Archaeologists, historians, former service personnel and mental health professionals are meeting in London to discuss a plan to use archaeology to tackle war trauma. The plan is the idea of University of Glasgow academic Dr Tony Pollard and is centred on the Falkland Islands conflict. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesMy guess is that in most places they'll dig up a lot of unfired Argentine ammunition, as well as all the other items too heavy to carry when running away. No point sending Argentine veterans on an archaeological dig, as soon as they realize they're in a trench they'll jump out and run off.

May think,
It may work for some, but for others facing hell 2nd time around may not be acceptable,
Let hope what ever they may hope to find , they do it respectfully and with dignity-
And let’s hope it has a positive impact on those sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder…
Thanks..

You may have to kill......or you may be killed or wounded
What did you really expect, what did you think being a professional soldier was all about......it's what they pay you to do!
A career choice, a choice that was yours, none of you were conscripts!
@3
Jul 10th, 2013 - 07:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That is a very churlish, dare I say Argentine way of viewing things. Few of us can even imagine what they saw and endured.
The UK cares about the welfare of its soldiers unlike Argentina that abandoned its own soldiers to starve and die of exposure.
This article is actually a very good example of the difference between us and Argentina and why we will never let it happen again.
@3
Jul 10th, 2013 - 07:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Not the ones on Tumbledown, they were regulars from the 5th Marine Infantry Battalion. 5 BIM. Not conscripts.
WGAF anyway, they were responsible for the entire conflict. How they man their armed forces is their business.
Oh! And I think you will find that some of their men also suffered and still suffer from PTSD.

#3 stink, outside of latam, countries do not have their military because they did not drop them out of helicopters, or took their citizens for one way drives in green Ford Falcons. So you hate your militray to the point of decimating them that you cannot defend yourself as a nation. It takes a certain kind of person that would want to voluntarily put themselves in a position where they MIGHT have to commit legal murder.
Then bleat about it when they find it..............traumatic!
No one forced them to join!
You are a premeditated idiot. Most people serve in the military out of a sense of honor to serve their country and protect their follow countrymen. Unlike your military that throws citizens out of helicopters. I can understand why you hate your military. It's a shame I never met you in a free fire zone.

That's like saying when a fireman is killed or injured in the line of duty, the rest if the firefighters shouldn't be affected because it's their own fault and no one forced them to do it.
Those who serve in the Armed Forces CHOOSE to put themselves in harms way to defend others. Just like the British troops in 1982 did. They risked their lives to save the people of the Falklands from a murderous military Junta, and the people of Argentina who were fully supportive of their planned ethnic cleansing.
Those who serve in the Armed Forces have to risk many things, including their lives, and have to have courage, something that you are lacking in spades.
The British Army lives by these value and standards:
Selfless commitment
Others- Respect them even the enemy
Loyalty
Integrity
Discipline
Courage
These are the values that every British Solider aspires to.
You wouldn't understand that.
You also wouldn't understand that it is the duty of the country to look after its service personnel when they are sick, injured or wounded in some way. Mental illness, especially post traumatic stress disorder is a wound that cannot be seen from the outside, but is still as real a wound as someone who has been shot.
You really should be ashamed of yourself for your posts, but that would mean that you would have to have respect (you don't even have self-respect let alone any for other people), compassion, which you lack (maybe you're a sociopath) and honour, which you definitely lack.
Go and talk with some Argentine veterans of the Falklands war. See how they been abandoned and ignored by Argentina. You should be ashamed.

When is murder not murder? when your government says you can!
Your whole post is ethical nonsense!
The Army is a career.....a job and they get paid to do it.....their choice., THEIR Choice!
The majority of people have the common sense to not join the Armed Forces as they are quite aware of the risks and the moral ethics!

Sociopaths are masters are presenting themselves as heroes with high morals and philosophy, yet underneath it they are the true criminal minds in society who steal, undermine, deceive, and often incite emotional chaos among entire communities. They are masters at turning one group of people against another group while proclaiming themselves to be the one true savior. Wherever they go, they create strife, argument and hatred, yet they utterly fail to see their own role in creating it. They are delusional at so many levels that their brains defy logical reasoning.
You cannot reason with a sociopath. Attempting to do so only wastes your time and annoys the sociopath.

