We all know that a trade agreement with the EU and Mercosur is not going to happen, well, it will get close, then Argentina will say ”no we don't want it unless the UK hands over the Malvinas. There will have to be decades more discussion and a total end of Peronism in Argentina for this to happen, perhaps Criustina's government will bring an end to Peronism in RG land, perhaps people will get just so sick of it - well - here's hoping!

If Mujica wants Spains help for Mercosur,s relationship with the E.U. he had
better have a word with C.F.K. about paying for Y.P.F.
Also about the keeping of International law.

Uruguay as a very tiny and unimportant member of Mercosur, you seemed to have not realised that what you want is not really that important. It is what Brazil and Argentina and now Venezuela want.

Within the the Pacific Alliance however, you would be free to negotiate your own free trade agreement with whomever you wished; including the EU.

Are you telling me that we aren't getting what we want in Mercosur?
Please educate me, what exactly are we missing out on, Anglolatino?
    What is being us denied?
Railroads? Windmill farms? Deep sea ports? Regasification plants?

Or are you worried about our quantity of toilet paper?

Don't ask EU mambers, Muj., the blockage is in Mercosur.
Come on Muj., twist the testicles of the recalcitrant!

Its what Brazil want.... Argentina is a boil on their backsides and has no real influence.

Venezuela is just the current mad-dog of SA, having taken over, temporarily it seems, from Argentina.

No doubt that the incumbent Dogo Argentino is desperate to get herself back as top bitch in that category, but she's struggling.

    @1

Peronism has nothing to do with Argentina NEVER signing anything again with a corrupt, cheating European nation, whichever it may be.

You have broken hundreds of treaties since 1492 in the Americas. You have set your reputation now live with it.

Argentina wants nothing to do with Europe.

    Stevie.

Seems Uruguay is currently being denied free trade with the EU.

Doesnt seem to be a problem in the Pacific Alliance.

    Next dumbass question please.

    Mmmmm.
I've tried to make a list of the treaties broken by the Brits. in the Americas.
    I need some help here, #8 TroLLey_to_Truth.
The closest I can get is when the 'British' Americans broke their 'homeland' links, leading the American War of Independence.
Also Mary Crow Dog had a beef with the American government and its soldiery over the treaties with the Amerindians.
But were these *Europeans* that broke these various treaties? And/or: were they real treaties? ... Palmares? Hispaniola?

Just give me, say, ten examples out of the 'hundreds' to which you allude.

I guess that most treaties broken in 'latinamerica' will have been broken by latinos.
Some may be recorded by their historic country of origin - eg. Spain, Portugal, Angola etc., but my guess is that most treaty-breakers were born in the Americas.

You pose an interesting question: 'When is a European not a European?'
Perhaps the answer is: 'When they were born in the Americas'

    Anglolatino
Is Uruguay being denied free trade with the EU, you say?
And by Mercosur, I would assume?

Last time I checked, the restrictions came from EU, protecting its agricultural market...
That is exactly what Pepe is trying to tell the Europeans, if we can't sell our stuff in Europe, we'll just sell it somewhere else.
But don't expect us to buy anything either...
    Especially not your mouthcrap.

For once I agree with Stevie and Nostril.

Europe shouldnt sign anything with Mercosur, Anus-sore, or any of the other ridiculous names they call themselves. It should recommend a new body before in Latam.

-Nations Of America Ready to Grow, Innovate, Engineer and Succeed (NO ARGIES).

Seriously though, signing genuinely mutually beneficial trade agreements with Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, Mexico, Honduras, Belize etc (I.e. the countries that would honour them) is and would be a massive step forward.

There is no way that “pariah” governments such as Argentina, Venezuala, Bolivia, Peru, Nicaragua and the like should be trusted, or as Nostril insists, traded with at all. let China have them.

Of course Uruguay is at a crossroads, it seems like they can be sensible, but seem shit scared of Argentina, and of course Stevie would be a poor ambassador for a den of mass murderers let alone a nation state.

Definately, the message back to Mercosur would be, we are interested but leave the insane lunatic fringe at the gate.

So you agree Stevie that Mujica wants a free trade with the EU but one doesn't exist.

Not an issue in the Pacific Alliance where some EU trade deals were started AND completed in the time Mercosur has been negotiating.

Uruguay is welcome to sell its wares wherever it wants, but unfortunately can't negotiate its own preferential trade deals though.

Funny you always stand up for Uruguay and yet here you are standing up for Mercosur. Mercosur is a straight jacket to Uruguay.

If you wish to blame the EU, then so be it. However the obstinance of the EU didn't seem to be a problem for Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.

Mujica is right to ask for more action from Spain . After it is the Mother country and understands the region . The problem , however , is complex . Argentina will not accept any deal , as Rousseff discovered during her last visit to Buenos Aires . The EU now want clarification of Paraguay' s position in Mercosur . Is it a member or not . The current economic mess in Europe , in particular the Euro zone , tends to concentrate the mind on internal problems !

No Anglotino, I think Uruguay should deal with the EU as a bloc, mainly because the distances, environmental issues and protection of the local production. As for China, it's mainly a ideological matter, we need the Investment to further develop our energy sector, infrastructure and heavy industry. And for the first time in our history does trade bring us that opportunity. USA and Europe has 180 years to be less protectionists and give a hand. For greedy reasons they failed to do so.
Today we may gain from free trade, but there will come a day when our neighbours are doing better us and then I personally don't want to see Uruguay by itself. You can't pick and choose, Anglotino, one has to stick to ones values.

“We share everything with Europe, with Spain with Galicia from where so many families came to Uruguay,“

    A transplanted population.

”we want to avoid the big panda bear hugging us…China is so big, so powerful and growing”.

At least he can see what's coming
