Disclaimer & comment rulesI really hope that Argentina manages to unlock this potential, ad that the wealth generated from it is used to the benefit of their society.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 01:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This could be the opportunity to get Argentina back on the straight and narrow, it would certainly allow options...
Stay with corrupt fascist regimes, and go the way of Venezuala, or use the wealth to become the world player Argentina should always have been.
Hopes and fears.
of course should they become successful, there would be no need for the malvinas deception and they could drop the brainwashing of their masses.
Forlorn hope perhaps.
It's there but how the hell they going to get it out?
Jun 12th, 2013 - 03:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Who the hell is going to risk investing the amounts needed?
Apache, EOG, Exxon-Mobil, Total and YPF apparently.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 04:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina is right in its approach...keep the big slice for Argentina.
All the time in the world to get the stuff out, if private a corp want to help out fine, if not someone else will.
technically recoverable shale oil reserves of 27 billion barrels :)
sweeeet
@1 the potential is there but it won´t be used. The Peronists are too powerful. Either the corporations or the Peronists, or both, will take all the money leaving the people with nothing. And even IF we´re successful I don´t think we´ll ever drop Malvinas. The people don´t want to forgive the British even for stuff that didn´t happen.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 04:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 03. Except there has been plenty of unexplored o/g for DECADES in Argentina, yet no one is knocking down the door. How many other countries have to go out and beg for exploration?
Jun 12th, 2013 - 04:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0None that I can think of
The O/G isn't going anywhere and they can wait until CFK is in the ground before they commit any U$ to that black hole of a country.
As Vestige said, it's better to hold your cards.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 05:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We can be a world powerhouse in agriculture. We can be a world powerhouse in minerals. We can be a world powerhouse in oil. We can be a world powerhouse in wine. We can be a world powerhouse in tourism. We can be world powerhouse in fishing. We can be a world powerhouse in industry if we recover our old education institutions and recover a culture of respecting learning.
But it's better to just keep all that on tap.
We can be, we can be, we can be, we can be!
Jun 12th, 2013 - 07:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Stop bloody weeing and do something about it for Christ sake.
Keep it on tap my back side, just more bloody pathetic excuses.

Jun 12th, 2013 - 09:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0and never will be
I bet it will be many years for ANY of this to come to fruition IF EVER.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 10:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The argie governments just cannot stop themselves from meddling and fucking everything up. Can't see that changing as long as there is a Peronista in power.
So, basically, you are all bollocksed! Oh Dear, never mind.
All that potential sitting in the ground going nowhere. Kirchner can ruin a wet dream. Put her out of your misery Argentina.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 10:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think it is very nice of the squatter Latin population in (Ahem) 'Argentina' to leave the natural resources in the ground.
Jun 12th, 2013 - 11:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0After all, by their logic it belongs to the indiginous population that they have swamped...and when the UN finally listens to Argentina, these Latins will lose any voting rights and get booted out of the country that the indiginous population never invited them to in the first place.
I wonder if the Falklanders will have good relations with this bit of SA once the plastic Spaniards have been sent packing?

We can be a world powerhouse in industry if we recover our old education institutions and recover a culture of respecting learning.
But aren't. And no where near as innovative as my country.
What a sad list you created. Nice of you to save it all for some future population and not squander it on this current corrupt government and apathetic people.
But it's better to just keep all that on tap.
Jun 13th, 2013 - 10:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Kind of reminds me of a starving man with a closet full of canned foods and not can opener. Yes........leave it all on tap for when a real government leads Argentina.
It takes a lot of work to mess up a country like Argentina, a lot of rules, regulations and taxes to take a country so full of potential and turn it into a basket case. I fear that this shale will sit there as it will not be economic to extract it, and no one would dare invest in that country.
Jun 18th, 2013 - 01:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The only things that needs to change are the prevailing and controlling ideas in the country. Start with ensuring: The rule of law; respect for private property; sound money; freedom of capital movements; low taxation and sensible regulation, and with hard work and the country might get somewhere.
