Jose Ignacio Landaluce, the ruling Spanish Popular Party MP and Mayor of Algeciras, said that the Queen’s message of support for Gibraltar (and Falklands) was greeted with “surprise and considerable discomfort” in Spain. His was the only reaction from any Spanish official to a statement that was warmly welcomed in Gibraltar. Read full article

May 11th, 2013 - 05:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0Perhaps they should deal with the crippling level of unemployment first?
May 11th, 2013 - 06:30 am - Link - Report abuse 0Perhaps they are trying an 'Argentina' by diverting attention away from their 26%+ unemployment and collapsed economy with something that in the grand scheme of things shouldn't even be discussed when they have such major problems at home.
May 11th, 2013 - 07:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0It's just the same as Argentina, when it has serious internal problems (like right now) it starts its rhetoric and bullying of the peaceful people of the Falkland Island's.........
Received it with surprise and 'discomfort'?

May 11th, 2013 - 09:39 am - Link - Report abuse 0An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from the Kingdom of Castile in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession on behalf of the Habsburg pretender to the Spanish throne. The territory was subsequently ceded to Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
Now then, I have used my mad internet skillz to look up the meaning of:- in perpetuity and Yahoo says that it means :-
endless or indefinitely long duration or existence; eternity.
So this spanish turd can stick it up his ar*e and f**k off while he's doing it.
Not enough room, his head is firmly lodged up there!

May 11th, 2013 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Spain should focus more on becoming a truly democratic nation and allow the Catalans to hold a vote, this is what separates Britain from the likes of Argentina and Spain, we will allow a vote, its called democratic rights something we have in the UK but sadly not in Spain, China nor Argentina.
Lets not forget this was a dictatorship nation as early as the 1970s
Viva Franco!

May 11th, 2013 - 02:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Britain broke the terms of the Treaty of Utrecht long ago by permitting Moors and Jews to settle in Gibraltar. This was banned under the Treaty. However, not even Franco was willing to try to reclaim the territory on that basis.
Suprised..?Soooooooooooooooo very amused by these Latino's and their hysterics they really dont seem to get it...They really are having a bad year, what with both Barca and Real Madrid turfed out of the Champions league cup, mass unemployment, inflation etc etc.Who the hell would want to join them.Just what is it that Spain and Argentina have in common..?lol...

You can see where the argies get their cowardly ways from though.
Spain. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. The small, useless, faggot-end of Europe. Overweening pretensions. Okay against natives with bows and arrows. Useless against a real nation. Like England. What a pity about France. Being the greater danger, it had to be destroyed first. And we forgot about Spain. Still. Next time.

One of those is twinned with Montevideo dontchyaknow? titteryeenot.
Writing this post from Orihuela, Murcia, I can catagorically state that the Spanish people here have no interest whatsoever in Gibraltar. The whole issue has been brought about by a failing and unpopular government clutching at anything it can to divert attention from its massive internal problems, just like another Spanish speaking mess of a country we all know.
May 11th, 2013 - 08:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If the Brits dropped Spain as a holiday destination, they would be utterly fooked here, they rely massively on UK tourism.

Nice one Islode, exposing Spanish colonialism.
And Spain-try reading the Treaty of Utrecht-like Argentina-spouts off a lot of manufactured turd instead of reading history/the wording of treaties.
Let's help Spain and Argentina off, repeat after me please, A, B, C, D ,E (etc).

Says a lot.
Consider Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands. Note their proximity to Morocco and argentine justifications for its claims. So,these territories belong to Morocco. Why doesn't Spain give them up? Imperialism, colonialism, shittism?

May 12th, 2013 - 06:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But we heard on the grape vine,
The leaders of Argentina and Spain were seen in a drug boozed up cellar
Crying and shouting anti hate messages abt Britain.
Apparently they both know that the only victory they will ever ever achieve is when they finally resign or drop dead…
Just saying like ??