Jul 11th, 2013 - 09:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0@15 It seems that you're psychotic. You appear to be criticising members of the British armed forces for travelling to the Falkland Islands to forcibly remove the armed farces of the state that had illegally invaded and occupied them. I have no doubt that those British soldiers would much rather have watched from a distance whilst the Royal Air Force launched nuclear weapons to pulverise the place and kill every invader. Regrettably, with its usual bravery, argieland was holding hostages. Not only was it holding them but, in direct contravention of the Geneva Conventions, it was deliberately placing them at risk in an attempt to avoid Britain's legal action to recover its territory. It was YOUR bunch of retards that imprisoned over 100 Islanders in Goose Green's community hall while the retards ruined their homes. Civilian men, women and children imprisoned without food or water OR any protection. And who, in true cowardly fashion, set up gun positions between civilian homes and painted Red Cross symbols on anything and everything.
Jul 11th, 2013 - 10:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, our troops are professionals and the best there is. But that doesn't mean they are cold-hearted killing machines. They have feelings. They have fears. The essence of courage is to do what has to be done, against opposition, despite one's fears. Not a quality to be found amongst those who push nuns and others out of aircraft. If our people were cold killing machines, you wouldn't have got 11,313 prisoners back. We could have killed the lot. So don't EVER say anything derogatory about our troops. You aren't fit to lick the soles of their boots. Although, being a coward, you'd never get that close!

As you profess to be Scottish, why don't you open up the discussion by writing a letter to the Herald or Scotsman expressing your firmly held opinion. You could also write to Combat Stress at Hollybush in Ayrshire, or use facebook and give them your honest opinion on the matter of PTSD and how all the sufferers deserve what they got.
It could be an interesting and lively debate. Who knows, you may even find someone who agrees with you. There are all sorts.
Sociopaths:
Jul 11th, 2013 - 01:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0”#3) Sociopaths are incapable of feeling shame, guilt or remorse. Their brains simply lack the circuitry to process such emotions. This allows them to betray people, threaten people or harm people without giving it a second thought. They pursue any action that serves their own self interest even if it seriously harms others. This is why you will find many very successful sociopaths in high levels of government, in any nation.”

Well, mental-illness would explain a lot.
He scores 9/10 on the what to look for scale, and his behaviour seems to fit.
The only trait he is missing is the cult of followers and admirers.
Posting on a written forum makes him look foolish and abrasive.
He has to create his own 'followers' for adulation, hence the multiple sock puppets.
”(NaturalNews) One of the more offensive duties of being an investigative journalist is taking out the trash -- exposing liars, fraudsters, con artists and scammers for the people they truly are. Jul 11th, 2013 - 08:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0English disease is a bizarre psychiatric disease suffered by roughly 90% of the population of England. Characterised by egomania, a superiority complex and an inferiority complex, delusions of grandeur, and natiokleptomania (a strong desire to steal other people’s countries), the disease is thought to be genetic. A sufferer of English disease is known as an English Patient.
Jul 11th, 2013 - 08:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0English disease is an entirely psychiatric disease – Symptoms include,
Superiority complex and Inferiority complex - the English Patient's mind is torn by these two conflicting symptoms. English disease instills a deep sense of national pride, and a belief that England is easily the best country in the world; however, it also creates a huge feeling of personal inadequacy in the sufferer. This explain how, while some English Patients can be introverted, with a tendency for great understatement, others can be loud, charismatic and domineering.
Egomania and delusions of grandeur - these symptoms can sometimes be explained by the superiority complex, but in other cases, they are completely inexplicable. In some cases, an English Patient can develop both an inferiority complex and egomania, leading to great internal conflicts: these English Patients are innately aware and overwhelmingly proud of all of their strengths and achievements, but are reluctant to tell others about them. This leads to a decidedly strange personality.
Natiokleptomania – as mentioned before, natiokleptomania is a strong, often overpowering desire to steal other people’s countries. This symptom of the disease is rare nowadays, but was very prevalent as little as a hundred years ago. Natiokleptomaniacs are often unaware that they are doing anything wrong - they just have a highly skewed perception of the world's borders.
Xenophobia - due to their superiority complex and their natiokleptomania, English Patients look upon inhabitants of any other country with great disdain.

