“The Clarin media group traditionally has been relatively independent from the different Argentine governments, but has also enjoyed close relations. When the Kirchner couple took office they helped the group refinance a 2bn dollars standing debt following the collapse of the Argentine economy”

This is not correct, was Duhalde who turned into devaluated pesos the debt of Clarin Miente. Reducing the hold debt to less than 1/3 of the real debt that Clarin Miente Group owed to foreigner lenders.

Otherwise by now Clarin Miente wouldn’t exist anymore...

I just wonder what Duhalde got in exchange to save the group.
    Anyone knows?

Don't you think it strange that with all the government's efforts, Clarín is still the largest selling Spanish language newspaper in the world!!!!!!!

Don't you think it strange that despite the government constantly sying that Clarín is “golpista” and has such power over the people, that in 2011 Clarín was incapable of stopping CFK from being voted in with “54%”!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you think it strange that Clarín, which is such an enemy of the people, was given authorization to acquire “Cablevisión” BY NESTOR KIRCHER!!!!!!!!

This article appeared in the Gruniard (it's jokingly known as that due to the fact that it's own “journalists” consistently make awful spelling mistakes) so nobody of any merit will have read it.

    None event.

    @ Simon68

And how do you have arrived to the conclusion that “Clarin Miente” is the largest selling Spanish language newspaper in the world?

    Because Clarin Miente says so?

Any evidence to prove that please?

How many copies are selling according with you?

Thanks in advance for the information that you will never provide because simply is not true.

    SOME VERY IMPORTANT DETAILLS.
The report is good but i think it's necesary to talk about some very important detaills, due to analysis which are often published on the press about the relation between kirchnerism and the clarin group are always too partial.
While it is true that nestor kirchner's government and the clarin group had a good relation, it's also true that when nestor kirchner took office in 2003, argentina's social situation was absolutly deplorable, it was on default, the crisis of 2001 had provoked a 53% of poor people and a 22% of unemployed workers, beside, he had a very low popular legitimity, because he had got just the 22% of votes. So, it was obvious that in such deplorable social context, he was going to need clarin's help.
We must recognize openly that press has always been something very important for absolutly all the governments of the world, and it will always be. On the other hand, in a democratic nation, any media group has right to takle the posture it wishes in relation to any govt., however, being a detractor doesn't justify the mediatic operations that clarin has always done in order to prejudice the different governments, in fact, clarin has always conditioned all constitutional governments, and it started to build it's huge power during the dictatorship, that's why it's accused of delits, because of the acquisition of papel prensa in 1977.
The big difference amiong the governments, is that only alfonsin and c.f. k. confronted againts clarin, all the rest of the presidents, some of them wer absolutly functional, and inthe case of nestor kirchner, he needed clarin's help in the first 3 years of his govt.
There are excellent books written by journalists who aren't kirchnerist, but who made true investigations about clarin and it's relation with the different governments, especially with the kirchner.
Pecado original, clarin los kirchner y la pelea por el poder, by graciela mochkovsfky, and another book written by martin sivak.
