Speaking to friends in Argentina and reading the press it appears Lanata made a very good case supported by considerable evidence. Enough evidence to send CFK into a frenzy to gain control of the judiciary. She knows.

Uruguayan authorities have looked into the case and they confirm Lanata's case is, I quote,
“muy débil y debería ser enriquecido con más elementos.”
translates into
”very weak, and should be supplied with more elements (of evidence)”.
@Stevie And how much did Kirchner pay Uruguayan authorities to say that? Jorge Lanata is an excellent journalist and Kirchner knows it.

Many years ago when I first started visiting Argentina I used to ask people why they accepted the government was corrupt. The answer was that all politicians and officials are corrupt, it was just accepted. They didn't protest about it because back then they thought their lives were improving, they had food on the table and were getting by. It's called 'happathy'. People will put up with a lot when they don't feel a problem directly affects them.
A lot has changed in the years since and now people are not happy. They are struggling to get by and the two major concerns they have, inflation and insecurity, are not the main focus of their government. So they are turning against the government and a crazy leader obsessed with a mythical fairy tale. Her approval rating has plummeted as has the standard of living of the majority. Now they do care that she is corrupt because she has become the villain.

Its one thing to have an opinion but when these shows try to pose as balanced, broadcasting the universal truth that makes them even more pathetic. I have no idea if CFK and her government are corrupt, but until I see proofs I will not judge them.

And, no, the corruption in Argentina is not like in the UK. There is corruption in all societies but the level of corruption varies considerable. Argentina is right up there with the trophy holders regarding high levels of corruption. It is endemic throughout society there.

Apr 29th, 2013 - 02:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It started with the money needed to buy our house and although I had set up accounts in BROU the year before IN PERSON, BROU insisted that my International money dealer (the best in the UK) investigate MY UK BANK before they would accept them onto the accredited role held by BROU under the anti-money laundering Laws of Uruguay.
THEN my money dealer each time they move money from the various accounts I have MUST give an undertaking that the moneys are from my account ONLY. BROU provided a ‘secret number’ (I think they mean a number assigned to these transfers) which MUST be present in a location specified on the transfer document.
The first few times it took BROU more than a week to process their end of the transfer and put the money into one of my BROU accounts. After two years of moving my three times a year transfer of my pensions and other income we are down to three days. It does of course cost me nearly USD 100 for BROU’s diligence and paying the money to my account EACH TIME THEY DO IT!
I have NEVER experienced this level of investigation of the source of money in other countries I have moved money to or out off. Perhaps it’s just another hidden tax that Uruguay is very good at.
Still a great country though. :o)

The “valijero”, Leonardo Fariña, andthe “cuevista”, Elaskar, were the ones who mentioned Uruguay as the first step in the laundry chain, they said, and at least one Urugayan newspaper/TV show has obtained proof of that Mr. Fariña took bags of Euros to Uruguay and from there sent the money on to Panama, Belize, and finally Switzerland.
Now it is up to the Argentine, Uruguayan, Panamanian and Belizean Judiciaries to investigate whether the money laundering took place or not. The Swiss have already frozen Lázaro Baez's accounts because they appear to accept that the accusations are true!!!!!
I'm talking about Lanata and his accusations of money laudrying made in Uruguay.

Having taken control of the media, disrupted her opposition and made a personal family fortune, she is now aiming at the Judiciary.
Stevie thinks that if this guy had any proof he should go to the Judiciary - parts of which she already controls and has already used to amass her fortune and political power.
If he doesnt do that he must be lying. QED.

I remember driving through Belfast in the days of fire-gutted cars and row-houses in the poor neighbourhoods (Catholic), the soldiers in every doorway, the Checkpoints, the barricades. The family car damaged as the family business was bombed.
In spite of all this, it was sectarian violence and apart from searches in the bigger shops, it was 'business as usual'.
'Kneecapping' was not directed at regular civilians or tourists.
There's still religious hatred, but things have changed since the 70's.

