News this week that Argentina had decided to undertake fisheries research in the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is not connected in any way to the Falklands, Acting Governor Sandra Tyler-Haywood has assured. Read full article
Looks like Argentine has been out-played again. Other members will surely realize Argentina had attempted to co-opt the organization into its would be South Atlantic land- grabbing, in clear violation of the organization's own procedures and the convention itself.
Unless within the Territorial Limits she would not be in British waters as such. RRS James Clark Ross- port of registry- Port Stanley, flies the Falklands Flag.
Yup- zero points to Arg in this one - neatly cancelled by smart Br diplomatic peaceful action within CCAMLAR.
When this old tub gets back to Argentina (if it does) I confidently predict that they will announce to the world that they have discovered the wreck of HMS Invincible whilst fighting off at least three British nuclear subs and being bombed by a squadron of Vulcans
If the only action the Argentines can take to achieve their dreams of a 1000 year Malvinas reich, is not informing the British authorities of the cruise then they're not getting anywhere.
Knowing the Argies they'll simply sail around them a few times... sellotape a piece of metal to a rock ... then sail back to Argentina in order to play the video on loop.

Should what you say be correct, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, it means that an Organisation of the Government of Argentina has recognized the authority of the FIG. Something he RG's have failed to do before.
As you say a Diplomatic coup.
It must have really pissed orf the RGs to see a ship like the JCR when they were on their 33 year old bit of Jap junk... which still has to get back to RGland. If it does that without breaking down, burning, running aground, creating a pollution incident or being arrested that will be the first in quite some time.
As far as I can tell, this never even made the news in the UK! More evidence that argieland is no more than an occasional annoyance. Not even an inconvenience!
Best part is that we have a Falkland Islands flagged and registered ship stopping, boarding, and inspecting this grubby little act of RG provocation. Bet that no public statements are made about that in the Casa Rosada
