Well this is the type of job the Guardia Civil are good for, thugs!
They are despised by the Spanish people for being aggressive, corrupt and taking back handers when the pull motorists over.

Still, this is a sign of the times for Spain, roll the state of Catalonia.

I'm very hopeful that Catalonia will be free in the next decade. They will free themselves from the dead weight of the rest of Spain to become a thriving country in their own right. They deserve to have their freedom.

As for the Guardia Civil at the border, they will have to put up with the fact that no-one in the local community on either side of the border will like them. They will be hated by everyone.

As for the 50 Euro fee, well if Margallo puts that into effect and the EU does nothing, then the UK ought to put a £100 fee on EVERYONE from the EU who comes to Britain.

Next we could arrange for Gibraltar to recruit replacement workers from the unemployed in this country for all the Spanish who can no longer work in Gibraltar. There is space for 10,000 troops in Gibraltar. During WW2, extensive works inside the Rock dug out huge tunnels with accommodation for thousands of troops to defend the Rock from the Spanish or the Germans. If Gibraltar needs fresh workers, then they could be accommodated IN the Rock, until they find a residence.

The UK should take a leaf out of Turkey necks book and Nationalise O2 and Heathrow Airport.
Much more effective than sending a few gun boats.

Lots of things can be done, such as relocate the entire fleet of Iberia planes to Gibraltar :-)

It is important to recognise what can and cannot be done. For instance, there is little purpose to sending a frigate to the Rock. Come an incursion, how long for a frigate to bring her engines on line, cast off or unmoor and get up to speed. So the best option is to send a couple of flights of the Army Air Corps' Apache attack helicopters. As they are designed and armed as tank-killers, imagine what they could do to a boat. Any boat! Imust take nigelpwsmith's word on accommodation available IN the Rock. Regrettably, when I visited Gibraltar, I had no time to visit the tunnels and caves. I doubt that it would take the Royal Engineers long to blast out and level landing pads and enlarge tunnels and caves so that the Apaches could be housed within the Rock. They would also be effective against the land border.

The Rock is like Swiss cheese - full of holes!

During WW2, they dug out accommodation for over 10,000 troops - no joke. If you stop to think about it, that's a hell of a large number of people. Having ten people around you is quite a party, but now multiply that a thousand times and it's an astonishing figure.

Gibraltar is one of the biggest NATO bases, but it's a bit like an iceberg, as only a fraction of it can be seen. They also have forces accommodation which I believe is unoccupied at present and adjacent to the airfield. So they could easily handle 40 or 42 Commando if re-deployed at a moment's notice.

The Apache's would make an interesting addition to the Rock, but they would be vulnerable if a conflict broke out. Far better for the UK to deploy some of the soon to be obsolete Sea Kings and fit them with manure sprayers or some other foul smelling liquid, to douse any militant Guardia Civil or fishermen.

They want reinforcements so they can continue to abuse people, but not have to work too hard to do it.

Corrupt people always want a ton of money, and they always end up not wanting to lift a finger for all that money. If the Guardia Civil wants extra personnel, that is why. They don't like too much work.

Union people also want a ton of money, and don't want to lift a finger to get it. So, if the Police Union is calling for additional personell, that is why. A very, very little amount of work is the most ideal.

In both cases, these folks are probably too lazy to keep on with all the work involved in harassing all those people at the border. Soon they will want to park their backends in a chair and do nothing, that is their ideal work situation.

So, just wait it out, they will all just want to go back to their nice comfortable chairs soon.

Apaches could be housed within the Rock....and blow ships out of the water.
lololol oh god here we go.

manure sprayers - I like this train of thought...yes, yes....smoke stacks, no, no....a small waste processing plant and the right winds. Right on the border.
Maybe 100,000 watt lights shining towards gibraltar and its runway approach. lolol.

Lets try to keep it real.

    @9

Everybody wants a ton of money, you do, and so do I.

I'm not blaming anyone for something that all humans want.

Lazy and corrupt people don't want to work for that big pile of money. They lie for it and talk like they are really hard workers and big important contributors to society but it is all words and all they really do is lie and sit on their asses in a nice comfortable chair.

They get very used to their ass being in a nice comfortable chair and they don't want to stay away from it for too long. These border inspection harassments will blow over.

Do the people of Gibraltar just sit on their ass and let the UK do all the defending?

Does the UK get nothing for providing defense at Gibraltar? Maybe the UK gets no taxes from Gibraltar, they must get something of value though, don't you think?

I heard it reported that an EU spokesman has said that a €50 levy on persons entering or leaving Gibraltar would be illegal.
Likewise, stopping and searching all vehicles would be disproportionate and illegal.

The Gibraltar economy has a significant and positive economic impact on the Campo de Gibraltar region when considered from the point of view of net recurrent expenditure.

If they introduce €50 fee for crossing the border we introduce €50 fee for all passenger flying to Spain.

See how long they last when a couple of million British tourists go to Greece instead.

    JOKE OF THE YEAR,
The Spanish government letting all its regions have a referendum
Just to prove to the British that they are loyal to and love Spain,

After the referendum asking if you want independence, or be British , or stay loyal to Spain,

3 chose to be British, and the rest chose independence,
    [Conclusion]
The Spanish government all 32 , now camped outside the UN buildings, are asking CFK for government asylum in Argentina,
Ha ha , , ha ha , you just could not make it up…lol.
    ..................
poor spain just like Argentina, unloved , unwanted , and lonley.
