    @6
I think it just astonishment that you have a president that prefers to devote most of her time trying to acquire someone else's home, when she clearly cannot look after her own home.
Mind you, when you look at beautiful windswept beauty of the Falkland Islands and their safe well constructed homes in comparison to this dirty festering sweat pit, I can see why she has such envy.

Britworker I don't know if you've ever seen those villas, they are amazing that they are still standing. When you come in BA from the airport, the highway drives right past them. Cider blocks piled three stories high, most only have three sides to each floor. Some actually have pools on the top floor!!! The life of Riley. He is the real scary part. They themselves just “tap” into the powerlines for electricity, when wires are hanging everywhere! The places are a life hazard to everyone living there. Nothing like seeing a barefoot 7 year old girl on 9 de Julio Ave by the Oblisk begging at the lights on an 14 lane avenue because momma sends them out there. BUT......those are the Victory Front's votes.
steverina's comeback to everything is always, “don't act like you care” is getting old.

It's your hypocrisy that is getting old. When talking about Argentina, you use the poor as an example for the mistakes of the governors.
When talking ieologies, you take the same poor ones and call them unemployable and receivers of handouts.

So, Argentina should do something about her poor population, but not help them economically, as they would be taking handouts. Nor can they employ them, them bieng unemployable.

You are just being silly and using arguments as they fit you.

Villa Lugano, full of lady boys who venture out each night as Cartoneros to scrape a living. 6 Pesos a day is pretty average. Thats less than $1 a day, just about the same as the poorer African and Asian hellholes. And, this is what is on offer for the Falklands? Didn't enjoy my time there, grateful to get out..

The ones that get the biggest shaft are the children in these communities. All the welfare is being given to lazy adults that can vote. If the kids should end up being orphans, which happens, the non-profit organizations receive minimal funding from the government that usually doesn't even keep the lights on.

Even then, some of these charity organizations receive some private funding, but still manage to squeeze out as much as they can for themselves, and under-invest in the kids. These realities don't end up in the news, and this article doesn't even scratch the surface. You have to see it for yourself.

I don't have the necesary academic knowledge in order to affirm wether indec or private statistics lie or tell the truth about the social situation in argentina, in fact, i don't think that many of the people who often post their comments here, and who enjoy insulting argentina, or predicting future economic and social disasters have the neceserary knowledge either.
Although the 26% published by uca were true, what is omited in this report, as it isually happens, every time is published a report about poverty in argentina, is that in 2003 when nestor kirchner took office, there was a 53% of poor people, so, it means that despite all the serious problems that we still have, the social situation of the country could improve so much.
It's necesary to indicate that in 2003, ther was not any suspition of manipulaton of statistics by indec, suspitions started in 2007.

and i would of thought the solution to any problem is transparency, something argentinas government run and hide from behind INDEC.

    @Stevie

Maybe if the Argentine 'government' spent as much time and effort on building a way out for these people in the slums instead of its obsession with 'democratising' the judicial and media systems and its expansionist FI agenda, running away from the 'vulture funds', fiddling with economic figures, scaring off foreign investment and generally being irresponsible blaming everyone else for its problems etc etc then in more than a decade of Kirchnerism real changes would have been seen. Argentina is one of the luckiest countries in the world for resources and opportunity. Whose fault is it that millions of Argentines live in unsafe cramped houses with scrap sheet metal roofs in dangerous, depressing barrios? At the very least youd have to say K-ism has failed to reduce the problem whilst unabashedly crowing on about the wonders of 'The Model'. Many of us here have seen the problem with our own eyes.

Argentinas population in the 70's were some 25M.
    Today it's about 40M.
That's an increase of 37.5% or 67% more people today than back in the 70's, all depending of how you want to play with statistics.
The villas have also increased in size, but in percentages, they have decreased.
There are not 67% more people living in the villas today, than there were in the 70's. In BA, that would mean 3M times 1.67, which would give 5M people.

Hence, poverty had decreased, even if the actual numbers are larger today.
It also means there are much more people eating every day than there was in the 70's. And if you count those in numbers, like you do with the villas, your argument fails too.

