By John C.K. Daly of Oilprice.com - Australia's massive mineral exports allowed it to weather the global recession, which began in 2008, quite nicely. Read full article
This is a pretty old story and I'm surprised to see it turning up in MercoPress. Still I laugh at the idea of Coober Pedy turning into a major oil centre - such a tiny little place, and brutally hot in summer. And Tom Koutsantonis will be amused at his description.
Anyhow....
Now that you have decided to comment on Federal Aussie matters, I hope you are better prepared for Ozzie Anglolatino's wrath........
He doesn't like any smart comments from the Western Australia Colony ;-)
That's a pretty accurate article as far as I can tell. There's been an underlying anxiety for years in this country about how long this mining boom was going to last and now it seems the bloom is finally off. The good thing is the Aussie dollar is finally starting to come down - our manufacturing sector took a big hit when the dollar was stronger than the U.S. equivalent.
This story could be good news, but the first comment ( 1 ) has a point - environment issues could well be a concern and whilst I don't claim to be a fracking expert I understand that extracting the stuff could be ... challenging.
Not sure what you meant by W.A. colony - I live in S.A. - but Western Australia does have a problem with the rest of the country. Every now and again they threaten ( not very seriously ) to secede while the rest of the country smirks.
I can see that the Environment of the Aussie Coober Pedy Shale Oil Bassin Area looks disturbingly similar to the Argie Vaca Muerta Shale Oil Bassin Area .....;-)))
My wife and I were going to be self-funded retirees on the latest scheme until The Cunt Brown crashed the UK economy and thieved half of our net wealth in the process. Couldn't afford the ante after that. As it turns out the Labour pillocks in Oz were no better than the twats in the UK.
We were going to settle in Kadina, on The Leg and were bitterly disappointed when we had to knock it on the head. Great people, very welcoming and you drive on the left AND you speak English (sort of!).
So I looked along the 39th parallel and eventually came to Uruguay: great people, very welcoming, but drive on the right which my wife finds a chore and they speak Espanol (which is starting to gel at last).
Still, it could have been worse we could be argies! Ha, ha, ha. :o)

Jul 23rd, 2013 - 07:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Best they upgrade the hospitals and water plants to deal with the aftermath. @5 You can use your petrol dollars to buy imported water.

Already taken care of. We just built a desalination plant. Contentious and expensive. But still. And hospital upgrades on the way.
