The leader of Spain’s opposition Socialist Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba called on the government of president Mariano Rajoy “to avoid adventures that could end looking ridiculous” such as the possibility of a ‘hand to hand’ with Argentina on the Malvinas and Gibraltar cases and instead should look at all the money laundering that takes place in the British Overseas Territory. It's laughable for Spain to complain about money laundering in Gibraltar whilst Spain is the main import route into Europe for drugs from South America as well as being the most corrupt country in Western Europe - ask Rajoy he knows all about corruption.

The EU & US Department of State both described Spain as “a major center of money laundering” its Europe's No1 importer of illegal substances & “the gateway” for drugs entering Europe from South America and North Africa. Access in Spain to the European financial institutions has allowed for the introduction of vast illicit funds into the global financial system but also acts as a clearing house for those illicit funds.

Seriously Spain complaining that Gibraltar is a TAX haven & is used for money laundering when they are the worst offenders is like the king of thief's complaining that his house has been broken into. Gibraltar points out that it has signed 26 information exchange agreements with 26 countries, including France, Germany and the United States and is on the OECD's “white list” of jurisdictions that comply with global tax rules & conform to all EU rules and regulations.

So the 'ecological crime' is to create habitat.
    An interesting understanding of ecology.

It just goes to show that the spanish are wedded to lying and criminality. As is argieland. Why would the British government “sit down and negotiate”? The artificial reef is in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters. IT's about time the spanish were taught not to encroach. Sink things and there will be more artificial reefs. Anything spanish will do. Guardia Civil vessels, SVA vessels, fishing boats, jet-skis, anything. A suitable HE shell or missile should do the trick. Environmental problems can be solved by spain getting out of the environment. Surely it's time that these two states (argieland & spain) are sanctioned. Removal from all international organisations. Nationals not permitted to travel outside state (isolation & quarantine). Confiscation of all arms. Seizure of all national assets to repay any outstanding debts. Removal of current incompetent governments and imprison them.

But, really, what is it about latinos? Do they really “think” their machinations aren't obvious? Any 5-year old could do better. It follows that any 6-year old is miles ahead of them. It's understandable that they are considered to be childish. “Gimme, gimme, gimme. Wants it, wants it, wants it. Or I'll scream and scream and scream until I'm sick.” Best response? Belt it round the head until it shuts up. No pocket money. Sent to room/bed without evening meal. Spanked until they learn not to upset the grown-ups.

Spain joining forces with Argentina... now that's an oxymoron. There is no force and Gibraltar acted within its sovereign territory, within international law. These lying idiot politicians are diverting attention from the true headline.. Spain's dreadful economy.

@8 Its all been cooked up between Cameron & Royjoy, With Royjoy desperate to change the headlines from the economy & his corruption & Cameron desperate to prove the EU in some way works for Britain. Soon they resolve this made up dispute via the EU & Royjoy will claim victory via some sort of concession & Cameron will hail the EU as being instrumental in solving the dispute & everyone should vote to stay in or things like this may happen again. Smoke & mirrors that's all.

I came across this on another site and may explain what wil happen to spain

    SPANISH TOURISM FACES COLLAPSE

    By David Eade
Rajoy and Margallo may have thought tightening the screws on Gibraltar would be a good rouse to divert attention away from their party’s corruptions scandals. Problem is Spaniards are smarter than their leaders and spotted that one a mile off.
Rajoy and Margallo might have thought they were merely expounding their Gibraltar Español mantra by making Gibraltarians, Spaniards, EU citizens and other nationals wait in their cars for eight hours in steaming heat. If that was the case they again have been sorely disappointed as they have been held up as bullies before the world.

Rajoy and Margallo might have thought it would just be a diplomatic spat between London and Madrid, which would follow the same pattern as previous incidents. OK Gibraltarians and the residents of La Línea might have been inconvenienced, but hey, who cares about them? Whoops got that one wrong too.

So if Rajoy and Margallo want to find out the real damage they have done they need to go to their own tourist and property sectors. The dynamic duo have just destroyed their country’s image before Britons: both holiday makers and property buyers. The effects will only be slightly felt now but 2014 could spell a meltdown.