Um, I think you are leaving out the vast majority of Missions, how about some of the provinces? There is MASS poverty in Salta, Jujuy, Missiones, etc yet INDEC thinks there is NONE.
I don't know about the 70s, I didn't even know Argentina existed then. I do knwo when I moved there about a decade ago the slums were much much smaller, there were less beggars in the streets, less homeless, less kids juggling, less garbage piled up, less sidewalks broken, less crime I CAN SEE IT WITH MY OWN EYES!

There are probably millions of Peruvian, Bolivians, Uruguayans and Brazilians who came to Argentina for the better and now find themselves homeless and poor. Those same immigrants now have DNI's and are probably the ones that voted for CFk along with other stupid humble folks. What I'm tying to say is that most of the poor folks are immigrants. Another way you can tell it isn't Buenos Aires is the vegetation: way to “chlorophylic” to be mid-latitude decidious, seasonal folliage. Those trees are equatorial or tropical, nothing like the trees in Buenos Aires.

    51. And the 2nd photograph? Looks like BA to me.

The slum is alienated from the rest of Buenos Aires not only culturally, but economically. Only 65 percent of the homes have running water, which is usually provided by jerry-rigged connections of doubtful hygienic quality, according to Fernández Castro. Informal sewers feed into the rainwater runoff system, flooding areas with contaminated water after heavy rain. Population density reaches 33,000 people per square mile, or more than five times that of the formal city.

No wonder you don't see anything wrong with what Mercopress tried to do with that first picture (they coudn't find such a “panoramic” picture of slums in BA, because there aren't any slums that are so broad... so they figure they just paste one from another city... heck who cares right?).

Well honestly, I am NYC born and raised......so I have to say yes, However, I have never seen a ram shackled, shoddy salpped to gether place like villa 31 and any of the others. We have poor and poverty in our country and I would take being in poverty in the USA over poor or working poor then in Argentina. Though I have to say that using utube to make an argument is up the with constitutions written on pesos like in Argentina. The things to trolls that live in Euope, yet LOVE Argentina do not understand that our definition of poverty is far from theirs. Theirs is absolute poverty. Of course they believe little, being they have absolutely faith in the UN, considering they always are blowing the UN ou=t their ass about the Falklands, they should read up the the UN's list of poverty.

There is an old SA maxin......yes, he steals, be he does good too......lol. Interesting article. I like Nielson

What are you doing in front of your computer...go..run for dollars to protect your savings.

My dear friends, CFK economic plan is so successful that in the BCRA the dollars disappeared and his quotation exploded .. yesterday the rate was AR$ 8.94 per dollar and noow (at this time) it is AR$ 9.12. The evolution of the Argentine peso is the best example of Argentine “success”.

DBerger, don't forget that theory tells than the collapse of the Argentine peso is not related with poverty within the country..

No matter the reality in front of their eyes. Nazis such as DBerger or El Think will keep on forecasting the collapse of USA, Europe, the dollar and the pound...

Islanders .. do you want to be part of Argentina? It is really fun to be ruled by CFK...

Yul, I lived in Detroit, the suburbs of beautiful! The city has been run by Progressives since the 1960, progressives are like Peronists. They've ruined what was once a beautiful prosperous city. All the rich people left and there wasn't anyone left to tax.
It is the shining example of why that belief system is a total failure.

Regular people, I mean those who live from their job, or run a bussiness, have already started to panic. I talked over the phone with my brother half an hour ago and he is extremenly worried.
He runs a small familiy bussiness and he is in trouble to pay the salaries of the employees and the invoices of the suppliers. Not to mention the taxes and services.

It's quite an explosive situation. The fact is that the BCRA has not dollar to invest in slow down the increase of the value of the dollar. It's quite a situation.

It's sad for me to see how honest people will to have to face another crisis.

Captain Pooper the Philosopher Inspector found dead

AP - (hacked tweet) - SOMEWHERE IN THE GHETTO - Captain Pooper, a regular of the pseudo-news website Mercopress, an outfit whose goal is the destruction, partition, or ruin of the country of Argentina, was found dead early thursday morning. His ematiated body was located in the “Argentina” section of the website.