Jul 12th, 2013 - 10:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0”English disease is a bizarre psychiatric disease suffered by roughly 90% of the population of England. Characterised by egomania, a superiority complex and an inferiority complex, delusions of grandeur, and natiokleptomania (a strong desire to steal other people’s countries), the disease is thought to be genetic
This perfectly describes Argentina
1/-Egomania-perfect Argentine trait-any other South American nationality will confirm this.
2/-Superiority complex-however Argentine proclamations are normally followed by failure as they always try to punch above their weight.
3/-Inferiority complex-Argentina is sh1t scared of speaking to Falkland Islanders, even though there aren't many of them.
4/-Delusions of grandeur=Argentina is a would be Imperialist power whilst its country in reality, crumbles and fails.
5/-natiokleptomania-perfect description of would-be colonialist Argentina-unfortunately for them their dreams will remain as such, reality recognition not being a particularly strong Argentine trait.
You have basically described the Argentine, not the British psyche.
@32
is said there was a saladero, the house of Vernet
This is the guy that got permission from the British to be on the Falklands and who later received compensation for his loses from the British government, proving that Vernet recognised British sovereignty. This is why the Argentines conveniently 'forgot' Vernet when making their distorted case to the UN in the 1960s
@32
the warrah, why it disappear......”
It was exterminated by farmers, a sad part part of Falklands history, however the Argentine nation exterminated thousands of native Indians, so you can hardly hold your heads up high on that one.
Your next ploy will to lament the disappearance of Alan Addis, a great tragedy in my view, but conviniently forgetting that Argentina easily trumped this by pushing nuns out of helicopters, gouging out the eyes of priests, murdering 1000s of people, including the use of acid baths

Jul 12th, 2013 - 04:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Honestly, Pete, I think that ArgievoiceofThinkedover
is getting a bit lazy with his disenchsntment of this site.
His English Disease monologue with the witty (not) reference to The Englidh Patient is pedantic and boring.
Think is being beaten down at every turn, his efforts to goad and enrage failing to get the 'returns' he expects for his efforts.
Given that he is trying to to defend a weak, if not ridiculously indefensible premise, it must be very difficult for him and very discouraging.
I suspect his heart is not in it anymore on the eve of CFK's downfall.
However, he is still like a crack 'ho, needing his 'fix'.

Jul 12th, 2013 - 11:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I don't find any Malvis enraging-I get pleasure from correcting their continued mistakes. I don't feel goaded-in fact it entertains that they can't see the obvious.
The most amusing event is when a question is asked and there is no answer-this proves that they can take their argument so far then it disintegrates. I don't find the fact they drop a question and then disappear, annoying, in fact the opposite.
What I do find annoying is when the UK in the past have taken Argentina's claims and distorted history as gospel without examining them and that up to the last few years the MLA's have done little to challenge what are glaring mistruths-but thanks to CFK's megaphone rants, they are now on a roll. When I got erroneous history on the BBC website changed last year with a simple e-mail, an MLA had told me we don't mention 1833 as its embarrassing. Well it obviously isn't with the most basic research and in fact supported rather than disabled the British claim in the 1800s.

Jul 13th, 2013 - 07:39 am - Link - Report abuse 0I've found over the past year that we are questioning ourselves less and the Troll lies are more quickly refuted now that the real history has been established.
The Referendum has changed the playing field dramatically. Islanders and Brits are confident of their status and relationship.
The Trolls still repeat their old arguments, but they are futile and the Trolls back off quickly.

Jul 14th, 2013 - 09:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0Argie trolls=Strangely similar to the way the Argentines boasted about having the 'Malvinas' forever when they invaded in 1982, gobbed off proclaiming their superiority over the British. Then when challenged put up some resistance, and after further challenging, ran away and surrendered returning to Argentina which has subsequently whinged and whined about how unfair everything is and how an aggressor is now a victim.
I see strong parallels here.

because I really want to know about your guarantee. More so that you are clueless about the entire phrase as was Hep C but that did not stop you from using a portion of history to use incorrectly because you know nothing of the context.
