    CFK won't be happy with this!

    How DARE the Panamanians not believe every word that comes out of her mouth, and go and look at the situation for themselves!

    On the positive side, this could be the start of an avalanche of international support for the rights of the Falkland Islanders - the right to self-determination. The right to become a completely independent country whenever they want to. But more importantly, the right to remain a self governing British Overseas Territory, and not be forced against their will to become an Argentine colony.

    The truth will out!

    A* to the Falklands yet again by showing others how to run a tight ship!

    CFK will be miffed, it's another nail in the coffin of the malvinas myth.

    The delegation was impressed with how the FIG had a savings plan in place for the future? For Latin Americans it must've been a strange concept that those in power don't siphon off money into Swiss bank accounts.......

    Good question. I think the islanders are wasting their money with this kind of visits at their expenses. Panama will not modify its historical support to Argentina´s position, which is sustained much before CFK even existed.

    @5 Thing is that the Falkland Islands has far more money per capita than most latam places. Why don't you go figure how much it costs for CFK and her cronies to make one visit anyplace? Doesn't she usually trail 20-40 behind her to show her “importance”? Timidman went to London. How many did he take? Two Islanders turned up and he ran like a rabbit. And Panama should change its position. Or we'll send the Scots to see them again!

    @5 Erne

    You miss the point of the visit. The Panamanian lawmakers, just by visiting the Islands, have already dented the Malvinista lie that EVERYONE supports them and no one recognises the Falkland Islanders OR their referendum.

    The trip of the MLA's to Panama has borne fruit. The cost is minimal, considering just how rich the Falkland Islanders actually are.

    The Panamanian lawmakers have seen with their own eyes the truth about the Falklands. They will pass on what they see to others, who will believe them, and continue to question Argentina's version of events.

    At worse Panama won't change it's position. At best, they'll endorse the right to self-determination of the Falkland Islanders. So it really is a win-win situation for the Falkland Islands.

    Argentina, however, have already lost. Their blatant lies are now being exposed at every turn, not by Britain, but by the very people whose lives are on the line - the Falkland Islanders themselves.

    Argentina's assertion that no one recognises the Falkland Islanders has been overturned. It will continue to be overturned.

    And when the oil starts flowing, and the revenue starts pouring in, Panama will be ideally placed to start trading with the Islands to the mutual benefit of both.

    Argentina will, of course, continue to lie, cry, crawl and beg on the international stage, even more so now that the spectre of default is hanging above their heads. But they've cried wolf, and be caught out in outright lies, far too often for anyone of any note to actually care anymore.

    I respect all your opinions. At the end of the day we are all just guessing. But my point is that most of Panamanian lawmakers are not what you use to know in your country. This people is just looking for nice trips with everything paid and they don´t care about anything else. They don´t care about your views and they don´t care about Argentina´s views either. And of course they re-paid with nice words to the nice invitation. You should not have any expectation about any further development on this.

    It's a foot in door for Panama, when CFK is gone, and that will be soon. Money, oppurtunity, trade and oil between the Falklands and the more amenable Latam countries is going to take off.

    @9
    You are living in the Past, the Falkland Islands have a bright and prosperous future with Latam, but I agree nothing much will happen in the interim with CFK in power.

    9 Erne- you are right indeed, but here we are playing the long game ever since the March referendum - its all a case of bide your time and look to create little chinks and cracks in the other side - and we sure seem to be starting to achieve that in several cases over the last 18 month or so - ever since Arg way over shot the mark in the run up to the 30th Anniv and won us massive FREE world wide media attention.

    @9 I'm sure that Panama will be delighted to learn that you consider their probity to equate with your own. Of course, there has been no argie “probity” since around 1870. More than 140 years of argie lies. Panama doesn't seem to have similar “problems”.

    Best thing to do is to transform argieland into ash, lava and trash.

    10&12 I do not live in the past. I do not live in Argentina. I live in Panama and I know what I am talking about. You think whatever you want

    “You should not have any expectation about any further development on this.”

    The islanders won't have undue expectation but if Panama can see through Argentina's distorted comments on history and decide to trade with the Falklands, Panama will benefit financially.

    I doubt by supporting Argentina's claim, Panama will actually benefit from that support.