According to the autopsy, he died of malnutrition. Captain Pooper had stated he would quit his day job to become a philosopher and to bring out those who used multiple ID's in the website. Unfortunately for him, he was miserable at both jobs thus went unpaid for months.

He never realized that John Troll the 3rd always uses one nick, respects the rules of the forum, and that it was members of his own faction of argie-haters who created countless clones of “Truth Telling Troll”, “Tobias”, “Nostrolldamus the 13th”, ”John III (Pope)“, ”Arifu“, ”George Tsoukalos”, etc, etc. As they say, imitation is the ultimate form of flattery. Multiple imitators must thus be the most omnipotent form.

    RIP.

So you cut the bottom half off of the picture at the top of this thread then paste it onto the bottom of a pic of Canary Wharf and claim the result is a pic of London slums.

You certainly are some sort of dimwit - did you think no one would notice?

@113 Sorry? British Army 138,500 regular and territorial + 121,800 regular reserve. Argie “army” part of 73,100 active + 31,240 paramilitary! Those figures are the TOTAL argie armed forces.
    Royal Navy - 98 ships + 61 Royal Marines landing craft + 170 FAA aircraft. RN personnel - 35,250 regular + 2,570 volunteer reserve + 26,520 regular reserves. Argie “navy” - 42 ships (that includes the 1 that sank) + 43 aircraft.
And we do have a carrier. Two in fact. Both currently used as helicopter carriers. And soon we'll have two more. Big ones.
What planes? Do you mean air force planes? The RAF has 827 aircraft. Also 41,900 regular and auxiliary personnel + 33,380 regular reserves.
Argie “air force” has 177 aircraft.
But if we have to fight again, we'll try to keep it fair. We'll send some Girl Guides. Do you think 5 troops will be enough?
Lots of money, thanks. And a much better economy than argieland. And “privatising” Royal Mail is not the same as closing it.
Oh, that 0.3% growth in our economy? Gloat over this - http://en.mercopress.com/2013/04/26/argentina-industrial-production-down-in-march-and-in-first-quarter-compared-to-2012

So next time you decide to issue some dumbass “comment”, try thinking how easy it is to show you what an uneducated, brainwashed fool you are. Just look at those figures. Including reserves, the British Armed Forces total 435,170 personnel. And argies? 104,340. Less than a quarter of ours. Ships is obvious. Aircraft? More than a thousand. The Army Air Corps isn't included above. It has 203 aircraft. So, 1,200. And you argies have 321 TOTAL. Seems like we have 4 times as much of everything. Except for inflation. Ours is 2.8%. Yours is 10 times that!

Couple of words for you take on board. RESEARCH and COMPREHENSION.

Don't worry this is the typical Peronsita attitude. If something goes wrong internally either outside the country it goes even worse or it is a consequence of the imperialism. You migh not know them but this is 100% peronisim !!!

So if argentine pesos is plunging, dollar or british pounds will plunge soon. If the argentine economy is collapsing, the world would collapse soon...

I live en Vancouver and I have never saw a shanty town here.

The sad thing is the people who rules Argentina right now are a bunch of oligarchs (with USD millions in their account outside the country) who are looting the country for their benefits on account of poor people.

    1 USD = AR$ 9.20 right now...tomorrow..who knows !!!

There is a term for it: “Willful Ignorance”

Its essentially the situation where somebody refuses to use the tools available to them, such as the internet, to discover the truth - they want to remain ignorant as they are happy in that state.

Ignorance, despite what el Thinko & SockPuppet friends suggest, is not in and of itself anything “wrong” or shameful....

willful ignorance, a state in which Think keeps himself, and folks like Stevie & DanyBurger exemplify, is.

Whenever you see them ignoring openly available and undisputed historical documentation to continue to support an undocumented and factual incorrect historical version in Argentine history teaching.... and one just cant believe that people actually WANT to keep themselves in that state of willful ignorance.

The Peronist movement as a whole seems to rely upon it as its bible.

And who told you that these people living in the Slums in Argentina are Argentines?

So a Paki living 20 years in UK is not British but a Peruvian, Chilean, Paraguayan, Bolivian, etc. illegal become automatically Argentine when put his feet on Argentina’s soil?

