After the mensalão case rocked Brazil’s ruling party, it seems it’s now the turn of the Social Democrats (PSDB), the main opposition party. The Attorney General’s office and the police are investigating the allegations against the PSDB and if its leaders received kickbacks from a scheme involving the maintenance of train and metro lines in Sao Paulo. Brazil's Workers Party (PT) is so corrupt and dishonest that to preserve itself, it invents corruption cases to others so that it can cling to power forever. It seems that only cancer will get Brazil rid from these tumors.

I would like to highlight the fact that, the despite the the party call itself a social democrat, they actions and ideologies are obviously neoconservative, not that changes the fact that they're as just corrupt as any other party around here, anyway...

PSDB actions and ideology is not conservative nor liberal. They are merely more democratic leftists.

We hear so much about corruption in these Latam countries but nothing seems to be done about it. Is it because they are ALL at it?

golfcronie, I will try to explain to you in afew words what happens: in Brazil we had a military dictatorship for many years, then came democracy in a country full of social problems and differences. A popular party ascended and distributed “bolsa família” 30US$ (this is public money!) to the poor and promised we were becoming a povertyless country in a time of great world development and flow of money, corruption went rampant and the PT (Workers'Party) bought the opposition and credit was made available to the middle/low classes. Now we are in a situation of nothing got better, corruption is widespread, all that had to be done to develop the nation was not done and billions, maybe trillions of public money simply disappeared or appeared in politicians'bank accounts, and all social problems continue unsolved - many Brazilians believed we were a Giant who was asleep that woke up according to government propaganda and so did the world with beautiful words of the criminal Lula and the ex-communist terrorist Dilma. Nothing of that was true and the reality is knocking at the door of every Braziian today, but PT is so rooted and powerful that we are becoming a new Venezuela in Latin America. It is very sad to see that my country did not folow the road of Chile, it is following th wrong direction and this country is sinking not to be so pessimistic!

That is a helpful and concise summary of your opinion of Brazil.

I for one do not think it pessimistic to constructively criticise your country as only by putting things into the open can anything even have a chance of being done.

It does seem to me that Dilma is trying but has so many obstacles in her way that things are just too much for anyone.

She is the president however and needs to get rid of some of the people close to her like the liar Mantega but she does nothing. Perhaps she really does not see or understand what a disaster the man is for Brazil, especially for inward investment.
