UK Minister for Europe David Lidington has warned that an escalation of tension with Spain in the waters row could damage Gibraltar’s prosperity and wider UK interests and pointed out that the incursions were not “an armed attack or invasion” and that the response to them must be proportionate. ”Physical confrontation on the waters would only serve to jeopardise the safety of those involved.”

So it's okay for Spanish civil guards to kidnap people, because it's safer than fighting back. That is not how you deal with bullies, and everyone knows that.

And as for the safety of civil guards, they gave that up the first time they kidnapped someone. All incursions should be treated as attempted Kidnapping from now on.

The Spanish are being very silly here, their resorts rely heavily on British tourists, they have way more to lose in this situation than we do. Self-destruction seems to be an ibero/Latin character trait.
British tourists should dump Spain for Greece on mass, the Greeks are lovely people.

Spanish people are mainly unemployed and uneducated savages, so expecting them to not do savagery when you live next to them is kind of putting one's head in the sand.

The minister is quite right, responses should be proportionate. Spain deserves people's pity because like their South American offspring are culturally unable to create a economically viable country. The last thing they need is a big stick to stir up their nest.

Lidington is a cowardly fool. I have written to my MP. The protection of Gibraltar and its people are UN-mandated. By all means let's make our response “proportionate”. Arrest all illegal entrants to BGTW. Seize all vessels or other water craft. Minimum sentence for illegal entry? 5 years. Breaking rocks down to sand. No remission. Seized vessels or other water craft? Put to Gibraltar government use or tow them out to the limit of BGTW and then burn or explode them. Respond to uncivilised savagery with...........!

    ... dignity.

You don't become a complete savage in order to beat a savage, you simply build adequate defenses and ignore the savage until they wither like a weed. That's what the Gibraltans need to do with the Spanish, and the Falklanders should do with the Argentines.

Let's hope this Conservative amoeba ever gets the Falklands within his remit if this is his stance to unprovoked attacks by the likes of Spain, the cowards champion.

It's not cowardice, he's simply calling for a measured and proportionate response to Spanish belligerence.

The Spanish aren't going to suddenly get less savage, and getting into some kind of increasing spiral of response is a ridiculous idea. Better to just ignore them as best you can, and not get involved in any of their silliness.

Then when they do go too far, you can quickly cut off their hands, metaphorically... and return to doing what you were doing without much concern.

Let me clear my thoughts a little for you.

It is Spain who are the cowards champions, the conservative is just a cabbage that the Falklands have no need of.

@5 Let''s explain something to you. If you are out in the playground and the local bully comes to you with his “demands” (an argie term), the correct response is to kick his balls off and, whilst a nerve connection remains, stamp on them until they are flat. This teaches the bully (who is unintelligent and subnormal) to sod off. Responding “with dignity” is OK for the intelligent. This can lead to discussions where each side recognises the other's position and principles. The current Spanish PP “government” is, by definition, unintelligent, subnormal, irresponsible, unprincipled, criminal and terrorist. In other words, no different to corrupt, larcenous, mendacious argieland. What you DON'T do is to just defend. Actually, the best form of defence is attack. Or, more appropriately, turn any potential belligerents into grease spots.

This is extremely sensible. It turns two unnecessary “states” into the final condition of being unnecessary. Surely it is right to ask what these two “states” have done for the world and humanity? How is genocide and religious persecution FOR humanity and the world? HOW is murder and human burning FOR humanity and the world? HOW is 21st century imperialism FOR humanity?

But there is an option! Wiping argieland off the face of the planet would show latinos that they need to be educated, intelligent and responsible. Perhaps, if they learn quickly enough, Spain might survive. But, at the end of the day, who needs latinos? Latino = no brain, too much dick and, as appropriate, fly-apart thighs. I do wish I could visit Spain more often these days. “I'm a farmer. Can I plough your furrow?” Ten years and most “Spaniards” could be “proper” people. Of course, argieland is a “bastard” strain. Best if it's completely weeded. What's a weed? A plant where you don't want it.
@10 You're quite right. It isn't true that “Spanish people are mainly unemployed and uneducated savages,” Some have work. Some are intelligent. But they are trying!

You are concerned with the economies of Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. That is rather quaint and touching of you.

It must be unsettling however, having to live in a real imploding economic disaster area that is the Argentine. All the sweeter in the knowledge that you as a cheerleader, it is all being achieved under the misrule of the KFC clique and her ragged regime.

Go and wave a flag for Pinocho de la Casa Rosada. She loves you for your simple unquestioning nitwittery.

UK Minister for Europe David Lidington

Have I not said this before?

    Never trust politicians,
It’s not in THEIR interest, sod the people,

This idiot will now send signals to Spain that it is ok to take the piss,
Because nothing but nothing must interfere with our friendship,
    Be warned all British territories,

The day we get out of Europe will be the day Britain can once again stand proud,
Instead of someone’s bloody little puppy.

    @briton

May be Lidington knows what the rest of the world also knows but you that the UK is broken and the state of the army is deplorable and any conflict will sink Britain even faster into a financial collapse.

So better to look like the new buffoon in town that to have serious military conflict that will make looks Greece as a joke.

    Think about it...

“The day we get out of Europe will be the day Britain can once again stand proud,”

The day you get out of EU you will be simple ruined because a little Island like UK cannot survive along in the world of giants.

Yes the world's 6th largest economy can't survive on it's own.... how does Argentina with an economy that isn't even in the top 30 any longer survive in this so called “world of giants”?

And let's not compare military capacity...... how often are British ships sinking while in dock?

    bashing the brits,

and yet amazingly this tiny weeny little island is still big enough and powerfull enough to stop the worlds 8th largest country from intimidating an even smaller little tiny island,
    Are we not.