You ask for precision to distinguish illegal immigrants in UK but you don’t even bother to ask the same in Argentina.

Well boy, the people living in shantytowns in Argentina mostly are from Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile and other neighbouring countries that makes the 80% of the shanty towns population and mostly part of the illegal immigration in Argentina from the ’90.

Generous Argentina provides then with free health care, work and they occupy state land owned and they are not expulsed like will be in Europe or US.

Here Peruvian TV station collecting complains from illegal Peruvian immigrants that cannot buy official dollar to send to Perú and mostly are thinking to go other countries like Chile, etc.

Sure Chile will solve Peruvian’s currency problem to send greenbacks to Perú as they have better aligned economy with US.

    So DanyBerger

Have you backed off from your claim that this is in London?
    s4.postimg.org/ogqj6ouwd/Great_Britain_slums.jpg

C'mon stand by your convictions. Real or fake? (Doubtful you will answer).

So homeless people on drugs or with mental health issues in Canada means it has a slum problem like Argentina?

Recent immigrants (whether legal or not) living in shoddily converted garages in London backyards means it has a slum problem like Argentina?

DanyBerger you have a severe inability to CRITICALLY THINK. It is painfully obvious that your education finished somewhere towards the middle of high school.

Now. Are 200 people living in tents a slum? Is this really comparable to the hundreds of thousands living in villas miserias in Argentina?

It talks of 7,000 homeless and yet doesn't source the fact. What is the definition of homelessness? If someone sleeps on my couch for a week they are homeless according to statistics in my country.

Do converted garages in West London with plumbing and electricity compare to villas miserias? They're converted illegally but the land they are on is owned by those that did the conversion. These British “slums” are positively middle class for some countries.

However bad news sells and the word slum has such shock value precisely for ill-educated people like you that can't CRITICALLY THINK.

'Sheds with beds' is what they're called. And there's an estimated 10.000 of them in London and the Home Counties. Here's a picture of these “slums”
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2049676/Welcome-Slums-Southall-How-unscrupulous-landlords-illegally-built-squalid-homes-immigrants.html

Now Google villas miserias buenos aires and compare the two. Let me help you:
    * 800-900 slums
    * over 60% are older than 15 years
    * several million inhabitants
    * nearly 90% have no access to the sewerage system
    * most inhabitants are Argentinean

    CRITICALLY THINK Dany my boy.

I bet asslips prays for an earthquake because she will never do anything for them.

    @Anglotino

If you would be smart you would realised that the pic is fake. The reason I posted it? Because this article previously showed a pic with slums from other country with mountain in the back showed as it is was Buenos Aires to make its point about poverty in Argentina.

In a previous article about poverty I saw long time ago they were showed pics from Brazil with “Morros” in the back.

Buenos Aires has not mountain anywhere because it is flat and full of tall buildings.

In a large city like Buenos Aires 50k living in slums is much less than 17.500 in little London just in the west.

Buenos Aires it is really a huge city so you cannot compare London with Buenos Aires to start with.
The slum of villa 31 it is just like a couple of landlords in UK having illegal in the back

Now lets see, you introduced Canada into the debate. Vancouver ranks as one of best city to live in, right?

    Aaah Dany

I told you to think CRITICALLY and all you could do was prove your educational attainment,

You posted a fake pic. Thanks for admitting it.

“Buenos Aires it is really a huge city so you cannot compare London with Buenos Aires to start with”

We shouldn’t compare though that is all you ever do? Here is how you discuss the article by constantly comparing:

    Post 62 – US, UK
    Post 104 - US
    Post 109 – US
    Post 113 – UK
    Post 116 – UK
    Post 131 – US, UK
    Post 135 – UK, Chile
    Post 147 – Canada, Australia

But now we can’t compare BsAs with London? Supposedly because it’s “a really huge city”.

Population of London metropolitan area: ~15 million
Population of BsAs metropolitan area: ~13 million

“In a large city like Buenos Aires 50k living in slums is much less than 17.500 in little London just in the west”

50,000 slum dwellers in BsAs? WTF! Do you even know how to do research?

Villa 21-24 in Barracas within the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires ALONE has 50,000 people.

