New figures published on Friday by the UK Trade and Investment Defense and Security Organization (UKTI DSO) show that UK defense exports totaled £8.8 billion over the past year, a rise of 62% from 2011 in a global market that grew by 45%. The results mean the UK maintains its position as the second most successful defense exporter after the United States. Read full article

Argieland doesn't even appear in the top 10. Because it's peaceful? No. Because it's crap. Argie main battle tanks can be defeated by an Austin Mini with a Colt .45 mounted. Argie combat aircraft can be defeated by a helicopter, assuming the wings haven't already dropped off. Argie warships? Just wait. They'll sink. All by themselves. Argie submarine(s)? @4 See, as we have proved, we can stabilise countries, remove dictators, save people. Not something colonialist, genocidal, imperialist argieland can say. I see that, on behalf of the UN, argieland only takes part in peacekeeping missions. No getting out on the front line. No danger. No guts. Just how many cowards have you got? We can probably identify around 11,000 of them for you. Or are they all on benefits? That doesn't include the tossers that stood on an argie shore and thought Glad it's not me. @17 Well, it's sort of interesting. On the other hand, Portsmouth is on the coast. As such it has a number of amusement arcades. I doubt whether you could find a video game with a seven foot tall curved screen, but the principle is much the same. Jun 22nd, 2013 - 10:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0@18 Of course we're finished. We've been FINISHED ever since they replaced oars with sails. And again when they fitted steam engines. Then, in another area of our crippled society, remember when they replaced horses with cars? And it was definitely the FINISH when they took away the man with the red flag. Then there were the railways. Definitely FINISHED then. How could somebody survive travelling at 30mph. How about Parliament? Must have been FINISHED when common people could get elected. Or was that women got the vote?
@22 Tell us who you sold the Pampero multiple rocket launcher to. Weren't you planning to sell your TAM tank to Malaysia, Peru and Panama? Didn't you sell the Pucara to Sri Lanka? Trouble is, you don't really have anything anyone wants to buy, do you? Take Faz's advice, try marketing those rollover destroyers!
@24 Do let us know when we're in your territory, won't you? Here's a tip. To determine your territory, on OUR side, you go to where the solid stuff changes to liquid and then a further 12 miles. After that you're a target.
@35 Don't make no difference, me old mangelwurzel. You know how it works. You let dissenters organise. Then you know who they are. You let them have rallies, marches and so forth. If you are in the market, then you have to purchase from a supplier. You buy from warmongers. So, out of all the worlds arms suppliers, only the British are Warmongers ? A rather biased view, don't you think. If you wish to be holier than thou, renounce all arms, disband ALL your forces, stop any manufacture of military equipment by Argentina.
Then your post may have some validity.
We are in the HiTec market of defence equipment, hence the value of exports not the quantity.
Other countries supply RPG's, AK-47's, land mines and plastic explosives to terrorist groups who kill more people.
“You can expect to become a victim of whatever means you use to get what you want.”

Jun 22nd, 2013 - 02:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0also worth pointing out it is nearly always UK and US first and second in 2010/11 UK was bigger exporter mainly due to the US buying our gear, that said we share a lot of military equipment with our US counterparts, but Britain is bigger in the nuclear sector and advanced warship technology such as that seen on the type 45 destroyer, the world's most advanced anti-aircraft warship a snip at only £1,000,000,000
But just for your Argentines, we're broke and I'm currently searching for a lost biscuit down the back on my mates sofa just so I can eat this week ;)
Not entirely true. BAE is still the worlds largest arms company. But the US far exceeds what we sell in terms of military equipment.
Jun 22nd, 2013 - 03:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And the 45 is a good ship but the US have far better destroyers.
You folks have me confused with someone else. I am a reformed US citizen (now living in Uruguay) , who couldn't stomach the war mongering of my former country and her client states (UK, Israel, etc.). I chose a peaceful country for a reason.
Jun 22nd, 2013 - 03:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@Zethee, the US equivalent of our Destroyer is the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, it's no where near as advanced as the type 45, it's 10 years out of date.

