Ah, the Shining Path. Another left-wing revolutionary group carrying out criminal acts in the name of 'freeing the people' that morphed into plain criminals. Now they are the hired muscle of the drug traffickers.
Calling them rebels is a little generous. They are now nothing but bandits. Same as large parts of the FARC in Colombia. They once fought for an ideal but are now nothing but criminals that are parasites on the fringes of society.
The one good effective both FARC and The Shining Path did was give Colombia and Peru an aversion to left wing ideology.
Witness Humala's change of direction to the more pragmatic free market and also look at the difference in direcdtion and growth that they have compared to their left wing neighbours; Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.
The difference will only grow and grow. These former rebels have had the exact opposite effect they were hoping for.
And that is the worst punishment possible I believe.