What about the other 20-3o slums within the Autonomous City? Let alone the greater metropolitan area?

    http://www.estudiosurbanos.uc.cl/2011/10/en-cinco-anos-se-han-instalado-90-nuevas-“villas-miseria”-en-el-conurbano-de-la-capital-argentina/

RESEARCH! The people living in the villas miserias are not thanking your for ignoring them.

    As for Australia.

Their GOVERNMENT BUILT house was being renovated by the GOVERNMENT. GOVERNMENT housing is comparable to no housing? Living in a tent during a renovation is comparable to people spending decades living in a villa miseria?

I own up to my country’s problems. We have a huge issue with Aboriginal welfare. Australia’s entire indigenous population is probably the same size as the number of ALL slum dwellers in greater BsAs.

Governments belatedly realised the system is not working and changed
    http://www.estudiosurbanos.uc.cl/2011/10/en-cinco-anos-se-han-instalado-90-nuevas-“villas-miseria”-en-el-conurbano-de-la-capital-argentina/

    @Anglotino

15 millions are you crazy or what?

The total population of London city it is just 7.400 people.
City of London plus great London 3.231.900 people
Total London as a region including out side London 8.173.900 people.
Source Table P04 2011 Census Office for National Statistics UK govt (ONS).

While metropolitan area of Buenos Aires it is more than 15 millions and the total population of the Buenos Aires Region it is over 18 millions.

Can you see the little difference?

But I was not talking about just population otherwise size. Anyway doesn’t matter.

You have ever been in London and not either Buenos Aires. Am I right?

“50,000 slum dwellers in BsAs? WTF! Do you even know how to do research?”
Nope its is 50k people in a slums not 50k slums, Villa 31 for example it is always the example cited.

Lets assume that the shitty info you have its right so 2.5 million live in shantytown in Argentina. Better off for you I will put all that people living only in Buenos Aires.

That makes 0nly 14% of the population of Buenos Aires (remember that I included all in Buenos Aires)

Also the type of La Destruccion and Clarin Miente include state council housing as slums. Well if you would know UK you would know that its full of that. Why don’t you count its?

    Like in Australia
    New modern slums in Australia

So next time try to be precise, would you please?

    Oh Dany

You have to stop making yourself look silly.

You keep limiting what defines London’s metropolitan region but even when you do your statistics don’t make BsAs look any better.

You talk about being precise but seem unable to actually be precise.

I never said it was 50,000 slums – meaning each slum has 50,000 according to you. I said

“Villa 21-24 in Barracas within the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires ALONE has 50,000 people.”

    One slum!!!!!!

I then asked you about the 20-30 other slums.

But you seem to think that 2.5 million people living in slums is better compared to what?

10,000 sheds with beds in London?

Let’s squeeze 10 people into each of these. Only 100,000 potential slum-dwellers? Let’s squeeze 100 in shall we and then we can have a million.

Too precise? Because that is just an absolutely farcical statistic.

All of London's supposed slum dwellers would fit in to Villa 21-24.

But then according to you, because some government built housing in La Destruccion and Clarin Miente exists, then all government built housing in the UK is therefore a slum.

    CRITICAL THINKING dude!

You keep changing tact whenever your find you’ve backed yourself into a corner.

“New modern slums in Australia” on Youtube!

Today Tonight! PMSL! Oh please stop….. I can hardly breathe from your sheer stupidity.

Today Tonight!!!!! News of the World of journalism in Oz.

    LOL

So now because landlords are squeezing international students into small apartments then there is a growing slum problem in Oz.

So according to your definition the following are slums:
    - villas miserias
    - people living in detached rooms in backyards or room additions
    - anyone in social housing
    - crowded apartments

So using your definition what is the slum population of BsAs now? I’d have to say that it is a hell of a lot higher than 14% now.

BsAs is probably getting up to 40—50% using your definitions.

You are making my argument for me.

Who said I was from Latin America? Why are you racist?

    You as always wrong. Sorry

    @ Anglotino

I told you mate. You are not more idiot because you lack of training.

These figures are provided by ONS. Do you know what its is?

“But you seem to think that 2.5 million people living in slums is better compared to what?”