Millions of the bastard Peronistas crowing the Junta? These were not Americans who, as an American citizen yourself you seem anxious to distance yourself as somehow causing the Junta? Are you serious?
As far as I am concerned there are two distinct groups in Argentina:
1) the despicable Kirchnerites, the true inheritors of Pernonism and all its devious cowardly actions which continue to subjugate the reasonable people. I call this group argies. From the last election analysis it seems there are between 12 – 15 million of them.
2) the rest of the population such as my next door neighbour and his family who live in BsAs and Simon68 and his family and the like I call Argentines and they have my complete respect and condolences for the fact they are held hostage to TMBOA and her bunch of crooks.
I don’t think I am on my own with this clarification. Hope it helps.

Even the treatment of the civilian population in the Falklands must have been the American's fault - nothing to do with the Argentinians !

@66 Ah, yes. The good old Vietnam War. A few little statistics. One is that, during the war, U.S. troops murdered about 6,000 civilians. That's a lot. By comparison Viet Cong insurgents assassinated 37,000 civilians. In addition, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops murdered between 106,000 and 227,000 civilians in South Vietnam. Khmer Rouge insurgents shelled Phnom Penh for more than a year inflicting random death and mutilitation on 2 million citizens. Anyway, we've got you tagged now, haven't we? Mea culpa is so boring, isn't it?
@78 Shame about Phan Thi Kim Phuc being South Vietnamese. Bombed by a South Vietnamese pilot after her village had been attacked and occupied by the North Vietnamese. In fact, you could barely move in Woolwich without seeing signs of the British peoples support for the troops, from ALL sections of society, even those who are muslims, who were as horrified by the actions of these cowards as anyone else, especially as they claimed to be doing it for their religion.
Unlike you think, we British aren't cowards, and won't be swayed by the actions of terrorists.
Just like on the 8 July 2005, the day after the Al-queda attack, Londoners sported t-shirts with the logo: still not scared upon it.
Let's compare those actions to those of Argentina, shall we?
Instead of pursuing the terrorists in the AIMA bombing, your government cosy's up to the people who did it, and by doing so has betrayed all of Argentina's people, not only the victims and their families.
By doing this they have shown the world that Argentina is willing to be scared and pushed around by terrorists, and to do business with them, because that is more important than the lives of Argentine citizens.
But never mind, at least Argentina is building a sh!t aircraft, that is already 30 years out of date before it comes off the production line.
Just 'think' about all the cool military hardware Argentina could have, if it wasn't for the ineptness and corruptness of your own government at both local and national level.

Zethee, the US equivalent of our Destroyer is the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, it's no where near as advanced as the type 45, it's 10 years out of date.
Jun 23rd, 2013 - 05:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You are joking aren't you? The 45 is a great ship but the only advantage it has over an AB is it's new radar system and it's not that much more advanced.
I mean just look at the specs on the two ships
AB - T45
5 62 calibre, 62nm range 4.5, 13nm range
96 missiles 46 missiles
TLAM land attack missiles Nothing
2 x MH60R helos 1 1 x Lynx
torpedos + sonar avoidance suite Nothing
SM3/Aegis Nothing
The Arleigh Burke-class is a much cheaper and versatile ship than the T-45 will ever be. Just because something is 10 years ewer doesn't make it better.
The T-45 would hit missiles more accurately, yes but that does not mean it is better, for example:
48 Asters with say a 90% kill rate, would take down 43 targets.
Even if a AB only used 80 missiles. and had a far lower digree of accuracy(say 80%) it would still destroy 64 threats.
Our navy may say it's the most advanced and technically it is, but it's nowhere near the best.

Today's Telegraph :- Quote...........
”Solidarity with the military has defined the country's reaction. Help for Heroes – the charity whose T-shirt Drummer Rigby was wearing when he was murdered – was overwhelmed by requests. They switched their 9-5 warehouse operation to a 24-hour schedule and opened phone lines on weekends in an effort to meet the surge in demand. Their website temporarily crashed and was soon sold out of almost every piece of merchandise. Woolwich's response has tried to epitomise a similar solidarity. Within days local leaders of all faiths gathered to denounce the killing and pledge unity.