There is a large community of Britons leaving in Spain and they will largely be unaffected from the fallout of the current crisis. A large proportion of those live in English-speaking ghettos anyway and their contact with Spain or Spaniards is minimal. Even if they wanted to sell up and move how would you do that in a dead property market? No the place where Rajoy and Margallo have inflicted the damage is in the tourism market and property markets.

By and large this year’s holidays are booked and paid for and no insurance company is going to cough up a refund because Spain has been bullying Gibraltar.

Next year though is a different matter. Probably over 12

A ruling against Spain by the EU will only be ignored in the same way they ignore EU laws that do not favour them ...... so far they have been the largest reciever of EU investment funding prior to their 100bn bailout, but attitudes are starting to change now the tap has been turned off and it will be the countries that funded an impoverished Spain grow that will receive the flak... Some people can't be helped

The problem for Spain’s tourist chiefs is to persuade 12 million Britons to return in 2014 when their country treats Gibraltar with such utter contempt.

Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Turkey and Malta must all be rubbing their hands in glee. Come to a country that likes Britain they’ll proclaim: and Britons will. So Spanish hotel, restaurant, bar, car hire and holiday attraction owners will be shaking and fearing the worst – and rightly so.

However it goes deeper than that. Spain has been desperate to woo Britons to buy the huge number of empty, unsold properties on its books, especially those in the banks’ portfolios. Sales teams and presentations have been made in Britain to attract UK buyers. Although Russians and others may now be turning to Spain the problem is there numbers are so small it would take decades for them to replace the British who might consider buying despite the horror tales that already fill the UK press about illegal Spanish homes.

The fact is the Spanish tourist board and property sector can take all the ads in the UK they like but they will always be outgunned by the news media showing Rajoy and Margallo inflicting pain on Gibraltarians who are fellow Britons. Spain has started a fire storm on its economy and the tourism sector risks getting its fingers very badly burnt indeed. If Britons abandon the Costa del Sol, Costa Brava and Costa Blanca it will be an economic disaster for Spain – and once lost they may never return.
Oh one final word to the wise in Madrid, presuming there are some in the PP. If you believe Spain has problems with Britons now, just try forming an alliance with Argentina and you won’t know what has hit you. The wider Murdoch Empire in which The Sun never sets is working up its headlines as I write.
For a spanish minister to go on the BBC and say don't trust the British i can only think the silly season is in full swing in Spain

'Julie Girling “trolled” online after call for Spain holiday boycott - Conservative MEP for Gibraltar, Julie Girling has vowed to continue standing up for the Rock, despite having been the victim of vicious abuse from Spanish Internet trolls.
Following her suggestion that British holidaymakers should boycott Spanish resorts, she’s been bombarded by offensive and racist messages via e-mail and Twitter.
Mrs Girling says that it may be that being trolled goes with the job. But she adds, the Spanish trolls aren’t doing their arguments any favours. She claims their abuse shows they have no argument as they can only resort to the lowest form of language. The MEP says the people of Gibraltar need Britain’s support. They will not be bullied by the Spanish Government or by a minority in Spain, she adds, and neither will she.'

Thanks for collecting those reports Steve.

The one I liked the most was the one about the fisheries:

    http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=30462

It shows that not only do the Gibraltar maps show that it is illegal to fish in the area where the new artificial reef is located, but it is also illegal for Spanish boats to fish there as well.

So the reef is hardly stopping the Spanish fishing there, because their own law stops anyone fishing there. Which means that the Divina Providencia was illegally fishing by Spanish AND Gibraltar laws.

The reef is legal by Gibraltar law and Spanish law does not apply because not only is it a non-fishing area for them as well, but it's not their territory in the first place.

I would love to see the Spanish faces in the International Court when it's explained that the Spanish brought this dispute because they could not fish in these waters - when their own law says that they cannot fish in these waters in the first place.

    Total idiots.

I am all in favour of historic aircraft being displayed with their original unit markings.
Could we have a Sea Harrier, complete with kill markings, shown or flying along with the A-4. There is one privately owned Sea Harrier, albeit a later version, on the USA circuit flown by an ex-marine AV-8 pilot.

Maybe we could arrange for the Sea Harrier pilot to whisper over the radio to the A-4 pilot

“La Muerte Negra.................. heee's a coming!”

Then he falls back behind the A-4 and blows him out of the sky with a Sidewinder missile up the tail-pipe!

Now that would be authentic and a faithful reproduction of what happened in 1982.