Just compared with West London, then you have to figure out how much of these kind of slums are in the rest of London like the east. That BTW it is more poor than the west. I have to clarify that because you have never been in London.

“10,000 sheds with beds in London?”
Nope 17.500 just in west London then you have to multiply for the rest of shitty places in London. And I can tell you that there are a lot of shitty places outside London.

London has a lot of places full of public housing what in Argentina are called “Monoblocks” and they are counted by Clarin Miente as slums like Villa Lugano

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw-NOAlIqiw

    Or Fuerte Apache slum
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw-NOAlIqiw

Can you see? Looks like US, Canada and UK even the music its quite similar.

    Sticky isn’t it?

Brit slums, I can tell you that the argies ones look much better.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw-NOAlIqiw

“All of London's supposed slum dwellers would fit in to Villa 21-24.”

Nope because you forgot to count state council slums in UK. So why you are counting it in Argentina and not in UK?

“But then according to you, because some government built housing in La Destruccion and Clarin Miente exists, then all government built housing in the UK is therefore a slum.”

I’m using the same criteria if villa Lugano its a slum for clarin Miente the same would be in UK.

“So now because landlords are squeezing international students into small apartments then there is a growing slum problem in Oz.”

Sorry this is a slum anyone can tell you that.

Slum definition “A heavily populated urban area characterised by substandard housing and
    Squalor”

    Any further question?

  • Anglotino

    Oh Dany

Your so cute when you rely.

Well I gotta go to work so no long reply.

But a couple of questions and facts:

So now a slum is a shitty place? Gawd even more of Argentina is a slum.

How do you know I haven't lived in London. Careful here!

One crowded apartment in an apartment complex creates “heavily populated urban area characterised by substandard housing and squalor”

So now most of BsAs is a slum?

So here's a good question! What makes a heavily populated urban area?

Is it 18 million people in 5,000 km2 or is it
    4.2 million in 9,000 km2?

You keep widening the definition of a slum to cover more and more of Argentina!

They have plenty of slums in Europe.
The difference is that they provide the inhabitants with a massive concrete block, the same ones you would use to build a prison, and they remove the bars.

Then they fill them with immigrants, alcoholics, drug addicts and local people that “falls out of the system”.

They live in the same shit conditions as any poor in any part of the world. With

    No inclusion
    No future
    No health
    No hope
    No improvement
    No possibilities
    No one gives a damn

    @160 - Stevie

So you're going for the whataboutery means of trying to divert the thread from the fact that a quarter (give or take) of Argentina's population live in poverty.

Yes Europe has poor people, show me one country in the world that doesn't, but being poor in Europe isn't the same as being poor in Argentina.

Benefits for poor people in the EU are exceptionally generous when compared to many other countries.

Gangs and Crime - well Argentina's crime rates are so bad that the government don't even bother to report them anymore. And why should they? They have control of the majority of the countries media (that freedom and democracy Argentine style in action) so why bother to tell the truth to the people?

Drugs and alcohol? Well I don't believe that there is a country in the world that doesn't have some problems in that regard, and in South and Central America the Drug Cartels massacre people, including law enforcement officers with impunity.

Stevie, people who live in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones. Or if you prefer Jesus' version: let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone.

    We have cantegriles too.
Only difference between our cantegriles and your concrete jungles, is the prison without bars exchanged for the cardboard house with sheet roof.

The benefits in Europe are precisely enough to pay for the rent of the prison without bars and the individual habit, and you well know it.

“being poor in Europe isn't the same as being poor in Argentina.”

BTW I was seeing in recent days Melconian jumping from radio station to TV channels not missing any opportunity to talk about the dollar rise as he was concern about people savings. Since long time ago he was doing this.

Well the idiot it is just lobbing to create expectation over people and then who do you think will sell the dollar a 10? Yeah his clients, friends and him. Expecting for govt intervention and saturation for the informal dollar market so they will buy the same dollar back but a cheaper price. “Empome” is called in the city.

Oops! Sad news poverty in Australia seems to be even worse than I thought.

“The figure includes nearly 600,000 children, many who go to school without breakfast or lunch and suffer from social isolation.

