This article is not about ALL Brazilian infrastructure, just airports. And plenty of countries don't have this problem. Especially a country that is about to host 2 major international events that need the specific infrastructure that is lacking.

Was London lacking transport infrastructure in 2012?

Because infrastructure is something you should try to plan for not react when it's too late.

My city of 4 million is already slowly building up a second international airport and our first isn't even at capacity. And they already talk about the need for a third one.

Brazil's failure to invest in infrastructure is a major reason that the economy overheats with very low growth rates and causes inflation.

    Anglotino,

Remember, Brasil in the eighties and nineties only work for the pay IMF and the governs and capitalist around the world. Pratically, Brasil began in 2003 with the best president there ever was, Lula. Before Lula, Brasil was a colony from IMF and Paris Club and USA. Time friend, time.

“Brazil's failure to invest in infrastructure is a major reason that the economy overheats with very low growth rates and causes inflation.”

That's exactly why there is inflation in Brazil, though Brazilian states do invest in infrastructure but too little. solutions are: invest MORE for efficient infrastructure.

But, only now have money to built better infra-structure. And we do.....but, two decades without invest, no resolution in 4 or 5 years. And Brasil have 27 stars in our sky (States and DF). Here is a democracy....we talk for to do.

The amount of revenue the Brasilian government must be taking in.......

Very, very little of it appears to be filtering down to help joe public.

For starters the public hostpitals there are shocking, law enforcement does not receive enough funding in every department, schools don't get enough government funding.

A massive oil and gas industry to boast about too, - But where is all the revenue going????

For those not familiar with the technical jargon, this is generally referred to as “major screw-up”. A simple bit of research shows that the World Cup 2010 had an attendance of 3,178,856. Brazil has known that it would be hosting this event since November 2007. That's nearly SIX years. Now what will happen? It's simply not possible for Brazil to create sufficient air-strips in time. How unfortunate that the article doesn't say how many additional air-strips are “needed”. But Brazil can forget about “visitors” spending 7 billion Rais. I suspect that many potential “visitors” will decide not to bother. Especially when they read that Brazilian air traffic control probably won't be able to cope. No sense in dying in an air-crash for the sake of a soccer match. Will Brazil ask neighbouring countries to make their air-strips available? Will it provide free land transport? (Avoid argie railways). Will neighbouring countries be asked to make their stadiums available? (Since it seems unlikely that Brazil will finish its stadiums in time). Could there be another option? Could Brazil tell FIFA that it bit off more than it could chew and ask if a proper country could take on the role of host? Brazil would probably have to make a considerable financial contribution. Shame for Brazil to be shown to be so deficient. Still, latam countries are fairly accustomed to failure. Logic says that Europe already has the stadiums and the air transport infrastructure. Europe then. Just goes to show why third-world countries are third-world. And third-rate.

Visitors? We don't want visitors! The world cup is ous, only ours. Go to see world cup in your rich continent, not in mine. VISA and burocracy to all visitors, except South Americans, Portugueses, Italians, Spanyards, Africans and Germans. The others are the others.

The brand new Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador, Bahia, Brasil is right in the centre of Salvador
    - with dual/triple carriage way main transit routes most of the way from the airport. It looks good on Google Maps.

The flights in/out should be relatively ok (I have spent years living close under the flight path) but, with no Metro and no rail link, the problem is the volume of road traffic.

Fonte das pedras, in Nazare, is theoretically 40 minutes of dual/triple carriageway but, in traffic, this could easily be 3 hours.
As there is usually nose to tail traffic on all lanes a lot of people could miss their matches.

There is , however, the 'Atlanta/London solution' :
... dedicated lanes (recipe for gridlock chaos), combined with
... telling companies to give the workforce the days off (a weak tactic in this case because of the mass of micro companies in the black economy, and the daily travel needs of the 'masses', as vast numbers survive day-to-day through long road journeys to and from work).
No, the 'Atlanta/London solution' may not work here in Salvador ... or at the other stadia around this vast country.