Jorge lanata used to be a great journalist for any years, some of his investigations were excellent, in fact, he was one of the few jornalists who were brave enough in order to criticise the corruption cases that involve the clarin group, mostly in relation to papel prensa.
However, since he has been hired by that group, he has became into a decadent hypocrite who makes reports only in relation to the corruption cases that involve c. f. k's govt., but he doesn't say absolutly anything in reference to the corruption cases that involve the government of opponent politic parties, especially mauricio macri, who is one of the politic partners of the clarin group.
In reference to his programmes, many of his reports are usually full of lies, and most them are often refuted with solid sources by the programmes that support c. f. k.'s government. If may of you prefer believing what this hypocrite says, i respect it, but unfortunatelly you'll be buying just mediatic operations.
Respecting the soposed 80% of the media that the govt. controlls. It is one of his usuall idiot arguments, but he doesn't say that while it is true that many chanels and radios support c. f. k's govt., they all are nothing if you compared them with the power of the clarin group which represents the 53% of thee media in the country, beside, it has 250 licences of radio and tv in the whole country.
On the other hand, before being hired by the clarin group, lanata was one of the main supporters of the new broadcast law sanctioned in 2009, which doesn't allow the oligopolic concentration, but now he doesn't say anything about it. The new law allows no more than 25 licences for all the mediatic corporations, however the clarin group could get all the injuctions that it wanted, thanks to the entaills that it has with the most corporative sector of the justice, in order to not to comply with the new law.

Lanata is NOT obligated to criticise Macri or anyone else, in order to criticise CFK.
Certainly, it is more significant that the President is attempting to control the media, by statute, than a minor story of the usual mud-slinging between your politicians.
Interesting that you note Lanata was a great journalist, but ceased to be when he wrote negative things about CFK!
Argentina is a huge country, a large number of media outlets would be required to provide national service.
250 licences reduced to 25 would reduce the size of Ckarin by 90%, yet government outlets owned ostensibly by various companies would easily shout down CLARIN by unopposed broadcasting of government messages and propaganda.

The new broadcast law aims to reduce the hight oligopolic concentration that we have in the country. I would like to know how are the regulations in the u. k., in order to avoid oligopolic concentrations.
In the case of the u. s. a., if a busssienss man owns a chanel, he can't own a newspaper.
In argentina, owning a chanel, and a newspaper by the same person is not forbiden, in fact, the clarin group owns not just 250 licences along the country, but also the largest spanish spoken newspaper of the world.

But since 2008, i have started to realize that it's not reliable anymore, the mediatc operations that those newspapers usually do, are refuted with solid arguments and sources by programmes that support c. f. k's govt. Anyway, i don't need those programmes in order to realize that those newspapers are not reliable, when i hear cristina's statements, and after i read what is published in some of those newspapers, i can see that they often distort what she says, or make a shamefull manipulation of her words. You can reject as much as you like what i say, i'ts your problem, but unfortunatlly you'll continue having a too partial view about argentina's situation.
You are mixing freedom of press, with mediatic operations. I don't think you are neather stupid nor ignorant. I'm sure that you know that what you said was actually a distorted interpretation of what freedom of expression really is, especially if i had told you previouslly that those newspapers lie. However you need this kind of stupid arguments, in order to continue rejecting a government that you don't like. It would be good for you to find better arguments, if you are so detractor of c. f. k's policies.

Yes, we have that here too, multi-generational welfare families - no role model for being responsible and employed.
They become used to being at home - maybe 'babysitting' under the table etc., but eventually, mainstream employment cramps their lifestyle.
At the same time, we also have legitimate, noble “working-poor”, struggling families where the parent(s) work three low-paying jobs to give their children what they need, and just barely eke out a living!
I have a lot of respect for them - we have the highest urban property values in Canada, and people with families that cannot break through the “glass ceiling” of Minimum Wage.

After WW2 my father (with his bullet wound in his leg) worked as a miner and then got a better job in a gas works. My mother would not go back to work until I went to school so SHE could look after me and that was a part time job in a printing factory which meant she was always there for ME.
So I grew up with a work ethic which seems totally missing from a large section of the population today, without getting into the 'my dads wealthy I can laze about syndrome' which you also see.
That's why I left the UK: it's bollocks.
