FIFA wants the centenary World Cup in 2030 to be jointly staged by Uruguay and Argentina, who met in the final of the inaugural tournament, Argentine FA (AFA) president Julio Grondona said on Thursday. Read full article
I have no idea why should Argentina allow Uruguay to host the World Cup, it would be a huge undertaking and as of this point Argentina cannot host the event unless it returns to the capital markets, which would be a disastrous idea.
But even if it could in 10 years... given Uruguay's attitude about Argentina, why should we put up 9o% of the costs yet Uruguay gets half of the revenue? It is a non-starter.
Even the more equal cost Japan-Korea was full of problems because of the co-hosting... no chance here.
I thought that these things went to open tender, could be just wishful thinking or a desperate attempt to get automatic qualification after Messi retires.
Why should The Dark Country make Uruguay pay for more than half because if the government are stupid enough to go with this shit, that is what it will be.
Have you personally visited estadio centenario? I have, it is a dump and too small for the safety rules that FIFA quite rightly insist upon.
That is why Brasil has had to build so many new stadia, pity about the build quality so far. I would imagine the government are checking that the builders were building to specification and not ripping everybody off by cutting corners. This would not be the first time it has happened in most countries.
Plus FIFA are a bunch of corrupt crooks and only really interested in the money.

Still it would seem to be the logical venue, if a deal could be arranged that would be fair and equitable to both sides.
I wonder who Grondona will blame when the stadiums are not ready on time.