And hotels for everybody ... now there's another real problem!

    Sun, sea, sand and football - yes;
but you may need the 'patience of Job'.

The truth is that the countries that would suit for a World Cup or such similar big events do not want all the burden so they threw this bad business to poor, underdeveloped countries like Brazil whose government badly, desperately needs propaganda. With all the corruption in this country the world will watch a much worse show than that of South Africa and FIFA already stated that the World Cup should not take place in Brazil. Everytime I pass in front of the brand new Gremio Stadium in the entrance of Porto Alegre my eyes hurt, it is so ugly and will be so useless! People will not get to it during the games, they will certainly listen in their car radio! Foreign tourists? I doubt they will come with so much violence everywhere in this country! And those who do come get ready to pay prices similar to Tokyo, the difference: it is not Tokyo here and you will see few Japaneses.

@10 And so the 2014 Brazilian egg cup!
@12 It's just that no-one wants cholera or typhoid!
@15 Sure you don't have crystal balls? Can we smash them against a wall? Being a Brazilian is nothing to be proud of. Try finding something notable.
@21 Please improve your spelling. It's not “ristorant”. It's “soup kitchen”.
@37 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scots_language Whoops! Another prat making a prat of itself.
    @40 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scots_language And now who's a FUCKING SHITHEAD?
@56 A well-known argie tactic. Shout, scream, lie, threaten, whine. Pitiful.
@58 Sorry. What you are is a SHIT. I realise that two letters are the same, but you don't crack it. I've known many Scots and none act like you. Try acting you age. About 13 I'd say.
@61 “Friggin”. Not a word any Scot would use. It's american, tosspot. And you can't even spell it!
@67 “I'm a citizen of the World” Hahahahahaha. Got a “World” passport have you? Typical argie cunt. Daren't admit real nationality. But you have every right to be ashamed. Argieland is a pretty shameful place. Belligerent, corrupt, criminal, degenerate, depraved, larcenous, mendacious. Pick every nasty word in every language and it probably applies to argieland.
Prepared to own up to what you are? Bet you daren't.
@70 Hope you're right. Really want to see Brazil with egg on its face. Running down its shirt. Soaking its shorts. and dripping on its feet. My only regret is that it isn't argieland. At least Brazil tries. Argieland doesn't. Let's all get together, hate argieland and crap on it from a great height.

71 Conqueror (#) You are OK! I gave good laughs. One Argentine friend explained to me what is Argentina: ”When they had abundant gas, their government put up pipe gas for all the capital's homes so they were warm during the winter and the proce was extremely low. When the summer came Argies opened their windows because it was too hot - and did not turn the heating off because it was too cheap. So the gas reserves ended and now Argentina has to import gas from Bolivia. Brazil is different, but I assure you: Argentina is still better than Brazil ( I am Brazilian), and has a bigger chance to reach developement once they find ood representatives, In Brazil the situation seems to be never-ending, no solution in sight NEVER!

    @72 Silvio:
Have you as a Brasilian been to Argentina?
Reason I ask, is one of my Brasilian buddies and his family recently went there on holiday.
They were telling me that they found the Argentinians rather rude, even to the point of his wife walking out of a shop at one point, because the staff were rude to her.

Do you know anyone with a similar story?

@74 Thanks for spending the time, divot. (divot = A torn up piece of turf). Did you “think” I didn't read the items first? Mind you, a Scot would have known. How easy it is to con a wanker. Oh, and a dumb bunch of 70s wannabes? I didn't know they were argies. But they were certainly tossers. Perhaps you could try links that further your case. So far, you just come over as a desperate argie prick. Perhaps you could make enquiries of computer literate people at the University of Bastards and Arses.

