“The motive for such an event and show of Latinamerican integration is the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Montevideo”

And a reminder that 200 years ago their ships didn't break down.

Yup, they've run out of money alright.

The walls are crumbling badly now, it's just a matter of time before the roof collapses in.

Could it be that this is being kept in home waters as it is vital to the countries defence as its first/last/only line of defence against the British nuclear armed subs that Argentina repeatedly insist are patrolling the South Atlantic.

They a reclassifying the vessel as an anti submarine warfare vessel.

@4 RICO, I'm not sure about as an ASW vessel, it doesn't even have the (welded shut) gravity-fed torpedo scuttle that ARA Presidente Sarmiento has.

Possibly reclassify it as a mine countermeasure vessel (it's got a wooden hull so it might be some good against magnetic mines), or as a single-use minehunter (any ship can be used to detect one mine after all, it's trying to have it in working order to detect the next mine that's the problem).

And we were told they had HOW much: 39 Bn dollars was it?

Botox treatment must be absolutely prohibitively expensive!

Well, that's it promoted to single-use minehunter proper then...

Perhaps the armed forces are keeping in port so they can hang certain folk from the yardarms?

    Briton,
Actually small coastal patrol vessels are functioning fairly well. The subs they have are declared unsafe by their German builders and for some reason, the Argentines are having difficulty servicing the Rolls Royce turbines on their frigates.
The navy is tight lipped about their current plight, but it's no secret that their fleet is decaying away, just like their aircraft carrier that was secretly scrapped years ago...