In a separate report, Anglicare Australia found three in four families also struggle to put enough food on the table and 1 in 10 children sometimes miss school because their families feel guilty for not providing adequate food.

“A wealthy country such as ours can, and should, do better to ensure that everyone is afforded an adequate standard of living,” she said.

“It is a fundamental human right.”

News.com.au this week talked to a 65-year old man from Sydney who has been unable to find full-time work over the last 15 years since he was seriously injured by a workplace assault...”

“Chris receives $410 a week from the disability pension and rental assistance. He spends most of it on private rental although he's been on a housing commission waiting list for 10 years.”

““I keep myself going on a daily basis and I don't know why.”

Mr Novak told news.com.au how his weekly budget breaks down.

    -Rent: $200
    -Car (petrol, insurance, etc): $58
    -General bills: $56
    -Electricity/phone: $48
    -Groceries: $50
    -Clothing: $5
    -Medication: $2.90
    -Entertainment: $1.50

Question. And what kind of entertainment can you get for $1.5 in Down under?

Total: $421,4 and $1685,6 per month and living in poverty.

Minimum wage for a full time job in Australia $606.40 per week so its is $2425,6 at month

A poor need $1685.6 to survive a full worker is $740 richer wow.

And what the hell can you do with $740 in expensive Australia? Where a middle class house cost more than a million dollar on these days?

    I guess not much.

ok, i am form Argentina, i will tell you the truth. This article is a lie. Poverty in Argentina is probably around 55 %, not only 27%. This is only because of the super-corrupt government and stupid people that vote them. What we have to deal with everyday is: prices raising EVERYday, severely high crime rates (mostly homicides), daily blackouts, dangerous mass transit transport due to lack of investment, millions of immigrants from bolivia, peru, paraguay that bring even more crime and chaos (lack of border controls), poor people that think they have the “right” to steal from you because you studied and have a job while all they did in their lives was use drugs so they receive money from government which isn't enough for them to get all the drugs they want, and many other things i could say, but the worst of all is of course having to listen to the most stupid president in the world ( probably only seconded by chavez) saying lies all the time and believing she made the country “first world” and making it the most autocratic she can. By the way i love the UK i have a friend there and they are very nice people, it is a beautiful country, i love their accent and simplicity, the culture, etc, argentines should learn many things from them.

Typical of a Kirchnerist, fascist or communist. “In Germany the 2nd bigger country in the west after US some people live in extreme poverty and not having enough income to meet basics needs as food.” You clearly lack proper language use. You don't even understand what you write. Your english is so very well polished you should be teaching at Harvard. As i translate this, you are saying Germany is the biggEST country in the west hemisphere after the US? you are quite wrong. If you mean size, you forgot about at least Canada, Brazil and Argentina. And if you mean population, you forgot about Brazil and Mexico. HATEDUMBS.
Can you provide the sources to support what you say in relation to the soposed 55% of poverty that we have, according to what you expressed in your post 178, or what you typed was just a personal opinion?. Beyond your reactionary and discriminatory expressions, if you don't have any respect, you can't discuss about anything.
Your reasons to reject c. f. k's government are as respectable as the reasons of the 54,11% of people who voted her.
I don't think that you are stupid for not having voted her, and i don't think either that you are being paid in order to criticise her policies.
Your politic ideas are just your personal choices, which are as respectable as mine. However, there are always reactionary people who have such a mediocre thought like your's who consider people who voted c. f. k. like lazy people who recieve some statal money to vote for government, or idiots who don't know what they do. It's actually the tipical reactionary comment of many sectors of the middle class, who often estigmatize poor people, but actually many of them don't have any idea about the reality of the poorest sectors of the society.
If you are so critic of what you consider like lazy people who receive some statal help, let me tell you that like it or not, you'll find lazy and hard working people in all the social sectors of the society.
On the other hand, if you think that c. f. k. said that we are in first world, is because actually you have never listened to her. She has never said such a stupid thing, in fact, like it or not, despite the tipical omisions that she and all the rest of the politcians usually commit, she often emphasizes in the 35% of workers who are undocumented. Beside, she always says that the true way to finish with poverty is not a subside, but a formal job, subsides are just a necesary social protection.