Escoses Doido Yes, I visit Buenos Aires once or twice a year and it is a fantastic city, in my opinion after São Paulo, Buenos Aires is the best in SA. Bonaerenses can be compared to Parisians, but they are not rude. I like them. They are OK. They are not sweet like Chileans either... The biggest problem nowadays is counterfeited money and dishonest taxi drivers. This is terrible and afffects tourists directly. Outside Buenos Aires people are even nicer. The country is gorgeous, as a Brazilian I can say: it is much, by far, more beautiful than Brazil, no country in LA compares to Argentina in beauty, diversity, from deserts to snow - it is really a beautiful country! Pity they have had such bad governments!

    # 72 macsilvinho The Brits and Americans here are too passionate about Argentina to say that they are only behind Chile and Uruguay in Latin America. Actually, I believe Argentina has a brighter future than this european excrement we call Russia. A president that choses the governors for you - now that is democracy!

#73 Escoses Doido I don't know about macsilvinho, but Buenos Aires is arrogant. Since they're more cosmopolitan they're more okay with brownies, I think. The rest of them is the opposite: ethinicity plays a role, but they're common humble people. A cynic country that will treat you differently depending on where you're from or what's your skin tone. On the race side, to be fair, I think it is natural that more homogenous places will always carry this stronger prejudices. You see that in Chile and regions of Brazil.

    “Playing the gay card... ”

    VoicethinkedOver,
YOU are the one 'playing the gay card', not Anglotino, and certainly not myself.

You fall into 'Argie Defense Mode' accusing people of “stalking” you and being gay, just like “Pirat Hunter” ALEX VARGAS used to do when he didn't like attention.
We only give you attention because you provoke us with ridiculous lies. We hold you feet to the fire to see if you can back up your statements.

You expect us to take you as having objective opinions on subjects, but you have no credibility when you hide your allegiances and refuse to acknowledge where you derive your perspective.

You run away from a lot of questions, bobbing and weaving, and finally, “Doofus has left the building” LOL

Odd that you will not say you are British yourself, yet you are angrily indignant towards those who assert that they are “more British” than you, LOL

Obviously, you have some real anger and inferiority issues regarding us Brits,
It's quite clear that you ironically prize your British primary education, but you can never BE a Brit.

You must be ashamed of being Argentine for some reason - you are like Stevie, never once having an ounce of compassion for the lot of the average person in Argentina, and never allowing criticism of the corrupt leaders of your country that victimise them.

You are so AFRAID OF BEING CRITICISED that you tell us nothing about yourself, and likely switch to other character names to make use of their established identities.

So tell us again which of us are the puppetmasters and which are their 'socks'

    No?

    Still no reply?

    Thought so.

    :-)

84 Math Believe me Argies are much, much less racist than white Brazilians ( and not so white Brazilians)! I am not by any means defending Argentina, I am Brazilian (Israeli born), I am for the Falklands British or Independent as the Kelpers wish. I am against all the mistakes Argentinian governments have done in the past and still do mostly to keep Argies attentions away from constant financial crisis. It seems Spain, too, is imitating Argentina...

@78 Hello wanker. Or has it dropped off? “Sex Pistols - legendary”? Much like Hitler is “legendary”. And the Mussolini prat.
Why would I read your posts? The first half-dozen words are enough to identify a juvenile, farting wanker. How unfortunate that physics dictates that shit floats. It would be best if it disappeared back up its own and choked it to death. What a wonderful prospect. Shitters choking on their own.
And, to answer your question, I've never wanted to be a citizen of “the world”. It's an assertion made by the inadequate. “The world” has cankers that I choose not to be associated with. Argieland, Bolivia, Ecuador, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Syria. There are others. I am a citizen of the greatest nation the world has ever seen. A status your “state” couldn't aspire to for at least a thousand years. A nation that improved the lives of billions. Including those who like to deny what they owe. Whoops, did I just refer to someone who owes more than US$100 billion and refuses to pay. Who twists, wriggles, squirms, lies, cheats and refuses to tell the truth even in a court of law.
@82 “AVoice has left the building” Excellent. Now stay out. For preference, slump over a toilet and follow precedent. Try to remember that you are a failure. You can't overcome inadequacy. Consider coming back when you have something that matches our achievements.
