    If the British can display a statue of Thatcher in London,
    they can surely place one in Stanley,
    where those that would wish to deface the memorial are some 400 miles further away than they are in England.

    The cheapest honour given to someone who caused so much pain and damage in her own country and around the world.

    @2 I particularly enjoyed the pain and damage her decisions caused the Argentine military in 1982. Don't want to be hurt by the homeowner during a burglary? Don't break into the house in the first place. Problem solved. :)

    @2 She put and end to your beloved Junta and Dirty War for which your parents proudly cheered in April 1982 (and still celebrate on your worthless 2 peso coin) by humiliating them into defeat at which point your parents (who were either too cowardly to do anything about it before or were enraged for them letting you down, denying you a colony to oppress) finally got off their arses and tossed them. And like the rest of the pathetic little Malvanistas here, you will never forgive her. Never again could you threaten a free people -- or for that matter for some of the trolls here by the way they go on and “'currently' cannot go back to Argentina,” drop a dime on neighbors you begrudged and make them disappear.

    Gonzo22 - do go and read up on modern British history - you will find that the Labout Govt that followed on from her Conservative one had a very good majority in Parliament but changed NONE of the changes she made!
    So go and try again numpty!

    You can vote for Simon Weston to be the subject of The People's Portrait. It will hang in the National Portrait Gallery.

    Well Margaret Thatcher was elected 3 times in free and fair democratic elections and transformed the Country from the “sick man of Europe” into a modern, prosperous and dynamic European state.
    The people of the Falklands are rightly grateful for Thatcher’s leadership which liberated their homeland from a military dictatorship.

    Argentina however is littered with statues to General Julio Argentino Roca, who forcibly incorporated the Pampas and Patagonia into the Argentine Republic by armed conquest and the deaths of thousands of Native American Indians.

    He even used to appear on an Argentine banknote until replaced by Eva Peron, the corrupt demagogue wife of a fascist. Weirdly the decision to make this change was made by President Kirchner. It’s a strange Country where the President gets to decide who appears on a countries banknotes. Don’t they have independent institutions?

    Don't worry Gonzo2. I'm sure that in the future, Islanders will commission a huge statue of CFK, and possibly Nestor the bad investor, Gollum and Putridjelly etc etc, as they increase the autonomy granted to then Falkland Islands since 1982, or attain independence.

    If Argentina doesn't put up a statue to her great efforts to bankrupt her country and ensure the islands further autonomy, you can always catch a Latam flight and kneel down before her statue in the country she failed to steal from its inhabitants.

    @11

    I think the Argies should put a statue up in BA of Mrs Thatcher, as she stopped 1000s of unarmed Argies being chucked out of helicopters into the sea.
