In an interview with the Spanish government news agency EFE, Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica said Argentina’s economic “autarkic project” “worsens” bilateral ties and “multiplies” trade troubles. Still, he ruled out pressures on Buenos Aires; “they won’t work,” he insisted. Read full article

Instead of building strong supply chains that will make the region more competitive, Mercosur members isolate themselves from each other more and more.

So, the old hag is now autarkic! Does this man think that name calling is a credible foreign policy.
Who is he bringing up to date that Argentina is protectionist? I think that Spain might already know this as they helped themselves to one if their companies last year.

What South America desperately needs is guidance
In the right direction, by the right person,

Someone to admire and look up to,
Someone who will lead them to the never land,
A strong person who will lead them and show them the way to paradise,

That policy could never work in Argentina, every single one of their big employers and companies are owned by Int'l firms.
They don't' produce anything they invented.
RGs are merely beasts of burden for UK USA EU companies.

A solution Mr. Uruguay would be Anschluss.

The new capital would be Montevideo, which I readily admit is less corrupt. or a new capital somewhere in the middle of Uruguay which is lightly populated and has clement winters (instead of of somewhere in Patagonia as originally proposed).

Revert the name back to Federated Provinces of the South.

@11 Of course! Why didn't we think of that? Another example of argieland “reclaiming” its previous territory. But “Anschluss” means “annexation”. Or, in other words, theft under threat. You can't do that! You have condemned Britain/UK for annexation. So how can you do it? How about a different solution? Shoot every argie that tries to cross the border. Take every unit of argie currency in Uruguay. That's it. Just take it. Pay no attention to agreements,“ laws” or anything like that. Argies don't. And end all Uruguayan relations with argieland. Just a blank wall. Especially important to concentrate military assets in appropriate places. Argies will become desperate and ready to abandon democratic, diplomatic and peaceful solutions. Be ready to turn their “alternative” solution into crushed metal and corpses. Don't be concerned. Only argies slugs. Ideal fertiliser.

I am sure neither The Dark Country OR Brasil would be acceptable to Uruguay as our 'ruler'.

The Uruguayo have been independent for that long now it just would not work.

Brasil has Portuguese as its language which is so far removed from the Latin based Espanol as to be an impassable barrier apart from the North of the country.

Also the presidents job in Brasil is unmanageable and could not cope with Uruguay.

The Dark Country is just a non-starter.

Yes Chris, the problem is: Uruguay speak spanish. Our Sacramento Colony is lost in time. Uruguay never more will be part to Brazil. We are portuguese. The language is a great frontier. Our country never will be bi-language. Brazil is Brazil, not spanish..........NEVER!!!

@18 That's good. Brazil will always be the same. Very briefly, it managed to get its GDP to exceed that of the UK. Just think of that. A HUGE country in South America managed to be “better” than a tiny island in the North Atlantic. Now it's back to where it belongs. Third-rate. Dragged around by a fourth-rate failing dictatorship. Brazil will NEVER be of global significance! It's sufficiently “latino” to be pointless.

I have stated many times Argentina should butt out of the Falklands.

That is the difference between honest people (me), and low-lives (you). I am consistent in my views and apply them to myself if I apply them to others.

Both of you on the other hand scream “butt out of the Falklands”, but gladly support the UK's unrequested involvement in several world affairs, and Cameron's insolence at the G20 when mentioning Argentina's trade policies. Why don't you people butt out?

@13 Are you crazy? Uruguay does not deserve such fate. Back in time, Brazilians protested against Collor's corruption and influenced his impeachment, years later gave Lula a re-election after mensalao - with big smile! It's getting worse and worse and I rather adopt Uruguay policies and make people learn Spanish as a second language (Portuguese is an irrelevant language, liking or not). Growing inflation, corruption, violence, inept public service, attempts of controling judiciary, a shameful foreign policy, cracking infrastructure and broken contracts. Add terrorists attack and the country is pretty much like it was back in 1960, pre-revolution time. The things a Lee Kuan Yew could do to Brazil and the rest of Latam...

Honest huh? How many names have you used on here now?

...and did you ever answer my question about your ethnic origin?

Unlike most posters on here I actually sort of like you and I am quite aware of your consistent stance on the Falklands. However, like all Falkland Islanders I am also British and you are also very consistent with your hatred of Britain. So my empathy towards you only goes so far.

@22 So sorry. Me no speak gibberish used by poor people. You also need to work on your English. You seem to be trying to turn it into gibberish. Try to remember that we're better than you are. After all, it was people from our part of the world that sailed south and found you. You didn't sail north and find us!
@24 “our continent is catholic”. If that is supposed to be a boast, forget it. It's nothing to be proud of. Looking back over history, the catholic church seems to have mostly been concerned with making money. Or stealing it. Then, its nasty habits of torturing people and thinking up more inventive ways of murdering them. Then, of course, most of your “priests” seem to be paedophiles. Even in the current century!
@38 I see that you do understand. In a civilised society, such as England, religious practitioners tend to be referred to as “ministers”. It's because they “minister” to people's spiritual needs. “Priest” is generally a dirty word these days. Now that there is more and more evidence of what catholic priests are like. Greedy bum-shaggers, the lot of them!
@41 Tried them all out, have you? Found one that fits?
@43 Have you tried to get an education? The United Kingdom is a PERMANENT member of the Security Council of the United Nations. Therefore it has a DUTY to get involved in all sorts of things. And how is argielands criminal “trade” activities not our business? It's the difference between a fifth-rate, third world criminal state and a first-rate, first world enforcement authority. That's why, just like a policeman, we have the equipment to enforce our requirements and you don't. Because we are trusted and you aren't. You must try to understand that belligerence, corruption, criminality, depravity, genocide, ignorance, larceny, mendacity, perversion, selfishness and xenophobia are not admirable qualities.
You need to work on honesty, reasonability and compromise. You also need to piss off. Even better, try to make yourselves extinct.

“Every time we turned tough with Argentina, we lost”

Strange then every time the UK has been soft/friendly with Argentina they've got kicked but what seems to work for the UK is being tough-but then Uruguay is a smaller country than Argentina and therefore ripe for being bullied. I guess Argentina thought larger landmass/aggression against an inferior force counted in 1982.

They picked on the wrong country.