The Dunkirk evacuation, commonly known as the Miracle of Dunkirk
Jun 23rd, 2013 - 06:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0British, French, and Belgian troops were cut off by the German army
remaining 40,000 men of the French First Army in a delaying action against seven German divisions, including three armoured divisions
Dunkirk or the Falklands
To be fair we were kicked out of France [fighting all the way]
A fantastic withdrawal, even if it was initially a disaster,
But up against over 7 German divisions two tank battle groups,
And hundreds of German planes, A bloody miracle if ever there was one,
Ok, we lost the battle, but we did win the war.==
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
And the Falkland’s and the glorious argentinian battles and fighting withdrawal,,
Mmmmmmmmm
The argentines was up against the royal navy,
Less than 20 planes, and fighting less than six thousands British troops on foot,
Argentina had approx well over a hundred planes,
A navy, and thousands of troops,
No glorious retreat thus lost the battle and the war.
To be fair you cannot even contemplate comparing the two events,
Especially when the Argies, who had overwhelming forces were spectacularly defeated..
Still====
To be fair, nothing much has changed, considering the Argies are still losing ….
perhaps the future will be brighter,=under the brainwashing lamp . lol

Ah yes, the so-called nastiness that the British did to his family in Kenya, who were apparently on the side of the Mau-Mau, which was impossible as his family weren't of the Mau-Mau tribe and therefore would've been killed by them. Most people don't seem to understand (Obama is one of them) that the Mau-Mau hated all those 'other' tribes far more than they hated to the British.
Obama also failed to mention that the evil British charged his father (who was in the British Army - not the Kenyan Army) with theft, because he stole the silver from the Officer's Mess.
No wonder he doesn't like to talk about it. It's hardly the struggle against the 'white' man when you find out your father spent a few months in the pokey and then was dishonourably discharged from the British Army for stealing, no less.
Good job the British Army doesn't have Sharia Law isn't it? His father would be one hand less if they did.

But their ignorance about their own Anglosphere seems to be even bigger!!!
Take, for example Turnip Posters (128) Mr. ”ChrisR” and (129) Mr ”LEPRecon”…. Both of them say (about American President Obama)…:
”I had such high hopes about this man only to find he cannot get over what the Brits are supposed to have done to his father……”
I say….:
It was not his FATHER; it was his GRANDFATHER….
Mr ”LEPRecon” continues saying (about American President Obama)…:
”….the so-called nastiness that the British did to his family in Kenya, who were apparently on the side of the Mau-Mau, which was impossible as his family weren't of the Mau-Mau tribe…..”
I say…:
1) Quite imposible indeed because the Mau Mau” were not a ”Tribe”..... It was a liberation movement composed mostly by Kikuyus!
2) The so-called nastiness that the British did to his GRANDFATHER in Kenya happened in 1949….. The Mau Mau movement didn’t even exist at that time…
3) Furthermore, Mr. LEPRecon´s comment about President Obama’s GRANDFATHER being accused by the English of stealing the Officer's Mess silver surely comes from the same reliable source that provided us with President Obama’s ”Kenyan Birth Certificate”….
What a nice couple of Prize Turnips those two Anglo clowns make!

Jun 24th, 2013 - 09:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The T45's are a floating air threat destroyer, with a much better strike ration than you 'suggest'.
Even with a much better ration than you state. All of these ships are untested and even if ours had a 100% hit rate and the american ships had a 70% kill rate, they would still be more effective and be able to kill more threats than our ships are able.
I fully support our navy but there is no way in any way shape or form anyone can say that the t-45 is a better ship that is massively more expensive than the AB and had less of EVERYTHING than the US destroyer does.
It is simply a superior ship. This is coming from a person who is very pro british.
@133 The usual tag from me.

Under Sharia, the children MUST take the religion of the father (Grandfather in this case - OK).
So Obama’s Father was therefore a Muslim and so Obama MUST also be a Muslim. He was of course a crap father as well.

