Wages in the United Kingdom have fallen more in real terms during the current economic downturn than ever before, according to a report. One third of workers who stayed in the same job saw a wage cut or freeze between 2010 and 2011, said the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). Read full article

    There is a reason why smaller companies cut the wages and retain the staff: the people have usually been at the company for many years and are seen as 'family'.

    Big companies have the scourge of the unions to contend with. They don't GAF if people lose their jobs, they and their mates will still be on the payroll (last in - first out).

    Simple as that.