Yes!! Please do look at the nice shiny plane with all those nice big rockets on it. This is what you can afford in a country where your leader isn't padding out their bank accounts with the money that is supposed to aspent on defence.....
Your air force, how are those falklands war vintage planes that you are still flying working out for you?
@Zethee, there are better ships on the ocean of that there is no doubt, but the Destroyer is best of it's class in technology terms, it is an all round air defence system that is currently unrivalled, the Americans have some awesome gear of course they do, not disputing that.
Jun 25th, 2013 - 09:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0Pointless quoting hit accuracy or percentages of other vessels as the Destroyer has not seen any real action yet, my point this as an escort ship to a carrier or fleet is no doubt the tool of choice, it's tracking and radar systems coupled with its armoury make this a formidable and truly modern ship. the next best thing to this type of Destroyer is the Arleigh Burke-class is currently the only type of destroyer the Americans have in service as from 2005
The above was the best of type in it's time, but it's not as stealth as the T-45 Can't track and target as many objects and all at closer range, this is where the difference is made, as the T-45 can track twice as many objects at a further range, IMO that makes it a better air defence system that that of the Burke-class, simply put it's just more modern and from range its more deadly. These two Destroyers operate side by side on some operations in the Indian ocean both Brit and Yank together they are some serious pairing, but the T-45 is that little bit smarter.
@137 I love the Type 45s, but apart from 'Stealthyness' (almost debatable whether it is desirable in a carrier escort anyway- I'm sure USN would much rather an AB took a missile than a carrier) most of the other advantages that a Type 45 has over an AB are minimal or not really advantages in the environment the USN operates in. Samson is a better radar than SPY-1 sure, but with AWACS and advanced CEC the advantage is pretty much irrelevant.

Jun 26th, 2013 - 11:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0My percentages were random. But it still proves a point you can not ignore.96 missiles are, and will always be better than 46. You can say our systems are slightly better and they very well might be, but not much because as much as you might love the navy the US navy is way more advanced thaqn most others in the world. 96 is still better than 46.
The US AB ships are simple better in almost every situation than ours, are much cheaper and it will only be a year or two untill they get a radar upgrade and will be better than ours.
@103 I have this souvenir my daddy brought back from India at the end of THE war. It's called a kukri. I also used to be a Boy Scout. BE PREPARED.
Jun 28th, 2013 - 03:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@109 Just as a small point. Later versions of the Arleigh Burke-class are fitted with the 5/54 caliber Mark 45 gun. It has a range of 20nm, 37km, 23 miles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5%22/54_caliber_Mark_45_gun#Variants
Minor point, I know, but if you can't get the simplest thing right!
Oh yes, and the US Navy had to ask the RN to turn off the Type 45's systems so that an exercise would be fair.
While we're at it, why do US tanks need British armour? And who invented the tank? Why does the advanced F-35 need input from BAE?
Why is the Bradley Fighting Vehicle made by BAE?
How come the aircraft carrier, the angled deck and the mirror landing system were all invented by the British? As well as radar and sonar.
@112 Well, muslims aren't worth much. Although I gather they have been quite a hit in Buenos Aires. As in 1994. See we have this strange concept. It's called kill the other guy before he can kill you. Only way to respond to something that hasn't progressed for 1400 years. And, amazingly, we can thank argieland. But for its actions we might have thought that the whole world had progressed into the 20th century. But argies showed us that they hadn't progressed since the 17th century. Or earlier. Perhaps the 15th. So we were much better prepared for the maniacs from the 7th century.
@123 I'm going to write to the RAF. To see whether we can get a representation of a green-eyed monster painted on the Typhoons in the Falklands. Argie pilots would think it was a mirror!
@133 No chance of a liberation movement in argieland, eh? Made sure of that, didn't you? Wipe the lot out. The argie way. Jeez. Argies. They think they are human. Next thing, they'll start thinking they are people”.
A shameful record, arming wars and dictatorships around the world. Cristinita's Argentina again shows a better way is possible by jailing Menem for this kind of thing!
